Can you please come over to the official forum?

It could be several things.
Have you used delegated harvesting on a remote node perhaps?

Yep I have delegated harvesting on a remote node...problem is that my wallet wont even open now so I cannot change my settings.

You can change settings on the landing page as well. Look to the upper right.

Bittrex have a sponsored coin section.

How come the creators of XEM coins don't pay for advertising spot there?
How much do Bittrex charge to be listed as a sponsored coin?

Could you please share a link to that forum? I am still having the same problem: Unable to open my wallet!

https://forum.ournem.com/
Most of us have the same username there...
All NEMsters and friends of NEM project are more than welcome there...

Hopefully very soon we will have some nice addition/news of what we believe will be very helpful in dealing with any kind of troubleshooting.

About the problem with opening the wallet:
Before everything, always be sure that your wallet file and your addressbook file are both securely, properly backed up.
Your NEM client stores your private keys, addresses and other valuable information in .wlt (wallet file) and .adb (addressbook) files.

It is wise to have proper backup of those files.

You can locate them if you use Windows here:

C:\Users\[your user name]\nem\ncc\

Both files will have name same as what your wallet is named but they will have extensions .wlt and .adb
Here is more detailed tutorial with screenshots.

http://blog.nem.io/how-to-find-export-or-delete-your-wallet-and-address-book-file/

Make copies of them. Remember they are protected with password you've set up for your wallet. Make sure you don't loose/forget that password.

Now when this is done, let's try to fix your issue. Please go to upper right option like klintay described:

Try going to setting on the front page and changing your host to: localhost
leave the port as 7890

See screenshot below:

Have the above instructions worked/helped?

I have already tried that, as well as "autoboot"

The browser shows this message:
"NIS needs to be booted. Please open your wallet and boot a local node via the popup dialog or configure the auto-boot setting. (at block 27249)"

But I am unable to open my wallet. The browser seems to ignore the password, since the output log show this:
"Http Status Code 400: expected value for property password, but none was found (org.nem.core.connect.ErrorResponse <init>)"

What was previous version? (installer or standalone)
What is the version you used to upgrade? (installer or standalone)

Max number of harvesters on server, please try again later
What is the max number of harvesters allowed on NEM servers?
Also, this is a distributed blockchain platform, so I was surprised to see this message. Is NEM running on a few centrally controlled servers until post BETA where the development team will release the client software package to run on client and node PCs? Or will NEM core always be partly run on local servers?

The maximum number of harvesters can be set in the file config.properties in the NIS subfolder of your installation folder. Just change the entry

Quote
nis.unlockedLimit = 1

to the desired maximum number of harvesters.
In case you are using a remote node you cannot change the maximum because the person running the node is deciding what the maximum is.

No spaces, but I have dots in my wallet name as well as in the password.

It is a new installation. I entered yesterday in this coin, so I installed everything for the first time. Mi computer is Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit.
I bought about 40000 XEM on one exchange and I transferred about 25000 to my wallet.
I tryed to harvest with no success and now I can not access my wallet.

Create a new wallet without any spaces and dots in the name. The password is allowed to have dots.

I created a symlink to my wallet with a "valid" name. I finally was able to log into the wallet but it was still having references to the previous name. Then I renamed the wallet to another different name. Now, things seem to work correctly... I hope!

I would suggest to implement some validation rules in the next wallet version to prevent users from choosing non valid wallet names.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad that the issue is resolved.

Question for discussion:

Should exchanges be allowed to harvest?

You can't stop anyone from harvesting. Each account makes it's own decision
From what i know from some poloniex mods, their contract prohibits harvesting
If poloniex is NBZMQO7ZPBYNBDUR7F75MAKA2S3DHDCIFG775N3D then they are harvesting

It's their call no one can stop them. Although I must say I wouldn't do that...

If they really do, I hope they're doing it on some separate node, not on the node they use for getting information.
So exchanges are like banks then? Charge a fee to buy & sell and use the parked XEM for a high POI score so they can harvest blocks for the txs fees.

People hate banks for the profits they make off us but I guess it's ok for exchanges.

Well, this is a problem.
Many people send to Poloniex and increase her PoI. Already at 10%, no way to avoid this, ok?
it is possible attack the network with a significant amount of PoI?

It's always a bad idea to leave your crypto's at exchanges for more time than you need to. People should know this. See my signature and you know what I mean.
Unfortunately this is a necessary evil. Is have no another marketplace better than Exchanges.
I lost that amount in Bter.

No it's not a necessary evil. Why would it be necessary for anyone to leave any coin on an exchange ?
If you want to sell something deposit the amount you want to sell on an exchange. Keep the rest in your wallet.

It's really baffling that people still keep coins on exchanges. How many compromised exchanges does it take for people to learn ? I guess always 1 more.

you should ask the question why people let her coins on exchanges!!

Because it is easier, and because people do not want install additional software, and also because an exchange can be accessed from everywhere.

That's why NEM would be a step forward to the others with a secure, easy constructed and accessible online wallet

Yes a kind of lite NCC version that does not require installation and does
signing in the browser would be needed.

I wonder if the current NCC can be modified so that it can be used like
a proxy to access any NIS without any security risk.

For example anybody could then runt NCC on vps and allow public access
to other users which could then access their funds from web or mobile without installing anything
and doing local signing so that the user that runs NCC cant access the funds of the users that access their
accounts i mean anybody could start their own "blockchain.info" then in few minutes Wink

This would be cool.

Just wondering the price of NEM is low these days because:
1. Some sockpuppets and late Stake redeemers were allowed recently to have their Stakes redeemed.
2. Or such redemptions are yet pending? And the reason is something else??
