521  Other / Off-topic / Re: Dont chase your loss on: March 06, 2024, 03:32:27 AM
This is a familiar story. because for the most part, gamblers are oriented only towards winning. Therefore, if a gambler loses, he will definitely catch up on that loss. and because they are impatient, and want to get instant wealth, they take the wrong path when gambling.
It's not like it's not a bad idea to have that kind of mindset or orientation though, of course you're going to be oriented towards winning so it's definitely a good idea to be disregarding the fact that some people have that in them, you know manifesting what they want to become is a positive thing in my opinion. Of course never chase your losses as it's evident that doing so would only lead to more losses but can you really blame someone when they're this focused on winning? They've lost a lot already and most of them just really want to just get a win so they don't feel bad about themselves.

Regarding chasing losses, how do we know that we're chasing losses though? There's definitely some time where you're not really chasing losses though, 5 losses in a row isn't considered in my opinion, I'm confused because some people might see 5 as chasing losses but I believe that it should be a much higher number or something and at the same time, it affects your game and the strategies you employ if the game requires you.
522  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you experience this sometimes? on: March 06, 2024, 02:09:57 AM
What I noticed about sport betting which is disappointing is that the team that you will think that has the highest possibility to win will draw or lose, but the one that you think would win also but not having higher probability would be the one that will later win. I do noticed this in some matches that I staked before. I do not use to have the feeling that a match can make me lose unless I analyse it and my analysis tells me not to go for the team and I will not go for it.
It wouldn't really be a problem though if you've been a fan of the league or the game for a long time and you know how they do it, it's disappointing but it sometimes also have something to do with skill issue since you're talking about not knowing which team to pick, there's also the factor of instincts sometimes, the odds are lowered on this team then they're the likely winner of this match. Another factor would probably be the risk taking factor, you won't be disappointed if you've betted on both sides right? You win big or you win small.

Never had what you're feeling though but then it's definitely going to be a lesson to everyone, follow your gut feel because if OP did followed his gut, probably the parlay bet would be a success.
523  Economy / Economics / Re: Keeping money and keeping bitcoins? are they similar? on: March 05, 2024, 01:24:46 PM
meanwhile, keeping money means that someone keeps their money either in a bank or a safe deposit box, and it is usually used as savings or emergency funds if at any time they need money. i think no one wants to keep money to make a profit because usually the value of that money will decrease in line with inflation.
That too is a bit different too given that keeping your money in bank can sort of defend against inflation which would lead to depreciation of asset and unlike keeping in safe deposit which is the lowest kind of keeping you should do. Keeping bitcoins is much superior given that bitcoin is a guaranteed growth. For me though, the only similarities of keeping money and keeping bitcoins is that you're keeping a financial tool which is money although in different forms.
524  Economy / Economics / Re: Boycott of Chinese products and economic relations - when ? on: March 05, 2024, 11:15:03 AM
I don't think it is even possible to avoid anything that originates from China for any country in the world because they are the manufacturers of everything and they prepared the infrastructure for decades to be that level. China is not having McDonald's or Star Bucks that everyone can afford to boycott and continue running their daily life with no effect but its not the same with Chinese products.
Totally agree, the best thing isn't to boycott them by not buying because as you've said, their products are too numerous to be avoided, the best thing actually and proven to be effective is that to limit or boycott through not selling to them machineries that's needed to build the products, maybe even the pivotal piece in a machinery or even the technology altogether, China is trying get the technology to create the transistors that US and Taiwan have and they're so bent on trying to get that that Taiwan is allegedly having a plan to destroy the main chip factory in case of an invasion by China.
525  Economy / Economics / Re: Reckless financial decision ? on: March 05, 2024, 09:22:24 AM
I don't think that it's a reckless financial decision, that celebrity's got a lifestyle that he/she can't live without and so he ends up having to decline it, I guess that celebrity has a principle that he doesn't want to break anytime soon plus he's a celebrity so I don't think that they're going to have a problem finding other million dollar deal, and I don't think that they're going to be offered a million dollar deal if they're not already a millionaire and from what I can deduce from that, these celebrity's probably financially stable and got a lot of income stream so that rejection might not be a big deal to that person, maybe it's just us at the bottom that sees it as a reckless decision and I think that we can learn something from that person.
526  Economy / Economics / Re: Hard times in the average Nigerian society on: March 05, 2024, 08:45:55 AM
We have our local board for discussion of all issues relating to our country, and from your post history you already know this because you have posted there. Why are you bringing this discussion here?
I don't think it's not a bad idea to share the issues here, I mean the whole world can probably relate to the plight that you and your countrymen experience.

