721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Is The Father After All on: September 20, 2023, 02:54:15 PM
Not because of scarcity (since bitcoin supply is always increasing)
So calling Bitcoin is deflationary is not accurate but many people think about Bitcoin like this.

Quote
Bitcoin price rise actually leads to altcoin dumps but what altcoin trades hope for is that as bitcoin starts rallying it will attract a lot of capital, some part of that capital can also go into the altcoin market and help pump some of the shitcoins they are bag holding.
They hope very high like this but they don't know that market makers will only use their capital to pump altcoins after they finish their jobs with Bitcoin. After gaining profit from Bitcoin bull run, they will use small part of profit to play around with altcoins.

Altcoins must wait months for Bitcoin bull run to complete, to start their own bull runs which are unsustainable. Capital flow into altcoins will be withdrawn very quickly and when bear market comes, altcoins bring most painful losses to investors.

I follow the news via:

They both offer good filters that enable you to know and track all the news you need and thus get better results.
For technical news, I recommend ----> https://bitcoinops.org, in addition to some specialized YouTube channels[1] that you can customize after listening to them and determining the content that is good for you and the content that you consider to be a waste of time.
Other than that, Google gives you everything you need.

You forgot to mention one of best place to get news about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency market as well, it's Bitcointalk.  Cheesy

What news in the world for this market won't be discussed in Bitcointalk. First, visit Wall Observer (WO) thread and get news.
If not, get it around the forum.

Some media websites for people who want to follow news. Honestly I stopped doing this a long time.
723  Other / Meta / Re: There are any words limitations rather than English language ? on: September 19, 2023, 03:48:42 PM
Are you sure? For a long time I thought the limit was 2.5 MB
I used it as an example that it seems theymos or the forum software is keen on using bytes for limit in posts and ad banners.

About ad banners, it is limited in px too (not taller than 47px).
About avatars
Quote
It must be no more than 120px wide, 80px tall, and 100 KiB in size.

About images, you are correct, it is initially at 1.5MB, then increases to 2.5MB.
Images must be less than 1.5MB. Resize or compress your image.

OK, I increased it to 2.5.
724  Other / Meta / Re: The comment layout is awful here on: September 16, 2023, 12:23:01 PM
When I was new to this forum, I was practically suggesting many changes but theymos was adamant to my proposals, little did I know why he was deaf to my proposals and that of many others.
I did not know what you proposed but assume that like many topics in Beginners & Help, proposals can be repeatedly asked by different users.

If you want to propose anything, check Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) to know whether it was proposed before.

theymos does sees what community discuss especially in Meta board but he prioritizes security of forum and users, not new customization or new features even they can be done in SMF forum software. Have to mention many proposed features can not be done with this software. Forum also is lack of human resource to code it.
725  Other / Meta / Re: Merits in WO on: September 16, 2023, 11:19:43 AM
I used pandas , a python library,  to organize LoyceV data. This was the most troubled part. Then I just put data into flourish studio.
Years ago, DdmrDdmr built it for his merit dashboard but after a few months, that platform or package stopped supporting it. He wrote about reasons why he stopped it on his Merit dashboard.

Previously, I thought you did it directly on Flourish studio and wanted to learn it myself but at the end, it is only where you published it. More works behind the scene need to be done and I don't have skills for it.

I saw it on 1miau's merit source application too and he used Google Fusion table.

Wonder why the merit system was introduced in the first place?  Go back to December 2017 in Meta, and you'll probably find that there were a bunch of threads about forum post quality.  It had been a major issue for years prior, but it hit its boiling point right before Theymos dropped the merit system on us in Jan. 2018.
theymos asked community opinion about it, with some possible solutions, one of which is to shut down all signatures in Bitcointalk.
Visually, I know it recalls your pain with shit posting endemic in the past, before the merit system kicks off.
728  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What motivated you to join the forum? on: September 15, 2023, 01:45:01 PM
I can't say for sure, but as far as I remember, signature campaigns existed in 2014 when I first visited the forum, so we can say that they have existed for about 10 years.
Some information for chronological history of signature campaigns in the forum, paid in bitcoin.

729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: percentage of your income you dollar cost average in bitcoin on: September 13, 2023, 01:00:49 PM
A better question is "What is percentage of rest of your income after spending for life expenses to use for DCA in Bitcoin?"

Because it relates to your risk management too. You can not use all your income or 90% of your income if you don't have other source of money to pay life expenses or 10% of your income is not enough for it. If you over DCA, you will face with self-forced selling your bitcoin when you even don't want to do so.

It also relates to your total income as if it is not enough for your life expenses, to survive, you can not DCA so if you say I spend 0% of my income for DCA bitcoin, it sounds very bad but in reality you have no choice if your income is too low. In an opposite case, if a person earn x10 more than you, lives in a same area, but say he spends 0% of his total income for DCA bitcoin, it sucks.
730  Other / Meta / Re: where we can see the forum time? on: September 13, 2023, 12:54:44 PM
See theymos profile.
The local time in theymos profile is 6 hours behind the default forum time.
I learned a new thing!

I knew about time offset and how to set it for my profile local time but I thought it only display in my profile when I login the account. I did not know that other users can see my local time too. I learned it from you today, thanks.  Cheesy
731  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Hosting - MITM (man-in-the-middle) Attack - Paying Cash To Cloudfare on: September 13, 2023, 11:44:51 AM
theymos knew about it but still not find better alternatives.

Thoughts on Cloudflare and denial of service attacks and eventually he decided to use it.

