621  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: February 21, 2023, 02:45:41 PM
Even in relation to withdrawing money from exchanges, people really only started to listen after FTX went down,

It goes in cycles.  People payed attention after the Bitconnect fiasco, and then again after many got Goxxed.  Now we have FTX to remind people to remain diligent.

and I know that because news articles started popping up with titles such as "Bitcoin maximalists organizing bank runs on exchanges", and presumably such titles are read by thousands of people. It probably made a few dents in the population using exchanges as a wallet, but that's about it.

I have a much more cynical outlook on headlines like that.  The media is nothing but another corporate entity looking for ways to part people from their money.  They will always side with other corporate pirates, in this case to paint "bitcoin maximalists" as the bad guys.  Couple that with the impeccable timing of claims that a "bitcoin developer" (Luke Dashjr,) got hacked and then blamed self-custody as the root cause for his loss.  Very few in the media understand, let alone care about bitcoin and it's ability to keep our wealth secure.  That's the last thing they want, anyway.

Taint is different thing to fight in that most people aren't even talking about it, which means they have no way to know that it's a problem.

Taint is just the next battle for the minds of bitcoiners.  It'll take some time and lots of information to get people to see how preposterous it is to paint some bitcoin as tainted.  As jackg pointed out, 4 transaction fees is all it takes to take your "100% risky" bitcoin down to only 6% risky.  So, for less than $0.25 our tainted bitcoin is clean again?  It just goes to show that Chain Analysis is a scam, profiteering on people's fear, which they continue to propegate with the help of the media.
622  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bisq - Exchange, Decentralized. on: February 21, 2023, 03:13:06 AM
I've heard that this functionality is in the works. It will be pretty awesome to have Bisq running on a home server with the ability to access all it's features from a mobile app or a webpage.
Really? Where did you hear that, if I may ask?

Some reddit post from an unknown individual, lol.  Sorry, I didn't mean to get your hopes up or make it sound like I heard it from a reliable source.

The CLI options certainly make it possible for some crafty individual to develop a frontend.  The software is Java based, but I don't think the API cares what language is used for the frontend.

That would be awesome, indeed. I envision something like Ride-The-Lightning, which is accessible from any of your devices that runs Tor Browser. A phone app could connect to it, too, similarly to how SPV wallets (desktop or mobile) can connect to your full node's Electrum Server through Tor.

Lol, RTL (and Electrs) is what I was updating yesterday.  I'm sensing some cosmic-wavelength-connection here...  either that or you installed a key logger on my 'puter.   Shocked  Wink
623  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: February 21, 2023, 02:47:39 AM
you won't believe it, I used ChipMixer)

You're right, I don't believe it because chipmixer is not an exchange.  Let me rephrase my question; where did you get that screenshot?
Might be a block explorer? They sometimes have basic 'blockchain analysis' built-in that shows who is the owner of some address and similar. Since it talks about risk, it does seem like some sort of site where the user deposited money. Could be an exchange, could just as well be a poker or gambling site.

@skyreny, please have a look at: Bisq

It looks like an exchange or some sort of custodial wallet, the word "deposit" in the image is a dead giveaway:

Don't want to be advertising poor services but doing a test with a few of those seems to suggest your "risk" halves per hop you make out of chipmixer, what a tremendous subscription for an exchange to buy Grin (my point isn't their system is inherently stupid, it's that ANY system trying to exclusively block mixers is - they'll never be able to find perfect).

Lol, now that's funny.  It seems like all these presumably smart people who run exchanges and services with custodial wallets would see the folly in wasting their hard earned money on the "Chain Analysis" scam.  It is just that; a scam.

~

I was doing some server updates yesterday, and went looking for exactly what you're describing, but was disappointed to find that it still didn't exist.  This wasn't the first time I went looking for such a thing, so I wasn't expecting much.  It appears that the CLI options to which you linked were only recreantly added (v1.9,) and I've heard that this functionality is in the works.  It will be pretty awesome to have Bisq running on a home server with the ability to access all it's features from a mobile app or a webpage.

I started thinking about it again recently while learning how to run Robosats locally.  But Robosats still has many of it's functions running on remote servers, obviously.

