2341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: November 28, 2013, 01:09:39 AM
I would also propose a cap to the 0.5 % inflation after 3 years -
...
then 3 following years of .05% inflation .

At the moment Quark will have 0.5% inflation after coin generation. I'm open to have a community vote on what the inflation should be.

At the moment of launch, and the months that follow, is crucial to adopt strategies that ultimately aim to increase adoption. So, I guess the question we should ask is this: —How does the 0.5% inflation rate affects early adoption?

Many people rush to invest in cryptocoins because of their deflationary nature, not all, but most of them are, and we have Bitcoin to blame. The word "inflation" and the term "inflationary currency" can, and possibly will, scare uneducated investors who fail to understand the advantages of Quarkcoins.

With that in mind, here's an alternative kickstart strategy:

1. Keep the inflation concept within the coin. (The argument is QRK is suppose to be a currency, not an asset) — But...

2. For the initial years, set the inflation rate to 0%, and raise the reward fees. (That will attract miners and investors alike) — Then...

3. Set a GOAL. Once the currency achieve parity to the dollar, lower the reward fees, and kick in the maintenance inflation. Safe and sound.

At the moment, it seems that Quarkcoins are growing at a steady rate, and as that happen, more people get interested in learning about them. While I'm just an amateur in economics, I'm an expert in communication, and surprising as it may sounds for some, words can make or break a deal.

Fair comments: Just one most important point to consider..

Unlike (nearly all) other coins, Quark has a rapidly stepping-down block reward. That means that the vast majority of the coins have already been mined. The 'inflation' is therefore important to maintain the mining support (transaction fees would also do that, but the mining gives more flexibility). The 'inflation' element in other coins is greater for many years , as they will take much longer to mine out.

I have obviously made an error. Prices don't match in LTC or BTC. No deals until I recheck the correct prices !

Is anyone in contact with btc38 about listing QRK in China ?  Their volume is exploding higher, and several Alts. have benefited (Megacoin is up 500% in just a few days).
2345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ledgendary Economics Cult figuer Bill Still > intersted in Quark > on: November 25, 2013, 01:49:48 PM
I have held Quarkcoin for months. The MultiHash Genetics arealmost unique and the accelerated mining subsidy reduction is making scarcity come into play..Community is growing also.

Speaking of translations...

I have someone putting together the html files for the Dutch, Turkish, German, Swedish, Spanish, French, and Italian translations of the CB website.  They should be going live within 24 hours.

Great !

As you say, the Chinese speculative money will move around the various Alt Coins.  Interesting point : MegaCoin is the biggest riser in last week (500% ++) and that coin may be plainly more attractive to Chinese Culture . Apart from the promotion and translations, the dev is 'Dr Kimoto Chan' and the Custom Designed QT Client is very different, all in a rich red !  These small points make a huge difference (I am not suggesting CGB can copy any) and I envisage the CGB community working quietly but steadily towards a Universally attractive Coin Model.

The problem for Megacoin is now the very speculative flows that boosted it in the first place. Hot money has a habit of exiting suddenly for apparently undetectable reasons.

Have you seen the recent meteoric rise in the prices of MEC and ANC? It happened after they got listed on the Chinese exchange btc38.com
I heard they have a couple of empty slots for other altcoins, how about community effort to approach them and introduce to benefits of CGB listing?
You can see QQ contacts for the staff at the bottom of the page (go to http://www.imqq.com/ to set up an account for QQ communicator).

Mercury, I contacted you a week ago via PM regarding CGB website translation into Polish, but received no answer.

Apologies.  I will contact you via pm right now regarding translation.

I have been scanning btc38 and I'm loving how active it seems...and not just in terms of trading volume.
And I also noticed the QQ contact info and was going to inquire with my friend, who did the professional Chinese translations of the CB website, about how to contact btc38.
But it seems you answered my initial question regarding using QQ--I will set up an account now.

Related to your point, CB hit 2 million market cap being traded only on Cryptsy, which is impressive.  So I'm looking forward to more exposure by getting listed
on these Chinese exchanges.

