Ok - this is the worst batch of product I have ever gotten from Bitmain.  What is going on??  So far I have had 3 units with bad PSU's.  (One of them almost caught on fire) All of my settings are factory stock. NO overclocking.  One of the units has the amber "alarm" light on the PSU blinking and one unit has what appears to be asci code on the LCD.  So of 33 units purchased 5 are down.  That's 15 % of my units not running within a few days of implementation.  Bitmain I hope you're reading this and thinking of a resolution......

This link has only been posted about a dozen times in the past day in this thread.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24462711/initramfs.bin.SD-20141003-1.tar.gz

5 of 33 units not functioning is no laughing matter, but if you missed that link easily enough then maybe you should RTFM and see if you are doing something wrong Sad

Contact the user BitmainWarranty via PM, and try calling their support line too.
They will help you.

Can't help but imagine you must be doing something terribly wrong to get those results. Still not sure how you missed nearly 3 pages of instruction in this thread regarding the firmware upgrade.

Just to keep all of you guys safer, the e-mailed version's MD5 is...

MD5: 506A7AEACC0FF853A351AC3B20ABB1AF

Can test the MD5 after download by using one of the free software.

Guys, here is the new fixed firmware. Bitmain emailed it to me as their engineer isn't avilable to upload it to their website yet.

WANTED: Active dev to fix & re-write p2pool in C

P2pool works.  Cheesy  Pools were selected from http://p2pool-nodes.info/

If there is a specific pool, you want a try, please let me know!

Replied questions:

1. S4 is compatible with p2pool?
Yes

Can anyone confirm this? Anyone tried?

A screen of an S4 connected to a local node for one minute is hardly proof that it "works" - it's just proof that it's connected. You said the S2 "works" with p2pool also - but it doesn't, not efficiently anyway. Can you post some stats please? Better still, point one at my node for 10 minutes & we can see for sure:

stratum+tcp://iyftech.zapto.org:9332

Thanks.

Wow was so tempted to get at least 1 or 2 units of the S4 just for the heck of it, but looks like I dodged a bullet with Batch 1.

I'm sure Bitmain will iron out these QA issues by either next batch or batch 3 or 4.

My antminer s4 is also not working on eligius or ghash, but it's reporting in its own control panel that it's mining at 2000+ gh/s. What is the deal?

Ghash and Eligius pool computability issues are being looked at and worked by the engineers at the moment.  Mean time, there is an updated firmware for S4.

Just to keep all of you guys safer, the e-mailed version's MD5 is...

MD5: 506A7AEACC0FF853A351AC3B20ABB1AF

Can test the MD5 after download by using one of the free software.

Mean wile, if none of these will resolve your issue, please open an account at BTCGUILD.COM and tempoary hash there to avoid any lost mining time.  Engineers are working to resolve the issues.

Thank you!

Use BTCguild for best results I am finding. Ghash works too.

Whatever pool that you choose, be sure to set difficulty manually to 2048  Wink

Well, I figured out at least one problem: my S4 was configured totally wrong from the factory. It looks like the firmware was re-used from an S2 machine or something:

in /config/asic-freq.config:

Code:

    option 'freq_value'    '0781'  #200M
    option 'chip_freq'     '200'
    option 'timeout'       '80'

This is not even remotely correct. 0781 isn't a valid value for anything according to the S4 manual, and the timeout is way too high. The manual says for 200MHz, timeout should be 20ms. So I changed it to:

Code:

    option 'freq_value'    '0782'  #200M
    option 'chip_freq'     '200'
    option 'timeout'       '20'

Then rebooted the S4, and now my Diff1 on Eligius climbed from 256 to 512, to 1.02k, and my hashrate is climbing as well. After 2 minutes, it's now above 1.2TH/s when it used to show only like 50Gh/s. I'll update in a few hours on the status, but things are looking much better.

You have to set it at the pool, BTCguild and Ghash have the option for sure.

Looks like you may have nailed it though Wink Wink
Hopefully with that information Bitmain can push another firmware relatively quickly Embarrassed

Look forward to seeing the results  Wink

And here they are:

My DOA/Reject rate instantly climbed from less than 2% to over 18% with the addition of your S4 before you switched it off prematurely  Sad

It would have been a more accurate test of your S4 with p2pool if you had kept it running for the full 10 minutes - but as we can clearly see by the graph, the S4 does not work efficiently with p2pool, as you wrongly stated earlier with your 1 minute screen. It also didn't get anywhere near 2Th.

I was under the impression that Bitmain was doing some major development with their hardware & it's problem with p2pool - but this miner seems to be a bigger version of the poorly performing S2 with p2pool I'm afraid.

Can you tell me what settings you were using in cgminer?

IYF.

I just switched from eligius to ghash.io and set the difficulty to 4096, and I'm getting 1.85TH/s pool-side. Closest I've gotten yet.

I've tried updating the firmware on the S4 and I get a SD directory omitting error.

S4 is not hashing correctly with elgius, so I moved back to ghash.io and set worker difficulty to 2048.

Hashrate at the pool fluctuates between 1.85 and 2.05 Th/s in the last 24 hours.  Noticing ghash keeps redirecting me to uk1 and uk2...will test with us servers.

Replied questions:

1. S4 is compatible with p2pool?
Yes

2. When do we release the latest firmware?
Engineers have released one version of firmware merged cgminer 4.6.1 today, which is now being tested. And we will upload it to bitmaintech.com when it is tested running stably.
Please PM us if you have any request about current verson firmware.

3. how to upgrade latest firmware  to S2?
Now the latest firmware for S3 and S4 is ready to be released soon, that one for S2 is being developed. Stay tuned here.

So, in reality:

1.  S4 is compatible with p2pool?
NO

2.  When do we release the latest firmware?
Engineers have released one version of firmware merged cgminer 4.6.1 today, which is now being tested. And we will upload it to bitmaintech.com without testing it at all to make sure it works & is flashable.

3. how to upgrade latest firmware  to S2?
7 weeks ago we said in 2 weeks. So in in 2 weeks.
