341  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Whole Concept of Bitcoin is Failing! on: December 20, 2023, 11:00:40 PM
The fees are becoming so worrisome and not making sense anymore with this crazy fees, as it is gradually shifting from what it used to be before, the cheap transactions fees we used to have back days, and I wonder what would be the transaction fees and the kind of network congestion we would experience going further as we haven't even hit the main bull market where we would likely have Bitcoin trading around $100k+ — $250k+ price per Bitcoin. This issue needs to be fixed with urgent attention, else the average Joe wouldn't be able to get their hands on Bitcoin because of its high fees when they think about how much they would spend on fees to get a small amount of BTC and seem it's where we are heading to and if care is not taken.
I believe this is not the first time that we experienced a congested market and see the transaction fees crazily surging its price. So the best solution I think is learn to minimize your transactions while transaction fees is not cheap. You can do it bimonthly or monthly to save some fees. That way, you will not be much affected with how spike in fees are currently happening these days.

However, I'm still confident to say that bitcoin concept has not changed at all. It's still highly volatile and profitable. Only the transaction fees are not right these days but eventually it will be back to normal as soon as the issue is fixed.

342  Other / Off-topic / Re: Eliminate fear and learn new things. on: December 20, 2023, 05:20:31 PM
My curiosity is that, why do we fear when we re introduced to new things?

This kind of fear is the type that occurs at first appearance we make in doing something new, this same kind of fear happened to some new members of bitcointalk because they don't know where to started from and how they could know virtually everything about bitcoin necessary for them to know, but when we are determined to made a conquer on our fear, we will not be a victim of being intimidated by anything new or strange to us, instead we will pick up the challenge to know it.
There's no other remedy to combat the fear but to accept the challenge wholeheartedly. Once you go out from your comfort zone and face your new challenges, your own fears will start to vanish slowly and replace it with high motivation and confidence. This is already proven by those who succeeded who started from the scratch, as they never let their fear manipulate them but dare to conquer and beat them.

Same thing when applied to a newbie in bitcointalk. If you don't start learning and gaining knowledge, you will continue to be your old self who is less knowledgeable and less experience in the market, because you chose your fears to control your own self when you should be doing it the opposite way.
343  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: December 20, 2023, 01:05:59 PM

Nevertheless, I will still be for the second game hoping I could recover my first game loss.

Magnolia -13.5 @1.75 vs DYIP

We are on the same boat here, the only difference was I go for higher odds with -14.5.

So far, I can say that the decision was right because Magnolia is currently leading by 12 points already in the first quarter.  I know there's still more quarters to be played but its always fun to witness our team that are having a comfortable lead early.

This is a bounce back game, I'm sure they won't give this away.

It's looking safe now, 57-38 is the halftime score. That's a 19 point lead by Magnolia, if they will take care of that lead even if DYIP would have a big run, the spread you guys bet on will give an easy win.

That's why I was too earger in taking a higher spread for a higher odds. Now, I'm kinda regretting, I should have taken higher than what I took for an odds at least 2.00. So now, another 7-0 run, I think this night belongs to the Magnolia backers.

Good luck to both of you, I hope this isn't like the games before that a winning team tried to relax in the 2nd half and just allow the heavy underdog to cover the handicap.

Thanks, appreciate it.. and don't worry if DYIP will have a run as it's not new to us gamblers, but hopefully not tonigh.

Keep holding @bisdak40, we got this!

345  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I earn merit? on: December 19, 2023, 08:59:50 PM
Hello, new bitcointalk user, been around on this site for around a year or so, just never decided to create an account. I’ve seen people with tons of merit! But yet I have not a single clue on how to gain any, whilst people have thousands! Pretty much a newbie when it comes to posting Tongue. But any help works, thank y’all!
As a newbie, I should say that one should not focus on earning merits in the first place. What you should do more is to gain unlimited ideas while exploring the forum so you can be knowledgeable just like those people who consistently gain merits because of their wide knowledge in different topics. If your goal is to earn tons of merits just like them, then be like them. Learn a lot and experience a lot so you can have something valuable to share in the forum that will make other members to benefit from your varied posts.

Earning merits is not the goal why we engage in the forum, but it's to establish our concrete knowledge and develop our skills through wide opportunities that this forum may provide for us.
346  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Risk management and responsible gaming on: December 19, 2023, 03:02:27 PM
In my opinion almost all steps that states take to "protect" gamblers have no real benefit. If they wanted to really help people with gambling addiction, they could open more free rehabilitation centers, advertise them on central television, launch information campaigns that would explain the negative consequences of mindless gambling. All this costs money, which will have to be allocated from the budget, so they simply do not make real steps, but only create the appearance of hard work.

It doesn't look good if they will open a rehabilitation centers of addicted gamblers as it will only imply that addiction has already become rampant.

