17461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I know everyone asks this same question, right? on: January 07, 2014, 08:14:08 PM
so.. which ALT do you think will survive in 2014 and actually make it to, say, btc-e?

Litecoin is almost as well established as bitcoin itself, and is arguably even better.  Aside from litecoin it is really a gamble, but I think Peercoin, Worldcoin, Namecoin, and (maybe) Primecoin all have real potential.  If you to go coinmarketcap.com and sort by volume, you can get a pretty good idea of which alts are real contenders.  Here are the top 9, by volume:

Litecoin is established in what way? I'd say it doesn't come anywhere close.
17462  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org = Bitcoin version of Alibaba on: January 07, 2014, 08:10:23 PM

I guess the argument they will make is that banning them wont stop them from scamming; they'll just create a new account and start over again with a fresh slate.

I understand that. So cant they block that IP address to make it a little less streamlined for them? its like shooting fish in a barrel.

IP blocking someone is almost useless. There are tons of proxies/vpn's and even simpler are dynamic IP's. Negative Trust from "default trust" list will drive most of the business away from the scammer though.

Even still, ban the username, along with their IP address and email address. They then have to make a new hotmail/outlook account and register again with a different IP on bitcointalk.org.

I can make multiple scam accounts on ebay or troll accounts on youtube but after a while all of the verifying becomes so tedious that its not even worth the effort. We need that here. The goal isnt to eliminate scammers (impossible) its to make it annoyingly difficult to have multiple accounts.

I don't think scammers are that fussed about creating a new email and user account, especially when there's Bitcoins to be earned.

17464  Economy / Goods / Re: Who runs this site? Would you like to make Bitcointalk.org Merch? on: January 07, 2014, 07:34:45 PM

One more spot yet I will just charge you the difference if shipped to the UK. Let me know if you want on the list you have the last spot.

Ok. Can you check out how much the shipping will be though?
17465  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Positive/Legit News Stories - Facebook testing bitcoin? on: January 07, 2014, 06:26:52 PM
Hey Everybody...

Do you consider these news stories out today legit?

http://www.bitpaychina.com/thread-82-1-1.html - Very good yes?

Also Senator Carper talking very positively about bitcoin on CNBC, google carper and bitcoin you'll find it.  Just posted on CNBC. Positive yes?

Thoughts?

Pretty sure that just a BS rumour.
17466  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Site timer broken? on: January 07, 2014, 06:26:02 PM
Not sure whats going on with it but I've been logged in for days and have been browsing on here quite a bit and it only shows 4 hours?

I think it only counts time active on the forums ie browsing etc. Just being logged in doesn't count.
17467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coinye West - Don't f**k with this coin on: January 07, 2014, 06:22:28 PM
Wut, mining starts today at 7 pm pacific time???
http://coinyeco.in/
isnt this thing going kinda weird last time? change logo to some fucking fish, change domain, now change launch date.. I see.. never more fucked up launch and they are just doing the same!
what do you think about it?

Maybe they were not allowed to use his face for the logo or something? Is that a possibility? Anyway.. the miner and wallet were supposed to be available 2 days before the launch. It's not even there yet.

Yup, they raped his trademark, god huge attention for nothing, and now probably Kayne and his army of lawyers want their share Cheesy
So devs had to change logo to some idiotic fish and are trying to launch it ASAP, so they can MAYBEEE do it on some shitty exchange, dupm their premine and instamine there and then vanqish..
nice fail coin

You sure? What trademarks were these exactly?

New giveaway posted. All users enrolled in this months advertising campaign will receive double! https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=401267.0

So, do we have to be part of PrimeDice to get the 0.002 for the signature campaign? We did get you traffic for your site advertising your business you know. I hope yes, because my heart is pounding right now with Joy! Grin

Yes, you get that deposited in your account there. Not per post, just a one-off payment.

I'm curious if I register there (just to get the payment) without ever playing, will I be paid the bonus (provided I give my ID in the thread)? Or, was this exactly the intention of the new giveaway to attract new users to PrimeDice?

I'm not certain, but I think you should be able to do this as you meet all the criteria and it doesn't say anything about needing a pre-existing account, just an account.

I would like Stunna to clarify on this. I'm not much of a gambler, so I don't want to register just to get extra money. Probably, I could try to play if these coins would be deposited in the site wallet. You know, easy come, easy go...

They will be deposited into your account on the site. The sign-up is almost instant from what I remember.

You wot m8?
17471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My mission manifest on: January 07, 2014, 06:01:46 PM
You are certainly right about that.

The problem is that "new members" do not have they guards up.
They trust in random people.

I hope to draw more focus on the possibility of scam to new members.

Look at this case:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=372030.msg4361734#msg4361734

Poor guy send $200 to a scammer? How could he do that with no security?

Newbs gonna newb. You wont get to most of them in time as scammers tend to do their shit in private messages away from the prying eyes of the more weary seasoned members. Usually blatant scammers get torn a new one pretty quick, but I guess it's always nice to have somebody dedicated to this (as long as this is the case and you don't actually turn out to be some sort of scammer  Cheesy)

17474  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Told you so, OverStock.com pushed price of Bitcoin over $1000 on: January 07, 2014, 05:50:53 PM
Overstock backing out wouldn't really surprise me, but it would be silly of them to do. Lose credibility with an entire network of potential customers? Nah, they will just wait a year or two to make sure they can't lose money on it.

They can always back out for business reasons.I think they've also got a board to please, haven't they?
17475  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fully Secure chat on: January 07, 2014, 05:46:30 PM
Is there any chat service that is 100% secure, and encrypted chat that no government can track? I have nothing really to hide, but I like the fact that there is something out there that the government cant control. Cheesy
Skype one to one chat (both voice and text) used to be encrypted from end to end, but I am not sure about the current situation after they bought by Microsoft.

Pretty sure NSA has backdoors into it as well.

What part of Mexico are you from?  I'm just curious as to whether the Sinaloa Cartel is active in your area or if it's Zeta or CDG controlled.

You sure know how to chat up a woman. I'll remember to use the so what do you know about drug cartels line? next time I meet a Mexican woman haha  Grin

And Monica, are you actually Mexican, or did you just go there?
17478  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My mission manifest on: January 07, 2014, 10:48:49 AM
Hi everybody

My name is ScamAlert.

This is my mission manifest:

I will browse the forum thin to investigate and reveal scams.
No scammer will ever be safe again.

They tend to do a pretty good job of revealing themselves to be honest. 'No escrow' 'Do you accept Paypal?' etc  Grin.
17479  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Place to Advertise Services for BTC on: January 07, 2014, 10:46:08 AM
I am a graphic designer, website production specialist & also sell retail products online. I already am accepting bitcoins through my shopping cart on my retail site, but so far no bitcoin customers (granted, it is a niche product, and the world is still awakening to cryptocurrency).

SO, What are the best places to advertise services/products payable by BTC (and altcoins)? Aside from this forum, of course.

Job4bitcoins or on the marketplace here.