626  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: February 21, 2023, 12:39:49 AM
Yeah this is why I don't leave too much money / bitcoin in my casino accounts, you just never know.  Duelbits the company we have a campaign for (wheelz, talking to you on this one) seem to be very legit, run ads at pro soccer stadiums over in Europe etc (I know I know, so did FTX smh) so companies like that seem to be a much safter bet and ones that should be used.  I use Bovada mainly (duelbits doesn't allow for US citizens) and they actually won't let you use the same btc address more than once to cash out, so just the opposite of "we don't recognize this address" which is total nonsense.

Sponsoring a sport or a professional teams is not a good way to measure whether a sportsbook is legit or scam.  I don't know if 1xBet is still sponsoring any soccer clubs, but not long ago they sponsored one of the big Spanish teams.  Now they're considered one of the bigger scammers in the industry, and also have been linked to 1xBit, which has many well documented scam accusations.

The best course of action is to never keep much (if any) bitcoin in any custodial wallet, sportsbook, casino, or even legit exchanges like Binance or CoinBase.

I watched a little XFL this weekend. Mostly highlights.  I saw Josh Gordan is playing for a team and had a nice TD.  I'll prob try and get in to it a little more.

I had a XFL game on yesterday while I was cleaning the kitchen, and it was pretty entertaining.  It's obvious the players are "average" in NFL terms, but hell it's football in late February.  Beggars can't be choosers.  Cheesy

I might sit down and watch a game this coming weekend, just to get my head wrapped around the different rules.
627  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: February 21, 2023, 12:19:11 AM
I used to have a good risk score when using the exchanger, but now it is 100%, and marked ChipMixer.

Looks like it's time to switch to a different exchange, or use P2P exchanges instead.  Exchanges that contract with chain analysis companies are not looking out for your best interest, and behave as though they hate bitcoin's fungibility.

Just out of curiosity, which exchange are you using?
628  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How do the biggest businesses contribute to open source software (Bitcoin)? on: February 20, 2023, 09:07:32 PM
Recently Foundation, the maker of the Passport Hardware Wallet was hiring a manufacturing production manager (it piqued my interest because that's my bailiwick, but I didn't apply) and one of their policies they mentioned in their recruitment ad is allowing their employees to contribute to unrelated open-source projects for a up to 8 hours per week.  I thought that was pretty darn cool of them, never having heard of an employer being so generous with voluntary time.

Obviously a company that focuses on providing open-source products and software like Foundation has a lot to gain by supporting the ecosystem.  Once I got over my shock of a company donating 20% of it's talent, I started thinking that this is actually something that every company that's involved in bitcoin should be doing.  Not only from the perspective that it could benefit the organization directly, but by supporting the ecosystem and attracting more bitcoin users, it could very likely benefit the company indirectly.
629  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why doesn't every hardware wallet support two-factor seed phrases? on: February 20, 2023, 05:20:36 PM
Unfortunately I am very careless and lose all my bitcoin in a boating accident at least three times a year. Wink

That is quite a careless habit you've developed, but it seems pretty typical for a red-blooded, freedom-loving American.  I've been losing firearms in unfortunate boating accidents since the early aughts.  I tend to store my seeds in the same places I store my firearms, so my bitcoin is just as vulnerable.  Wink

And I haven't even owned a boat in last 4 years.   Grin
630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Node unactive? Blocks stuck at 97% on: February 19, 2023, 06:31:48 PM
Alright so I managed to get TOR up and running (glad I had the node issue cause I wouldn't have realized it wasn't running). Core still wouldn't connect to any peer for some reason so I decided to hash out onlynet=onion and it's working now.

It might take a several minutes for TOR to spin up and for your node to find onion peers, are you sure you waited long enough?  You can quickly check the status of your Tor proxy with the following command:

Code:
sudo systemctl status tor

I'm also curious how you installed TOR.  It's been a while so my memory on the issue is faded, but I tried anonymizing a package (I don't remember which, but it wasn't bitcoin) and had issues with the standard TOR package from the Ubuntu repository.  The standard Ubuntu and Debian apt repositories install an older release of TOR, you can get the latest release by updating your source list.

Here's a tutorial on how to set up the Tor Project's official repository: https://support.torproject.org/apt/tor-deb-repo/
631  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledgner Nano X - Turns off immediately on: February 19, 2023, 06:06:08 PM
**To avoid problems I have already ordered a new ledger which will be delivered to me on Tuesday, and having the recovery phrase I feel calm, also because the addresses with the coins show no movements.

