Fiat can buy all the miners and coins, Central bankers still win.
And yet nobody has done it.

It wouldn't even make any sense.
- Central bankers decide to buy all the bitcoins.
- Every hodler gets filthy rich in the process.
- Central bankers now hold all the supply, but since no one is buying/using it, it becomes worthless.
- Bitcoiners either buy it back for pennies or just fork a new version.

That's one sh*tty attack vector if you ask me.

Thanks for sharing.

Unless I'm missing something, I think it's a bit of a stretch to present companies like Visa or PayPal as crypto-exposed. If anything, they're probably reverse-correlated to the crypto market.
Although, to be fair, your snippet mentions companies' relationship to "digital assets" which is a broad term and could include a lot of different things.

Overstock?  I know they accept crypto and I don't think they use a payment processor like many other businesses do that accept bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, but I'm not sure how much they hold at any given time or that it'd be a good play on bitcoin in any case.  They're a retailer after all, and I'd assume that any profits or losses made by holding their stock would be due to their core business and very little to do with their relationship with bitcoin.

I don't think the fact they accept crypto would be relevant here, unless they're holding large amount of it. It's probably due to Overstock's ownership of tZero (a blockchain-based asset exchange). The same could be true for those other companies, maybe they own subsidiaries involved in cryptos.

93% premine to anyone born today.
100% premine to anyone born in 2140.

mined =/= premined

People have been killed for it and tortured (sure this happens with fiat but the blood is on your hands now).

How so? Why am I to blame for other person hurting someone for their bitcoins? Am I to blame for fiat-related crimes as well because I use fiat? Or does it only work for Bitcoin?
1085  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Searching for New Crypto Debit Card on: August 21, 2023, 07:50:07 PM
You can use Big list of debit card thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5280997.0 by @Ratimov to check all the existing debit cards that will be applicable to your case. He provided a brief details about the debit card feature that might help you to decide on what will work for you.

That's a great summary but it was last updated in 2020. And 3 years in the crypto world is an eternity. Some of the links there are no longer active and most of the details are outdated, and of course there are probably many new cards that are not included there. But there's still a lot of valuable info there, including the newest comments in that thread.
It would be nice if someone created an updated summary, but that would require quite a lot of research.
1086  Economy / Economics / Re: Can CBDC users lose control of their money? on: August 21, 2023, 07:35:53 PM
CBDCs are likely to play a significant role in improving the efficiency of the state's banking system. This is, in fact, an improved system of state cashless payments, so CBDCs will be under the full control of the state. And this means that the government can at any time block citizens' access to their money in their virtual wallets, as this is usually done with non-cash money.
But CBDC needs to be taken seriously. In any case, they will create certain conveniences for both citizens and the government with their banking system.

It's not just about having a full insight of your transactions or the ability to block your funds. CBDC will make programmable money possible. The government will have the ability to set expiry dates on your funds, or impose limits on certain purchases (i.e. to fight climate change) or, coupled with face recognition technology, they could fine you for any offences automatically (similarly to what's already happening in China).

But that could backfire badly in many ways.

1087  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wrong way to accumulate. on: August 21, 2023, 07:06:35 PM
One strategy that I came across some time ago, which I mentioned previously, is the concept of "Dual Investment." It's important to address why individuals often accumulate BTC incorrectly. This tends to happen when people jump into the market too late, during a period when Bitcoin is already experiencing a surge in value. Which all know that this behavior is often referred to as "fudding." Another reason is that many people attempt to time the market perfectly, but this can be challenging due to our human nature. At times, we might inadvertently miss out on opportunities.

I think you confused multiple terms here. Not sure why you mentioned Dual Investment, do you mean investment product offered by e.g. Binance?
When people use the term "accumulate" they usually mean to purchase gradually to slowly build up the desired holding. Buying at the top is not really accumulating.
And fudding stems from FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt), meaning spreading (usually fake) news and rumours to scare investors and drive the price down.

The bombs dropped on Sterling are just not bearable. His head bounced several times, he couldn't even stand to protest. When they see he didn't protect himself, they understood it's the end already. If the rules say we wait til a fighter is flat out, the majority of the fighters in UFC will not live long. Sterling be grateful to that referee or it would have been more slashes on his face and he might end up with a brain hemorrhage.

And Sean also just cut him out for a rematch by calling Vera who seems tobe his priority. After Vera that might just be the time we'll see who will be the next, Cejudo despite being old, will grab his phone to Dana.