Man, Boko Haram is still really this hardcore, they're a really scary group of terrorists, it really saddens me that religious extremism is making all this atrocities thus making it all difficult for us people that wants to just live to be doing that living in peace, really weird that we can never live in harmony despite religious difference, someone always has to take things for the worse for others. This is just my hunch but the reason that Boko Haram is still operating is because there's shady government deals that are arming them and their attacks are creating favors to these shady government officials or organizations that are having their interests furthered by these terrorists, also the most influential arms dealer too, they're the second if not the first reason why these problems are persisting.
527  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Try to stick to your instincts as a gambler on: March 05, 2024, 06:11:50 AM
Not just in gambling, I think that in most aspects of your life, it would be a good advice to stick to your instincts, I can't count how many stuff that lead to me doing stupid things if I didn't follow my gut and so far, it paid off so far because I didn't got into any trouble. With gambling though, it's a bit different for me since I don't do much betting but when I do, definitely my instincts are going to be useful. It's also worth noting that there's going to be some times that it's not your gut that's talking to you and you would be doing some decisions that are totally wrong.

Another thing that we should consider is that we'll also going to be factoring in reality, I mean look at the teams that you're betting, your instincts might say you bet on the higher odds but the reality is that they're playing against the strongest team on the league and it's not great that you should waste your time when the obvious pick is already there.
528  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which player are you? on: March 05, 2024, 04:32:57 AM
Although I do like the idea of exploring something new most of the time, I do tend to do something different when it comes to gambling, I'll stick to the one that I already so I don't look like a sucker when I play it and there's money involved in it so it's not really the best if I explore while risking the money, I'd better do some kind of practice first if I'm really curious and I want to play a game but most of the time, it doesn't happen because I'm not really that got much of a drive learning new kind of gambling games which is kind of an ironic thing to me because I just said that I love to explore something different, maybe it's just in learning new gambling games that I'm not that hyped up but when it comes to other stuff, my enthusiasm is through the roof.
529  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does casino streamers have influence in your gambling life? on: March 05, 2024, 03:23:12 AM
Little influence. On YouTube I see some videos of poker players but I don't spend the day watching them. The one I usually see the most is Daniel Negreanu, who apart from the educational content seems like a nice guy. I learn things from him, but how can I learn things from other poker players, and precisely the streams I don't usually watch because I find them boring. I prefer to watch later videos on hand analysis or other topics.
Negreanu's the GOAT, his clips of getting the right cards of the opponents are awesome, really gets in your head when they declare what you've got, you can't really react or do your usual poker face when your opponents like that, not to mention that he's my kind of guy in poker, I like loud and distracting, definitely will destroy the silence that's mostly present in the game. I have no interests in math of the games that I play, even if I do know that part, I believe that I won't be getting any kind of effect to my gambling habit or make me get more wins than usual.
530  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The Future of Gambling on: March 05, 2024, 02:24:56 AM
I imagine gambling like .there will be a device where in all people will be just a hologram, and be on the same table seeing other participants, because what we all see in the movies are coming in real-life like flying cars etc., so i think its easy for gambling to innovate.
That's going to happen someday, people that are inspired by sci-fi movies have a way of finding out ways to figure the things that they want to create, that's how it has been for thousands of years, innovators getting inspiration. I don't like your idea of flying cars though, have you heard of the 9/11 attacks? Flying would enable that event en masse, let's just stick with gambling for now, I think what the VR technology that we have right now, it's probably getting closer to us achieving that dream that many of us gamblers been wanting to for so long and another advantage of this is the fact that if physical casinos get involved with this technology, we might see more people from all over the globe playing in a physical casino without leaving at the comfort of their own home.
531  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: This was my highest risk. on: March 05, 2024, 01:42:21 AM
Haven't bought a bet from another person, seem to me that it almost always lead to a disaster, did that friend sold it to you for 20k when there's still no wins in it or that there's only 2 wins left? Definitely high risk but I'm sure that the pay off is going to be astronomical when you consider how much it would, it's accumulated bets after all. I don't think I'd even do it even if there's only 2 wins left in the ticket because I feel like I'm enabling that friend's habit and at the same time making it difficult for me to control my gambling habits if I do stuff like this, betting yourself is one thing but buying other's tickets to me is another, maybe I'll get the courage to do this someday too, you know, risking large amounts of money for an uncertain but definitely be paying good kind of bet or spin.
532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A matter of family conflict regarding Bitcoin. on: March 04, 2024, 08:37:20 AM
As much the media wants to paint this as the bad effects of bitcoin to the family values and structure which is the vibe that I'm getting out of this and the implied message here, we can still never be able to change the fact that bitcoin is just a tool and that it's the skill of the craftsman that defines what's going to happen and in this case, it's just a plain old greed in the family no less, it's normal in a really bad family, relatives fighting over money, land title and properties is something that's common on those toxic families, it's sad that money is the most caustic reason why families are being split in different sides, I could understand if someone in the family is a really bad person but when the reason for why they're divided during gatherings and other events involving the whole clan, it's such a sad thing, just makes the old adage "money is the root of all evil" even more true.
533  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lottery ticket sports bets on: March 04, 2024, 02:17:34 AM
Definitely considered but 25 matches is just too much if you ask me, imagine getting 24 correct prediction then your last pick fumbled, that's got to be a really sad day for you because ain't no way that you can accurately predict those wins anyway, it's definitely akin to lottery but much more intense and difficult because in lottery I think you only need 7 or 8 correctly ordered numbers in order to win unlike with this one where it can go much higher. Now that I think about it, I really want to see a person that's tried to do this and won because that's got to be one hell of a story that they can win this much amount and get a really good prediction streak.

