@ny2cafuse - you forecast what we plan on doing..Wink

I know, mate... I'm in your head.  There's a lot going on in here, but it's cozy.

I'll add laundry and housecleaning to the list of things that I would do for a job as well.  I've roped the wife in.  That's 2 people for the price of 1... a steal!

In all seriousness though, plans sound good.  Keep up the good work, and keep us informed.

So Fuse if you land a job there will you change your username to ny2ca2philippinesfuse  Grin  I know the American saying is "Go west young man" but at this rate you'll end up back where you started!  Roll Eyes

LOL... ny2ca2WhereEverTheWindTakesMeNextFuse...

If coins are in shortage for the people actually using them(the businesses), why not set up an official businesses buy section for trading.  I would much rather sell to businesses that are going to use them as intended, instead of someone on crypsty who is going to hold 50k and pump and dump it just because.  Or set trading priority on trading for registered business accounts.
1683  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAG] TAGMining.Com- Try your chance at our weekly jackpot!!! on: December 16, 2013, 04:39:44 AM
You could do a jackpot based on finding a block, but have it weighted/adjusted so that whether you have 300kh or 300,000mh, you have the same chance. This may attract numerous smaller miners? Having whales is nice also, so maybe a prize for fastest found blocks or most frequent finds or something?

I like the fastest block idea... that's a reward that anyone could possibly get, and easily traceable.

I was thinking about giving away some of the Tagbond RFID cards I have as rewards.  I know it's not cash or coin, but it would help spread the word.  I think the biggest thing is just getting more people on the TAG bandwagon.

Maybe we can pull Mark over here with his farm  Grin
1684  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAG] TAGMining.Com- Try your chance at our weekly jackpot!!! on: December 16, 2013, 03:31:30 AM
The whale will probably be back.  If not, spread the word about the pool.  If GPUs were available right now, I'd put some jackpot money into a GPU for a monthly prize.  But that would require a working exchange too lol.

Maybe I'll look at this for next month.  Anyone have any suggestions for promotions to draw in new miners?
1685  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TagCoin - The World's First Rewards Coin on: December 16, 2013, 02:33:15 AM
I hear what your saying, mate.  I agree with the exchange worries completely.  However, I'm pretty sure he's putting a lot more than $50k into getting this stuff up and running.  There is a lot of capital behind getting this stuff working... salaries, infrastructure investments, etc.  If I had the money, I'd buy myself some gear to start a farm too.  And I'm going to throw this out there again: Mark, I'll scrub toilets if it was the deciding factor in landing a job with you guys out there.  As long as I can afford to pay for a roof over my head, I'd leave tomorrow!

Not a complaint, just some constructive criticism- I just wish there was a github style changelog to see what's going on.  I think Mark or lead devs from the team should keep a running worklist with task tracking.  At least it would give us something to oogle over while we wait for whatever is next.  Plus, if it was something open-source(of course the exchange wouldn't be), the community could help audit code and contribute to the overall system.
1686  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TagCoin - The World's First Rewards Coin on: December 15, 2013, 11:59:09 PM
Mark,

While your big mining farm sounds like a good plan, why not invest that time and effort into promoting and expanding the exchange to encourage miners like myself to release more coins into the market place instead of competing with us. The price of TAG is already dropped significantly due to supply exceeding demand.

I am not interested in pumping and dumping, but I do have bills to pay and it would be great to have a way to quickly and economically turn TAG into USD, even better AUD, to help pay the power bill.

Just a thought,

24Kilo

+1 to making the currency exchange a priority.

I could always take care of all that gear for you  Grin

EDIT - Cryptsy is throwing a 502 error right now.  So between that and the guy who took it upon himself to talk to the Florida attorney general about getting it wrapped up with an investigation(stupid jerk), that's the largest volume of TAG trading off the market right now.  So +2 to making the exchange the top priority.
1687  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAG] TAGMining.Com- Try your chance at our weekly jackpot!!! on: December 15, 2013, 05:37:48 PM
Just a reminder to the miners out there that the jackpot logging started about 9 1/2 hours ago.  Remember that last week's jackpot pool has carried over to this week due to the issues we had last week.

So get in now if you want to try for the double jackpot this week!

I found a block... I found a block... I found block #17371!!! Yoo hooo!!!!

We have been doing some really long rounds today... hope tomorrow is better.

Grats, mate!

Now make sure you say that every time we have long rounds... we had 7 rounds that were 25% expected shares or less in a row.  You're like a mining round fortune teller.
1689  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TAG] TAGMining.Com- Now with 100% more load-balancing. Weekly Jackpot! on: December 15, 2013, 04:35:11 AM
Ok here's the skinny on what was happening:

Bad news... the mysql slave server at some point lost connection to the master which threw it out of replication.  So the front-end knew that it had written block, share and payment data to the master database, but when it went to read the info from the slave it wasn't synced.  Thus the missing block confirms, finders, etc.

Good news... nothing was lost during this time, and the time earlier today.  All the data was properly written to the DB.  I was able to shut down the slave and kick the reads back over to the master without any downtime.  Also, I've been monitoring the resource usage on the master DB, and it looks good.  I think with the live data turned off, we'll be ok just running the master for now.  Looking back now, the upgraded server we had before probably would have been fine had I known about the live stats being the issue.  Either way though, we're still churning out blocks, and the pool is working properly now.

So crisis averted... again.