Cheers.

YES...CGB was early in having a Chinese website translation, now the real action is on btc38. There are several other Alt Currencies who now have active campaigns to list on btc38.

Anyone who can contact btc38 as  an interested investor asking why it isn't on their exchange: Please also post here any links for English speaking btc contact, so that supporters can email them. This is one instance where size of community has enormous advantage: CGB doesn't have enough people yet, but this is good practice for the future.

I was thinking about this, so how does this go? BTC goes up, everything else goes down.

Because the exchange rate CGB/BTC is based on BTC.  Just look at it using numbers:  1/10 , 1/100 , 1/1000 = .1 , .01 , .001
You can see as the denominator (bottom number) increases from 10 to 100 to 1000, the overall number gets smaller.

But the dollar amount is still looking good:   http://coinmarketcap.com/

Then BTC crashes and everything else goes up and then BTC goes up again in a more sensible way?

Yeah, because strong holders take up the supply so that the next leg up has less selling pressure.

The wise strategy is to build reserves in order to buy the quality alts whilst BTC is ramping. When the price breaks, you will be able to pick up the better coins just before they make their next moves up. I am picking up small amounts of CGB as and when it is offered low, but the big game hass a small window of opportunity.

..and this is exactly what happened after the pause in BTC price.  Interesting to note that CGB was one of the first to move up, others followed. The same pattern will be repeated, no doubt.
2350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CryptogenicBullion (CGB) • Upgrade to v 1.1.6.4 • Nov 5, 2013 on: November 24, 2013, 07:29:00 PM
Yes, your wallet won't mine stake while it's locked.  Smiley

Once you have coins that have been stationary for at least 30 days then you should unlock your wallet
to mine stake by typing the command in the Help->Debug Window, console tab:  walletpassphrase PASSWORD 99999
where PASSWORD is replaced with the password you used to encrypt your wallet.

And once you have mined your stake you can once gain lock your wallet by typing the command:  walletlock

Thanks for mentioning this! For me this was also not clear.. I think you can score extra points with the CGB community by adding some sort of wiki with facts like this Wink

Also looking forward to the next release after reading some of milestones and please dont make the mistake by taking smf as forum software... This software is absolutely horrible and it anoys me al cryptotalks's want look to much as btctalk. When you want to stand out (and i think this coin deserves this more then most alt coins out there) go for something like XenForo or IPBoard. Really, these forums are actually the golden standard...

edit:
it would also be a good idea to redirect the http traffic to the new https on your main site

XenForo and IPBoard...okay, this is exactly the kind of suggestions I was looking for.  Thanks!

I need to clean up the styling for the https site and I shall setup redirect today.  Smiley

A wiki is a great idea and I hope someone can write it up!  I would do it myself, but I'm already doing everything and there's only 24 hours in one day.   Tongue

Cheers.

I am happy to contribute and write up a Wiki. I have never edited a Wiki, so I would need to learn, or if someone else wants to set it up, I will steadily fill in all the relevant information and keep it updated.

thanks for the info - can you show me how I tell if interest is added, and tell me if anything should appear at 2 months-ish after starting wallet? I have had a wallet for a while, but not immediately seeing how I can tell any interest is added. Would I have to export data? There have been some ingoing / outgoing transactions, but there have always been coins in the wallet for over 2 months.

I will write a thorough guide and explanation to answer all your questions by tomorrow.
Thanks, appreciated.
Any one know if there is a guide yet? I may have missed a link somewhere, any help appreciated. I have latest client and coins in the wallet since 19/9 but no interest - does that only appear after 1 year?

My first Mined Stakes started to appear after about 50 days. I had not had any outgoing transactions by then. I get regular stake now if I leave my wallet open for an hour or more at a time.

Your wallet needs to be open whilst the CPU in your machine attempts to mine stake: It wont come in immediately, but as your CPU is able to find the blocks, I believe.

