4341  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon Miner Controller Issue on: October 03, 2017, 05:01:32 AM
I definitely fall into the not an IT expert. When I was setting my controller up I tried to follow the instructions to change the IP address on my laptop, and was pretty sure I did everthing right... based on my googling knowledge; but I couldn't connect to The Controller. I then remembered that my 20$ DLink router was sitting there doing nothing, and that it shared the same 192.168.0.XXX Address, so I plugged it in and used my leftover Ethernet cables to connect my laptop and the controller.

From here it literally took me 30 seconds to connect to the Controller and set it to DHCP, or "Auto assign IP address". Unplugged it from the Dlink router and set it back up with my home network.

While its not the "right" way to do it, it's a little cheat if you have a Dlink router sitting around or a community buy sell trade website, which is where I scored my router a few months back.

Good luck.

So I just wanted to update, as I had been away most of the weekend.

My first order arrived from Minerwarez, and only had a minor delay at customs, for 2 days. This was because Minerwarez, hadn't filled out some business documents for high value shipments, over 2500 CAD. They resolved it quickly and got things moving.

My order arrived much like the others, not sealed, and with a few scuffs and scratches, but nothing major. They definitely weren't used in the sense that they had been running in someones house for months, just appeared to have been burned in, and maybe not cleaned as well as might be expected. I will be able clarify on the difference when My second order arrives this week, Which cleared customs immediately. I did have one box that looked beat up and had a few cosmetic flaws on the fan casing, but it is hashing fine, and I'll see if any problem comes from it, but I took the precaution of notifying Minerwarez, and Canaan with photos.

In regards to customs, I did not have to pay anything extra. What I paid at checkout took care of everything, it even shows this in the Fed Ex tracking that Customs fees are being handled by the Shipper. I though maybe it was a lucky mistake on the first order but it is the same on the second order, so it must be factored into the pricing and shipping charges.

Overall it has been a tough month, but getting the miners up and running made it worth while. Although trying to bone up on my computer networking skills at 1 am was infuriating, I am glad I had a spare D-link router that I set up just to change my controller over to DHCP. Now its just muddling through this new operating system, which has been so far pretty good.

The bonus is that the Miners have been hashing well above the 7.3 mark at stock settings, closer to 7.8

Does anyone know the best way to get ahold of Caanan is? I'm wanting to buy a pallet of their miners but I noticed they don't have them in stock anymore on their website and was going to see when they planned on adding more again.

Steven Mosher who posts on here is a sales rep, I think his email is steve@canaan.io, I'm pretty sure he posted it on here a few weeks ago.
4344  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Confused About 120v versus 240v and PDUs on: September 28, 2017, 03:15:11 AM
Lol.  Yes, I probably did fuck up.  But I thought a PDU had the ability to fan out power?  TO basically control the amount of power to each outlet on the strip, no?

I'm wondering based on your post has the electrician already installed the circuit, as it sounds like maybe you've only discussed it with him. Maybe it's not to late. Because there are better options.

Personally I would think about 2 30 amp circuits running into the space.

I remember your last post, have you thought about how big you want to go overall?
4345  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon6 Raspberry Pi 3 - help needed on: September 27, 2017, 11:59:14 PM
Anyone know where I can get one (and the cable)? Thanks.

Have you tried reaching out to Canaan through a support ticket? It may take a while to get a response but they would probably be the best bet for tracking 1 down. You may also want to post in the marketplace that you would like to buy 1.

good luck
4346  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Airflow Quesstion.. on: September 27, 2017, 09:16:09 PM
I'm a little confused... are you referring to having some sort of a heath exchanger to take the heat away immediately and use it somewhere more useful? Or do you mean using ducting/placement of miners to control where where your heat is being exhausted outside the space you are using to host your miners?

No matter what you are going to generate heat at the miner itself; but you definitely do not want that heat recirculating back to the miner intake.

How does this affect warranty if you have a used unit ?  Canaan sees it is past warranty date and you're SOL..?

I thought I would pass along a bit of info I was able to get from Canaan, as I find myself in the customs waiting game I thought I would do a bit of preemptive digging.

From what I gathered the units received so far and confirmed through the Minerwarez distributor, are pallets from the bulk order center. Some of these pallets are packed and prepped for circulation within China and do not come sealed in plastic, but should be in a box. There may also be the odd unit that doesn't come with cables as they are not part of the package in China. The lack of cables should be rare as they were going through box by box to make sure that items through the distributor would match the description. To get stock to the distributor we may have received 1 or more of these pallets.

I think Phillipma1957's replacement may fall into that category not sure, but as he stated in the video he did tell them he still had working cables.

As far as used or barely used condition, correct me if I'm wrong but all miners are used in the sense that they go through a burn in period for quality assurance; and yes obviously the added benefit of profiting on a machine for a bit for free, lol. Also not being sealed in a bag may contribute to some dust and what not.

