Hi Folks,

I am new on bitcointalk and a newbie in the crypto world. I recently invested in some bitbay coins through bittrex. My question is, can I leave them on the bittrex plattform or do i have to store them on the bitbay wallet or client? Especially considering the upcoming fork?

If I have to store them on the bitbay wallet or client, which of the both would you recommend to use?

If one of you could help me with that, it would be great. Many Thanks! Grin

Always best to store your coins in YOUR OWN wallet, gives you control over your own money and you can stake the Bitbay coins.

Do you have any recommendation as to what is a good wallet? Again, I am new to this. Would I loose my bitbay coins if left them on bittrex even after the fork?

I strongly recommend the client. That's where all the tech is, and we are likely to abandon the Qt wallet soon anyway.

Who told you they are canceling the qt wallet? The client is far from perfect running order IMO, been over 2 years and still has same message that you can only list coins, same with Blackcoin, also takes forever to download and sync if at all for that matter. The qt wallet is the best choice IMO for now until they work out the kinks with the marketplace client. Not to mention for A noob user the client is far too complex.

I'm the operations manager in BitBay, and this is something we have decided on long ago. Downloads are slow, but we are about to fix that. That's a server problem, not an issue with the client. Syncing is as fast or faster than Qt. Agree on complex for noob, but then according to support requests, noobs have trouble with Qt too. We are looking into the GUI though. If you check roadmap you will see that we intend to have a new design ready Q1 2018.

My apologies did not realize you were on the team. I personally find the qt wallet better for trading purposes, I have been with your project since near day 1 and I have not been able to sync the marketplace client without constant reboots of the software and also keeping 2 keys versus just the .dat file I find troublesome, I personally prefer brain wallets with passphrases so you can always just add the wallet to any computer anywhere. Also no offence at all, but really not much going on the marketplace for 2 years so far. I have always loved this projects potential, I remember first time I heard of Bitbay and thought great idea as competition to eBay that robs you with listing fees, I hope to see your marketplace thrive in future.

No apologies needed. Me being a team member is not relevant for the issue you raise. Smiley I only mentioned it because you asked where I had my info from.
May I ask what OS you are on? I know we have had a lot of problems with mac, but on win it runs without any issues. Linux depends on linux version. Craig would be the man to talk to about that. Peronnally I think two keys is an argument for client -not against. But I accept that others may have a different opinion on that. The point of abandoning Qt in the future is to reduce the number of wallets to maintain and upgrade. We obviously need the client as that's where all our features are. And we also need the webwallet as that will be a major building block for RL use of BitBay. The web wallet could also be used as a local cold wallet if you like. We will look into making it easily awailable for that somewhere down the road.
I would certainly like to see our marketplace used more too. And that is also one of the reasons we want people to use the client instead of Qt wallet. That would mean one obstacle less compared to downloading the client in addition to Qt when you want to start using the market.

Makes sense that only having the marketplace client would increase the use of it. I am rather advanced when it comes to computer tech, I use various Linux flavors depending on changes to the OS versions. I have tried your marketplace on windows and various Linux all about the same problems. I think making the marketplace client more noob friendly would be a step in the right direction to attract the average user IMO.

I'll ask craig to make a post regarding linux. He's got a pretty full plate atm, so may take a few days before he gets around to it.
And totally agree on the need to make it more noob friendly. It is on our todo list. We have focused on develpment until recently, and looking at our wall of features http://bitbay.market/wall-of-features I personally think that was a good choice. But the time has come to prioritize user friendliness and marketing more.

so long as there is a long term notice about end of qt support i thinks its fine.

Some people will be away for long periods only preserving the wallet.dats

So long as they can always retrieve their coins somehow it is fine but dont want bunches of people turning up with old wallet dats and no way of extracting their coins later down the line,

That is also a reason we'd like to get as many as possible to use client now. No matter how long term notice we give, there's always someone that misses it.

That is what the templates are for. I'm working on Buy/Sell anything now and it will have auctions and reverse auctions too. I've been spending the past year improving performance. Consider this is like inventing a new color. Making decentralized markets stable and not drop messages was important to tackle first. Also to ensure the security and anonymity of Bitmessage etc.

I would agree, I do prefer brain wallets to files. However I think wallet.dat is extremely unsafe. For example, they get corrupted because it's constantly writing to it and we've seen people lose wallets due to file corruption on QT (happens on Bitcoin too). I've seen people lose or drop hard drives and then realize wallet.dat was in the users directory and have issues with recovery. Also it's in a hidden folder in an unintuitive location.

The two keys in the markets client is much easier, not mutable like wallet.dat, can be hidden in images and safe from hackers. Realize that the majority of hacks are from someone you know.

Also, I noticed about disconnects. Those don't happen in the newest builds as much (maybe still on some Macs but we haven't gotten reports lately). The goal is to start using electrum nodes to be redundant.

And lastly it took years for Bitcoin to catch on. Using double deposit is starting to catch on as people realize Bitcoin has no reversals (unlike credit cards). So the only true way to trust anyone on a crypto is DDE. I think this takes a while for people to wrap their minds around. BUT consider someone sold land on the markets, someone sold a gold chain, gems, hat pins, game codes, IOTA tokens etc. We do get a lot of people on it just there is a lack of volume which is getting slowly filled.

And we have yet to tap the potential on employment contracts, barter, binary options etc.

We get a lot of people taking faucets. I know because I see multiple reputation attempts come in daily.

We are living in exciting times.

And by the way thanks for being a long time holder to everyone who has been so patient to watch this project totally come out from the dust. It's awesome to be a part of.  Grin

With my running wallet (QT wallet version 2.0) I only get "1 active connection to BitBay network". I would expect more connections. Something wrong here?

You need to transfer your coins to your Bitbay wallet, so you can stake them and receive rewards for it. Smiley

this is really great news for storing the coin. even better would be if the client is webbased. this coin needs the market. and i think the market would be used more often if you did not need to download the hole chain.

All exchanges will stake the coins, just logical and profitable for them. Yes they need to be in a wallet to be staked.

No. You do not get any stake when you keep your coins on Bittrex.

Edit: And so far I have not seen Bittrex stake their hot wallets. And certainly not their cold wallet.

I know the customers don't get the stake funds, the exchange keeps it as a bonus.
