Brainstorming

I'd like to introduce a concept of a new feature called Account Control. This feature will allow to do different things with ur accounts. For example, u will be able to set a lock on an account to prohibit any outgoing transactions until a special condition met (e.g. an incoming transaction from a predefined account). Another example is Pooled Forging, when an account leases its forging power to another account.

Please, post here what u would like to see in Account Control.

Both features you mentioned are Great. The locked account can be a saving account. Or it could be used as an escrow monitored account as the escrow account is the predefined account. Tremendously helpful.

Can a locked account forge ?

Where the guy who was going to create a decentralized poker game? With AM it becomes possible.

I don't know why there was no noise about that! Decentralized poker game is something that may skyrocket NXT. Poker players have been waiting for this for ages! There have always been accusations of rigged software(rigged random generator) and also with decetralization the rake(that's how fees are called in poker) would be much smaller! Have in mind that rake in cash games is about 8-10bb per 100 hands. Best players earn 1-2bb per 100 hands. So, if rake falls only with 20-30%, poker players would earn twice more (or lose less for some). Would be soooo gooood for nxt!

I know at least one guy is working on it. He made the coinflip game for NXT. It just takes times to make an appropriate game. I surely would welcome more people developing poker games. BTW, poker is the second most expensive alias to register so far. Someone is going to make sure that money well spent.

At least I think I've figured out the real reason why they resit checksums: it should have been a design decision, but somebody screwed up and now it looks too costly to fix, because everything is tied up on BigInt. Am I right? Well, consider the fact that the cost of fixing grows with every passing minute.

I don't know the details of the system, but here's an idea: at some point you are converting some random string into bigint to get the account number, right?

Convert it so as to get 56 bits instead of 64. Then append 4 bytes of CRC32 or 4 last bytes of MD5.

After that no changes are required, except when accepting the transaction. Then you take the address and verify the checksum.

If I am way off, figure out a way yourself, I am sure between 3 of you, you have more than enough brainpower to do so...

Sorry to sound harsh, but this is beyond ridiculous at this point.

By the way, anybody else seen these ads here?

I think it is all about taking priority. I don't think anyone resisting a safeguard to avoid costly mistakes. It is just a matter of How and When.

Here's a fun diversion.  I just waded through hundreds of pages of CfB and Jean-Luc's posts to build a full change log history for Nxt:

http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Nxt_Software_Change_Log

I also want to point out a comment I found in a forum thread.  Guess which cryptocurrency this guy is talking about?

Quote
the genius doesn't lie in the code base, but in the algorithms and that the code is crap. I agree with that assessment. ... I've been thinking about refactoring the code myself. Everybody is afraid of breaking it since it appears to work, and that is reasonable to an extent, but on the other hand this code base is utterly unsuitable for serious work.

It's Bitcoin.  And the thread was started in June 2013.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=225163.0

Who wrote that? I agree completely with his assessment and it applies to NXT, too. Thanks for finding it. Also thank Ricky for your effort in the whole hacking issues. You guys give me a lot of hopes in the nxt community and its causes.

Thanks! Smiley

Well we will need it when NXT is as big as Skynet and we need to decide whether to destroy Kim jong jun to free the people there.
Still can be solved with actions.

In my eyes Nxt is absolutely silent. No one can talk as Nxt. It'd not be saying: "Let's go bomb some place!", saying anything. Such thing would mean exactly center exists and growing (less people, more power).

Explain how can my hypothetical example be solved with "action" ?

Nah it would work like this. An account would broadcast an message request a voting on bombing a certain place before a deadline. Accounts   would vote or not vote before deadline. At deadline if the votes are enough, drones will be sent out automatically to carry the mission.

If you don't want to vote, just don't vote
Incorrect. I don't want such feature to exist.

So why do you want to "suppress" my request?
1629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Thread: Main on: January 08, 2014, 05:00:36 AM
I'm curios why anyone need it. And I can't command u or dev. Ofc, I'm still disagree with idea, for now not so strong to leave project immidiately (I foresee many discussions and, may be fail of implementation, not a technical one, I suppose), but strong enough to discuss it  Smiley

1630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Thread: Main on: January 08, 2014, 04:53:00 AM
I disagree with this opinion. I think we need a voting system. Now how can we come to a consensus ?
By actions! For example, (honest) Bitconers and Nxters in consensus, each one supports liked sysem. No voting needed and no one is suppressed.