I especially dislike Cloudflare, which I'm almost certain is basically owned by US intelligence agencies. I considered several alternatives to Cloudflare, but the smaller ones (eg. Stackpath and OVH) didn't strike me as reputable/competent enough, and the enterprise-targeted ones like Incapsula and Akamai are around $3500/month. Even though $3500/month seems absolutely ridiculous to me, I was seriously considering Incapsula due to its pretty good reputation, but then they were having all sorts of technical issues while I was trying to set it up. So I gave up for now and went with Cloudflare.

Your mental model should always be that the forum logs everything, especially since it is behind Cloudflare, which is almost certainly an NSA-backed operation.

732  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any code or extension where I can hide the avatar on the top left page? on: September 13, 2023, 11:25:55 AM
There is another method other than the one mentioned by the members above that I sometimes use to hide or show avatars and signatures, but its problem is that it hides all the avatars on the page, not just the avatar on the top left page. This tool can be obtained through this topic:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5178297

It is a Google Chrome extension that has many good options such as hiding/showing avatar, signature, enlarging and reducing font, etc.

The user collected forum user scripts (like some in a topic quoted by TryNinja) to make it. He was very actively to upgrade that application but unfortunately, it is an abandoned project because the user was banned. As I remember he did not make any appeal for his ban.

I really believe a user like this should be given a second chance than many cases recent months broke rules but were not banned at all. It looks like the user still tried to see whether his account got a second chance as last active day is in March 2023. I believed he left the forum after the ban but today, it seems he is still around.
733  Other / Meta / Re: Lottery on the forum, is that allowed? on: September 13, 2023, 11:23:07 AM
You can host it in Games & Rounds.

By mentioning 0.001, I guess you pay in bitcoin so it is allowed by that board rules.

Giveaways and games that pay out altcoins do NOT belong here
734  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Cheapest way to withdraw my money from Coinbase on: September 12, 2023, 02:16:24 PM
You cannot specify the network for USDT because Coinbase does not support any other chains except for ERC-20 for USDT withdrawals.
Are you sure about this?

I did not use Coinbase a long time and forgot my account there, can not check it at the moment but from their FAQs, it seems they support multiple chains for both deposits and withdrawals.

Multiple blockchain network assets on Coinbase Exchange.
Not sure why they did not mention USDT there, only USDC.
Quote
Your funds will automatically be deposited into the same account, regardless of which network they were deposited from. For example, if you deposit ETH from the Polygon network, it will be deposited into your ETH balance. At the time of withdrawal, the asset will be fungible (mutually interchangeable) across all supported blockchains. In this example, you could withdraw ETH to the Ethereum or Polygon network.

USDT is currently available on Coinbase wallet. More detailed instructions on how to buy USDT with Coinbase wallet. According to this instruction, they only support USDT on ERC20.

736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What type of advice is worth giving such people? on: September 11, 2023, 12:00:57 PM
I have read some painful stories online about Bitcoin fans that lost their Bitcoin to hacks more than once and how they gave up because of the hacks, this made me curious about people on the forum, I will like to ask you guys how many times you have lost Bitcoin to hacks or your own mistakes, and why are you still not giving up.

Can you keep buying bitcoin if you have already get hacked like twice or more in the past?
If what they lost is not their whole life savings and they won't able to work or do anything to get new capital to buy bitcoin again, it's fine, they can restart their investment journey again.

So let's return to a famous saying "Only invest what you can afford to lose!"

Before restarting, they must spend time to think of their past mistakes, learn more, find advice from technical experts or good free resources, and improve their practice with bitcoin, from storage to broadcast transactions.

What advice is worth passing out to people who have lost their Bitcoin more than once and are on the hedge of giving up?

737  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Etoro wallet pending transaction 28days on: September 09, 2023, 11:47:41 AM
If etoro is just firing everyone's transactions at 1 sat/vbyte without checking the fee estimation, then they might as well grind the whole exchange to a stop until the mempool clears up all of the pending transactions.
As an exchange, if their staffs who are responsible for broadcasting user withdrawals, setting transactions with that fee rate is unbelievable as they did not mind what's happening in mempools.

Checking eToro information about withdrawal for cryptocurrency, I feel weird.

Crypto Transfer
Quote
Coin transfer fee 2% of the transaction size

How long does it take to transfer crypto to the eToro Money crypto wallet?

It can take up to five business days for eToro to process the transfer request. We may ask you for further documents in some cases. From the moment that the request is processed, it can also take additional time for the coins to appear in the wallet. Furthermore, please note that there may be further delays in the execution of transfer requests.

Note: Requests are not processed on weekends and/or national holidays.

This is because all transfers are subject to a manual review. After the transaction is completed on our side, the length of time depends on the blockchain and is beyond eToro’s control.
Five business days, don't work on weekends or holidays, and they don't care what happened after they broadcast a transaction. They consider their job to serve their customers is done after broadcasting, in your case, it's with 1 sat/byte.

Who will use eToro?

Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts

Hello! I want to develop a mobile application Bitcoin forum app store. What do you think?
You can do it as your big exercise.  Cheesy

As a user, I don't want to download and explorer your application because I am fearful with potential malwares or things that can hack my device, wallets.

This application with some extensions, user scripts was a dead project. Did you want to make a new version of it?

740  Other / Meta / Re: Simplified view of bitcointalk. on: September 08, 2023, 10:41:07 PM
If you are posting only with a phone, tough luck, Bitcointalk won't give you too much pleasure. But if you are combining a mobile device with your desktop, it can be used for the occasional post here and there. You could, for example, write your posts without quoting and doing much editing from your phone, and when you are back on your desktop device, you edit the posts properly.
If you are serious when using phone or if mostly have to use phone to type on Bitcointalk, like some people shared they don't have good chance to access computer, you can use a Bluetooth keyboard. It is a good combination between phone and classic key board and very helpful when you want to type more accurately and quickly.

The cons is still hard for editing quotes.
