FYI,there is no KL Rahul for test squad,they have saha and Pant so Rahane will be opening the innings with shaw or Manyak Agarwal.

Rahane is Middle-order batsman so only 0.0001% chance of him opening the inning or lets say not in our lifetime. Indian team has 2 regular opener Shaw-Mayank and if situation demands then Vihari can be a part-opener similar to last year when Indian team toured the Australia.

In test cricket yes,he never opened the innings in test matches but if Shaw and Mayank is going to play on the match then who is going to sit in the bench? Possibly Subhman Gill?

Yeah, High chance of sitting him out and Mayank and Shaw for opening followed by Pujara, Kohli, Rahane. Wicket Keeper-Batsman slot is important and there is slight chance of Virat favoring Rishabh Pant as there is no pressure of Wicket-keeping in spin friendly wicket and he performed good in SENA pitches in 2017-18. I am more interested in bowling combination, lets see if its 4 seamer + 1 spinner or 3 seamer + 1 spin combination.

For me its very balanced side as they have good batsmen in middle order and with Bumrah now pace attack is also looking very balanced even Ishant Sharma is out so this could be very good series for these two teams with India is favourite but still any body game as New Zealand is capable of doing surprises.

NZ has a great chance to win this test series since they are basically playing against an experimenting Indian side at present. Observed that Gill, Shaw and Mayank got dismissed early though I am expecting Mayank to perform really well.

If NZ can get the openers out quickly, they could most likely win the matches easily. On the other hand, it is good to see Shami and Bumrah in the squad(Happy to see that Thakur is not a part of the squad). It will be interesting to see if India can continue their test series winning streak.

As JSRAW said, that's not going to happen may be. He never played in that position. He has played more than 85% almost of his matches in 5th.
Here are some of his stats-
At 3, 5 innings with an average of 30
At 4, 5 innings with an average of 70
At 5, 82 innings with an average of 40.83 which is the best I think.
So, he is not going to start the innings for sure.

Yes, with the experiment going on with the Indian side the chances are very high for Newzealand to win the test series. Although I feel that testing the newbies is important but an experienced opener with a newbie will not harm the team. Whatever the management has planned it for the good of Indian cricket.

Did NZ play with 9 bowlers

Today Mayank played well with 81 and Pant as well while Gill failed again. Don't find Gill deserving to play in these 2 test matches as he needs more experience but the other players are good along with Saha who is a surprise package. Rahane is a good batsmen and so should get Gill's position in the first test.

If Gill lose his spot then possible playing XI for team India can be predicted,the only surprise will be who is going to be WK,Saha more experienced test career while Pant better average and destructive batting style.

I feel Saha will be the man will be playing because when you are going to play with inexperienced openers then its important to have strong batting at middle order who will play responsible to the condition which is lacking from Pant from my observation.

Some time these type experiments can give good result as Sharma and Dhawan both on injury list so they are doing right job but we can say not on right time because New Zealand is not a good place for newbie as conditions are hard for batting but still its good quality is also high so we have to watch what is response from these newbies.

Rohit Sharma became the Test opener recently and Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul used to open for India for a while and there are new blood in the team and with Rohit Sharma injured and Dawan sidelined by yet another injury i think India might experiment but they have the bowlers to challenge New Zealand and the series depends upon which batsman can score a bigger innings and the rest will be taken care by the bowlers for New Zealand and for India.

In practice matches, you can use a lot of players. There's no limitation of 11 players. You can bowl with 9 bowlerd while you can bat with other players. That's ehy NZ tried 9 of their bowlers to get prepared the best.
There are good combination for opening, I don't think India will have trouble.

- No update on Ishant's injury but his name is in squad.

Follow back : Ishant recently posted in his twitter account that he recovered from his ankle injury. Match fit? still not clear but he's joining the squad soon. Bumrah-Shami-Ishant trio is very important for India.

He is the strike bowler for New Zealand and along with Neil Wagner and Kyle Jamieson, he will be able to trouble the Indian batsmen. But that would mean that Tim Southee may not find a place in the playing XI (in case they decide to include Ajaz Patel as the spinner and Colin de Grandhomme as the all rounder).

Nice to see Trent Boult back in the side after a long injury break. Since India does have all their premium fast bowlers fit to play the match as well as the case with New Zealand players what kind of pitch the New Zealand board will be coming up is a mystery. If they keep the grass then it will be difficult for the batsman from both the teams and how the match goes depends upon how they will be planning to retain the pitch, if it is a green turf then it will be a great contest and a challenge for the batsman as New Zealand and India have good fast bowlers.

To be honest, it is difficult to predict which type of surfaces will be prepared by the New Zealand curators. But given the strength of the Indian batting lineup, it will be suicidal for them to prepare surfaces that support the batsmen. The problem here is that the Indian bowlers such as Sharma and Shami are experts in picking up wickets in flat surfaces, while the New Zealand bowlers lack that capability.

He mentioned that he wanted to see new generation leaders to lead the team into better path,he has been sticking into the captaincy mainly due to key players were retired after ICC WC 2019 now he felt that team was rebuilt completely so have to find the one to leads for coming decade.Still part of Australian series though.

I think they will have two pacer and two spinner for the first test. Spinners are very effective in test cricket and Newzealand batsmen are not good with spin balling. Though I am not sure who they will select for the first match.

IMO, they will go with 3 pacers and one spinner (plus Ravindra Jadeja, the spin-bowling all rounder). Going with two full-time spinners in addition to Jadeja sounds too much for me. Kiwi batsmen are not very comfortable against the spinners, but then we can't expect spin-friendly surfaces in New Zealand. So 3+1+1 would be a good combination as far as I am concerned.
