3901  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: APW3++ in 110V plug? on: January 28, 2018, 04:23:13 PM
If you take a look at the specifications on the PSU directly from Bitmain you will see that the power supply only produces 1200 watts at 120v, that is not enough to power an S9. On 220v it produces 1600w which is enough to run the miner. Your options are to run the miner with only 2 hashing boards, use 2 power supplies on the miner, or upgrade to 220v.

https://shop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020170627175024105t4k8SjM5067C

The PSU is suggested by Bitmain in that way because they recommend it for 1 S9 or 1 L3+ or 1 D3. The Alt coin miners require less power so you can run them off the 110V just fine.

Like with any product you need to read up on the specs and make sure you are set up correctly. If you don't have the option of 220V available you can use 2 PSU's to power your S9.

here is a thread on the topic

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1788349.0

I usually just buy a larger PSU (Edited)

Do not power 1 hashboard with 2 PSU's, Turn on the PSU powering the controller last.

Good luck.

So I'm loosing a little faith in my back order supplier ever giving me a timeline on my sapphire rx 580's; if he even knows.

I have found a few MSI brand RX 580's

This is my first build, so I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the MSI cards, they are only going to cost me an extra 60$ and I can pay that off by mining instead of waiting another 3-5 weeks; if even that soon.

-Edited-, found someone else for the Sapphire's still cost 500CAD. And they sent an email stating it was a stock issue on the website Cry

Coincidentally He is also where I ordered my MOBO, and doesn't sound like that one is coming any sooner. Any suggestions on a MOBO. Anything that handles 6 or more cards. I'm starting with 6 but have 2000W available so if it has more capacity I can just Add cards instead of buying a whole new setup.

-Socket type 1150 based on what I've already bought and received, to give more info-

Thanks for the tips and advice.

Case fan is perfect!  Wires are nice and cool!

Glad to hear it, when in doubt circulate more air lol
3904  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Looking For PSU Power Cables on: January 28, 2018, 01:25:25 AM
Hey there,

I know what you mean I checked the last 2 places I ordered cables and they were out of stock.

https://www.customavrack.com/category/144-nema-6-15p-power-cords.aspx

I did find this place in my search, looks like they would have everything except your 1 footers for the c-19's at least. No colour option either  Tongue

Good luck and happy hunting

EDIT: I checked that site out a little more and they are charging a 40$ broker fee for UPS shipping into canada

http://www.cablek.com/product/PCC-615PC13 here is another link Unfortunately they don't have any for the c19 connection that I found

3905  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PSU Wire for APW3++ on: January 28, 2018, 12:25:28 AM
You will be fine with your current setup as long as the miner you are running requires less than 1200W, allowing for some leeway.

When it comes to the power cable don't skimp, is the best advice I can give.

https://www.startech.com/Cables/Computer-Power/External/6ft-14-AWG-Computer-Power-Cord---NEMA5-15P-to-C13~PXT101146

I think this is what you would need, unless you have plans to grow your mine you don't need 220V yet.
3906  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Apw3+ pcie wires getting warm on: January 28, 2018, 12:12:33 AM
That doesn't sound to bad, the wires are getting warm because they are carrying all the current.

I'm not sure what equipment you are running but if you have extra PCI-e connectors you can spread out the load a little.

For example my PSU has 5 cables that split to 5 PCI-e connectors, so I've spread the load out by using 2 cables per hashboard.

They are all on the same PSU so the only danger is if there is a failure internally with my PSU.

If you don't have the extra connectors you could set up a fan to circulate air over the cables/entire setup to help.
3907  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741 error rate on: January 28, 2018, 12:06:30 AM
Just let them run as is. Especially if you are hitting the 8.1 consistently.

I've seen mine get as low as 2.3 and I think the highest I've seen was 3.2.

I wouldn't worry about anything unless you get Error codes in your API log.