As others have mentioned, you aren't alone when it comes to Ledger's Nano X issues.

Since you have the seed phrase, you can restore you wallet using any method that supports Bip39 seeds.  An offline computer with Electrum installed can be used as a substitute for a hardware wallet, if you're in a pinch.

As for a replacement for your Nano X, I would look at other brands of hardware wallets if I were you.  If you deal with a bunch of alt-coins the Trezor would likely work well for you, and it's a much better wallet than the Ledger in my opinion.  The ColdCard is also a good wallet and is in the same price range as the Nano X, but the ColdCard doesn't support alts, it's only for bitcoin.

DireWolfM14 i won't take it you acuse me again of this practice

if you go ahead and  acuse me again in the future i will have to file a complaint

You might as well file a complaint, because your threats aren't convincing me that your not a scammer.  In fact, that's exactly how a scammer would behave.  Scammer.

Just curious, with whom will you be filing the complaint against me?
633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Robosats self hosting question on: February 18, 2023, 05:55:45 PM
Anyone else here self-hosting RoboSats?

I recently installed it using the Docker method so I can run it locally, and access it from VPN.  Some of the networks I use block TOR, so if I want to access RoboSats from those networks I have to be able to connect to a clearnet IP, but I only want to do so if it's running on my own VPN.  Anyway, RoboSats is running and accessible from other machines on my LAN/VPN via port 12596.  However, I keep getting the notice below in my logs, and I'm reluctant to use it until I understand what's going on.

Code:
npm-dev      |
npm-dev      | > frontend@0.3.4 dev
npm-dev      | > webpack --watch --progress --mode development
npm-dev      |
npm-dev      | sh: 1: webpack: not found
npm-dev exited with code 127

When I check the status of the docker container I see that the npm-dev container keeps restarting:

Code:
root@node-server:~# docker ps -a
CONTAINER ID   IMAGE                     COMMAND                  CREATED          STATUS                            PORTS                                                               NAMES
d17f7b384d54   nodeapp-nodeapp           "docker-entrypoint.s…"   51 minutes ago   Up 51 minutes                                                                                         nodeapp-dev
00f2c72dfe5e   nodeapp-frontend          "docker-entrypoint.s…"   51 minutes ago   Restarting (127) 23 seconds ago                                                                       npm-dev
ea751fee0991   nodeapp-tor               "/root/entrypoint.sh"    51 minutes ago   Up 51 minutes                     9001/tcp, 9050/tcp, 0.0.0.0:12596->12596/tcp, :::12596->12596/tcp   tor-dev

To set it up I followed the very simple instructions for the Frontend Docker container that can be found here:
https://github.com/Reckless-Satoshi/robosats/blob/main/setup.md#set-up

Environment:
  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz
  • 16GB RAM
  • Debian 11 (5.10.162-1)
  • Docker version 23.0.1, build a5ee5b1

I have NPM and Node installed on the system, and they are the latest LTS versions from the nodesource repository.  I doubt that matters since RoboSats is running in it's own container.

Is this an issue I need to be worried about, and if so, any advice?
634  Economy / Reputation / Re: Why no Type 3 or even type 2 against Yogg. on: February 13, 2023, 05:59:46 PM
Why can't collectibles are just have the item with you but not funded. Am a stupid to understand collectibles when it's about crypto balance? Bitcoin teaches us to have your own private key not someone else's.

There are vendor who sell unfunded, Do It Yourself (DIY) coins, Bitcoin Penny is a good example.  I may be wrong about this, but it's been my perception that pre-funded coins tend to gain "collectability" value at a faster rate than DIY coins.

I like giving funded coins as gifts, and I've done so many times.  All have been DIY coins, the keys to which have been generated by me.  I would never give a loved-one a gift unless I was 100% certain that only I could scam them.  Tongue

...In this case I think having all of Yogg's previous positive trust remain in place is a good thing...

I disagree. I think taking out the positive and putting in a negative with a comment as to why it was a positive and now a negative would be better.
Same way after some people 'redeem' themselves negatives are changed to neutral.

If something changes feedback can be changed again. AND there are enough inactive users who left positive trust that will stay there forever unless they come back.
So it's not like there would be no positive trust left.