Gambling is controllable by the government, since they regulated it, they have the right to ban it, or consider it as illegal. However, seeing the money that flows to the funding of the government, they can't make that kind of decision to stop, so it's really unto us now, either we become responsible, or be on the other side and experience the effect of addiction, after all the government doesn't care about us since gambling is not a necessity.
347  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Andre August - December 15th in Florida on: December 18, 2023, 10:54:32 AM
Jake Paul made light work of this fight, easy KO in the 1st round.

He’s targeting a World Title according to Sky Sports - https://www.skysports.com/amp/boxing/news/12040/13031495/jake-paul-sets-sights-on-world-title-after-first-round-knockout-victory-over-andre-august-in-florida

I can only wish him good luck. They guy wants to trick the system, and began his path to world title without amateur career. Instead he has chosen to fight professional and build rating. So far he is doing good. People here dont understand, that to be able to fight champions, first they must go through tens and tens of scalps. Where they see bumps, punching bags, retired opponents, I see Jake is earning money and building his path up. https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/912383 so far he is very far from the top. The real deal gonna start when he will start facing someone from top 100. Right now he is having an amateur career but fights against professionals.

He is not really into professional sports or wants to become a champion. Jake Paul is just being smart, using his influence in social media to match with his interest in boxing, and boom! easy money.

As per my research, here's what he made already in boxing, but I think it's probably under reported.

Quote
Jake Paul career earnings
Per SportsZion, Paul took home $1.2 million for his fight against Nate Robinson, and, per MMA Junkie, $2 million in his first fight against Tyron Woodley in 2021. Per Total Sportal, Paul made $1.5 million against MMA legend Anderson Silva.

Via Sports Zion, Paul made roughly $3.2 million for the Tommy Fury bout and that was before he received a 65% share of the PPV upside. The YouTuber claimed he made $30 million from that bout alone.

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/boxing/news/jake-paul-net-worth-purse-history-career-earnings-youtube-boxing/htcxfgjhd7mmshflxcjguvlx

He is still on his prime, he's good in selecting his opponents to improve his ranking, most likely that millions he already earned will significantly increase overtime.
348  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The shorter the time you spend the better on: December 18, 2023, 03:03:51 AM
I agree with limiting our money to be used for gambling, of course once we get used to it it will be a good habit for a gambler or player in a casino. Once you run out of money in the games, there is nothing you can do but stop and come back another day to make up for the money you have again.

That's actually what I'm doing and I'm used to it, with that kind of habit it's impossible to lead to addiction eventually. because you control the money you will lose and you also implement the discipline and you become one of the responsible gamblers when your habit becomes like this.
If you're still playing daily, wouldn't it be still a causing you to become addicted even if you limit your gambling habit to a minimum daily? Sure limiting might help but the consistency would be a factor to becoming an addict right? Regards to shortening your time playing, would that be enough? Because whenever I play, I make sure that I'm getting the most out of my games and I cancel all my plans that day so there's no worry for time so I either lose the funds or I get bored.

Only him would know if he is already addicted in gambling. Playing daily IMO has no problem with me especially if it doesn't bother my job, you know, we all wants to have fun and gambling is really a fun activity as long as you are in control all the time. However, I think no one really gambles on a daily basis, if we take a break on our job which is our priority, then for sure break also exist in gambling.

The thing bored could have different meaning to me.

You're bored because you aren't doing any, and you get bored because you are doing the same thing over and over again.
349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice for my fellow Newbie on: December 16, 2023, 07:41:18 PM
While it's the right thing to focus on learning acquisition and keep learning every single day, the hunger for quick merits has also become a necessity for newbies. Probably because they want to gain immediate profits and consistent income, just like those who have been making a good amount in the forum. And for that, I come to understand them but still, we should not jump into getting merits but focus first on learning the basics in the forum.
350  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Know when to stop on: December 16, 2023, 05:58:55 PM
Just like in life, we also need to take a break from trading when we think it's not healthy anymore. Once it's not working already according to our plan, we need to think a lot of times if we'll still continue trading or just shift into another career that suits us better. While others have the desire to consistently trade until success is achieved, some just think leaving trading for good is a wiser idea. Not only because it's not healthy and profitable anymore, but also because trading has already become a calvary on your part.

Knowing when to stop from trading is not an act of being fearful, but rather it's an act of being responsible on your choice when you think it's not going to work anymore.
351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Jake Paul vs Andre August - December 15th in Florida on: December 16, 2023, 02:15:06 PM

Maybe it's time for a rematch against Fury was Paul that time when he lose via SD was a slight underdog, maybe if he could beat Fury in a rematch, we can tell that he really has improve a lot as a boxer.

