The first time I heard of this project, this is the Japanese AEON? The company with many mall assets

Not the Japanese Aeon.

Maybe the Romanian-French one though.

I was googling Budapest and I think I saw a sign...

Smooth (main dev) just walked into McDonalds...is there anyone in the area to give chase?

https://www.google.com/maps/@47.4906954,19.02424,3a,50.9y,275.8h,92.98t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sUXWLb8WPUoVoR3QFR-UW1A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

Maybe he's after cheap coffee to keep the rebase going...

Is there a bounty for GUI wallet?
I am thinking about forking monero gui beta, seems to be quite stable.

Locking up my PC is not stable.  Monero is the Zcash of shitcoins.

For such a shitcoin, it's doing pretty well.

Maybe it's your PC or the operator.

And besides, this AEON, not Monero.

Original AEON was forked from Monero.

Why we couldn't take fresh Monero release and fork it again - the same way as it was done initially?
What do you mean? Restart everything from scratch again? I reckon that it would present more problems and complications. The first problem that comes to mind are the amounts in the wallets.
Nope.
You don't have to start from scratch but use existing blockchain instead.

That is what smooth might be doing right now, but it does not mean it was going to be very easy. Or is it? How long would it be to change the code from a 2mb scratch pad to 1, and to change the algorithm to cryptonight-light?

Also consider that smooth is working alone and part time on the project.

AEON already uses a 1MB scratchpad. It's the only coin (I think) that uses cryptonight-light which is cryptonight with the 1MB scratch pad. Idea there is to make it easier for CPU and graphics mining due to less memory requirements per hash.

In general, changing an algorithm isn't terribly difficult for a coin. It's getting the logistics setup.. everyone must upgrade to wallet version 'x' and at block 'y' the new hash algo will be used. It's just like changes to Bitcoin for segwit and whatnot.. just a change that occurs at a certain block, but need buyin from a majority of users or else you get a fork. Aeon is still somewhat small which means users can adopt easily.. but if a pool or 2 are slow to pick up the change, you get a fork with a lot of blocks behind it and it gets nasty.

Yes sadly that is an unfinished project, due to it relying heavily on the wallet code. I'm waiting to see what comes out of the rebase before completing it.  To be honest i'm surprised anyone has actually found it.

If only.  So if anyone is gonna fork it for an Aeon wallet, be prepared to fix it.

P.S.  Monero "doing well" on SEC fear mongering doesn't mean squat about the readyness of the underlying tech.

@Miner2525. What are you trying to imply? That Monero's underlying technology is not ready yet? I would be happy to see you prove it. Monero's development team is the best compared to all the other altcoins. They are also sticking with the open source spirit which is now very refreshing after all the ICOs running their projects like real companies.

For Aeon, the Chinese ban in ICOs is a good opportunity. Some investors might start looking for mined coins now. I hope the code rebase will be available before the end of the year.

And most importantly, one of the main original developers behind Monero is the developer that created and still with Aeon.

Monero's definitely on a solid trajectory, both in value and in stability use. Aeon can only hope to follow in it's footsteps as a sister coin.

what are the real world use cases for a sister coin?  The old store of value, vs cash idea? Just don't get why people think there will be so many cash networks in the future.

Aeon is not a simple Monero clone, Aeon have a unique Criptonote Algo with the best CPU performance (compared to GPU performance), and less memory requirements, than any other Criptonote coin.

I see a real world use for this caracteristiques.

That's not correct. Aeon was launched by an anonymous dev aeon who abandoned it after three months:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=641696.msg8699107#msg8699107

Smooth helped maintain the seed nodes and patched a few bugs during that time, and the community welcomed him as the new dev.
The history back then is IMO quite interesting & exciting, a highly recommended read.

Also this thread is worth checking out:

I agree, in my experience, AEON is the best coin for mining from the aspect of CPU mining only. The algorithm is one that actually is the most CPU friendly and GPU unfriendly of any I have tested (among coins that are profitable enough to pay your power bill at least). It's also easier on the CPU, every one I have tested it on runs much cooler on AEON then on any other CPU coin I have tested.

Yes and the longterm plan for Aeon is to also run on mobile devices. I reckon smooth mentioned that the hardware is not there yet. But he already envisioned that in 5 years mobile phones will be more powerful than the regular desktop computer.

Smooth has found a special category in the market.

Aeon is apparently not working correctly.

If and when the work to rebase the coin is complete, we might expect a bump.

We will probably also see a big dump, soon after.

The fact that we have nearly zero "progress" info is not good.

On the other hand, if the improved blockchain version is really good, we could see a sustained upswing.

As for the use of cell phones for this coin, unless and until phones become more secure, anyone who stores their coins on a phone is a future victim of theft.