Also, your outgoing transactions may remove your aged coins, and you are replacing them with newer coins which do not qualify for stake, either from 'change' sendings or you general incomings.

Actually I did reply the very same day, stating that when I tried to reproduce the crash, it was now working, I couldn't reproduce it.

I understand if you can't reproduce the error, and therefore don't know what is causing it... no problem.  I am a software engineer and I have seen it time and again.   But your hmms and winks and subtle suggestions that because people have never been in this thread before or haven't posted for months they are somehow not credible is a cop-out, why are you trying to discredit your users?  You can take that however you want, it's not meant as an attack, just constructive criticism.

I honestly missed that message.  Apologies.

As for my reaction to some of these threads...haters abound in this forum.  You should see some of the pms I get from newb accounts that get left stranded after they send their msg to me.  It's...entertaining.

Haters abound in all forums... You are doing fine, stay positive and don't let them grind you down. Moderate accordingly !

Quick query: My client has just mined 6 stake transactions in the last 30 mins, but one of them is showing as 'Offline . Generated but not accepted'. The others are confirming normally. Do I need to take any action ?

BTW, I fixed the checkpoint error with a clean instal.

Good point, being 'early' isn't always a benefit.  It's a risk people take.  Wink

Very huge risk, cuz in my oppinion you need huge amount of money to get your coin alive and get interest of ppl
[/quote]

Small risk in my opinion, considering the rewards of success.

The winners in Digital Currencies will now be the ones who are prepared to take those risks with 'real' fiat money. 95% of players in the Alts have pennies or no money at all, and are scared of risking 50c.
2356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [CGB] Petition for listing CryptogenicBullion on BTC-e on: November 17, 2013, 08:16:55 PM

Not enough coins, huge advantage to early miners. Doubt it but good luck.
What advantage did Satoshi have mining early? Enough has been said.

Is this from crack?

Not enough coins for what?  For you?

Satoshi sat by himself and mined BTC for months...hell, BTC was a nerdy little secret for a year before reaching any kind of notoriety.  Don't give me that 'early miner benefit' bull shit. lol

The "not enough coins" argument is laughable, from a money supply perspective.  It shows mathematical ignorance.  Mainstream media also laughed at Bitcoin because it's "finite" but currency needs to be abundant so to flow, which is a statement of ignorance as well.

Here's some basic math to show it depends on the dollar amount and money supply.  And just an FYI, there are coins with half the supply of CGB on BTC-e.

If you mapped a correspondence to the lowest denomination of CGB (one satoshi) to the lowest denomination of the USD (one cent), you get the following:

CB                  USD
.00000001        .01
.0000001          .1
.000001            1
.00001              10
.0001                100
.001                  1000
.01                    10000
1                       100000

So, potentially, the money value represented by CGB's total coins is $100,000,000,000  (Do you know how many countries have a money supply of worth $100 trillion...heck, how about $100 billion?  Not many at all.)

Not saying 1 CGB will represent a value $100,000 at all.  But what I'm saying is that the dollar amount and total market supply represent the M1 money supply, which in turn can provide the stimulus for a strong M2 supply.

Let me know if I eased your concerns.

Have a nice day Smiley

early miners have advantage if that coin succes, but what if that coin falls?!?! They waste their money

Free market. Never a 'waste' when returns are potentially so high.

Need help then :  someone with good experience running a forum.
Luckily with the wide community, there should be a few individuals capable of this.

If I recall correctly. you did a good job with GLD forum before the 'troubles' ! (we need to make sure that CGB Talk gets off to a sound start)

Okay...now is the time to have our own CB forum.

I'll try to have a CryptogenicBullionTalk.org up and running within a few days.  It'll come in handy has more participants join the MADEsparq Project.

But I'm swamped with the PR push and getting registrations at University Conference talks all together.

Email or PM me if you have anything dire to discuss.

Cheers.

Please support CGB by signing this petition: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=333699

How many 'signs' do we need before they consider it?

300 should be enough.  I guess it will fall way short, but will be interesting to see how many supporters there are.