We are not talking about bitcoin here, aren't we?  Now could you answer my question?
Same with alias-selling supporters and haters. Both groups can be in consensus w/o voting. Each group'll have their own network (if could manage it, ofc). No supression!

So you don't mind the developer  implementing voting system for me right? If you don't want to vote, just don't vote. What is the matter then?

1632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code flaw reports on: January 08, 2014, 04:07:24 AM
Some of these are probably duplicates by now, but here's my 2 NXT:
  • The entire source is implemented as a single file with lots of inner Classes. To enable distributed development this should be decomposed to at least one file per Class. This is especially true for Curve25519, which just added more clutter when merged into the same file.
  • The genesis block is hardcoded into the source. Generally static data resources should be packaged separately as some sort of format that can be easily restored when requested.
  • Why are hex strings used for serializing binary data to and from JSON over the wire? Other encodings such as Base64 would save on bandwidth and overhead of the protocol.
  • What is the benefit of using unsigned longs for most of the ids? In particular the accounts. Although the hash is giving 256bits of output, 192 of them are being truncated and ignored in these cases.
  • One barrier toward wider adoption of NXT is the requirement for whole numbers for amounts and fees. So far the code appears to have all of those values as ints or longs which would make transitioning to a divisible NXT difficult.
Lastly, have you guys thought about providing unit tests or using quality analysis tools like FindBugs, Checkstyle, or PMD? We're going through this at my day job right now, and I have to say early in the process is the best time to try set such standards.

Hi are you new to crypto or you just created a new account here ?

My friends, I have one question about the economics of bitcoin mining. What would be the average cost of mining 1 bitcoin currently ?

any source to detail information  ?

What can of details you need. Any calculator will give you current numbers if you entered electricity cost and difficulty.

Yep, I found this site http://blockchained.com/profit/index.php . Some friends asked about Bitcoin mining. I want to tell them that there is no profit there but I need to learn some more technical details first.
Go for NXT. That is the future.

Where can I see the volume ?

https://www.dgex.com/trading.cgi

"24h Volume: 685BTC"

Does it have a chart or something. It is difficult to do comparison with just a number.

Re-posting my Public Service Announcement:

If you are new to Nxt and don't want to read through 807 pages of forum posts, come to the wiki:
- Learn about Nxt
- Get started
- get basic questions answered in the FAQ and common problems pages
- Learn how to set up a public node on a VPS, using laowai80's steps
- read up on the Nxt high-level API, which you can use to build apps, games, clients, utilities, and more

Also remember there are great forums with lots of info and support for beginners. Many of the best Nxt wiki articles are based on information originally contribute here:
- The nxtcrypto.org forum
- The nextcoin.org forum

I comb these forums every day and pull tidbits to update the wiki with, so that you don't have to.

This thread is long and daunting for new folks.  Don't get frustrated -- come to the places where new folks are welcomed and pampered!

Joe, I think your wiki site is great. Very well-organized with such a rich and accurate sources of information. I love it and direct newcomers there all the time.

Have you guys seen the price?  Volume is good.  Are we seeing big stakeholders unloading?

BTC isn't faring too well either.

Where can I see the volume ?

For how much longer do we tolerate this ?!?!? I definitively moving out to forums.nxtcrypto.org - they have very nice slidebar. I'm sick of Graviton's puppet forum. Please don't call it official anymore.

We already established that Nextcoin is not NXT official forum. On that premise, I think it is reasonable that you show some respects to the host when you enter his house. That's what I am going to do if it is my forum too.

nxtgt did not mention anything really negative about dgex and Graviton want him what? Not to mention that dgex have some fees and it take some time to withdraw and deposit funds... It is not the first time the nextcoin founder censor some exchange-related topics there.

Honestly, I think Graviton already acted in a reasonably good faith by allowing competing business open in his own forum. If you want an independent forum, please go to nxtcrypto. There would be no censor there.

Also, this is confusing:

Is DGEX not part of the community? What makes the NXT community separate from DGEX? Are you referring to the forum? Does anyone else see what I'm getting at here or am I a complete lunatic?

DGEX is a part of NXT community, just not official in any capacity. Pin is also not a official voice of NXT community.
