6241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 07, 2013, 05:07:33 AM
Met Alex at the Atlanta Bitcoin Conference yesterday.
The miner he had with him was impressively quiet and barely warm.
Looking forward to adding BFGMiner support when my unit gets here Smiley

Hey, Luke, pleasure meeting you in Atlanta, and KnC's miner wasn't at the least warm when I touched it. I'm curious as to what one of those handheld infrared readers would show.

Alex is a great guy! Can't wait to see the pic of him and I.

1F1tAaz5x1HUXrCNLbtMDqcw6o5GNn4xqX should be printed on a t-shirt.

Secondly, what if a poster on said address declared that all his contributions are considered a loan, wouldn't that make it more difficult for the FBI to liquidate the funds IF they do have access to private key?

Great seeing you guys in Atlanta

Were you the guy with the beard? Any pics?  Wink

I'll bump tomorrow with a catch up donation. Staying in Etown, KY, tonight, just south of Lville.
6246  Other / Meta / Re: WOOOOHOOOOO - Bitcointalk.Org Is Back! on: October 07, 2013, 04:32:43 AM
1288 users online already, and climbing! Cheesy
Thanks theymos!

Surely, nobody's going to FTFY by changing one word that rhymes with users and starts with an L, would they?
6247  Other / Meta / Re: WOOOOHOOOOO - Bitcointalk.Org Is Back! on: October 07, 2013, 04:31:04 AM
We should all take a moment to thank Theymos.

I thought it was thermos, at least that's what I read on Reddit.
6248  Other / Off-topic / "Are you alright?" on: October 03, 2013, 12:25:06 AM
Since I've arrived in Atlanta, I've been asked this question at least four times by A-A's donning pants sans belts, thus exposing their underwear. Just so happens I know what the phrase is code for, and am tempting to ask if they accept Bitcoin. The only thing stopping me from doing this now is the fact that SR went dark (no pun intended) and didn't want to open up any healing wounds.

I just remembered something. The phrase is not only used for SR related items but also services they may be running. I wonder if... if... surely not, but wouldn't know until I ask if... if... they can hook me up with one of these:

Just woke from a nap because of being road worry (read tired), hoping that today's drop was just a dream. But, since it ain't, I guess I might as well weigh in at the expense that what I have to pen has already been pennith.

I'm thinkin' the market may have been manipulated, taking advantage of the SR situation. Either I'm a genius, or this has already been addressed. That said, can anybody here help a fellow genius out in figuring out why my computer and phone clocks both are still displaying CST though I'm now in Atlanta?
6250  Economy / Speculation / Re: My $145 resistance / silk road tinfoil hat conspiracy theory. on: October 02, 2013, 11:59:24 PM
Yes, the government shutdown literally happening 24 hours before the SR shutdown seems a tad fishy, I have to admit. I don't see the significance of $145, though.

I've yet to read the main thread on SR going dark, though I commented on it with a quick aside, but this is exactly what went through my mind, seeing an SR/shutdown connection. Thought I'm not one of them, whomever them may me, I listened to NPR while on the road here to Atlanta, and on the entire trip I listened to virtually nothing else but segments on the GS, one devoted to the Panda Cam going dark.

For sake of argument, if they can't keep a Panda Cam running due to lack of funding, then sure enough SR, if it's federally funded, will also go dark. And, if that's the case, and later proven, then the government-run SR was not deemed essential, read national security, thus it too had to have the plug pulled. Again, if that's the case, then they--the powers to be--didn't put enough thought in this here "black" operation, having the wrong arm overseeing it.

Which now begs the question, by chance are there any Bitcoin entities that went dark after the government shutdown? Moreover, any other renown websites (not Bitcoin related) down that we wouldn't have thunk were US government funded?

Interesting thought experiment, to say the least.

Quote
"All told, the site has generated sales revenue totaling over 9.5 million Bitcoins and collected commissions from these sales totaling over 600,000 Bitcoins. Although the value of Bitcoins has varied significantly during the site's lifetime, these figures are roughly equivalent today to approximately $1.2 billion in sales and approximately $80 million in commissions."

Does this mean that 600,000 BTC (give or take) is off the "market"?  Holy crap - if those coins are gone, the value could skyrocket!

6252  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: October 02, 2013, 08:19:06 PM
It just surprises me that they caught him by some random forum posts. Goes to show, it's the simple things that get people caught.

in a previous life i investigated forum posts for a company. Based on their posts, and there were several, and without access to web logs or any IP address or their email I was able to identify every single one of them. People are stupid and talk to much, use same alias everywhere. If you have the time is very easy to track people down, google is your friend

Too bad Tom Williams didn't post on any forums. Wait! Are you Tom Williams?

6254  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: [$1.25] RAFFLE ~ Crypto Currency Conference 2013 ~ $180 USD Prize on: October 02, 2013, 08:05:33 PM
Bump.

In Atlanta now, staying at... (shit, almost give it away).

Remember, it's only $1.25 USD via Bitcoin per ticket to win your admittance fee ($180 USD) to the conference, with all the proceeds going toward Sean's Outpost.

1M72Sfpbz1BPpXFHz9m3CdqATR44Jvaydd

I'm toyin' with the idea of hunting down one of them gallon glass jugs to collect change (only--no bills--preferably only quarters). Toward the end of the conference, the change will be counted and purchased dollar-for-dollar with bitcoins, all of which will be sent to Sean's Outpost Bitcoin address above.

The goal is to confiscate all quarters from the conference-goers, with hopefully somebody will offer up a clue as to how to accomplish said task.

In case you'll haven't figured it out, my intent is to have fun during the event, along with taking away some takeaways. In that vein, since I didn't read any dress code requirements, I took the liberty and purchased a custom, of sorts.

One more thing: It will cost exactly $1.25 USD via Bitcoin to have a photo of you standing next to me, with all proceeds going to... You guessed it!

At the moment I'm in Murfreesboro, TN, arriving in Atlanta later this afternoon. The last one to Atlanta is a rotten egg.
