2721  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Quiet Miners as heaters? on: October 12, 2018, 04:17:30 AM
found this tweet from canaan! (its also a official twitter acc btw)

https://twitter.com/CanaanInc1/status/1050335032089272320

It would be nice to actually see some of these concept ideas (TV) produced and sold. Even if it is just a small batch run of product.

Yes the TV is more novelty than anything, I think someone shot the specs down as being unprofitable. This however is cool it's essentially what I'm doing to be doing with my 741's in my basement next week. This I could keep that in a living room or a bedroom. I know the hashrate isn't there, but a normal space heater is terribly inefficient anyways, and doesn't bring in anything except a bill.
2722  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: GMO miner B2: 7NM mining within reach? on: October 12, 2018, 03:43:24 AM
I'm just checking the threads to see if anyone ordered this miner and knows if the end of October ship date is still on the table?

I'd like to see if they are meeting the first commitment before people start shelling out for their next announcement.
2723  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitfury Tardis (SHA256) 80 TH/s 6300w on: October 12, 2018, 03:00:12 AM
All they are doing is downclocking the boards and adding more. Any of those versions should be able to run at the best power efficiency at the expense of some hash rate.

Looking at it I assumed it was set up with a static fan speed of 100% or something. I couldn't figure out why there was no change in power usage.

So are you figuring that you would be running a different firmware version dependent on how many boards you attached? And that that would be how they downclock the board as they ad more.

That makes me wonder then if they would have a version available that would allow you to run on performance not efficiency (like the 5 board model) for say a colder climate.
2724  Other / Meta / Re: What can we do to stop redundant full quotes? on: October 12, 2018, 02:43:04 AM
When I run into this I do 2 things. I try to educate them, by directing them to a topic I created [Tips] Posting technique

Whether it ever gets read that's a different story, I then usually follow it up with a good old "Report to moderator" asking them to trim the nested quote. I got the idea from the mining section as I noticed some threads were cleaned up nicely by this.

To each there own, I don't blame people for ignoring these posters and their lack of awareness. I'm on here for long enough stretches browsing at times where there is no discussion I want to be a part of atm, so I take a minute or two. I wrote the topic because it drove me crazy watching people quote massive posts several times over.

2725  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - October 2018 on: October 12, 2018, 02:20:42 AM
How about Bitfury stuff?
Yep, Bitfury is legit for sure.

Bitfury has been added. It's tough to find anything on their gear out in the wild but there are some videos out there. A lot of the info available does seem to be in russian, but I have sent a request for information from them regarding the Tardis. Mostly with expected shipdates and what not, this way once it's proven real somewhere it can take the current hardware slot.

So, I guess, GMO product has already been materialized.

I read the same and going back through the discussion threads on the forum, it had an expected shipdate in October. So with them still being a new company having never produced hadware to consumers I'm holding off.

If they keep to their commitments and ship something out at any point they will be placed on the list for sure. Again they have been sent a request for information, we'll see if they get back to me.
2726  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - October 2018 on: October 11, 2018, 11:05:46 PM
You're right Hagss.

Sorry for the confusion, I may just have to stop replying from mobile for some threads.

So in keeping with the theme of having hardware currently out or having been delivered  that is recently competitive, I need to research their panther or B3 snowleopard or b8 I think it was called. If I can't find some hard facts on that miner having been sold, then they only have a spec sheet for unreleased hardware the "tardis".

When I was starting to think about this thread I believe they only had the shipping container build up on their website so they were passed over.

That being said.  I am looking into the tardis for details and if anyone can send something regarding their last miner that was sold, I will update OP accordingly.

I will probably also ad in a metric for units that have a MOQ.

As always I am open to suggestions and input. If someone feels I am leaving out a key piece if information we can discuss adding it.
2727  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - October 2018 on: October 11, 2018, 10:41:13 PM
Yeah I was doing some research on Bitfury last night, but need to do more.  I have a post somewhere a fee months back about someone looking into the snow leopard, and I did read up on the tardis.

Last I checked though they had a MOQ of 100 units. Here's where it becomes opinion and I'll defer to the community.

Is a company that has a MOQ of 100 really competitive? I'm going to keep digging tonight, but if anyone can point me to a distributor or something where anyone can pick them up thag would be great

If not I will add them at the bottom, under a industrial title or something of the sorts.

