2461  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: February 03, 2015, 07:53:32 PM
Anyone knows if the last two firmwares are faulty/buggy? Why would they fail to hash to 200+ GHs (overclocked)? Is there a way to make the latest firmware work? I noticed, while I had it that the GUI was faster, not that I really miss a lot though.

The last few revisions were attempting to support one version of S3 PCBs better, which unfortunately may do weird things on earlier S3s. There is no particular reason if you feel you're stable on any firmware after 12/19.

Also, I'd like to try multipool mining with GHash but the "-scrypt -o stratum+tcp://multi.ghash.io:3333" entry in the GUI does not work. Is SHA256 and SCRYPT at the same time possible in the S3? Any opinions or experiences with this? Should I not bother?

From your perspective no. From a network perspective, yada yada decentralisaiton yada yada. Some will argue that large pools are not good for the economy, but regardless of who it is, there will always be a biggest pool.

Excuse my ignorance. I'm totally new to this!   Roll Eyes
(threat: more questions coming in the near future... Smiley)

No problem, you're questions are valid and better than most newbies.

Request denied. Your points are either illogical, false, or based on assumptions.

I don't see it mentioned elsewhere or in your other posts - why are you using that account?
2463  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Philipma1957's attempt to rate current Manufacturers of Asic . Results in. on: February 03, 2015, 07:13:05 PM
For example if I decide to review the  avalon 4.1 I will need to spend  about 1.6 coins( a discounted item)  minimum for a piece of gear I don't need.

I would do this basically just to determine 3 things how loud is it on eco mode ?
what is the real power use on eco mode ?
what does it take to set it up ?

Right now no one has shown clear easy photos or reviews of this on our site. To be fair there are 2 reviews on from dogie and one from valkir. Neither review answers those questions in an acceptable manner  so  why should do it when I  got  a shit load of grief for running this thread?

A user gave you eco mode results power consumption, it is comparatively silent at normal clocks anyway [1600rpm]. My guide shows exactly the setup steps, that's the point of it. I have 6K photos.

hello

i was buy a second hand s3.i did something work with the network settings.(i dont write the broadcast address).thats why icant see login page on gui or cant connect via ssh.butt miner still hashing.i want to reset it but i cant  (maybe for the latest firmware).
what can i do now? how can i reset it? or is there a way to open the login page

thanks for the help

This is why its very important to flash to 12/19 or later. Can you ping the unit or find what IP it is at?
2465  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 03, 2015, 07:01:08 PM
yea right dogie you still did not explain how to do it because you really don't know.
He heard a rumour ..... and unless he heard it before you, then it'll void your warranty. BE VERY SCARED! Shocked

Agreed he works for BITMAIN maybe this is there way of making more money. If they tell dogie then dogie tells everyone else then they will see a lot of s5 controller boards lol.

I answer 10 of your questions via PM, yet you're still aggressive towards me on here. You PM me a question over lunch, and after 40 minutes you PM me again flaming me for not answering it already. So no, I will not answer your question.
2466  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 03, 2015, 06:57:11 PM
Any place where I can by 1 or 2 of these units intead of MOQ 20 as per BitMain's website?

I still have not seen an answer as to what happened to the five pack of these.

I would be interested in a 5 pack to play around with...

You could set up a regional group buy for packs of 5 if you're not interested in buying from resellers.
2467  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 03, 2015, 06:55:11 PM
I still don't understand why you swap one from the front to the back though Smiley

Its fluid dynamics, the rear fans do most of the work overcoming the static pressure. You wouldn't see much difference to temps if you turned both front fans off, but you certainly would if you turned both rear fans off.
2468  Economy / Auctions / Re: Pools in Dogie's Comprehensive Guides [Feb'15] on: February 03, 2015, 05:33:03 PM
Why has the bidding started at 1btc suddenly? last time was .2?
This is the auction for the pools to be listed in Dogie's guides. The other auctions are for advertisements in his guides.

Since people will often setup their miners based on his guides there is real value in bidding on a particular pool having them being listed as a lot of hashpower (and pool fees) are likely going to be sent to such pools as a result

Exactly. The point of this auction isn't to generate revenue, but to give pool operators the opportunity to promote their pools, so it can't be claimed that I am favouring some pools and blocking some out.
2469  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 03, 2015, 05:00:02 PM
What do you think the usage of Bitmain-cgminer will improve ?
Better hashrate ? Improved stability ?

Its a different development path, neither is necessarily an improvement over the other.

AMU0: invalid nonce - HW error. What does this mean Huh

After about half an hour, hashrate is declining to 50

Both of these could be PSU related.
2470  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New miners king? RPi 2 on: February 02, 2015, 02:12:46 PM

I was reading it on TechCrunch - http://techcrunch.com/2015/02/02/raspberry-pi-2/

I wonder how can it help in Bitcoin mining anyway ? Am I missing something ?

