Hey there you are in the wrong section.

This section is strictly for Bitcoin mining; you need to post in the alt coin section. It is found further down the home screen.

Wish I could help with your problem but your rig is twice the size of mine lol. Good luck

3684  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin Destroying the Planet? on: April 17, 2018, 12:10:35 PM
I think Bitcoin is far from destroying the planet. Unfortunately it is the planets population that is destroying the planet. 30 years ago our society should have been putting a much larger emphasis on renewable energy, but even today there is a huge push against renewable sources. This comes mainly from companies that aren't looking past their current profits.

One nice thing I've noticed about smaller scale miners where I'm from, in our Fall/Winter months can operate energy neutral. I can run my miners in my home and use them as my furnace instead of the electric elements. There are also projects I've come across here in the forum such as OGNASTY's project, as well as other users posts regarding using solar arrays.

These are great examples of the options available to maintain the network in an environmentally conscious manner. I will say I've noticed a shift towards green energy but it is slow going and needs more big money players to get behind the technology to improve efficiency.

I also don't think that renewables are a threat to the current energy status quo, outside of the fact it will affect profits. The current energy system will run itself dry; renewable energy will just allow it to stretch its supply longer and keep it available for the systems that make sense to use it in place of renewables. There can be a happy medium but it will take time, effort and commitment.
3685  Economy / Computer hardware / Canaan 8 series bundle deal 44 Miners on: April 17, 2018, 09:44:42 AM
I was just browsing through the Canaan official page and thought I would post this here for anyone looking to buy 40+ units

https://canaan.io/product/avalon-821-841-bundle-qty-40-shipping-now-100-per-thash/

What it boils down to is:      40 - 821's , 4 - 841's this includes 3 controllers as well.

I am not selling these, you will need to buy them direct from Canaan, but it is below the usual 60 unit minimum. PSU's are not included.
3686  Other / Off-topic / Re: sMerit Post-Review on: April 17, 2018, 08:27:18 AM

Then I shall review those posts that you have not omitted, by your own request! Thank you for keeping up with your post and saving me a couple minutes. I had a read through the entire thread in each of your submissions that were not omitted; and I have decided to give a Merit to the last one. I was strongly considering giving the post 2-merit, but since I am not a merit source I seem to always be low on merit. It is tough out here. I think Merit > sMerit rate might be better at .75, rather than .5, but that's just my take on things. I very well might double back and merit your first post in that same thread. The other submission just reads a bit too conversational for my taste.

Thanks again the feedback is appreciated. I'm slowly narrowing down what you are interested in and what does not float your boat Wink . I like your thoughts on the .75 sMerit, but in the end there are likely far more people out there that would just abuse the system 50% longer... Huh math might be right. Not a problem if you don't circle back to the other submission you are doing a great job spreading the Merit; have you considered applying to become a Merit source?

Side-Note : A lot of people tell me thank-you, but I honestly don't know if they're truly thankful or if they believe that it makes them more likely to receive merit. Maybe people are more polite than I give them credit for.

Can't speak for everyone but I'm being polite.
If behind our anonymity we can't extend the earliest manners we learn in life we deserve no ones notice or assistance.

EDIT: Almost forgot to give a thank you shout out to HCP. The merit is appreciated.

Hey there,

Just a heads up you posted in the wrong section of the forum. This section is for Bitcoin only. Your Gpu mining question belongs in Altcoin mining

Specifically here is a thread with a lot of knowledgeable people, some of whom I remember talking about them. Search through the thread and if you don't see what you need post your question again.

Reported to Mods, they will move this post

EDIT: I also found this thread for the B250
3688  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PCB vs Chip Temps on: April 17, 2018, 04:41:03 AM
I had a hard time figuring out a few things looking at your pictures.

Where is the exhaust going from the AC. Does this go to a completely separate room? outside? I saw a mention about it exhausting with the dryer vent. Not super important just so long as it is taken out of the equation.

You don't have to make your wall more permanent just be sure it is secure and seal up any gaps at the walls or around the machines as best you can. Some corrugated plastic would be perfect for this. you could make the cutouts row by row.

Also is it an insulated tarp you are using? They are pricier but do a great job.

The red flag for me is that you need to increase your exhausting capacity remember that the volume of air increases when it's heated. This means it's not necessarily a 1 to 1 conversion. So you may need to beef up the exhaust side. It's hard to say what the fix is, but it's nice you don't have to pay for electricity so a second AC isn't really a problem.