We're still recording blocks and shares, but the front end isn't reading the back end properly.  I am looking at it right now.
1691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TagCoin - The World's First Rewards Coin on: December 14, 2013, 09:31:01 PM
What if the website had a dynamically-updated list of pools, showing which were online? Just off the cuff I'm thinking there'd need to be an account/worker for each pool, then a daemon on the website could poll a certain frequency to make sure it can connect, and show online/offline. If offline for X amount of time, it would drop down the list into the 'offline' section.
Or something.

i used to have that on my site. its as easy as signing up to uptimerobot. entering the url/port for each pool then fetching it with php on the site

Mark, maybe this is the answer.  The only issue I see with uptimerobot though is the fact that a front-end might be up and showing up with uptime robot, but the backend might be down and the pool isn't mining.  That's why I use to uptime stats on my pool- one for the website and one for stratum.  A pool worker would supply a API JSON string that you could use to do a getdashboarddata or getpoolhashrate query.  The hashrate stat would quickly show what pools are mining and which ones are dead.
1692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TagCoin - The World's First Rewards Coin on: December 14, 2013, 04:24:37 PM
yes, we didn't create that, but we will have to do something similar on our tagcoin site..:-) - We all use it every day...gets to be addictive viewing sometimes..

Am I just blind and not seeing it anywhere?  Link?

Edit- Also, the Tagcoin.Org site is listing a couple mining pools that aren't really working anymore.  It might be easier to give a quick video on how mining works(like the other Tagbond/Tagcoin videos), and then give a link to the ANN post of this thread for a list of pools.  The pools will probably change a lot as time goes on, so it would just be easier to update it once in this thread and reference it on that page.  Just a thought.

I'm up... and I'm looking into it.

I've restarted the databases, and some of the block stats have started to populate.  I'll see why they all haven't.  Worst case scenario, I'll manually alter the tables with the info in the logs.  There was no lost mining, shares or payouts... just for some reason the front-end wasn't reading the back-end correctly.

I'll update as I find out more.

Update- Everything is back to normal.  I'm going to say a hiccup.
1694  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TagCoin - The World's First Rewards Coin on: December 14, 2013, 06:59:27 AM
@24Kilo & ny2cafuse Always nice to see a friendly advice from a fellow pool owners and miners Smiley Thanks!

It is hard to get a pool off the ground when the difficulty shoots up. I will lower the fee to 0% for a while and transfer some of my own Tagcoin for a bonus fund, will see if that draws some hashing power my way.

NP, mate!

Just throwing this out there... another idea would be to take the Tag you put into it, and use the PPS payout system.  I believe there's only one PPS pool ATM, so that alone would be a draw.  However, you need to do your math on how much to payout on the shares, or you might end up in the hole.  But I'm not as versed in PPS as some others, so maybe someone else could offer some advice.  But again, just a thought.

I wish you the best of luck though, mate.

It's saying i've exceeded the pool's tag threshold warning thingy, the payout warning. JFYI.

Good catch, thanks for the heads up.  Max payout now 250TAG.

Thanks, mate!

If you are serious about the pool, start a thread, offer rewards and be prepared to work hard and take good care of your miners. We need another good TAG pool.

Amen to that.

LeftToeCut, if it wasn't for me going out of pocket on rewards at the beginning and devoting 100% of my free time to making it work, I wouldn't have a pool right now.  You're in a good position right now, as the established pools have all scaled back block rewards and such.  I'm running a jackpot, but thankfully it's all fee and donation funded now.  So invest in some TAG and offer a block reward or special block rewards, and you'll pull some miners looking to capitalize on earning a little more for their time.  Once you get to your first week of 10MH+, things will slowly build from there.

In this pool op game, you need to spend a lot to make a little.  Once you get established, it will all even out in the end.  At least that's what I'm learning from this whole experience.

If you ever need any help with anything, PM me.

Also...

The whale has come back, and things are looking really good with the live stats disabled.  I don't want to jinx it, but I think we might be ok now.  I might shoot Hashfaster's OP a PM and let him know how to alleviate some of the load.

Fuse,

Thanks again for all your hard work. I do not need live stats. What are API calls and what are they used for? Did I just expose my computer illiteracy?!

If I can get the cards, I am planning to bring a dedicated miner online later next week built around a pair of 280X's, and it will be dedicated to this TagCoin and this pool.

I need to start working how to turn TAG into cash to pay some bills, I do not want to dump coins, just sell enough to pay the bills. I know I should not be putting all my eggs into one basket, but I firmly believe that TAG is going to be a success as it has many attributes including a great dev and admin team and more importantly a reason to exist.

Thanks for all your hard work.

NP, mate... thanks for sticking around.

That goes for everyone that stuck with the pool through all this.  I said it at the beginning, I just the pool to feel like a community where everyone has a say in how it runs.  I don't want to be the greedy pool op who only cares about padding his wallet.

I just got a sweet deal last week on a 5830, 5850 and a 850W power supply.  So it's not a lot more hashpower, but it's going towards the pool.  If I come across more deals, I'm snatching them up.

I think once Mark gets the currency exchange nailed down on Tagbond, it will be extremely easy to do some money conversion.  At that point I won't have to transfer TAG->BTC->USD just to pay for the pool servers, which is kind of a pain now that I think about it.  I just wish someone like Bitpay would make a debit card backed by BTC.  So when you load your wallet with BTC, you would be able to pay for things in USD with it.  I would pay an addition 10% or something for a card that did that.

As far as the ASICs and FPGA scrypt boxes go, I've had some conversations with members about maybe going down the road of hosting one or two and selling "shares", much like what the big BTC pool farms do.  If it gets to that point, I'd be very interested in hearing peoples opinions of this.
