1821  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Get a bitcoin to solve the puzzle on: May 27, 2018, 05:14:26 AM
I have spent over 15 hours solving this puzzle but couldn't even get a clue nor am i able to understand the clue given by the host . Grin

Normally these types of puzzles require cryptographic knowledge to solve, and since you immediately have no idea where to even begin, then I doubt you had any chance of solving it to begin with.

Also, you have to consider that this problem was designed for tens to thousands of minds to work on, as such it will probably take a cross-disciplinary approach to solve it, as there were likely multiple people involved in its creation too.

So you mean people who have cryptographic knowledge can only solve this ?

it is a bitcoin related puzzle so you have to have some knowledge about the cryptography that is used in bitcoin at the very least. for example one possibility is that there is a BIP39 seed hidden among these words, so you have to know how seeds work, what clues to look for, how many words there are in a seed, the checksum,... in order to figure it out. and that is just one of the simplest possibilities to solve this, there may be many other more complicated ones.
1822  Economy / Speculation / Re: Still think it can hit 20k !! be optimistic on: May 27, 2018, 05:00:44 AM
there is no doubt about reaching $20k and above for bitcoin, the doubt is always about "WHEN" it is going to reach that price. and all the arguments is about that too. some say it will be this year and by the end of the year it will be at $25k setting a new record. some say it will take a longer time and the discussions continue but all of them agree that the rise will take place.

as for ETH that you mentioned the ICO thing is a good point. and it will happen. there will come a day where you don't see any more ICOs be created just like we don't see new coins with huge premines being created these days. there will be only one or two every now and then. and the price of ETH depends 100% on ICOs so it will fall hard.
1823  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: difference between 1$ coin and 1000$ coin on: May 26, 2018, 11:43:30 AM
you are absolutely right but one thing is missing from all this:

coins that are smaller, which usually translates into having a lower price like $1 and less, have a much bigger potential for getting pumped harder. for example you will never see a coin that is worth a lot like $1000 be pumped 500%. the best you can hope out of these big coins is a 50% pump to 100% if you are lucky before they are crushed.
but 500% to 7000% pumps in these small coins are pretty common because their market is small and pumping such coins is a lot easier. for example you can easily pump a shitcoin worth 1 satoshi to 11 satoshi and that is easily 1000% profit!

this certainly doesn't mean you have to invest in those or if you do you will become millionaire. this is just pointing out the potential of pump.
1824  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading Volume of BTC dropped even when the Price is Discounted one! on: May 26, 2018, 11:14:41 AM
However if you guys checkout the market right now then you will see that there is huge drop in the market 24 hour volume. Surprisingly the price per bitcoin is also lowest but still the traded volume is low.

you are probably comparing the daily volume of today which is only less than half the day gone with days before which are full days and full trading volume. if you want to compare you either have to compare it by the end of the day and say it has dropped "significantly" or you have to do some sort of hourly comparison.

also today we didn't have that much change in price which means there were fewer trades and that means less volume. also I agree with what Tytanowy Janusz said above about the volume drop.
1825  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC price moved by emotion and mood! on: May 26, 2018, 10:15:14 AM
saying this without explaining what market looks like first is a bit misleading.
the market that this is talking about is the cryptocurrency market in general and mostly focusing on altcoins. generally speaking this market is very small and susceptible to news. and when it comes to altcoins the market is filled with a lot of inexperience people who call themselves "investors" but in fact they are just kids throwing away money and gambling with it instead of investing.
in this market it would have been surprising if things weren't moved by emotions.
1826  Economy / Speculation / Re: Irish authority published its new cryptocurrency taxation guidance. on: May 26, 2018, 07:51:49 AM
I think those who are into cryptocurrency, that is living in Ireland will now move to a different country,

people are already paying taxes for a lot of things. for nearly everything that they do in their daily lives that involves money and they are not migrating to another country just because they have to pay taxes!!!