In his post-fight interview, Sterling didn't really blame the referee. He said that he was not out and rolled over to defend himself, but he understood the decision. So there's no controversy here.
O'Malley ruled out a rematch even before the fight. His fight with Vera will be easy to hype but I somehow don't find it super-exciting. I'd rather see a rematch against Sterling or  have O'Malley fight Sandhagen tbh.
1089  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 20, 2023, 01:29:01 PM
Holy shit, Sean O'Malley knocked out Aljamain Sterling which i was not expecting the fight to be this easy for Malley and i was picking Aljamain Sterling to win Cry. Picture perfect right hand to his face and Aljamain Sterling fell flat on the ground and he finished the fight.

O'Malley made it look way too easy. He also managed to escape a takedown attempt quite effortlessly, which is something. It seemed like Sterling got a little bit too cocky by connecting with the left jab and got careless and rushed too hard. He didn't do his homework as everybody knows O'Malley is a great counter striker.
I wish I had taken my own advice and put money on Sean, he was definitely underrated by bookies in this one and in his fight against Yan, but I think it's fair to say he passed his test and deserves more respect.

If you don't have anything smarter to publish, then don't bother us with third-rate journalism to fulfill your signature quota Angry

If reading guidelines is too much for you, maybe you shouldn't be here in the first place.
This board is meant for sharing Bitcoin-related hits from the mainstream press whether you agree with them or not. So don't spam my topics with your pseudo-righteous, butt-hurt content.

The Press board replaces the Bitcoin press hits, notable sources thread.  The original motivation of the thread was to collect links that fit Wikipedia's definition of Notability.  Once bitcoin was deemed sufficiently notable (a milestone!), the thread became an ongoing log of links.  Discussion was discouraged.

2 Fucking weeks so far!

This is why I switched to a wallet with RBF feature (Electrum). Some would let you boost up the fee with CPFP provided you have sufficient unspent output.
1092  Economy / Economics / Re: Can CBDC users lose control of their money? on: August 19, 2023, 10:28:40 PM
Well, what better way to communicate about CBDC to others could you suggest? It’s impossible to talk about this in a nutshell, and ordinary inhabitants who rode under this bridge with an inscription will not read detailed long reads with all the evidence. The question is how to bring information to those who are not interested in finance at all until the day of their salary and going to the store.

I think nice and clean infographics with condensed information tend to work best, i.e. bullet-point-style information summarising all the potential threats that CBDCs can bring with links to sources or more detailed information in the footer. Something you can easily post/re-post on social media even as an image.
Plus, of course, watching and sharing any content of influencers (I hate that word) that comment on the subject, to get algorithms to boost it up.

Even if the majority of passing motorists are currently just wondering "WTF does that mean?", it's better to plant the seed early so that when discussion about CBDCs becomes more common, everyone will know that there is resistance to the concept.

Exactly, it'll click later on. Bitesize info is still more effective than walls of text attempting to explain everything in one go.
1093  Bitcoin / Press / [2023-08-1] The Independent: Bitcoin price dramatically crashes amid market... on: August 19, 2023, 10:07:39 PM
Scary title, but the article is pretty neutral and says this drop is not specific to Bitcoin and it's just a result of the broader economy that hit the traditional assets as well.

Bitcoin price dramatically crashes amid market worries

https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/bitcoin-rush-price-cryptocurrency-crash-b2395945.html

Quote
Bitcoin’s price has crashed dramatically, amid what seems to be a broader worry in the financial markets.

The world’s biggest cryptocurrency has fallen more than 7 per cent over the last 24 hours, and almost 12 per cent in the last week.

Other large digital currencies saw similar falls, though not as stark. Ethereum, the second biggest cryptocurrency by market cap, has lost around 10 per cent of its value in the last week.

The troubles mean that the crypto market as a whole is down 5.7 per cent over the last 24 hours, according to tracking website Coinmarketcap. Trading volumes increased sharply, too, and were up almost 80 per cent over the last 24 hours.

Thursday’s drop in the price of the cryptocurrency was the biggest one day fall since November 2022. That happened when large exchange FTX collapsed, sending shockwaves through the crypto markets and leading to widespread fears.

1094  Economy / Speculation / Re: The time has finally come...??? on: August 19, 2023, 10:01:09 PM
The dump that we are witnessing is not a big deal, yes the price went down but this does not change at all the strength of bitcoin or its long term potential, so instead of being worried about it people should look at this dump as an opportunity to buy bitcoin for a cheap price and as the opportunity to make some easy short term profits as well, after all if you can buy at 26k then it will be incredibly easy to make some short term profits once the price goes back to its previous baseline.

This dip seems to be just a normal market movement and is not even specific to Bitcoin, i.e. there wasn't any particular crypto-related event that triggered the drop. Other assets and major indices also noted losses. It's probably all due to the market expecting interest rates to remain high (or even go up) in the foreseeable future.
Some other cryptos like XRP, LTC, BCH or DOGE got hit much harder than BTC though, proving the theory that outside of the "alt season" it's better to hold just BTC.