I guess Fury would love for a rematch as he knows how much money the fight will bring to them. However, can Jake Paul agree with that considering he's been winning recently with easy fights. After the Tommy Fury Split decision loss, he had 2 straight wins (including the recent fight), first was UD and 2nd was KO, fans should be hyped with how Jake Paul perform, so it'll gain more attention if Paul would choose a fighter that has a good boxing skills like Fury if the latter can't be possible to be his opponent.

Yes, I think that will be the goal of Jake Paul, to rematch Tommy Fury as he lost that fight. And yeah, for sure it's going to produce good money again just like their first fight. I would just imagine the promotion though, specially with John Fury again, hyping his son's fight and obviously Tommy mouth as well running.

So I guess this is the fans wanted for Jake Paul.

As for this fight, we all now what's the result are, it's that we didn't expect that this is going to be easy for Jake.

And most especially if the fight will end up Jake Paul being the winner. For sure this will be an automatic trilogy, and again, another huge money will be coming. I think they should work on this as both has been active after their fought, so they are on their prime and the fans would really appreciate if they'll bring a fight that people would not think it's another cherry picking strategy by a fighter.

The first one was close, it was a split decision, so I think Jake Paul will be more motivated and probably more confident than the last time they met.

Not much pressure from Jake Paul now since he's not undefeated anymore, so I like to bet on him if that fight will be materialize.
352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best piece of advice to anyone going into bitcoin on: December 16, 2023, 12:55:54 PM
Buy a little bit of bitcoin every week don't care if it's a $1, $5, $10, $100, figure out what you can afford every week and buy it, get rid of unnecessary expenses or whatever you can think of getting rid of and spend it on bitcoin
5 to 10 years if you buy some every week you will be a multi millionaire
That still falls on DCA. That would be the best strategy so far that mostly works for everyone. While some can afford all in investing that indicates higher risk but majority still follow doing DCA as the risk to lose can be likely controlled.

You can chose if you want weekly, bi monthly or monthly, that depends on how often you make an income. As long as you do it consistently, you can easily maximize your investment portfolio and make you instant multi millionaire after long, indefinite years of hodling.
353  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who says you can't be a millionaire in sports betting? on: December 16, 2023, 09:07:49 AM
When you go to Twitter and search for bet slips, you will see bet slips  like this with exactly the same story. This would generate a lot of engagements but I begin to suspect once that type of winnings is consistent. No gambler have such impressive wins every time. It is either he will bank rolled by the bookies to promote them and bring more customers or he wants to people to sign up for his paid betting telegram signal group.

I don't believe win slips I see on social media, if the wins are big numbers my doubt increases. Most individuals that win from betting love to stay private so they can enjoy their money and not be disturbed by family members and close relatives for their share of the money won. Also for security they won't come out of the open to announce their victory therefore all those bet slips we see on social media are always altered to attracting gamblers.
Most of them just trying to influence gamblers to sign up under their referral program. Perhaps there are few that show up their winning bet slips but not on a consistent manner, that means they are just happy and just want to share their success to their friends. However, these people that are consistently showing their winning, we should be doubtful with them as we already know what they are after of, they want to rake money from you by a convincing you to gamble, and of course since you are the one who would experience, you'll know if it's really possible to make money or not.

You can become a millionaire from sport betting but it doesn't happen very often, many gamblers are losing more than they're winning and that's the reason behind the sportsbooks still in business. If everyone were winning millions regularly, they'll go out of business as they won't have the money to payout the victories. When gambling the aim should be to entertain yourself and not be at a lost, the millions aren't necessary always a target but if it happens that's your luck.

At least you believe that it's possible. Other bettors doesn't and yet they are still gambling a huge amount of money. Some maybe just doing it for fun, but eventually they'll get bored with small bets and would think of increasing it, so it's better to be realistic or if you believe you can make money, don't doubt so you'll be able to make a strategy for you betting journey.
354  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 16, 2023, 06:58:05 AM
Brunson has a history night as his team beat the Suns on their home court.

Brunson sets records from deep, drops career-high 50 in Knicks' win

He's not missing 3 point shots, he was 9-9 beyond the arc and the major reason why the Knicks were able to route the Suns. If he gets going like this, I believe the knicks will be a legit team in the playoffs, I mean, he should shoot more as his shot selection are very accurate.

Brunson really showed up well on a team that he has been the star player, however, it would still be fine if he wasn't traded by the Mavs as I think he is a better team player than Irving, and more healthy as well. On that game, I was thinking that the Suns would win and would cover the spread since once again the big 3 were playing, but unfortunately, Bradley Beal was injured with a possible sprained ankle, so the Suns would have to rely with Durant and Booker once again.

___

Good job Spurs, finally the losing streak is over!