Quote
if we started to pay taxes, what is the sense of using decentralized currency if we are just going to give it away to the government,
you never pay taxes for using bitcoin, a decentralized currency. instead you pay taxes when you use bitcoin in a centralized platform which is connected to fiat. for example when you are trading it with fiat on a centralized exchange.
1827  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Btc phone scams happening??? on: May 26, 2018, 07:09:07 AM
well I remember when all these ICOs were gathering cryptocurrency users information in the name of KYC I said that they are just accumulating information to sell and use for these kind of scam and also advertisement. now you can see what I mean! the most obvious one is the Email spam, social media spam and now this is the newest method with calling spam/scam.

if you are already in a database like that somewhere be sure that you are also a target.
1828  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How anonymous are Bitcoin debit cards? on: May 26, 2018, 06:40:52 AM
there is no point in using bitcoin debit cards if you are looking for anonymity and a "fiat" card where you can spend everywhere since you are not spending bitcoin but converting to fiat then spending it using these cards. just buy prepaid cards from shops where you simply can pay cash and be nearly 100% anonymous when doing that.
if you want anonymity then use bitcoin directly and if you want full anonymity then use an anon coin like Monero.

ps. regarding address how about using a P.O. box?
1829  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Before Investing in Cryptocurrencies on: May 26, 2018, 06:35:19 AM
this is not a clear suggestion though! when you want to tell people to be careful when investing and consider a bunch of things then you have to explain why each of these are important and what they mean. for example your #4 and 5 "Technical difficulties" and "Transparency" are too vague. even I have no clue what you mean about these!
1830  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What cancer is keeping Bitcoin and the crypto market behind on: May 25, 2018, 10:57:31 AM
Year 2018 has been the worst year for the crypto market by far! So what is the cause, the CANCER of it this year huh?
that is your perspective to see 2018 as a "bad" year. another perspective is seeing it as even a better year than last year. we saw a lot of rise which meant we could buy less and less bitcoin every day to accumulate it for the "big boom". now that price is lower we can buy more of it again Wink

Quote
In my view the cancer is BCH (Bitcoin Cash)
we blame bitcoin cash and specifically Roger Ver's shenanigans for a lot of things that are happening to bitcoin but not everything!

Quote
As you all know bitcoin is the main driving force of the whole market and as long as gains made by bitcoin cash BCH are higher than the ones made by Bitcoin sorry folks Bitcoin will not let it grow that way.
BCH gains were not higher than bitcoin.
BCH gains were not even higher than about roughly 60% of the altcoins!

Quote
That's my simple view to why the market sucks this year. In my view bitcoin cash must die if we are to go up. Notice how as soon as bch starts moving up faster than bitcoin the show stops there. As soon as Cash is down bitcoin and market is breathing again. I am pretty sure if bitcoin cash slides to 5th in market cap it will slide to 6th and then leave the top 10 all together very soon. Maybe we will all have a breather then.
care to show this to us on an actual chart.
try overlapping two charts and point to where you ses this happening
1831  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Coinbase Purchases Crypto Trading Platform Paradex on: May 25, 2018, 10:48:37 AM
I have got a feeling that these US bitcoin related companies are trying to steal the market and own all of it or as much of it as they can. Coinbase is not acquiring new smaller companies and a while back it was Circle that was buying stuff up such as Poloniex and some other thing I forgot. and soon things can turn centralized in US...
that is something to worry about.
1832  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trolling to Mr. Buffett is not fair. on: May 25, 2018, 07:29:40 AM
bitcoin has always been with drama and people involved it bitcoin love the drama apparently. that is why there is a lot of this type of back and forth in the media and I mostly blame the news sites for exaggerating and changing the truth about things and then spreading it everywhere as others keep copying and quoting them.
as a result people don't listen to the interviews, they just read the articles and then answer the articles not the interviews or the person!
1833  Economy / Speculation / Re: As bitcoin plunges, mega-bull Tom Lee stands by his $25,000 target on: May 25, 2018, 07:17:48 AM
nah, it is no longer "typical crypto volatility" as he puts it. it is much bigger than that. we have seen price staying strongly above $8.5k-$9k levels and even have the tendency to break $10k and the market was perfectly ready for it too. and any failure would have meant a temporary drop down to support level before going back up again.
but as we see price dropped and then followed down more. and now it is stuck in $7k range with not much money coming in anymore to buy it up. this smells like manipulation to me. and because of that any rise to ATH and beyond has to wait until either manipulation ends or price reaches a bottom where everyone else sees as a good chance to buy bitcoin and they can no longer fight the buying power and price reverses up.
1834  Economy / Speculation / Re: How you know Bitcoin bearish or bullish trend ? on: May 25, 2018, 07:09:38 AM
being bullish or bearish is not just about going up or down respectively. it is about going higher and dropping lower also.
for example when you say market is bullish it means price has gone up and also it will go higher. so buying means making profit. opposite of that when you say we are on a bearish trend it means price has dropped AND also it may drop more so buying is not suggested.
in other words you use these trends to decide whether it is better to buy or sell at different times.
1835  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is energy consumption going to hold bitcoin back? on: May 25, 2018, 05:47:47 AM
at first look, specially at the media with all their drama against bitcoin these days it may seem like bitcoin is wasting a lot of energy but the fact is that it doesn't matter how much electricity bitcoin is using because it is providing us with a valuable utility that we are using and need it.