Still looking into GMO and triple 1 waiting for a product to materialize.

Keep the info coming people I appreciate the assistance in keeping this list up to date.

Edit: MOQ may have changed, if I can find some hard facts that the panther had been delivered out to customers I'll add them with the tardis being speculation. They are tough, as I recall they didn't sell to the global public for many years and have only recently started doing this again.
2728  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ☾ icemining.ca 🇨🇦 ❄ the cool pool on: October 11, 2018, 10:57:19 AM
I don't think I did anything pool specific. I did ad something based on the avermore devs recommendation. Can't remember what it was atm, I'm not near my rig.

I don't think you can adjust the payout threshold, you could always check out their discord and ask.

I do know that you shouldn't be mining to your exchange wallet, you'd be better off downloading the wallet. Or I guess finding a pool that does allow you to change the threshold, not sure if any do.
2729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ☾ icemining.ca 🇨🇦 ❄ the cool pool on: October 11, 2018, 10:44:31 AM
Hey there,

Pretty sure the threshold is 1 RVN.

Yes all you have to do is have the wallet in the command line in your BAT file.

You also use the wallet address to check your miner stats/rewards on the Pool.
2730  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit begging on: October 11, 2018, 09:29:23 AM
I think it would have been a bigger shocker when LoyceV was applying to Bounty's. While simultaneously dropping 20 merits on bounty reports.

That's probably when I'd clue in  Grin .

Should have told him how offended you were at his valuation of your account.
2731  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question about ambient temp with 15 x S9s on: October 11, 2018, 09:12:21 AM
Save yourself the possibly burnt out boards, as they can be finicky as is.

I'm not sure what your overall building set up is. but you're going to have to put a hole in the wall no matter what to run all of them. Here's the kicker maybe 2 so that you can dusct intake air as well (don't forget the filter) for the miners and the existing equipment for the server room.

The plus side to making these modifications is that you probably won't need the AC at all, with the increased constant airflow through the room. Seeing as you like to jump in I would oversize the air exhaust and intake, just in case you want to go bigger.
2732  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit begging on: October 11, 2018, 06:51:29 AM
I replied to that idiot earlier. Had a little fun with it.

My favorite part of your reference post was the skilled use of whiteout. Tres bien of youyou
2733  Other / Meta / Re: Flooding forum by own copy paste post. Mod. please stop him. on: October 11, 2018, 06:19:24 AM
I'm sorry but why create a new thread for this.

Based on the edit it sounds like you hadn't even taken all action before creating this topic. Did you report all of the posts you found, explaining this in each report?

Seems this could have been a post/question asked here, in the Guide to reporting effectively created by Welsh. I tend to get a decent answer/advice there if needed. I'm also pretty sure a few moderators read through it so you might also get some action there.
2734  Other / Meta / Re: WHAT TO DO WITH 1 MERIT ? Why we need this update ? on: October 11, 2018, 05:12:24 AM

I have to wonder if you are just naive and think that the forum itself is selling that merit token/coin ?? I can't remember what it is.

I think you are trying to use

2735  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: October 11, 2018, 03:27:16 AM
Why not? If you think rules have been broken you shouldn't let the "Staff" label stop you.
You're right and it didn't. It was more of a how to proceed, the same as anyone else, or through a PM or something. On a small an extremely small scale it's similar to a "whistleblower" wondering how to report wrongdoing.
In this case there was a moment where I perceived an imbalance of power, so took sometime to think on it made an archive, reported the rest of what I wanted to then went back.

I also archived it in case there was something fishy with the account. I've come accustomed to seeing redundant posts all ranks at the tail end of these threads I report to be locked, this was the first "Staff" member.

Quote
BTW "Staff" means a moderator of another board (Chinese in this case) so they probably won't see your report if you're worried about that. Not that it matters now after you posted this publicly Smiley

It was honestly right after posting here I saw them offering assistance with translating the Chinese board to find account sellers. So this put to ease any other thoughts I was having about the account. I  did feel better at ease putting it in public, not to drag their name through the mud or anything, but just in case. Not that it matters, as a local board mod only has power there if I'm not mistaken.

Overall my thinking was,  I've seen some otherwise seemingly levelheaded individuals loose their shit over trivial matters.