3908  Other / Meta / Re: Merits could be a character molding. on: January 27, 2018, 04:34:03 PM

Merit is needed to achieve a new rank. I don't think that merit requarements in campaigns will be usefull.

In addition to requiring Merit to rank up, some managers are adding payment tiers based on your earned Merit. Not the amount you started with but the amount you have been given.  So in these situations where people are giving each other Merit, they can ensure that they will continue to earn as much as possible from a campaign. Anyone with half a brain will be able to abuse the system slowly but surely each month with a group of friends/co-conspirators to ensure they get to rank up and earn Merit. There will of course be the people who still get caught in a scheme like this; but i think far more will slip through unnoticed.
3909  Other / Meta / Re: Merits could be a character molding. on: January 27, 2018, 04:10:19 PM
I think it was a pretty good idea with potential to showcase some quality posters. Unfortunately I feel this is a system that will be abused, just like any other. I have already seen the "expectation" some people have that if they give Merit out they are hoping that person will reciprocate it.

I've also noticed that a lot of the Merit being handed out has been in the, previously considered trash threads or low quality topics. I'm hoping this is just because it is a new system. The problem is people were wanting something to tag or call out spammy low quality posts, to try and stem the signature campaign posting clutter. I don't think this will accomplish that as there is no demerit system for consistently writing garbage.

Even though some Campaign Managers are looking to Add Merit to their requirements it only takes a couple of people in a "circle jerk" to help each other out.

I'm also going to report the post to Mods as this should be discussed in META not Bitcoin Discussion
3910  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Installing 10x dedicated 50amp outlets - $8000 reasonable ? on: January 27, 2018, 02:52:02 PM

I asked for an itemized breakdown and he just didnt answer back - got more quotes lined up for next week

That's a good indication that they were trying to use you for a big payday.

Get as many quotes as you can in, within a reasonable time frame.

In the meantime you can take a look, and run the cables, Install boxes and receptacles. This way you are just paying for them to do the connections and inspect your work.

Or if the relief of the price being significantly lower, pay them to do it all.
3911  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best cloud mining site on: January 27, 2018, 01:23:12 AM
Cloud mining, is just the newest Ponzi scheme.

You are buying someone else their equipment and then paying them a daily maintenance fee to get back your investment if you are lucky. The terms of these agreements usually allow them to cancel the contract when it is no longer profitable without giving you a choice in the matter. When that happens they pocket your purchase price.

For some of these schemes unless they continue to sign up new people they obviously aren't going to continue paying you a profit while they take a loss.

You are far better off to buy a coin (not during a peak) and sit on it if you don't want to invest in your own hardware.

3912  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: January 27, 2018, 01:05:38 AM
Guys its a obvs. Scam!

If you are into cloud mining, *SNIP*

Give it a look  Smiley

I guess you feel right at home in scam central?

I already reported to MOD, for being an off topic post, you might want to snip or delete the quote in your reply as it will then linger even if the post is deleted.

This thread is already filled with enough Vapour without bringing cloud mining into the Mix. I can't wait for the supposed date of first Batch, mostly for this garbage to stop.

For those who spent money I do really hope they deliver, but that's just hope for their sakes, I hate to see anyone get ripped off
3913  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Maximum order quantity of Antminer S9 on: January 26, 2018, 04:19:44 AM
What is the maximum number of Antminer S9's that can be ordered from Bitmain's shop, when it is available. I am looking to purchase 300+ miners and I would like to purchase all of them at once. I have contacted Bitmain about this, and they have not really answered my question and simply referred me to their shop and saying that they will be releasing more miners soon. So, before I get my financing and everything, I would like to know if it is possible to purchase 300+ miners at once, or in a reasonable timeframe.

Also, if anyone has any information about more direct contact with Bitmain, then I would really appreciate that too!

I you can always try the cart option but they tend to sell out fast.

I remember reading posts minths ago about needing a go between who is in China to work as a broker for you.

