1361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ECCoin (ECC) Community Has Takeover! [New Dev] on: August 17, 2014, 11:12:09 AM
The hardfork for wallet version 1.8 for EasyClearCoin [ECCoin] will be live as soon as we finish compiling it (doing it now).

The code as been edited to address the following things as i had stated before:
- block chain speed issues (block times are being taken from 45 seconds to 30 seconds.)
- staking issues (it will no longer be 42 days to 84 days. it will be 8 hours to 7 days)
- inflation rate issues (flat inflation rate matching the average economy inflation rate of the last 20 years, aka 2.5% with decay)

The official meaning for EC in the ECCoin name is Easy and Clear. the Coins now official name is EasyClearCoin.

which means yes, i am currently working on a clear send protocol (its not done yet) that will be out in the next major update of 1.9. (maybe a week or two, depending on how much time i have) this protocol for sending will work to do the opposite of what cloak coin and dark coin tried to do. instead of anoning and hiding the transactions of coins sent across the block chain, this coin will work to make the chain more transparent and easier to follow so that it is easier to track coins rather than make it harder. i believe that having this in a coin will make it easier to be accepted by the current standing governments and such because it is easy to address their biggest excuse for not allowing bitcoin [money laundering]. i will provide a more detailed description of the protocl and how it works when it is more towards completion.

Please can you clarify the changes to PoS % in the new wallet. Do you think it is wise to change any % at this stage (min/max times I understand) ?

I will wait to see how development goes in the next couple of months. There is no rush to buy now : there could be some real bargains when significant sales go through.

been a few days since i last posted. just want to say that wallet version 1.8 will be a hardfork coming out more than likely tomorrow. since the blockchain speed varries so much it is hard to say exactly which block but i will plan for one sometime in the morning (with my best time guesses).

1.8 will attempt to fix:
- block chain speed issues (block times are being taken from 45 seconds to 30 seconds.)
- staking issues (it will no longer be 42 days to 84 days. it will be 8 hours to 7 days)
- inflation rate issues (flat inflation rate matching the average economy inflation rate of the last 20 years, aka 2.5% with decay)
- an official meaning for EC in the ECCoin name.

1.8 will also lay the basis for a new protocol i want to introduce into this coin. the concept is similar to the dark send that darkcoin was supposed to have come out with. no, there will not be a masternode thing. when i announce the definition for EC in ECCoin it will be more clear on what the new protocol i am building into the coins code will attempt to do.

other things, i will be getting a new block explorer up soon. i was originally going to attempt to host one myself but i will be moving soon so that plan has canceled.

With the release of 1.8 exchanges that i have listed that currently host a trading platform for the coin (along with 2 more i need to add) will be notified and asked to update their code. and i will post statuses to each exchange when i hear back from them.

NOTE*** i say 1.8 will attempt to fix, i say attempt because the POS system relies on people leaving thier wallets open to stake coins instead of miners moving the block chain. the less people that have thier wallet open, the less chance of finding stakeable coins the network has and the slower the blockchain moves. i am adjusting block times and stuff to attempt to get it to cycle through the off wallets faster so the chain will move quicker with less people.

i will update the original post and should be back here about 24 hours from now with an update on wallet and exchange progress

Inflation rate, long term presumably. The original concept for PoS was 30% in the first year with a taper. IMO ECC will be more successful with a higher rate in year 1 (I suggest 100-150% PoS). That will give incentive for new buyers. I have expounded this issue before.

1368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AnimeCoin [アニメコイン] ANI on: August 14, 2014, 09:00:36 AM
I need a really dumbed down explanation of all this, because I don't quite get it. Is it basically saying that you are fragmenting your wallet address with each transaction or am I just being silly now?

Actually, yes, in most cases.

It starts with an explanation of how all coins are created and sent.

On the blockchain, coins begin life as a 'block'. This is created in mining, and in say the case of Bitcoin, it is 25 coins. This is created in the Miners address.
When a transaction is made, a portion of coins sent from that single address (in say, a wallet) can only be transacted as the whole block, and 'change' is sent to another address.
Example: 25 coins (block) in a wallet, sending of 10 coins to another wallet : 25 coins are sent to the receiving address , and 15 coins 'change' are sent back. This can be to a new address, or the same (sending) address, depending on the wallet function..