In regards to warranty, Canaan can identify the date of manufacture and the pallet that the item originally belonged to; so they can sort out an official path from them to you. This is done with some numbers on the unit itself, not sure which ones as I don't have miine yet Cry .  With that info they can confirm original warranty dates, via the distributor. If you paid via credit card or Paypal you have the added security if your warranty isn't honored within the allotted time frame, with buyer protection.
4348  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Sept 2017 - what's the most cost efficient set up in today's terms on: September 26, 2017, 03:47:00 AM
If you are working with a budget of under 1000$ I would say try an Avalon 741.
Obviously run your numbers through a profit calculator, but these units are supposed to be more reliable and if the price increases again your ROI will decrease.
4349  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Wiring for 5 Avalon 741s on: September 26, 2017, 02:11:01 AM
I completely agree with Phillipma1957
Anytime you are moving air through a duct you will get restrictions. The best thing you can do is increase the cross section of the ducting you are using as accommodates for the restriction, and also increases the velocity of the airflow. Having seen a few of Phillipma1957's photos/ videos he has a great idea by placing the mine within the wind tunnel, I can't say for sure but upon a fan failure in the unit this might also help save them because they still have airmovemnt across them.

Make sure you have a can of RAID handy when the FedEx guy shows up, we don`t want any infestation here in Manitoba! Roll Eyes

Unless they are a match for our hearty mosquitos... might be a secondary benefit to importing.

What have minerwares had to say to the people who recieved dirty/used miners that should have been new? I am expecting a NEW miner in the next week (dispatched to the UK), but I will be pissed if it isn’t in new condition. Having bought from the USA and via PayPal there is some recourse that can happen. I just hope they are sorting out the issues for the people who have already recieved miners

I'm wondering if this packaging/potentially dirty miners has something to do with why my package has had a "customs delay" since Thursday. I have fedex looking into it for more info, but I  will just wait and see.

I'm sorry, well not really. Nothing you have done ads legitimacy to your offers. All of your attempts at legitimacy such as a blank blog, and a no information instagram are cheap attempts. You routinely ignore anyone trying to verify your offers as legitimate, in regards to payment option. You seem to doubt the Escrow services offered in this Forum despite seeing how the trust system works; even yourself claiming to be a vicitm can see that if people had been ripped off by an Escrow agent it would be blasted all over their trust rating.

So my opinion is that this is a scam playing the long game to try and hook someone at an inflated price for the units but less so than Ebay, so it looks like they are getting a deal.
If you were legitimate and in the US, you could easily post these units on ebay and even after fees make more.

I feel even more reinforced in this with you writing in your posts that if people aren't interested they can move on.  This community polices itself and most of will not move on. I will gladly remove this post and apologize if you begin to provide buyer and seller safe payment options, and make a legitimate sale with any of the members of standing within this forum that have tried to make a deal with you.

Scam do not buy
4353  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Shipping Today - Bitmain Antminer s9 / L3+ / d3 - Best Prices & Service on: September 25, 2017, 03:08:45 AM
So will you accept escrow here?

Read above.

So just wondering as I've read your thread and you seem pretty determined. Do you have a website up and running? Are you taking any form of payment where the buyer doesn't assume all the risk?

If you are a company that is looking to build and expand as stated in your other thread, in regards to investors and a capital loan; it should be no issue to create a safe platform for sale.

Even myself when using buy and sell sites to move older or used equipment accept Paypal to put my buyers at ease. If you do not have any of those options, your product offering is just to risky.
4354  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 25, 2017, 01:57:42 AM
If Minerwarez is really shipping used miners, then they should change their categories to "Used miners" and "More used miners" instead of "New miners" and "Used miners".   Grin

well  not to say  anyone is lying about what they got from them..

but the photos shown  were not good enough to be sure  of much of anything..

I own  721'w and 741's  and  that photo could be that of a 721.

I wanted more shots but the guy did not bother showing them.

does not mean he lied  he could just be really freaking pissed off and said fuck this shit.  I am never posting here again.

That's why I thought I'd check to see if you had received anything, I'm just curious to see what the shipments look like, I'm hoping to have mine by the end of the week.

Nice to hear your replacement is on the way, what was the experience in dealing with Canaan for replacement, if you don't mind me asking?
4355  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Wiring for a 220v PSU on: September 24, 2017, 05:34:00 AM
Hey there,

One thing to think about is what your total plans for the circuit are, as you mentioned maybe needing 2 receptacles. Depending on the types of Miners you plan on running you may use up those 20 amps rather quickly. If you find 20 amps is sufficient, I'm pretty sure you just need 12/2 from the panel to the receptacle, plus the ground. With any wiring though you should definitely consult your local codes sometimes they require you to go above and beyond. If you are planning on running a few miners off this same circuit you will likely find yourself upgrading to a 30 amps.
I was running an s4+ and this is similar to the male end I used, with the matching receptacle for my 20 amp circuit. You can pretty much find any cable combination with the ends that you need.