-Dave

I'm not opposed to that approach either, but in some cases the feedback was unrelated to Yogg's ColdKey business.  For example, DarkStar_ left feedback relating to Yogg's borrowing habits, and I'm not sure how I feel about encouraging DarkStar_ to remove or change his feedback.  The feedback is still accurate, but given Yogg's more recent feedback I doubt that DarkStar_ or anyone else would lend money to Yogg again.  Having that feedback remain does show that Yogg was working towards the long-con.  That could provide a valuable lesson to all.
635  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan or advice. Collateral. 500€ 10 days! on: February 13, 2023, 05:21:05 PM
Sorry about the confusion, im giving the 200 dollars, because i need 500€, im not sure how things work exactly so i can say that im fully letting off, of the funds i have and paying the loan in 10 days. I just added the nft because its at least something also

I see, you have up to two hundred dollars, not one hundred and seventy thousand dollars, which is how it looks based on he way you wrote the numbers.

No, that's not enough to get a €500 loan.  Most lenders will insist on the collateral being valued at 120% of the loan amount.  In this case you would need €600 worth of collateral to get a €500 loan.

Another thing; this is not a fiat lending board, it's a bitcoin lending board.  Your request is off-topic here, I suggest you post it in your local board.  Maybe someone in your community can help you.
636  Economy / Reputation / Re: Why no Type 3 or even type 2 against Yogg. on: February 13, 2023, 04:30:47 PM
Isn't the positive trust supposed to be deleted when someone scamming? Or at least in Yogg's case, I'm seeing a lot of his positive trust because of the Coldkey purchase.
even some DT members gave him negative trust and positive one still exists Huh

I don't think that is necessary.  In this case I think having all of Yogg's previous positive trust remain in place is a good thing.  It shows that even someone with a good reputation can go rogue at any time.  It's especially helpful with a situation like this because just the act of buying Yogg's goods was implicitly placing your trust in him.  I don't want to be an asshole about it (I can't help it,) but trusting someone else to generate keys for you is just asking for it.  Yogg is a perfect example of why it should never have been done.  I know I know, Casascius...
637  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan or advice. Collateral. 500€ 10 days! on: February 13, 2023, 04:17:28 PM
Im in need of 500 euro, my collaterall is around 170,200 dollars. Can someone advice me which platform is most likely to lend me this amount or if anyone p2p like, who i can trust and vice versa. I can add 2 web3 domains with al nft from readyplayerme. Named diamondsvvs.nft and couplegrams.zil.
Its urgent case and im rushed to seek help or find fast solution. Thanks in advance to everyone who give advice or whatever, everything is in help.

I'm confused.  Are you saying you have $170,200 but you want to borrow €500?  Why not just convert those dollars to euros and use your own money?

Or, are you saying that your "collateral" (web domains and NFTs) are worth $170,200?  If it's the latter, you are unlikely to get a loan here.  Domains are not valid collateral, and NFTs are notoriously over valued.
638  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bisq trading fees / losing maker/taker fees on: February 11, 2023, 05:53:41 PM
With the trade already started, can both trading partners cancel it by agreement without losing their security deposits,

A trade can't be "cancelled" in the traditional sense, but if an issue arises the traders can submit a dispute at any time.  Some times the mediators prefer to let the trade go through the trade period before making any decisions.  I don't use swift, but my fiat payment methods have a trade period of 4 days.  Disputes are started by clicking the "Get Support" button on the trade screen.

or can open trades only be cancelled by mediators/arbitrators during dispute resolution? My guess is that a Bisq 3rd-party has to step in.

As far as I know, mediators have no control over the funds.  They can reset the trade status which allows the two traders to complete the trade.  Arbitration is much more severe and does give control of the funds to the arbitrator.  That can result in one of the traders losing some or all of his deposit if he was perceived to have been attempting a scam.

More info here: https://docs.bisq.network/trading-rules#dispute-resolution
639  Economy / Lending / Re: want a loan of $1000 on: February 11, 2023, 04:05:27 PM
There are a lot of striking similarities among these accounts:

All these accounts are around 3 years old, they all woke up some time within the past year, they all gravitate to the lending board within their first few posts, and they all behave incredulously when reasonably told they won't get a loan.  I don't know what's really going on, but something about all these accounts is very familiar...

If they are all alts of one person, that would have to be an incredibly stubborn or certifiably insane individual.  Attempting the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results is considered one of the metrics of insanity, after all.