This process continues with every transaction, thus blocks of coins are split down into smaller 'packets' of data. Recombining can also occur when sending a larger transaction. The default wallet function varies in each coin, but often involves creating a new address for 'change', and existing addresses can be reused, or not according to preference.

Thus the coins in a wallet (even within the same addresses) exist in smaller 'packets' of data. It is the quantity of data in those packets that dictate the 'size' of any transaction. Where a large number of smaller packets are required to be sent the transaction is 'large'.

'Coin control' is a wallet function in which you can see details of all 'packets' of coins, and select discrete packets for sending. These can be sent back to the same address as well, thus recombining the fragments as needed.

1372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | cPoW | PC mining | Stability | Hashcows - QRK Payouts on: August 11, 2014, 08:08:35 PM
companion coin, superblocks... quarkfx proposal of proof of burn or something like that.

Many conflicting solutions proposed for a problem that I resist to even accept is real.

There is no problem: quark is just in a phase of low liquidity, like all altcoins.

That's just the nature of the quark economy (which at the moment mainly exists on exchanges between traders instead of real world merchants)

Yes we need to change that. But not by manipulating the coin- or coinsupply itself.

POB and qrk only IPO are not conflicting ideas.

I agree with you we need more real work merchants, however all coins are aiming for this so why should they choose qrk?

We need developers, project managers, marketing, yes they need funding or incentives. Other coins have the funding to provide the incentive, qrk does not.

That is the nub of the matter.

I have been a QRK holder for over 1 year (nearly the very beginning). It has excellent functionality, the specific hash stumbled upon a great leap forward at the time. However, I am a general investor in altcoins, and have been an early adopter in 80 coins. There is plenty of choice, and constant improvements in the new coins. I intend to keep a holding of every coin that I ever invest in, either win or bust.(and have so far done so, with few coins succeeding, but an overall decent profit)

The key for any coin is the strength of the ongoing development team, which has to respond to changes and new ideas. Also the size of the adoptive community which follows the development.

There are many coins which now have that strength, and even they will struggle in the evolutionary battle. I would not write QRK off, but have to say that the current price simply reflects it's prospects more fairly now.
1373  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 11, 2014, 03:32:31 PM
It got really quiet in this thread. Did I say something sufficiently offensive, shocking, or motivational?  Embarrassed

Here's a genuine Altcon Observation to discuss:

XCN successfully moved to pruned mode, and its price spiked up ~27% from the deep support at 0.00001375.

XCN cracks two hard nuts at once.  Mini-blockchain is ultimate prunability (so a full node may run on your phone).  And withdrawal limits on the account tree enable non-malleable zero-confirmation transactions.

Like E=MC^2, scarcely two dozen people in the world grasp the magnitude of this technology's implications.   Cool

The shilling must end. This is worse than the HashFast thread, where you enticed people into losing millions of dollars. Tongue

Perhaps we should refute those claims specifically. The posters here may interested to hear why XCN is not a major advance and a novel solution (I realise it cannot be , because otherwise there would be more buying interest in the XCN market) to blockchain memory and bloat issues.

There must be a number of other alts addressing those issues more successfully (without the shill peddlers)

That's interesting. I'll send a message to Testz and see if he can come up with a solution for you guys. Keep me posted.

AnimeCoin fans.

Trying to send Animecoins..
Getting error: trans-action too large; it's only 25000?
Why is there such a limitation.?
thanks

This seems to be a problem a lot of coins suffer. Here is a explanation:
http://www.frozentalk.org/showthread.php?tid=58

Probably you mine at pool and in the wallet you have a lot of small transactions (100-50 ANI), in this case when you trying to send relatively big amount (like 25000) it's created lot of transaction to combine inputs which bigger than size limit. To solve this problem, you can create new wallet (or you can use exchange address) and send all funds from old wallet to new address by 2500-10000 transactions.
If you send 10000 and get this error, try send 5000, if you get this error again, send by 2500, etc.