Phillipma1957

Did you receive your units yet? Mine are in customs so I figured some of the US orders may have gotten where they are going. Wanted to see if the previous post was a 1 off as I haven't noticed any other pictures posted.
4357  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 24, 2017, 02:46:08 AM

Got my "NEW" 741 miners from minerwarez.

Pretty freaking pissed, looks like they ran it in a barn for two years.  How the hell do you get bugs in it.

Hi there,

Just wondering were you able to take any more photos from around the unit?

Did you get anywhere talking with Minerwarez, or Canaan regarding your issue?
4358  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 22, 2017, 08:52:08 PM
You guys are kinda scaring me.  I'm new to mining and I just ordered 5 from the September 30th batch.  My friend ordered 10.  This was through minerwarez.com.  I did communicate back and forth a few times with support staff.  They did actually respond when I asked them to consolidate my order (I made 3 seperate orders) to save on shipping costs.  Support personnel said they would do that for me, but when I woke up this morning, my credit card had been charged 3 seperate times.  Ugh.  All my emails went through sales at minerwarez.com

Question for you guys: how long does it normally take for delivery from batch date?  Do you think I will have to wait 1 month from Sept 30th?

edit: i forgot to add that I had originally placed smaller orders directly on canaan's site for the August batch.  However, like you guys, I never heard anything until the emails last night from Steve at Canaan.  So, they completely ignored those orders.  It sounds like they are completely inundated.

You will receive an email with your tracking info, mine arrived 2 days later than expected but overall not to bad. From there it is up to fed ex.
I don't think there are any savings for bundling orders because they charge per piece and shop them as individual pieces.
I do hope in the future they get a few different size boxes to accommodate orders of more than 1 unit.
4359  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 22, 2017, 04:14:10 AM
So just an opinion here, I definitely agree they failed in rolling communication out to the home miner, at almost every turn. Honestly they shouldn't have even held a sale on August 31, but they must have thought they could get things done as they did in the past
Now quality of the order we have heard about aside, anyone who hasn't been able to order from minerwarez, didn't put in the leg work. We all saw the main site direct us there, the minerwarez site did give the option to receive an email update when it went live, and I received it. I had an order in on the 31st but no money changed hands and I felt fine ordering from the distributor and cancelling my Canaan order, and if you wanted a unit you could have done the same.

Bullshit.  We were expecting to be dealt with in order AND the Canaan rep said he wasn't certain if switching would provide delivery faster or slower.  That's exactly what he said in an email.

Sure you roll the dice and order from both, as I call that's pretty much what the Canaan rep said was the cause of the problem, duplicate orders.

I did post in this forum and sent an email asking for service in FIFO order, from either source, and got nowhere.

So at the same time I put in the leg work and got screwed by not only the Mfr. but also people like you.

No hard feelings, hopefully a poisonous bug doesn't crawl out of your miner.

Of course never any hard feelings when poisonous bugs are involved... lol.
The double orders referred to were placed within Canaan.io. They are entirely separate from the distributor, and if at any point Canaan.io sent me an address for payment i would have jumped on that as well. The other form of double order was requests for extra miners if you did receive communication from Canaan.io.
I saw this new distributor as a bulk order pallet receiver, the people that it is easier to deal with from canaan's main warehouse. So I ordered a few units, because I was still being strung along on my original order as well.
I'm just saying that, everyone here had access to the same info I did, from the time Steve put his e-mail in the forum, as well as access to the homepage. Sorry if you didn't get units, maybe you are lucky if my units look like the above pictures... Hope not. First thing I did after securing my units was to share the option to order from the distributor on a few threads here.

Seriously I did not mean to offend anyone but this industry is not focused on customer service and you should not expect them to take care of you, stay vigilant.

Where was the notice to go to Minerwarez?  I did not get it.  Once my order was in at Canaan I assumed I was waiting for an email with a bitcoin address. Only after not getting anything did I come back here (and that was after going to the support page on Canaan and seeing nothing).

This is on them, not me, nor the hundreds (I suspect) of others who are still not aware.

From the day I placed my order I checked in on it once a day and sent requests for an address, by doing this I saw when they posted about the distributor on the Canaan.io homepage. From there I went ahead with trying to get a miner in my hands asap, including in the meantime being a part of the group buy that never was.
Like I said they failed at commuion, but if you just sit back and wait on things to work out, you'll probably be disappointed.
The same goes with when I noticed others with tracking info, with orders placed after my own, I fired off emails u til I got my tracking info. It only took 2. I guess the point is follow up in things and don't expect any company to take care of you