Also what are your ambient air temperatures and what do you expect them to be in the summer months?
3689  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Shares with highr diff but no blocks on: April 17, 2018, 03:13:43 AM
sgminer RVN has a bug that shows those higher shares, but its just a bug sadly Sad
its a known SGminer bug, and happens to most new algos on sgminer till someone makes an optimized/fixed version Tongue
in fact i think one of the new ones that bug is fixed, check "brians" Sgminer

Glad I read your post, I was tempted to run off and figure out how to solo this coin for a while. I figure one of these times testing out my luck has to work,  Tongue

I've had shares show up in the 200+ range; made me consider a week or 2 of solo activity. Tough for me to figure out if they are legit as my pool hits a ton of blocks in a day and I had to restart everything to make some adjustments.

Does Canaan take BTC? I see their site says "We will give you wiring instructions and a final invoice."

If you are ordering 60 or more ( a pallet) you can order direct from Canaan. They will only take a USD wire transfer. They stopped accepting crypto when they began the process of going public.

Their distributors still accept crypto though, blokforge or cryptouniverse are the go to distributors now. Minerwarez is still official but there were some problems with their last orders for 741s; so I  don't recommend them at the same level as the other 2
3691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Overview of Universal Basic Income Projects on: April 12, 2018, 07:39:24 PM
While stumbling down the rabbit hole a little I found this project https://tse.bitnation.co

Looks like they want to create an entire governing nation without borders. Seems like an interesting future planning project; it reminds me of the off grid commune/commmunities people founded in the late 60s/70s.

This is the initial article that I read where they discuss their UBI.

http://basicincome.org/news/2017/03/bitnation-recent-advances-cryptocurrency-see-basic-income-tested/

In this respect, however, although an equal distribution of wealth is ideal, it still undermines the role of money as an incentive that pushes people to work harder, thus getting more income. Perhaps in a utopian society where the population is infused with the notion of hard work as a measure to maximize human potential and a sense of place in civilization which justifies this effort towards growth, such an implementation would work.

But given a society that is built on capitalist foundations and a craving for stratification, it is better off leaving mankind for to its own interests - a personal pursuit for meaning and purpose fueled by individual definitions of money.

And just to put it out there, an equal society tends to be a boring one. Suppose I'd have mustered enough cash to go on a vacation to a luxurious resort: once I arrive, it's empty. No one at the reception waiting for guests, no janitors keeping the establishment clean and no lifeguards securing the swimming area. Why? They've all saved enough money to go out at the same exact day that I did, earning and saving the same amount a year too. In the world today, this seems to be unreal, but in a society built on equal pay, a tale like this could be a narrative of daily life - a repetitive cycle of working and saving - towards what will always be a dead end job.

Just my two cents Smiley.

I understand where you are coming from, all a UBI is supposed to do is really ensure that regardless of the career path you chose you shouldn't have to chose between eating/hydro/or a roof over your head.

These situations are rampant through all industrialized nations. Many people put in 40 hours + and still can't afford a basic quality of life. Another added benefit to a UBI that has been lost in the last few decades is that it can become easier for a parent to chose to stay home and raise children until they are school aged. This issue in itself has many added benefits to the family unit and specifically the children.

Thanks again OP for creating an interesting topic to discuss

3692  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Overview of Universal Basic Income Projects on: April 12, 2018, 04:50:27 PM

Grantcoin is the same as manna, check out their recent posts on that website Wink I'm personally really passionate about projects like these, because it's something that society will need sooner rather than later.
This could be a great implementation of Basic income at relatively low cost.

Thanks for the comment!

Not a problem, I edited my post as I did a little more reading.

Your right, although I would say this UBI is something that has been needed a long time. I've always been the sort you could consider a bleeding heart; but still live in reality. The first time I really understood the massive amounts of need were when I worked for a call center that handled calls for charities. Don't get me wrong it wasn't volunteer in any way and the company was greasy as far as I was concerned. One thing that made me good at those projects was instead of reading the scripts I looked into the charities so I could actually carry on a conversation with the donors(by the time I was done talking Wink ) The tough part was realizing you couldn't help everyone with the current system.

I hope that governments adopt this; I know some Canadian provinces are talking about UBI and it would be great to get them on board in this manner.

Again thanks for the info I'll be doing a little more research on these and maybe even start spreading the word.
3693  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Overview of Universal Basic Income Projects on: April 12, 2018, 04:21:35 PM
I'm kinda amazed, I can honestly say I never even considered this as an application for blockchain technology. If these projects can show the benefit to their platform, there's a chance more progressive governments might adopt this. Either way in the end someone does have the burden of funding the basic income; but using a blockchain style ledger would greatly reduce the behind the scenes costs and potential errors involved in current social assistance programs.