Won't this thing also be susceptible to some form of rigging? You know kind of like when mafia dons try to influence a player or maybe even the organization to rig the game to their favor. Is game fixing still a big thing today? Haven't heard a lot of that for some time now.
534  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your state on mind if your son stole your money to gamble? on: March 03, 2024, 03:22:58 PM
I don't have a kid yet but I already know that I'm going to be livid that my kid is going to go this low at such a young age and the reason for the theft is gambling, there's no way around it for me, I can't be mad for the kid for long though and I know that there's going to be a lot of talk about responsibility and the implications and consequences of the actions that they'd commit, it's a long talk definitely and I do hope that if I ever become a parent and this similar situation ever happens to me, I do hope that it will never be awkward for me and my children to do this serious talk and this serious talks should change the kid for the better.

Parenting is a difficult thing to do, some parents don't even deserve to be a parent in the first place but they do. I think that in a situation like that, I believe that it's the failing of the parents that they're children are like that, they're the ones that got more experience and the adults in the setting after all, they're going to be the person that I'm talking about if they didn't do the adult thing in that situation or overall parenthood. A stolen money will always be a stolen money, even if that lead to something big but when it comes to morals, it's a different debate.
535  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why in some religion gambling is forbidden? on: March 03, 2024, 01:53:14 PM
Because they see gambling isn't preaching anything besides chasing money and material things, religion wants the ethereal, the spirit and the virtue and gambling is the complete opposite of that, gambling tolerates debauchery and greed which shouldn't be the thing that most religion think should be the thing that we as humans pursuing and that we all should seek personal enlightenment and not temporary pleasures. Another reason that I can think of why it's forbidden is because when a gambling addict becomes desperate for money to spend on their habit, they'll tend to try their hands on stealing from people which only leads the much worse paths, they see gambling like how many of us see meth, cocaine, heroin and other illegal substances, they see it as a bane.
536  Other / Off-topic / Re: Does having children have an influence on gambling habits? on: March 03, 2024, 01:07:28 PM
Most of the people are engaged in gambling even after a married life but some gambler leave gambling when they are married to someone. It depends on the mentality, even some people don't think about their children and family so they always like to take money from them to continue gambling.
This is what's going to happen to a gambler, either having a kid will change them for the better or for the worse, it also shows where you stand with the kid when it comes to whether you love the kid or not because if you do love the kid, you're going to be changing for the good and you will do your best not to go back to your old life that you know will ruin your family and your relationship with your child if you ever planned on going back, that's a guarantee and no other way around it.
I think married people who don't have job are more involved in gambling because they don't have money and they want to gather money to fulfill the needs of their money without thinking about the way of earning that it is bad or good.
Yes, that's a likely thing that happens, those that are already dirt poor are the ones that are gambling even more, they still have hopes that they might be able to turn their life around at a single stroke of luck which isn't true, gambling wins are almost always leading to more gambling and you end up losing the money that you've won because you thought you can win even bigger.
537  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Losing at gambling on: March 03, 2024, 12:25:26 PM
If you let your wife/partner or significant other to go to that point then it's probably your fault too that they've gone to that point, you tolerated the gambling habit because the turn out is favorable and your partner showers you with riches when they get a win, I think that in that case, divorce is probably the only choice or if it's not legal, annulment or separation because you both are only digging your own graves the longer you stay together. Gambling is something that should be talked about when you're in a relationship because gambling is a life destroyer if left unchecked. It's really specific situation OP, is there a truth in that or it's all hypothetical?

