...

To be honest I think the GUI will have as much effect on the price of monero as tiddlywinks has on the price of wheat.

In theory one would have to agree since it is no secret that the GUI is being developed, and one can follow the development on github so the market should have already taken this into account.

On the other hand recent history may indicate otherwise. The database was also no secret and in fact many members of the Monero community were using versions of Monero that had the database in 2015; however there was an over fourfold increase in the market capitalization of Monero after the official release of versions with the database. Even more importantly after a very significant correction, the market capitalization of Monero is well above the peak market capitalization before 2016. This is very different from the vast majority of crypto currencies that have been around for over two years. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/monero/#charts.

I stay with my Sword of Damocles analogy. One must keep in mind that the fact that the Sword of Damocles is hanging over someone's head, held only by a very thing thread, does not mean there is a guarantee that it will fall in a particular time frame.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Zcash already postponed to September (earlier projections stated July).

To be honest I think the GUI will have as much effect on the price of monero as tiddlywinks has on the price of wheat.

I think it is important to distinguish between short term and longer term effects of an out of the box GUI.

Short term there might be some speculation that the price should rise, but that's it. It likely won't make a difference to the current Monero users, since they are already comfortable with the CLI.

However longer term, a hurdle for new users is removed that do not have the patience / knowledge / interest etc to learn a 90's DOS like interface. They want a graphical interface with just a few options. No geeky stuff to distract them from the core functionality (look at all 'modern' mainstream web pages).

To the power user the CLI will likely stay the preferred way. Let the GUI be for convenience and ease of use to appeal to the not so tech savvy users. This will attract new users, hence increasing demand.

Couldn't have said it better. I'd like to add though that some people currently might not be comfortable with either the CLI or a paper wallet for storage and therefore keep their coins stored on an exchange. This significantly increases the propensity to "pull-the-trigger" (i.e. sell) during a (short-term) downtrend.

There is a support zone and the 23.6% fibonnaci retracement level to support us too, see:

However, due to high correlations I guess most of the price action will, unfortunately, depend on what the price of Bitcoin and/or ETH does.

Yep. Aside from the few bitcointalk users avoiding the CLI, a bundled GUI achieves little for outside adoption.

What will be more helpful are apps and third party tools that make privacy sacrifices but achieve better performance and reach a broader user base. Think centralized messenger apps that can handle XMR payments between contacts.

Get the currency out there. Those interested in privacy can still run their linux boxes with full nodes.

I thought you might be talking about price.

The GUI question has already been answered.

As proof there was a GUI commit about and hour ago.

I guess soon it will be time to start to speculate if there will be a GUI or not.  Shocked
That being said, my buying target is still lower than the current price so selling now is like selling on premium.  Grin