Good advice.

A lot of people don't realise that 'Transaction Size' is not proportional to the number of coins, but rather to the space (memory) used.

Wallet coin control is a useful feature, and not just for Proof of Stake coins.
1375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 11, 2014, 12:04:30 AM
Better check these off your list.

Coinex
Coinmarket io

Wink

Yes...Dead ones. I think actually, Coinex turned into a scam ? I traded on it but never got any of my withdrawals.

I would divide exchanges into categories:

Still running well
Still running but poor function
Started with good intent, but failed for external reasons/hack etc..
Seemed OK initially but turned into a scam/ owners ran off.
Planned Scam from the outset.

1376  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 10, 2014, 11:05:52 PM
Is anyone willing to sell me a small amount of monero? Maybe like 20-ish?

Why not use an exchange?
Because I'm only registered to 1 for altcoins and 1 for Bitcoin.
Registering then transferring the BTC there, buying monero transferring it back is just too much work wasted for a small amount.

You have to work at it to learn, and to get anything out.Try some new exchanges: you will discover useful information.

I started on altcoins 18 months ago, worked at it,and made nothing for a while. Now it is different.

By now, I am now registered on 26 exchanges, and own 75 different coins.

That is alot of exchanges. You should start a thread and list and rate them.. I didn't even know there was that many still operational. Are you including the scammer ones in that list?

Just checked and:

23 (nearly all still going)

Allcoin
Allcrypt
Alt2Bit
Atomic Trade
BitStamp
BTCe
Bter
Coinedup
Coinex
Coinmarket io

CoinsE
Comkort
Cryptonit

Cryptsy
Ecoiner
Europex
Justcoin

MCXnow
Mintpal
Poloniex
Swaphole
Swisscex
Vircurex

Plus 5 definitely defunct

MTGox (failed)
BTC Central (hacked and failed)
Openex (closed)
IndieMarket  (failed)
Sharex (turned out a scam)
Cryptorush (failed)

I traded on all those....there were a couple of other scam ones I can't recall (sent BTC and lost it) because I deleted all records.

So 30 in all.

1377  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero (XMR) Speculation thread on: August 10, 2014, 06:15:43 PM
Well I am not sure about all these numbers. Is it possible rpietila got lucky with Bitcoin investing and now believes in TA? Bitcoin made many people rich, many people that never made such elaborate calculations.

I have invested in Monero because it's going to be one of only a few relevant coins and in the next year this will become more and more evident. As I have always said, our competitors are Ethereum and Bitcoin, not clone coins and litecoins.

I am disappointed that the market currently places low value on Monero, but the markets are illogical.

Yes, quite right. Markets are illogical because they are primarily driven by (weight of money) short-term profiteers.  Price can appear to be moving in apposition to development and utility.

Some good projects/technology/businesses can be killed by speculator activity and sentiment. Most speculators (even in good enterprises) lose money in the long term, overall : that is what funds all development eg the purpose of the stock market etc..

Monero has a good positioning, team and niche. That gives a likelihood but not a guarantee of success.
1378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [VIA] ★ Viacoin ★ ~ the future of digital currency ~ ★ on: August 10, 2014, 06:05:41 PM
Viacoin needs a better paperwallet: just a little recompile really. The current one has a lengthy process of randomisation before opening, and is only opening client side (offline) using the 'index.html'.

The length entropy gathering will never go away - that's for safety. The wallet *does* work offline. Rightclick and save to desktop to try. http://viacoin.github.io/address-generator/

Thanks...The version I had saved did not work offline, but this one does.

The entropy gathering is just something that was longer than other comparable paperwallets.

Stellar is pretty junky... and lame, but why not grab some.

yesterday the price on the exchange was up to 0.0004 BTC.
The 6k free stellar could have been sold for 2.4BTC!!!
Shocked

probably just a peak, it's impossible to sell at that price

Yes, freak price only.

The trading of this one is very dissimilar to a speculated currency, so there will frequently be outlying price points .
