1221  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Becareful from scam site Gate.io on: August 28, 2022, 10:12:10 PM
Does that mean you still have access to your 2fa? what app are you using?

But if you lost access to your 2fa and you feel like the support agent was being negligent, I’d advise starting a new ticket about it and maybe you’ll get another person to handle your case? I had some occurrences with them where the support agent did not know what they were talking about…
1222  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: south africa has launched a SMS service to send bitcoin without internet on: August 28, 2022, 03:26:38 PM
SMS are insecure but we need to know how this thing works. we will be sending just bitcoins. not our pivate keys and seeds via SMS to anyone (should never be done)

That's only one way of accessing funds/crypto and it doesn't diminish the insecurities of SMS/USSD. Take centralized exchanges for instance, a hacker could wipe a user's funds long as they have access to the login information of relevant accounts + OTPs (if any), the private keys would not be necessary.

Quote from: spiker777
I don't think there is any issue as long as your private key is safely stored somewhere else

That's the thing, according from the article, the service is custodial and we have no way of knowing how are they safekeeping funds. There is no 100% secure setup but we'd be able to mitigate lots of risk by opting for self-custody. All in all, I can only see this for day-to-day transactions.
1223  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info iOS app: can't send / receive without verification on: August 27, 2022, 01:45:36 AM
Private key wallets shouldn't need verification but you seem to be getting a notice for swapping which is weird... have you tried reinstalling? I'm not in the apple ecosystem but on android, everything works fine.

They won't be able to stop you from sending and receiving if you have your backup phrase with you. I say ditch blockchain.com and move to a far better wallet like electrum.org-- send your funds to a newly generated wallet. Pretty sure blockchain.com will just add more clutter in the future...
1224  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Coincity-ex.com: is it a scammer? on: August 26, 2022, 11:06:25 PM
It is not working, this appears:

Same thing on my end. Maybe OP is whitelisted that's why it works for them? judging from OPs reply, we got the link right.

It seems incredible to me that someone decides to throw all their savings into some unknown company, I would really like to know where such people see the slightest logic that something like that makes sense?

Logic probably gets thrown out of the window. Instead, we have emotions/traits being the main driving force. Some people are too unwary/desperate/greedy/lonely/nice etc... which makes them vulnerable and the perfect target audience to scams.
1225  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Narlybit a scam? on: August 26, 2022, 03:40:02 PM
I figured if it seemed to good to be true, it probably was.

It is indeed too good to be true unless we're talking about dust amounts like cents or something. There's always a "catch" with every "promo". Meaning to say, the exchange has to get something in return and I don't see that with the description given. I can only imagine them bleeding money with that kind of setup since it's an actual "giving away"...

But if we think of the possibility that they're a scam, it all makes sense. Unsolicited DM, luring users thru unsustainable "FREE" stuff, new exchange and therefore no reputation. IMO the latter is more likely.
1226  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: need sites that use stripe payment on: August 24, 2022, 01:42:21 PM
Hold up. Isn't stripe just a payment processor? and afaik they support loads of payment methods. I would also try looking into the payment method/s you have in mind. I think in terms of convenience there should be other payment processors that are more or less the same.
1227  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What do you buy/want to buy with crypto? on: August 24, 2022, 08:06:16 AM
Maybe add more crypto-related things that locals would usually get overseas e.g. steel plates for seed backups?--best to become an official retailer of some brands-- it gives your platform an edge since locals would save on the shipping cost. Offering discounts for other stuff could encourage people to opt for crypto payments as well.
1228  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Coincity-ex.com: is it a scammer? on: August 23, 2022, 11:39:53 AM
If they ask you to pay first (which won't be deducted in your balance) in order to withdraw, it's a scam + their reasons were ridiculous lmao. In the future, avoid no-one-has-ever-heard-of exchanges like this.

Two things you may wanna check:

1. if the loss is tax deductible, for instance see: https://koinly.io/guides/ (I'd consult a CPA to be extra sure)
2. recovery chances are extremely low but another thing to try is to see if your coins went to a centralized exchange using a block explorer that tags known addresses e.g. oxt.me for bitcoin, etherscan.io for ETH - if the coins did, you would need to involve the authorities.
1229  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Pretending Binanace to Scam People! on: August 22, 2022, 10:04:46 AM
So did you get your gift or not?

are you perhaps curious about the voucher? it's just some dust amount like cents. As per the disclaimer, the 500BUSD isn't spendable, you will only get the interest. If you're interested, check your reward center. My account was actually being showered by the same voucher and I didn't notice until I went to see my reward center lol but this was more than a year ago so it's possible binance slowed down.
1230  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Pretending Binanace to Scam People! on: August 20, 2022, 03:05:06 PM
Upon checking, I don't think it's phishing as well. According to binance's handles authenticator, see: https://www.binance.com/en/official-verification both <do_not_reply@mailersp1.binance.com> and <bntrace.com> are theirs + as robelneo pointed out, the final link is indeed binance.com which can be checked in any URL redirect checker.