I'm new here. What's all about this merit count? How is it earned? I'm assuming it's linked to the quality/usefulness of your posts/replies? Their originality maybe? What are usually the subjects you'd get the more merit for posting about?
Don't be too obsessed with earning merits. You will get there once you have established already your knowledge about bitcoin and on the forum as well. For now, just enjoy your stay in the forum and post on the topics that interest you, and of course on the topics that you are widely knowledgeable about. If other members will find your post meaningful and useful, you will earn merits gradually.

I suggest you visit more on bitcoin discussion. You will learn a lot there as long as you also open your mind to different insights and ideas. Filter those posts that you don't like and focus on the posts that creates an impact to you, that way you will have gained limitless ideas.
356  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers trickily claims they wins the bet while they never did. on: December 15, 2023, 12:05:13 PM
Don't be deceived, not every gamblers who actually claims that they won really won.
Some falsefully speculates that they won just because they want to pave an ease to those who has been advising them to quit or limits gambling simply because the gambler has been unlucky to win instead he keep betting over and over without a good bankroll management in their gambling carriers.
They basically do this because they feels disturbed and inconveniences of the people's opinions and advices towards the gamblers unprofitable gambling experiences

I know some people who hve that kind of attitude, these are the people that doesn't know how to accept their losses, or they want to be right all the time. Other people are those influencers who promotes a gambling site using demo money that they gamble and claim they won, it's a marketing side of gambling and we should all be aware of that.

What we can only do to minimize the risk in gambling is to be real or to be true with our experience, we don't need to lie just to impress people as it's normal that we lose since the winning percentage of a gambler in the long run is probably just 1%, so don't convince people that we are exceptional when we are not.
357  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Risking 1% in Gambling on: December 15, 2023, 11:23:02 AM
There should be no worries or imagine how the poor people can do this, because even the poor or an average person is capable of following this strategy or simply set an individual limit which is not that high amount to avoid losing a lot of money than expected. Aside from that, this strategy doesn't need to be followed by everyone, it's just another option. As long as an individual gambler can control his spending in gambling, whatever the strategy is the better.

This strategy is more to be safe in gambling. As what everyone sees, gambling is a high risk type of entertainment, because there's a possbility that we lose control and we would spend more than we can afford to lose. This "do not spend what we can afford to lose" principle doesn't state how many percentage we should only risk, however, if that's 1% of your income, that's very safe, the only risk here is we won't be able to consistently follow it.
358  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What you need to know about trading on: December 14, 2023, 09:58:05 PM
Most people think life is a bed of roses, is all about sunshine,  enjoyment etc not knowing that there's always a  tough time and the ability of one to overcome this time makes him great.  Tough time is the point through which poor and successful people emerges depending on the choices and decision they take.
Most traders and investors are inpatient they only think of the positive side of it ( making profit) not knowing there will always be a loss someday,  well most of them know but when they make losses they became frustrated and unstable,  some will give up because of that little experience.  Sometimes we make losses and we have bad experience like we offend God but no, we are only been tested.  Some of the spirit of a trader or invest is "I can make it mindset, resilience...
Trading will always be harder if you keep on expecting trades will end up smoothly. Obviously, that is not the nature of trading. One should experienced prior mistakes and losses because that will motivate yourself to grow as a trader and give your best to stay trading in profits. Although trading is not a bed of roses like what everyone says, but once you achieved the peak success in trading, you will always have the reason to live your life like bed of roses.
359  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I start investing in Bitcoin? on: December 14, 2023, 08:58:29 PM
Can someone please guide is it a good practice to start investing in Bitcoin in this upcoming January-2024?
Well, as long as you have spare money to invest in bitcoin for long term, then investing anytime of the year is very welcome. But I should be honest to you that it could be a lot better if you enter the market while bitcoin is cheaper so you can maximize your initial purchase and expect bigger profits when you decide to sell them during bull run.

But if you really want to invest early next year, then that is not really a problem. Just be patient always so you won't be tempted selling when the price drops so badly and end up seeing you in losses.
360  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bankroll! on: December 14, 2023, 01:21:23 PM

Of course no. Never change bankroll if isn't affordable, this is a big mistake and can lead to several issues Sad

Many gamblers makes this kind of mistake, it's the bankroll that gave them a problem as they don't know how to manage it.

Here's the scenario. In case you have $1000 total bankroll gambling for one day, scenarios are.

1- You do flat betting with $100 per wager and you had a 10 losing streak.

2- You lose all your bets, you start with $100, then $300, and lastly $600...

Which of the two experience is more painful? I'll choose the number 2...the reason, lack of discipline in bankroll management.

I agree, the number 2 scenario is more painful to take because you shortened your games because you were chasing your losses. Most of us who were in that situation in the past probably have regretted our careless decision, if it wasn't part of the game plan, then it's certainly due to our lack of control which as we have seen would likely end up us regretting.

But how many times we really make the same mistakes before we learn?

I also ask this because personally I didn't make that kind of mistake once, maybe more before I finally learn to control myself and avoided that.