Edit: Just of note all other reports from there, have been handled, except this one. Including a batch of other reports put in afterwards. So it may be that others also think twice regarding moderating a moderator. Not that I care it just sits as unhandled.
2736  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will btc difficulty go sideways for rest of the year? on: October 11, 2018, 02:40:45 AM
I think that doesn't really make sense.

BTC network Diff is adjusted every 2016 blocks  ~ approximately 14 days. This is to maintain an average 10 minute block time. Pretty sure BitCH coin is also doing this... can't say I've followed it much in about a year.

With that being in place it helps prevent someone with a large hash, from coin jumping and manipulating Diff in that fashion. Not that it was designed for that purpose. There are smaller alt coins that can be manipulated in that way, but that's because they don't have a large network Hashrate "protecting" it.

You may just be referring to switching between what is most profitable. That is covered in Phil's explanation previously.
2737  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AvalonMiner 921 released - 20 TH/s @ 1800W on: October 11, 2018, 02:32:01 AM
We never received a single Avalon Miner in blue foil. Just standard Canaan box with 2 foam pieces.

I think they used to ship them out in something like that before mid 2017. All my hardware has shown up the way you describe, but I remember some people wondering about this in the past.

Just received Miner,
short testing shows we can get following at the wall values: (I have to point out that we tested them very shortly ~1-2hours)
voltage -2 = ~1830Watt @20TH/s
voltate 0 = ~2040 @21,1TH/s

more testing to follow asap.

With your tests, what was the ambient temperature?? Since the 8 series we have seen that ambient temperature does play a big factor in their power consumption. That may have contributed to the numbers being higher than people would hope for. As you pointed out the timeframe is short it would be nice to get a 24 hour test done. With the 921 does the voltage offset work; or are you punching that in the command line?

*snip* Get that 30th @ 2000w miner out (which I highly doubt will be those numbers after seeing this one).  At the price point it's basically better to buy 2 841's with power supply than one of these for the same price.. lol

I wouldn't count out the 941, this is generally the model that meets or exceeds specs, but has shown is very temperature dependent.  Also in the long run with that .09 decrease in W/TH over the 841(based on review data) could be the difference between profit and loss. I do still stand by my if you can wait to see what the 941 does then do that.
2738  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will btc difficulty go sideways for rest of the year? on: October 11, 2018, 02:19:17 AM
His scenario is correct if we are looking at October/November, I think.

That was the drastic Diff changes going on with the BitCH network. We would see everyone jump over there for a few days at a time.

It wasn't drastically noticed across the BTC network immediately but it did usually dent it enough to at least stifle massive DIFF jumps or bring about a drop. I won't lie I'm glad to see that the other network is still there and has stabilized to a point where it remains near a 1:1 for which is more profitable to mine. Only because I don't want to see that hashrate added to ours, increasing BTC difficulty with it.
2739  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: October 11, 2018, 02:11:19 AM
I have a weird situation here. I have already done what I felt was right but thought I'd bring it here anyways.

http://archive.is/NUtKs    Scroll to post # 377

I was going through a thread that as say has run it's course. When I do this I generally request it be locked, then I go through the last posts and report the Sig Spam, from at least the current payment period, usually about a week back.

When I all of a sudden had to stop and think.. do I really report Staff for "Redundant repetitive post- Sig Spam". This is one of the tags I use, not sure if it was that one today. In the end I reported it because it met my criteria.

From that I can't imagine there are many Staff that find themselves in that situation. I did try and look around to see where this member is "Staff" to get a gauge of their authority... what can I say not a fan of pissing people off with more power than myself. Especially when there is the opportunity for them to potentially abuse that power; not that I'm saying that would be the case here. I didn't come across them but though tI'd bring it here for general discussion to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.
2740  Other / Meta / Re: Can we talk about the rampant account trading in the local forums? on: October 10, 2018, 11:43:27 PM
With it not being against the rules; not much can be done unfortunately.

I might be mistaken but dont we have a few active Russians here in meta? I seem to recall a few things from the Russian board being brought here. Edit: only mention this board ad it seems to be the worst, but active locals from any board could do the same.

Maybe we can ask them to flag these account traders on this thread and DT can do what they do best... paint an untrustworthy account red.

That or get theymos to update the rule. I don't see this happening as it would be a rule that infringes on what someone can do with their "property".