Regards to the choice of forgiving that person, I believe that it depends on the severity of the case, if you really can't get back on your feet with that lose that your partner did then it's probably going to take someone a long time to forgive them and I believe that no matter how severe the case is, if gambling and money problems is constantly getting in your marriage or relationship then divorce or separation should be the only option, I think in this choices that's the most logical, forgiveness will come someday, let yourself get out of that quicksand that you call a relationship.
538  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Owner of 8K bitcoin lost in landfill threatens to bankrupt local council on: March 03, 2024, 07:12:02 AM
That hard drive is long gone, even if they found it, the possibility of it being still on a working order is close to impossible, ain't no way that hard drives before 2013 are strong enough to survive from falling from high places and being move around and bumping solid stuff along the way, that's going to damage the disk inside as I recall, these hard drives are fragile. I guess the way for this man's obsession to end is if he accepts the fact that he's losing a battle that wasn't winnable in the first place and I'm definitely sure that even if he succeeds with the bankruptcy of the city council, it's never going to bring back the bitcoin that he had thrown away.
539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How I was able to donate Books to school pupils with my little Campaign Bitcoin on: March 03, 2024, 06:29:31 AM
Wow, that's a really awesome thing that you're doing and a smart one too, you give the information to the people that really needs to know about that information and at the same time, you're helping them build a foundation of character that doesn't submit to oppressive institution because that's what bitcoin is to me. People like you are the reason for the continuous growth of the bitcoin market and it's adoption and influence all over the world, there's no other way to say it and I believe that you and others like you are a big foundation to the spreading of the knowledge of bitcoin. Now that they're curious with those notebooks, I hope that they would pursue you and ask for things that's related to bitcoin.

This probably took a lot of time, doing the preparation and being allowed to donate those notebooks which has obvious messages that talks about bitcoin, if I did that in a local library, I'd probably not be allowed to donate a book that's got something to do with bitcoin, I haven't seen them not accept though, might try once I found the right book to donate.
540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tournament gave 25 bitcoins as prize to last places on: March 03, 2024, 05:39:37 AM
I am pretty sure most of those coins are lost. If you search the block explorer for that day and you find an address which sent 25 BTC to the 4 participants you will see that they were never spent.

They probably just delete the email or threw away that piece of paper with the private key and it’s gone forever. Bitcoin was like less than $1 back then and not worth it setting up a wallet, finding an exchange to sell just to get $20.
Probably lost but I still like to lie to myself that those that got them still have their bitcoins or that they've probably sold this already but not when the price is in the five digits, they've probably got an access to it when it was still around 100 USD or a bit higher and they saw that it's a big money for them and they don't mind not hodling on to it or if they're lucky that they still got those bitcoins, they'd be talking about it right now but I don't see the players that have participated from this StarCraft tournament showing in public that they've sold their bitcoins at five digit price so they've probably sold it a long time ago or you could be right, that they've forgotten about it and is rolling around crying because they remember they've got a bitcoin but they forgot where they've put it.

I can imagine what these players felt when they've got bitcoins as consolation prices, they're probably stupefied or something like that and that they want to cash it in quick for a real money.