There is a sexy fighting kitten for UFC 292 with very provoking images that I was excited to share to everyone, however, after reflecting on my life I have made a decision to share only images of proper fighting ladies.

I'm proud of you lad!  Grin

Adesanya has a huge kickboxing background, while O'Malley started to train late. Adesanya faced top fighters of his division with different combat backrounds, while O'Malley got only strikes and out of the top. Imho that is not a best comparison Cheesy

All I was saying is that you don't necessarily have to have a solid grappling background to get to and stay on top. TBH I had no clue at what age SO'M started to train (I read it was at 16), but that's not always a good indicator of a fighter's skills. He has proven that his style is pretty effective so far, and that's what really counts.
1096  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wrong way to accumulate. on: August 19, 2023, 09:13:02 PM
I have noticed that for many, getting rich quick is associated with buying altcoins, but I think this is a false path, because these are big risks and I am not sure that it is worth risking your investments at the very beginning.

The logic behind it is people think that since Bitcoin is already high (compared to its first years) and therefore the only way to get super-high returns is to gamble on low-market cap altcoins. And since they only have small capital, they feel like they have no other choice.
There's some truth to it, but that's not a wise approach. In the longer run, it's way better to be patient and invest small amounts the same (or similar) way you'd invest large capital, than to just to piss money away on a short-lived pump and dump schemes.
1097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What they used before Blockchain Explorer? on: August 17, 2023, 08:24:17 PM
Before the first block explorer was developed, Bitcoin community consisted almost entirely of highly skilled enthusiast who could analyse the raw data without BE. e.g. they could spot and fix anomalies like this one.

(...) Well, if that's true then how it is possible for people to trust on BTC at start (...)

Bitcoin was (almost) worthless at that time so it's hard to talk about any trust. We're talking about times when anyone could get 5 btc from the faucet and many didn't even bother to claim that.
1098  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 17, 2023, 07:47:30 PM
If Omalley is just a likable guy in the UFC, he might really have more fans than Tekashi rooting for him. But so far he is like the Josh Koscheck of this time.

That's a one harsh statement Grin
I don't think he's on the Koscheck level, at least not yet. My guess is he's a fairly laid back and likeable guy by nature but lacking a bit in the charisma department, so he's trying to force it a little bit too hard, either by his own choice or pressure from his manager or UFC. He's not convincing when he's trying to shit talk about his opponents, or like when he entered the octagon to face Sterling after his last win - he looked lost an out of place.
Most people can sense that. They would root for the good guys or the bad guys but not for someone who appears disingenuous and fake.
1099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wrong way to accumulate. on: August 17, 2023, 03:17:10 PM
I have the opinion that Bitcoin is still at its early stage despite a decade already gone as the technology is still new in most parts of the world especially areas that have been bounded by border-only payment networks. So I tend to think that anytime is a good time to get into Bitcoin and the crypto space as there would hyper growth in the coming years when the technology become the de-facto payment and storage of value system of the global financial system. Although the price might take downswing any other day but these are opportunities to acquire more and average down.

I don't subscribe to the opinion that we're still in the "early adoption" phase. Bitcoin's global recognition rate is too high for that to be true. Pretty much every adult has heard of Bitcoin at least few times in their lives even if they haven't registered that (i.e. because they're not interested in finance/technology).
That's not to say BTC has no room to grow. I can easily envision a scenario when it surpasses gold in terms of marketcap, but times of it doing x100 in one cycle are probably gone for good.
1100  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: August 17, 2023, 03:04:21 PM
Exactly. Imho whole O'Malley career is created by UFC. He is an UFC product. They have found a guy who can knock out people, he has charisma, he can talk, he can sell. They build him a history. Lets look on O'Malley career. The guy is having a title fight in few days and the only fighter from bantamweight top15 he has beaten is ranked 5 Petr Yan, who he won by split decision. And to explain that O'Malley comfortably had only strikes in his ufc career. He had only one bjj opponent, Vera, to whom O'Malley lost Cheesy

To be fair, O'Malley lost to Vera but not because of Vera's bjj skills but due to some weird leg injury, it looked like he took a wrong step and damaged his ankle or something like that.
Obviously he was fast-tracked by UFC into the title-shot, but UFC cannot manufacture star out of nothing - he has some solid skills. And, as proved by Adesanya, it's possible for the striker with no bjj/wrestling background to have a long reign as a champion.

As for the Saturday - Sterling is more likely to win, but I'd put my money on O'Malley due to the attractive odds.
