If stakeholders are so greedy they can't risk 1% of their coins maybe they don't deserve to make any gains long term?

I don't care about risk. But you said we should dump coins and crash the price, then buy all sell orders up to 40-50. So in result we'll have a huge hole between sell and buy orders. Does it sound smart to you?

For me it sounds like you set a buy order at 10-12 satoshi and want someone to dump you some coins.

Actually no one said you need to buy up the entire wall. Just pick up a few BTC and then clean out the fake sells that if you look at them are often only a dollar or less! They are layered fake sells.

IF you want the price to go up, buy about 10 BTC of Qora. It will go up, people will notice and jump on.

Hi Drak,

Just an update about my problem. It's finally solved  Wink
The problem was that I was trying to install Vialectrum with 2FA (and not the standard as you recommended but I didn't pay attention) and that was what was preventing me to install it (maybe a missing plugin on my end ?). Anyway, everything works well now that I installed the standard version.

Now, can I import the address generated through my paper wallet or should I wait the end of the ICO ?

Good news.

You can import the address to vialectrum yes, but, when the funds arrive I suggest you move them to a vialectrum generated address because then it will be backed up by your seed. Imported addresses have to be backed up separately.

ah, good point. Will the wallet have a simple sweep function?
1343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] [VIA] Viacoin - the future of digital currency on: July 14, 2014, 09:43:25 PM
Quote
Block 1 = 10,000,000 VIA (to be distributed by presale)
Blocks 2-2001 = 2 VIA

Typo: it's 0. Corrected.

LOL. Nice. Another IPO with no chance to mine.

The idea here is to allow non miners a chance at initial coin distribution and the initial 0 blocks are to prevent instamining and give everyone a fair shot at getting their wallets and pools configured.

You're going to have 2800 + blocks per day. So, after day 1 your mining reward goes to 28,800 coins mined per day.
1344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | Release July | 100% POS | New Source | IPO Started on: July 14, 2014, 08:27:54 PM
Wow so much money going into this coin. Do you think it is reasonable to ask for 750? What made you all decide to invest?

I like the concept of giving the FINNs a stipend of this with perhaps a goal of making it a national currency. I also like the additional block rewards. I don't love that they are holding coin back. I think with 750 BTC they have plenty of money to pay devs for past and current work and rely on comminty donations for other work an bounties.

But, it is was it is. I treat all cryto coin buys as lottery money. Although, I would rather it fail organically than be a scam. But, the devs seem to be working hard and listening to the community. They didn't have to set a cap, and setting one makes me feel much more comfortable about it.
1345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | Release July | 100% POS | New Source | IPO Started on: July 14, 2014, 08:08:21 PM
As best as I can tell from the numbers currently posted, I think we are around 525 BTC right now once you calculate for returns. It looks like the Buy order constitutes roughly 1000 CRSALE and the sell order 200 BTC. The admins at BTER assured us that they are monitoring the numbers closely and will let us know when we are approaching the 750 BTC mark.

how soon after it reached 750BTC it will be the real launched?

They planned to run the pre-sale f0r 30-days. So, I doubt their schedule will change. I would say at least mid august as originally planned. But, I'm not on the team.
1346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | Release July | 100% POS | New Source | IPO Started on: July 14, 2014, 03:41:25 PM
Geez, so we can expect mega dump (just when initial price will be set by free market) after coins will be distributed?

Right, say you just spent 1 BTC on Crypti and you get 100k or so coins. Are you going to sell them below the price you just paid?
1347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: July 14, 2014, 03:10:23 PM
I'm not to familiar withe the technical aspects, but would some programming logic work for this?  For Ex.

If one wallet has less than 51% of the total supply of all mined coins, then just allow the wallet to accept more coins, otherwise don't allow any more coins in the wallet.

Not really possible. A "wallet" isn't a feature of the block chain. The block chain knows about addresses. A wallet is a collection of private keys to certain addresses.

So, the more correct question is, could the core code prevent 1 address from having more than 51% of the coin.

The answer is, yes, except that wont work. Why?

The wallet is open source. So, someone could modify the code so that their client ignores that condition. Now, you will say, but the network won't allow those transactions. That's correct...however, while the software doesn't allow more than 50% of the coin in a single address, that doesn't stop one PERSON from having multiple addresses that contain more than 50% of the coin.

So, once some one person has more than 50% of the coin, whether in a single address or multiple addresses, they basically control the blockchain.

The whole premise with PoS is that in order to obtain that much coin, you would have to spend a HUGE amount of cash... because as you buy more coin, the price will increase. Now, once you have spent that much money, do you still want to make it all worthless.

The biggest risk to NAUT as a POS at this time is the small coin population. It won't cost as much money to control 50% of the coin as it would for say, NXT which has 1 billion coin tokens.

I hope this explains it without rambiling to much.

---

Also, the mintpal issue was NOT a 51% attack. Someone bypasses the MINTPAL API and got into the wallet API and ordered a transaction. That is from what I read what happen, it was not a 51% attack.

