Is Scrypt in trouble?I have followed a lot of coins in my time and ones that are similar to NLG, IE cryptos that are set out to make a difference and expand the market to the mainstream public. However 2 other coins are going through the same issues as NLG and one swore to never switch algorithms. Let me introduce you to noblecoin. Like NLG it has around 52 merchants and charities accepting it, the main dev Rofo said he would never switch from scrypt but because of price pressure and being forked by 51% attacks they are now looking at going to POS. Below was the confirmation and reasoning behind the change. NOBL has been hit so hard that Mintpal requires 999 confirmations for each transaction. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=402667.msg7301375#msg7301375The next coin is Digibyte who are changing algorithm to a new multi algorithm, they also have felt the impact of asics. Both the above are well respected scrypt coins and we now know for sure that ASICs are a bad thing for scrypt coins as people and other POS coins(with Multipools) use them to ROI and sellout on POW coins to boost there own coin prices. Litecoin and Doge might be able to weather the storm of asics but even dogecoin prices have plummeted from previous highs by 400% and that's with a reduction in block rewards from 500 000 to 125 000 at present. ASICs vs GPUs ASICs = Centralized Mining GPUs = Decentralized Mining, ofc there are a few people with massive GPU farms but nothing to extent a ASIC farm can achieve. Algorithm Change. X11 I recently tried mining a X11 coin and my GPUs were thanking me for it. With the X11 algo GPUs get *5 boost in KH over scrypt coins and use around 40-50% less power AND 30% less heat. I used to bash algorithm changes in the past but as the saying goes, don't bash something until you have tried it and I was well impressed. Now X11 isn't totally ASIC resistant but it's a lot better then scrypt also a lot of GPU miners would flock to NLG because mining scrypt at this stage is tough if you using a GPU. However it will take about another 18 months for ASICs to come out that will work as intended with the X11 algorithm, this also buys NLG a year to really get this coin going. However there is some cons to X11 so please read the below article. http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/news/pros-cons-x11-algorithm/2014/04/10Some of the Big name coins on X11 is DRK and Crypt I think as a community we should decide weather it is feasible to change algorithms or just stick with scrypt and weather the storm? i think this is spam No not spam, we talked about this kind of things earlier but decided to stay with scrypt. However, Wildwest, I think it's indeed an interesting subject. sorry my bet

There is so much anti-ASIC FUD in this forum lately that I don't even know what to say.
Don't change algorithms post release. That's just amateur hour. Do you think BTC would have been as popular as it is now if the miners were given GPUs/FPGAs/ASICs and then told they weren't going to be able to use them anymore for mining because someone was scared of them? Sometimes I wonder if some of you ASIC FUD spreaders were around when FPGAs were first hitting BTC, let alone ASICs.
X11 adds nothing to this coin, and only alienates people like myself who are mining with ASICs. In fact, I would guess about half, or more, of the hashrate is ASICs. At any given time, my group can throw about 100-150MH at the coin in ASICs to help secure the chain. I'm not saying you're going to, but do you honestly want to tell half of the miners, myself included, to kick rocks?

ny2 makes a valid point, at the end of the day 576000 coins get produced daily, whether the hash rate is 10000000000000000000000000GH/s or 10 KH/s, basically if you have the buyers you have the buyers. imo it was someone trying to manipulate the market and weak hands sold out in panic, the price has already almost bounced back 100%.

We are very happy to announce a new member in the Guldencoin family, Bitstraat.nl. Bitstraat.nl offers hardware solutions for merchants, which will make accepting Guldencoin easy and convenient.
Hot damn! You guys make me really happy. I've been involved with mining, being a pool op, trading, etc for like a year and a half now. I've seen a lot of coins come and go, and I've been close to a lot of coin dev teams. NLG's dev team is by far the best I've seen in the last year. These guys aren't over hyping and under producing. They are doing it right. My hat goes off to the dev team. Kudos to your hard work, and your ability to properly support your project. -Fuse

POS coins for instance are so centralized that it would be almost impossible for them to have full on merchant adoption. So the devs says we will be bringing out this feature, anon is the new craze right now and everyone goes mad and buys them up, yet they can't be used outside of mintpal and cryptsy. Out of the PnD lot the only one that is trying to get into mainstream is blackcoin, but they have been put off a lot because of the name of the coin. Guldencoin really has the right identity for a coin that can beat all of them. It will take time I am sure and those with patient minds will benefit in the long run. Well done, this is a great coin, a great coin that has yet to be noticed.

This is a good start, will this company be recommending merchants to adopt NLG along with BTC in the Netherlands?

Would be nice if we go all along together with "our" merchants and "their" merchants. Then only NLG and BTC of course, not a lot more coins accepted. P.s: voted #1352 http://www.coinwarz.com/voting

I have started buying into NLG, great coin , wish I had stumbled upon it sooner. Any reason why this coin has no marketing? More people noticing NLG now. I would just like to mention something and I am guilty of it too, but I have seen some other communities really putting more effort into promoting and helping there coins. Even communities were the devs have left and the communities still able to keep it going. Since we all invest in NLG I think we should also help out where we can... bitcoin was built on community not just a team doing all the work for it. So with all the updates the team is giving + us adding to the coin it will be exceptional.