Have you considered ordering from Canaan. You might atleast get a straight answer and a timeline. It sounds like you are about to go through a huge undertaking; and would like some level of certainty.

Good luck
3914  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Do you shut down your miners in a lightning storm? on: January 26, 2018, 03:45:53 AM
I don't have a huge amount of hashrate and am prone to paranoia.

I installed a whole home surge protector in my place right near the top of the panel; and if I am home I will shut them off for the couple hours a storm is going.

I also only have 5 or 6 big electrical storms a summer so it's not to big a deal for me.
3915  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Wts: 2- s9, Usa on: January 26, 2018, 03:28:19 AM
Escrow is a good start. Can you also post a photo with your forum name and the date with the miners.

3916  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [150TH] [PPLNS 0.5%] Jonny's Mining Emporium (bravo-mining.com) on: January 26, 2018, 03:21:16 AM
So I finally connected; realised it was my dumb mistake lol. That's what I get for glossing over the instructions I kept using weblogin for my worker. Roll Eyes

I did notice a massive uptick in hashrate lol someone wants that 1 BTC bad.

Looking forward to playing around for a while.
3917  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Assitance in cooling down 20 S9 on: January 26, 2018, 03:16:20 AM
If you scour the forum you will find various things people have done for themselves.

My suggestion because it must be a whole room is to buy some thick insulation r16 or 22. Insulate the walls that you find the noise travelling through seal that with poly. So you don't have to worry about the fibers and your miners.

Next for your heat you need to boost your rooms air exchanges.  To do this I would do the hot side cold side split. Where you essentially build a wall through the middle of your miners. Have an air intake on the cold side bringing, and have an exhaust fan on the hot side that discharges outside.

Or just size an I take that brings in cool air at ground level and an exhaust fan removing from the top of the room wherever the miners discharge their hot exhaust.

Another option would be to build a separate shack/shed outside run electrical to that and size your intake and exhaust to maintain temps.
3918  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: January 25, 2018, 02:28:50 PM
factory pricing

The price of A821 is $2200 USD per unit for March.
The price of PSU(1800W 93%) is $110 USD per unit.

The current spot price of A821 is $3500.00 USD per unit.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

I think with $2000 USD price tag they would gather more attention. But who cares , they are going to sell off anyway.

Market needs 3 competitors, and we can barely see 2 now.

There are currently 4 companies delivering miners. All that happened is prices rose with BTC pricing and the fact that they can't keep them in stock.

With Avalon the price had always been a little higher; call it the quality/longevity premium.
3919  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: TRON (TRX) is going crazy. on: January 25, 2018, 02:17:51 PM
Unless Tron can lay down some solid project data. Come up with a list of companies it had firm deals in place with, and meet some of these target deadlines; it's going to remain stagnant.

It will probably see a bump from the coin freezing it is doing until 2020. I don't see that as the project creating the bump though so it might be short lived
3920  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: January 25, 2018, 12:47:29 AM
I can understand fighting for the cart, but after you finally get it you shouldnt have to have it suddenly removed again while filling out payment details. That just doesnt make sense. I feel like I had much less opportunity because I dont have some sort of strong fiber optic cable connection. I just wasted my time refreshing the carts and payment for 2 hours without getting anywhere. Would have gotten 6, then tried 3, then tried just 1. If future sales are the same then im not sure what to make of this particular distributor.

I only started buying new miners back in August; but have found it's often the same. You have so many people trying to buy a small amount.

Just visualize those insane black Friday videos we've all seen.

Like they said before if you email them and let them know the issue you had they try their best to make it up to you or help you out with a cancelled order

I can confirm that Blokforge does support their customers - they came through for me on a couple of transactions.  Based on the purchases I have done and their response to those of us in the forum, I will look there first for new miner related products in the future.  Hopefully when the 841s come out they will be priced competitively to the S9s, the 821s or whatever else maybe on the market and will be available from Blokforge.

I got one of the pricey 821s (with help from Blokforge)  snip