Pis are great for smaller units but they can be maxed out on larger units with many more chips. And by maxed out I mean have a narrower working difficulty range.

That would be a great idea.

Maybe Bitmain should have a manual or list of things that would state what actions would void the warranty.
Changing fans with less than x CFM.
If changing or modifity the firmware.
if OCing the device.

i know these units can OC well, but some users/owners dont factor in the effects of OCing.

In the end we will know what will/might/will not be covered under warranty.

Consider ANY hardware mod (unless directed to do so by Bitmain employee / me), ANY unofficial software / software mods and ANY overclocking to void the warranty.

Then, is this considered official?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=796839.msg10333642#msg10333642

I'm not sure if you're suggesting that that code is in the released firmware, or just on github.

It's in the release... for the S4 at least, coz setting --bitmain-homemode does slow the fan down.

I can't set a precedence on that so still assume it will invalidate the warranty.

It would probably be best if you kept your account safe (along with your private keys). 2FA is difficult to implement in SMF (according to theymos) and it would not do much anyway as many people would not use it.

I'd say any account worth stealing would likely use 2fa.

2474  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New miners king? RPi 2 on: February 02, 2015, 12:06:15 PM
One of the downfalls with multiple models of Pi is they lose their 'one hardware one software' advantage. Adoption of the B+ has been slow as people realised that they couldn't have unified firmware over the models. The same will happen here.
2475  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 02, 2015, 11:53:46 AM
So it seems Bitmain has been quietly listening to what is being said here and making changes but not announcing. I wonder why...

Edit: If only they make the options available in the GUI.. that would be really nice.

If its in the code then it will be eventually. If they're happy with the testing results then there'll probably be pretty quick firmware revisions.

As its a custom firmware, there is always a chance it can brick and then you'll have to send your controller in to be reflashed.

It is very "convenient" for final consumers. Why don't Bitmain issue a technique of reflashing the controller at home in case of any failures?

I forgot, you already can on S5s. The SD card slot IS active with special images, and when an SD card image is used, it replaces the flash firmware. I haven't personally tried it and haven't needed to walk anyone else through it, but I've been told it works.
2478  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 02, 2015, 11:47:51 AM
Hi to all,

I am new to this.

Have a U3 running directly to notebook, running - more or less - stable at 785@225.
Avg is ~56

Not really satisfying. Every 4 or 5 days it needs a hard reset. It really helps in this case if you reinstall zadig drivers.
Some times i think, most of the problems the U3 has is due to the usb drivers, but cannot proof that.

I am using cgminer 4.9.0 an a win7/32 bit notebook.

One more question: i always used Zadig and choosed the winsub driver.

Is choosing the libusb-win32 probably better ?
Someone tried this ?

You need to Zadig for it to work. You may get long term stability on a powered USB hub.

You do know that the new forum comes out pretty soon, right? It will contain everything you listed, except maybe Newbie jail.

Information about the new forum can be found in their designated sub-forum and more basic information can be found in the "Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ"-thread, which also tells you when it's supposed to be released. It's a sticky in Meta, so if someone really had a question about this, they would have read the sticky first and then posted something if it's not answered by the sticky.

...
Q: So when is the new forum software coming?
A: Well, according to theymos, some time after February 2015.
...
Source: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ.

Soon has been said for the past 6 months. I seriously won't be surprised if (when) the new forum doesn't come out in early 2015 (as was said to be the release date). When it comes out, I can only imagine all the new problems that will come with it (I seriously hope not but disappointment after disappointment after delay after downtime leads to a cynical way of thinking.)

I heard it was very soon for the last year. I would have thought someone would have given me a poke to test guide formatting if it was ready by now.
2480  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: February 02, 2015, 10:10:53 AM
My guess is copper.  They have always been very careful to say to use coolant not water.  That and it looks a copper "PD360" on their site we got: http://www.syscooling.com/products/Radiators/54.html .   The two aluminum radiator's they show selling are much smaller then the one with kit.

I could be wrong if they used a specialty one for miners, but I'm highly guessing its their standard.

Yes, you have to assume its copper or there are copper components. In several points in the listings (all changed by now) there has been a mention of copper on both the radiator and the fittings [internal coating]. You can see within the chamber of the radiator that there is definitely some form of dark orange coating, which may be brass or copper. So tldr, be safe and assume there is copper and aluminium within the same loop.

Any luck finding out what the radiator is made out of?

See below. Suggesting its all aluminium, so the coatings we see must be brass [which is fine].

The radiator SC-BC1 watercooling kits uses is aluminum.PD360 radator is copper, only PD series radiator is copper.