Still, I would only click link/s in emails when necessary and this time, it's not.
1231  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Trezor, Ledger, and Passport: The TOS and Privacy Policy Battles on: August 19, 2022, 11:34:27 AM
Nice work! maybe you'd be interested in contributing your thoughts to tosdr.org? it's a project that "rates and labels" terms of services, making them easier to digest.
1232  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMED 14K :( @ M.Bitwallet.Finance, and BitProCorp.Com on: August 18, 2022, 02:56:32 PM
Alternatively, OP could check if their case is tax deductible in their country, see: https://koinly.io/guides/ (consulting a CPA is likely needed to be extra sure)
1233  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] ░ Godex.io - NEW EXCHANGER WITH FULL PRIVACY FEATURE ░ on: August 16, 2022, 11:45:29 AM
Can anyone tell if this exchange is legit?
Their Trustpilot seems kinda sus since they have like houndreds of 5-star reviews and a few legit looking really bad reviews about coins not being transferred.

I got an ad for this in brave browser and thought it looks kinda good as a dex without registration etc.

Well, their page has been flagged by trustpilot lol. I'd look for an alternative in the Instant exchanges thread

Alert
We’ve found out that this company is breaching our terms of use with the way they’re displaying Trustpilot content. They could be showing an inaccurate star rating or TrustScore, or displaying reviews they’re not permitted to use. This could be misleading.

We wanted to let you know that this company hasn’t been playing by the rules. We take the integrity of our platform very seriously, and when we uncover misuse, we put a stop to it.

I'd also like to add that it's best to treat these instant exchanges as a CEX without registration since they're also centralized. They can block your funds and request KYC, not to mention a lot of them probably gets liquidity from CEXes like binance, hitbtc etc...
1234  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin ATMs with no PhotoID in Australia on: August 15, 2022, 01:03:37 AM
@op, you may wanna check out: https://kycnot.me/ for possible alternatives.

As to OP's question, I've visited a few BTCATMs around where I live (they seem to be everywhere nowadays), and I'm pretty sure all of them have a camera pointing at you.  Even if its function is to scan an address's QR code, you'd have to assume that it's also taking a picture of you as well unless you know otherwise.  There was one I used that required a picture ID, but the rest of them didn't.

Another thing to consider is how much CCTVs are covering you on your way. For starters, wearing something to make your face harder to recognize would be a good idea e.g. face mask, cap, etc.
1235  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: EXMO.com ALERT SCAM/FRAUD - HELP - All Withdrawals Blocked [Error 10220] on: August 13, 2022, 01:05:03 PM
Same thing again? It was working fine for a few months, now blocked all withdrawals (including crypto). Then later shut down the site.

Website's back now, still can't withdraw?

Just for clarity, the link in the OP is exmo.com but in your screenshot, the link is exmo.me. Are both links from the same site?

Looks like some domains are for certain locals. For instance, if you go to exmo.com and change the language to russian, you'll be redirected to exmo.me.
1236  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Issue with the new Bitpay APP on: August 13, 2022, 02:26:53 AM
Does the good old pressing down to paste the text not working?

In any case, an alternative is: (also on android)

select which coin wallet > in your upper right, select the 3 dots > share address > you'll be presented with available apps for quick sharing
1237  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: south africa has launched a SMS service to send bitcoin without internet on: August 12, 2022, 09:44:13 PM
SMS are easily intercepted which makes it insecure, see: https://proton.me/blog/stop-using-sms?

I guess if you understand the risk, you can do amounts you're comfortable losing but significant ones? nahhhh. Let's not forget that someone near me can easily pluck out my sim card with some sort of needle and if they replace it with a new one, it would probably take some time for me to notice.
1238  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Another one bites the dust! But this one's different. The Hotbit case. on: August 12, 2022, 09:07:50 AM
it's a bit strange if Hotbit claims to be headquartered and comply with Hong Kong regulations.

Well, the only hotbit out there in hongkong is marked as "dissolved" (unless they go by a different name).

Cancellation Date: September 04,2020
Active Status: Dissolved
Date of Dissolution/已告解散日期:2020-09-04

It's interesting because they still claim to be registered according from their about us... so I couldn't help but to look into Estonia's as well only to find out they were registered only a year ago despite hotbit claiming longer than that.

Registered 06.04.2021

All this lying ain't a good sign. Makes me even more on the fence about the whole thing since we don't have any outside info at the moment.
1239  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fake Google Sheets Extension - Scammed | New Update! on: August 12, 2022, 12:42:14 AM
Hmmm. If I were you, I'd opt for a fresh OS installation since we don't know what slips thru AVs and our own eyes. Probably opt out on extensions in the sync settings as well, just to be extra sure.

You can try to compartmentalize if you're dabbling with potentially dangerous stuff like pirated softwares, keeping the data of malicious extensions, etc.
1240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First Bitcoin in Space (Casacius Coin) - What to do with it after it comes back? on: August 10, 2022, 01:36:47 AM
Taking it from place to place would probably get a wider reach specially since we don't know how often the chosen museum/gallery would put it up on display. The hard part is you'd likely have to dedicate a good amount of your time and effort for this.