it is like saying the fossil fuel you burn in your car whenever you go out with it is a waste of energy and the energy consumption is holding "cars" back!
1836  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is bearish trend now. on: May 23, 2018, 01:09:55 PM
Bitcoin still on bearish trend. Until it cross 8900$ for me still bearish trend. Up to where it will go down no one can say exactly. Might be down up to 7500$ to 7K. But if cross 8900$ then Bitcoin will bullish trend and price will increase rapidly and recover itself.
When it reached $9,900 it was still on a bearish trend. Don't assume that once it reached $8,900 it will be on a bullish trend. It's easy to say and speculate but we don't hold the flow of the market. Just to be sure, don't expect and hope that much and if you are riding the trend just buy up to this type because it might go on a bullish anytime as we are not expecting it to come.

$9900 was not a bullish trend, I also agree with that. but it was not a bearish trend either. it was an unclear trend with a tendency to turn into a bull market but it failed. I don't call it bearish because there was a very nice upward movement shaping up after all the drops and it lasted long enough, it was not just a couple of days of rise, it was weeks. and also the general opinion was positive.
but the unexpected dumps came and ruined the trend and brought back the bear market that existed before.
1837  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Advertising on: May 23, 2018, 12:58:22 PM
Today in South Africa on our radio station 90.6 at 13:00 the presenter even read the current Bitcoin price. This is amazing to keep our radio listeners up to date.
Does your country radio stations keep you updated with the current Bitcoin price?

Nope and I don't want to. Less people here in cryptosphere, more opportunities to me.  Wink

we usually say this as a "joke" but you would be surprised to find out how many people actually believe this and also act on it. meaning they stop at nothing to prevent the adoption of bitcoin for example by spreading a lot of FUD day and night so that they can buy more bitcoin over time.
1838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin have more risks than benefits? on: May 23, 2018, 12:46:48 PM
if I buy $100 worth of bitcoin and enjoy using the only decentralized currency in the whole world am I taking more risks than benefits? of course not.

you see everything is a matter of perspective. if you are investing all your life savings and taking a loan to invest in bitcoin and a lot of other weird shit then of course the risks are a lot more than the benefits.
but if you are investing some money that you don't want or better yet some money that you were wasting, like if you were smoking, you can invest the money you were wasting on smokes every day to put in bitcoin. that is surely a lot more benefits than the risks.
1839  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: John McAfee Says the Cryptocurrency Bull Rally is Near on: May 23, 2018, 08:02:28 AM
Goldman Sachs has plans to open Bitcoin trading to Big investors and exchanges have been preparing for the flow of institutional money,  I am of the opinion that bull will rally this year

Goldman Sachs was planning on doing that but the finally decided not to, and instead they changed their plans into introducing a new Bitcoin Futures in place of a Bitcoin Exchange. and while that sill may be a good news, it is nowhere near as good as if they started a proper bitcoin exchange because we really needed one that is regulated and more trustworthy.

regarding Bull Run, I don't see it happening anytime soon with the current trend and the way the manipulative dumps are taking place these days.
1840  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strong hands VS Weak hands, who will win? on: May 23, 2018, 07:42:38 AM
Some greedy old timers are fuelling the fire, because they know those with little faith will sell their coins to them, if they can scare the wits out of them.

that is part of the problem though. sometimes it seems like everyone wants the price to drop so that they can buy more bitcoin and because of that they do everything they can to push it down, be it dumping, spreading FUD, misleading others,... it is just newbies that lose money and also miss out on buying bitcoin at a discount in this process  Grin
