Id love to test and have a spare drive i can devote to resources on an always on machine. im sure its in here somewhere but if anyone has links handy or would know whens a good time to start testing/contributing resources maybe post some links or info.

Check their forum. It will be pinnend on top when the new testnet goes live. Including the links to the software for the Vaults and Clients.

Testing Vaults, decided to park uTP / UDP,  blocking I/Os don’t scale so rewriting Crust using async frameworks.

The test was great, over 500 nodes connected to the network, including a lot of people running Vaults from home.

They took down the network to get through a lot of data, including logs from 200 droplet nodes  Grin
This was the first testnet with a big number of people running Vaults from home, there was test 2 weeks ago which was a bit to technical for most people. The last test was click and run your Vault. You could see the data come in, routing tables being filled, and more.

I'll update here when the testnet goes live again.

Tough day for MAID's investors, but it's still holding a stong position in the marketcap.

Here's the latest dev-update.

MaidSafe Dev Update 10th May 2016

790 nodes in the last testnet!
All of us at MaidSafe would just like to extend our gratitude to everyone that took part in TEST 21 last Friday and Saturday. The SAFE community made up the majority of the nodes on the network with 790 nodes taking part (MaidSafe had 200 running), more details on the TEST 2 findings below. The next iteration of testing will be coming very soon, as usual this will be communicated to the community here on the forum. The SAFE Network truly belongs to everyone!

Soon the ability for the community to run their own testnets
We will hopefully be adding the ability for separate networks and separate network tests this week. This will allow various “testnets” to be created and run by the community for further deep testing. We think the community may offer greater help if we can provide easy mechanisms to test. Also projects like safex, decorum et al’ can then run their own testing networks, either locally or publicly. This will involve starting a Vault with a flag such as --first --name=”your test name” . This is an observation from the forum we took on board this week, along with the updates we are carrying out.

Read the update for more info

.....................................................
TESTNET 3 is live, testers needed!
.....................................................

Maidsafe just released the binaries for TEST 3.
The software consists of:

  • The Vault - This program stores chunks on your harddrive and delivers data to the network.
  • The SAFE Launcher - This program allows you to setup an account on the SAFE Network.
  • The SAFE Demo App - This program allows you to upload you website and register a public name in the DNS.

All programs are easy to use. No terminal needed, it's click-n-run for the most part.

So what's this all about?
Maidsafe (the company) is working on a decentralized P2P network (The SAFE Network) that's fully encrypted. They did several tests over the last few
months relying on their own droplet servers to see how the network behaves. In the last test people
ran Vaults from home making it a real P2P-network. There where 200 Maidsafe nodes in the network with 590 nodes from users at home. This was the first big P2P-test of the SAFE technology.

How can I join the network?
It's very easy. You download and start the Vault and within minutes you see a routing table being build, chunks of data come in and more. The Vault is 100% click-n-run.
No technical settings needed. It works with Linux, Windows and Mac OS. They're even working on an ARM version.

What can I do more?

When you run the SAFE Launcher you can browse .safesites in your browser. It's the main entrance to the network. All Apps connect to the Launcher to get on SAFE.
If you install the Demo App you can:

  • Register a public name on the network in the DNS (Decentralized Name System).
  • Upload your own .safesite to the network.
  • Browse your own and other .safesites using links like: yourname.safenet in your browser.
  • Upload and download private files to the network.

This is still a testnet so there are some limitations. Your login details will never leave your computer but people might scan the network and see that
you are part of it. This is on purpose because the Maidsafe-devs want to see how the network behaves. There are also size limits for the files that can be stored
on the network. The network might be wiped in a few days and all your data is gone from that moment. So consider the network not safe, not stable and just join it
to help the devs to see how the tech is doing. They will keep improving until the network is stable and they can't take it down anymore.

Okay, I want to try this out. What should I do?

Have fun!

Maidsafe – Does Your Crypto Do That?

Quote
Why do we use cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin? Some might say that the decentralized nature of cryptocurrency appeals to them. Others might  say that the (not-so) anonymous nature of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are what draws them. Others still may be motivated by the speed and  transparency of the blockchain, no matter which cryptocurrency is used as a mining reward. But there are problems with some modern  cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin. And these problems may be just small enough to not be a bother, like the blocksize debate was in 2014, or  large enough to put the entire system at risk, like the blocksize debate has become now in 2016. Whether it be governance, scalability  issues, or problems with annonymity and centralization, any one of these issues could cause major disruption in the adoption and even in  the actual maintenance of the network itself......

TEST 3 from Maidsafe is over. Thanks to those who joined and tested. The devs wanted to test crust/routing to the extremes to gather info about the behavior.

This is what I experienced:

  • The Vault was way faster than the ones before. I had a working routing table with 40 connections under 3 seconds.
  • I was able to register an account, register a public name in the DNS, upload a website just like the last test.
  • The test lasted for about 24 hours, Maidsafe had 100 droplet nodes running this time.

The devs are fixing bugs and will probably launch a new test in the coming days or early next week.

For those that missed this test but still want to join a SAFE network, a user on the forum altered some config files so you can connect
to it and test for yourself. It's quite easy to do...