Yes, you will have to wait for 1440 confirms before moved coins will forge.

bummer.  i dont feel like my dgex-created wallet provides adequate safety for my coins.

but i dont really want to sit out for 24 hours of forging.

altcoinproblems.

decisions decisions.

If i move coins to a new wallet, do they have to wait 1440 blocks before forging?  or was that restriction just for the genesis dgex coins?

EDIT:  I actually created the new wallet i want to move the coins into a few thousand blocks ago (and did a couple transactions from that wallet)

Yes, you will have to wait for 1440 confirms before moved coins will forge.
1351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: July 13, 2014, 11:08:27 PM
Dude you don't need to be a whale to move the market when the vol is 2 btc!

What a dumbass. Look at trading history. Someone is closing all buying orders over 23-25 satoshi. If you set a buying order at 30 for 2 BTC it'll closed within minutes and you won't move shit. As I said you too fucking amature to make any conclusions.

Are you saying that the exchange is closing buy orders above 25 sat when you say "Someone"?

Looking at the order books on bter it wouldn't take much to move the price up to 40 sat, maybe 2-3 btc.

By someone I mean a couple not very smart initial investors who don't understand how to make any money.

You can't move price up to 40 with 3 btc. You can buy all orders up to 40, but 1 minute later you'll see new ones. It won't change anything until there are those guys who are dumping.

I see what you are saying. Sounds like a buying opportunity.

I would like to get in, is Dgex best possibility right now?

Either that or OTC. Although, I'm not sure if an OTC thread has been started.
1354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: July 13, 2014, 08:17:37 PM
Need some help here downloaded wallet received some nxt coin sent some nxt coin however when clicking on forge I get the following error Your effective balance is zero, you cannot forge yet I have coins in my wallet

Your coins need to have 1440 confirmations to start forging.

Ah ok thank you for the info.

Also another question I have the client downloaded running etc. How do I unlock like the old version where it was web based. I have put my phrase into it but I dont get where it tells me if it is unlocked or not ready to forge?

I'm not sure I understand your question. the NXT UI has always been browser based.

Or, do you mean some website on the internet where you had previously used your password?

When you log into the NRS, via the browser or the Wesly UI (which is basically just a browser too) your "server" is forging, unless you use the "logout and stop forging" choice.

I am referring to this as I have software client.

That's still a "Web based UI". The NRS is installed and run in the background. You can still, while that wallet is running access it via your browser at port 7876. I also use that wallet for the simplified one click installer, but keep it minimized to the tray. I access it via my browser so I can use LastPass to auto enter my passphrase when needed for transactions.

So, my answer is the same. If you log into it, then it is forging, or will start once you have 1440 confirms and you have an effective
balance.

I hope that answers your question.

moment like this i would love to be able to just eat that 37 btc (i think it's suppression as well cause POS is just around the corner) , c'mon people let's eat that 37btc(lol i wish)

Edit: if thios was any other coin you would see people dumping like crazy but it's staying pretty strong
I don't think it's a bad thing Smiley It means that someone is trying to control the price before a push, or someone is giving whales an opportunity to eat the whole wall and enter the market at a good price. Either way that wall is coming down quickly once the train starts rolling, regardless if it's pulled or eaten.

I think you're right. That wall won't last long, nobody is selling.

Question remains....Why is somebody selling 36BTC worth @23500 sat?

Just for the record, this was not me selling...in fact I just bought some at 2400 SAT on MintPal

Don't you wish. I assume you mean 24,000 Sat.

Wondering i was first Wink

Saw it on my awwwwesome red BlackBerry Z10 at work via the PBM Android-APP

Altcoins:

I´m still not sure which coins i buy for 1000$ (this amount i´m willing to lose, for me it´s gone when i buy those coins but but maybe hit a jackpot. who knows?)

There are some Not BTC Fork Coins:

http://mapofcoins.com/?btc=0#

Which are the best bets?

I try to stick with stuff that as you say, isn't a clone or me too.

You have NXT, which is basically the first Gen 2 coin with unique features like aliases, asset exchange, colored coins, digital good store, etc.

Then there is Monero, which seems like the first coin with truly will implemented anonymous features.

There is NAUT which has a wall street investor backing and "selling" it along with a "stabilization fund". NAUT recently sponsored John Fitch a UFC fighter and the community is running a Facebook ad.  Granted, the code is a BTC fork, it is POW right now, but will switch to PoS soon.

Qora, while it has some attributes of NXT, it is new code, has a voting system, an active dev. Although the source has yet to be released or audited.

So my wallet's been stuck 8 hrs behind for a while now. Should I be worried?

It's SOP until POS.

No payouts? Has the client been updated?

Yes, you should be on version 11.
1360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Crypti | Release July | 100% POS | New Source | IPO Started on: July 12, 2014, 08:11:30 PM
is it possible to view the total volume on BTER?  i cant seem to find that stat.

I think it is 5000 - amount left, which right now is 4639. So, 361. OF course, you would have to deduct the sell backs from that, and there's not simple way to do that, and the trade history doesn't go back to the start. So, I'd estimate it's around 300 BTC at this point.
