No, you calculate the same number of hashes.
edit: and ofcourse congrats to the new blockfinder!

Silly question within the same difficulty period does it have any difference that you rent for instance 200 ths for one hour or 400ths for 30mins
No, you calculate the same number of hashes.

I don't think the answer is that simple, because you have to factor in the number of blocks you're working to solve as well. You'll have the same number of hashes spread out over more blocks with 200/1, whereas 400/.5 will have that number of hashes over half as many blocks, so twice as many hash calcs per block. Therefore you should have a better chance with more power over a shorter duration.

The number of blocks on which you work won't do a difference on the chance of finding a valid hash. The number of hashes makes a difference.

The number of blocks on which you work won't do a difference on the chance of finding a valid hash. The number of hashes makes a difference. Correct. Assume for a moment that you control the entire hash rate of the network right now and that hash rate remains constant. By design you should find a block every 10 minutes. If you control 1/6th of the network, you should find a block every hour, etc. Statistically if you rent 2.321PH/s for 24 hours or 1.16PH/s for 48 hours, you'd expect to find 1 block. EDIT: Note, this assumes there is no change in network difficulty during this time frame.

Thanks just ended without results best share remained the same as in the previous post so I thing I needed at least the double as best share to find a block... hopefully next week now... good luck to all

I think it does not matter when diff is same. It is just a proportional relation. But from physiological point of view it is like 200 th for one hour gives you the impression that chances are beter because it is whole hour

How long does it take to solve a block on average?
Approximately ten minutes. Depends on whether the network is increasing or decreasing in size.

So if I rent on WestHash I should just choose to not limit the hashing power because it doesn't make a difference in the chance i solve a block. due to the same amount of hashes?

The 'number' of hashes determines the chance of finding a block. If you run 10TH/s for 1 hour - that = 10TH x 3600 seconds or a total of 36PH If you run 360TH/s for 10 seconds - that = 360TH x 10 seconds or a total of 3.6PH The expected average Diff to find a block is currently 46684376316.86029053 1 Diff = 2^32 Hashes or ~4.3GH So currently the expected average number of Hashes to find a block is ~2.0x10^20H or ~201EH = ~201000PH Note above where I have said "GH" or "TH" or "PH" that is a total number of Hashes Where as "TH/s" is a number of Hashes per second

Approximately ten minutes. Depends on whether the network is increasing or decreasing in size. Thankyou I should probably have written "On average approximately 10 minutes, depending on whether the network is increasing or decreasing in size.", because the variance in time take for a block to be solved is very large. It could take hours or seconds, but on average around ten minutes - less if the network is increasing in hashrate, more if the network is decreasing in hashrate.

A reminder the pool will be down from 05:00 UTC for a period long enough to warrant people set a backup.

After relatively prolonged scheduled downtime, the pool is back online and I note miners returned pretty much immediately.
Since the pool was restarting I used this as an opportunity to add IPV6 support. You can now also connect via IPV6 to solo6.ckpool.org:3333 and solo6.ckpool.org:443

It seems there was an hour long DDoS on this pool for an hour up to about 90 minutes ago. It wasn't particularly intense since pretty much nothing was affected as far as I can tell except for a huge burst in traffic. I suspect it's the same extortionist attacking all the pools, and he probably meant to aim it at kano's pool which he also did as per here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.msg10705723#msg10705723The offending user on the forums sends PMs via the forum, this is him: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=411920I didn't receive any demands so perhaps he thought it might not be such a great idea to extort someone who's staff on the forum he's using for messaging and decided to move to someone else...