I'm going to have to do some more reading on each but it's nice to see several developments out there focusing on distribution of wealth and not just decentralization. Thanks for putting this out there I definitely see the benefit to these platforms especially when dealing with less privileged members of society.

EDIT: I just did a quick search and turned up this project as well. Sorry noticed the post up top and realized that Manna was the re branding of this grantcoin.

I cant say for sure but it looks like you have quite a few error codes.

https://github.com/Canaan-Creative/avalon7-docs/wiki/AvalonMiner-error-code

That's the link to Error codes, found in the ECHU and ECMM. The codes are additive.

I think you have the 128, 64, 4, and 1. would show as you (197)

I don't have an 841 so I can't say for sure if these are their codes, I'm also not at home so I can't confirm but your VO (voltage out looks out of wack as well), this could mean something like a bad PMU.

The number 4 code is no fan detected so that might be the issue. You might want to post a link asking for help in this thread.

Haggs the OP recently received some training from Canaan.

Hard to say if it's legit or not.
I would just send Steve@Canaan.io you probably already know he's the head of sales and marketing.

I would have thought if anything you might have received an email from someone else in their sales team, or from a Canadian distributor if one ever appears.

EDIT:
I don't recognize the email address that was CC'd; it might be someone from the sales team or it was added in to provide the appearance of legitimacy.

3696  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Building mining farm in Canada. on: April 11, 2018, 02:00:20 PM
The way things are going you might be able to offer hosting even to 1 or 2 clients who have a medium sized farm of their own.

Best way to proceed is to get all your personal machines up and running. Once you have this set up and planned it's time to see what you have left to offer electrical wise; out to either a partner or as a hosting service.
I've never hosted equipment but another consideration will be making sure you have a solid network set up.

Anyone who does consider sending gear your way will want to see that the site is prepared to handle the miners. This would include providing dust free intake air and appropriate levels of air movement to remove waste heat.

This summer will give you a great indication of what you need to do because those 20 S9's are going to add a lot of extra heat so it will be a good way to learn what you need to plan out moving forward.

In the end sounds like a great place to set up a farm, I was reading about a medium to large sized mine operating there last week. Beautiful country as well came through last summer for the fist time on a family vacation.

3697  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: April 10, 2018, 09:08:51 PM
I remember back in September when we tried to do a group buy with them it fell apart; as a result of their plans to go public.

That's why all the pallets from that point on needed to be handled with a bank wire; the group wanted/needed to pay with BTC.

I never really thought on it after that I'm surprised they ran into so many issues.
3698  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Preventing rust on the Antminer S9 on: April 10, 2018, 03:45:00 AM

Or perhaps a geothermal loop to cool the water before it goes into that "coil".

That's a great idea you could then get away with using a water reservoir and a small circulating pump.

Let us know what you come up with Tim. Good luck with the farm

Been mining on Kano for a few months now and noticed that the reward for a block shows up almost as soon as the block is found but with block (517439) there is no reward showing.  It has 25 confirms.  Anyone else not get paid the reward?  Thank you.

I'm only at 41 TH/S but there should be at least some reward (even though pool has grown).

Kano is doing some manual adjustments and checking, reward should be sent before maturity still

Just wanted to pass along a tip to make sure you type after the "/quote" when you quote a post. I replaced [] with " just to be clear.

This makes it easier to figure out what you are posting and takes your wording out of the original quote
3700  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Preventing rust on the Antminer S9 on: April 10, 2018, 01:02:09 AM

Yep, desiccants are too weak.

Dehumidifiers do heat up the air. Do google it. It heats up the air to remove moisture. Hotter air cannot hold as much moisture as colder air. Thus, moisture is removed when air is heated.

Airflow is usually in the few hundreds per cfm. I think a typhoon is millions of cfm Smiley
A strong dehumidifier can do a few hundreds per cfm at most though. A smaller fan would remove air faster.

You are mistaken on how dehumidification works.

Hot warm air holds more moisture. As the air cools down moisture is released.

If you have been googling dehumidifer for industrial purposes. They pump hot air into a space and then exhaust it to take the moisture out of the plant. I work in a food processing plant and this is done at cleanup so the floor is dry and ready for production in the morning.

All this being said refrigeration or air conditioning dehumidify a space as well. Again by lowering the temperatures. That's why most portable home AC units have a drain on them.

@tim
I've been looking through different options for you because your setup does sound quite large. I don't know what your budget is or anything but I'll pass along ideas I think could work.

Are you opposed to running a cold water line "coil" in some ducting? If you do this at an airflow change in direction with a drain at the base it might knock enough moisture out of the air for you. This is really only a good option if your site has a certain level of water consumption already. Or you are willing to invest in pumps compressors and fans, this is then a refrigeration/ac system
