7241  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A cautionary tale about HW wallets from resellers on: January 14, 2018, 11:08:37 AM
The first time you use it, you are supposed to read the website to know how it works with the tutorials. If I remember you can't do anything without reading the site. Doing it he could guess something is wrong. Never I will buy outside the official website without to generate a new seed.
Sad for this guy :/
7242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should we support altcoins ? on: January 14, 2018, 10:55:20 AM
An alternative is needed, it is safe. On the other hand, how would exchange trading work if it were not for altcoin?

That is right, it is not that bad to trade other digital currencies besides bitcoin, also imagine trading only bitcoin in exchanges, do you think it will be a good trade? Just trading BTC to USD and vice versa, that is pretty boring and I don't think that will attract more traders or investors. Also, not all people are that kind of attracted to bitcoin, some of them are also attracted to some alternative coins just like Ethereum and XRM.

Forgot the speculative side, because it's not the primary purpose to create a coin. Focus on the basic advantages we get. I am a strong Bitcoin believer but I also think some altcoins are needed. The coins focused on privacy such as Monero, Zencash, Cloackcoin, etc. It helps where Bitcoin is not good at, and believe it or not the anon coins will be a lot of more soon.
7244  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: January 14, 2018, 10:25:57 AM
The website is performing far better than what we used to see, especially in December. This morning the site is loading better than yesterday and working as we should except. Now awaiting to have all the features back fully.

Update - The system is performing and services are stable. There are minor issues being addressed (thank you for the reports). All funds remain secure as we continue preparations for withdrawal activation. We're continuing to closely monitor all services.

Yep, Payoneer doesn't allow transactions related to "digital currencies". However, people may try to use LocalBitcoin to sell Bitcoin for Payoneer, if the funds come from a person and not a company related to cryptos, it may work.

ViaBuy.com started recently to accept deposits with Bitcoin (using Bitpay). You get a dedicated IBAN with a Mastercard and can send and receive SEPA transfers. It's a prepaid service similar to Advcash. (of course, you will need to be a verified customers)
7246  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rise, Fall, steady, why Bitcoin is solid at $14,000 ish right now in my opinion on: January 13, 2018, 11:50:07 PM
I wouldn't say all the altcoins are being dumped, when you look at Coinmarketcap https://coinmarketcap.com/ it's mixed generally speaking.
I don't think we will see a big change for this month.
7247  Economy / Economics / Re: [BREAKING NEWS , EVERYBODY DO THIS IF YOU WANT BTC TO MOON ]!! on: January 13, 2018, 11:33:32 PM
Wtf. What a cringe wonderful and productive email you are sending...

"CMON!! CODE LIGHTINING RIGHT NOW AND GIV ME LAMBOS!!!!!"

Do you think spamming someone will make them "write code" 10x faster? You are actually making their jobs harder. Make us a favor and stop.

I don't respect the opinion of strangers.

Then don't post on a forum if you can't respect people's opinion. You are on a forum where everyone can post what they think about a topic.
You are not on facebook where you can set the privacy settings so only some persons will see your opinions/posts...
I agree with him by the way, totally useless...totally..
7248  Other / Serious discussion / Re: 2-Factor Authentication on: January 13, 2018, 11:19:44 PM
If you care about your privacy you shouldn't use any Google's product, no matter how good they are. It's how the company make its income, using your privacy.... Who knows if in 10 years we learn that in fact, it was another shady product
I have read Authy is far better than Google Authenticator.

You can use a USB like U2F Zero as long you don't lose it you're good to go https://www.u2fzero.com/
... and it's open source https://github.com/conorpp/u2f-zero
7249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google results show more people searching for Bitcoin than gold on: January 13, 2018, 09:46:58 PM
This show that Bitcoin is attracting more people attention which is a good news. We can expect to see the marketcap growing again.

No, it means people already know what is gold so there is no use to google it. In the opposite, a very small percentage of people know about Bitcoin and so they use a search engine to see what it is exactly, how it works etc. Doesn't mean they are looking to buy some bitcoins....
7250  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-1-13] Kraken Down Nearly 48 Hours, Gives Engineers Time to ‘Rest' on: January 13, 2018, 09:18:27 PM
@1Referee

I think all the popular exchanges got problems during the past year. Kraken with an outdated engine, Bitfinex DDOS'ed, Poloniex down for updates, Bittrex becoming ridiculous, another one stopping to deal with US customers (Bitfinex or Bitstamp?). BTC-e....
Look at Binance recently forced to close registration and can't even add servers since their account hits daily the max servers allowed by AWS

7252  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Has anyone sold BTC won here in sig campaigns? how does tax work? on: January 13, 2018, 07:35:09 PM
Capital gains tax and Income tax are different

Capital gains tax: you invested money and you got a profit

Income tax: the system is based on "Trust". You report xxxxx$ per year, the institution trust you, they won't ask you to prove. But if by any chance they find out you cheated (whatever the method used), they won't forget you, and it is at this moment they will ask you some proofs (taxes control or fiscal control)

When you're working in a manufactory you don't give proofs of your income, right?. It's the same as a freelancer. You can't give them your Skype conversations, emails, etc showing you make an agreement with someone that you don't even know the name. It's the same, it's based on Trust

Also, you can always give your history from an exchange if they ask for proofs, that's why you can download a CSV file on exchanges.

As for the guy on Reddit, any decent bank will freeze or terminate your account when you receive such a big amount
7253  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: January 13, 2018, 07:06:41 PM
Guys, everything is on the Kraken's blog https://blog.kraken.com/post/1449/kraken-returns-with-free-trading/
What is operational and what isn't, what about the deposits etc. I guess they still need time to get back the website fully operational. You can consider to wait up to Monday at least.
So far I haven't seen any 5xx error page which is exceptional Grin
7254  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you think that bitcoin can reduce corruption? on: January 13, 2018, 06:39:30 PM
The Blockchain will be more used than Bitcoin regarding fighting the corruption. Honduras is a country giving the perfect example. The country’s land registry ledger system is based on a blockchain. Before that, the system was hacked very often and people were getting a land for free.

You can use the blockchain technology for almost everything, the only problem is the size so in the long run, it can require a huge amount of storage

I have more hopes for the blockchain technology than Bitcoin, when it's about help the world

7256  Economy / Economics / Re: Walmart is raising wages and giving bonuses, citing corporate tax cuts on: January 13, 2018, 11:27:57 AM
I am not able to understand, where is the fun if only people working for over 20 years are eligible for this bonus? And if Walmart is raising wages from $9 (?) to $11 but at the same time closing 63 Sam's Club stores. It looks like only good for the company but nothing for the workers.
7257  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KRAKEN down for 24 hours!! Worst exchange ever for me... on: January 13, 2018, 10:56:41 AM
@mayax

You have to consider and admit a site like Kraken can be more convenient for some people. For example, with Kraken you can withdraw to your bank account without giving any documents. For me an example I would be happy to send ID documents if it's really needed but I can't, my ID card is considered as not valid because the date expired but the govt. consider it as valid since it changed a law, so no use to change it.
Additionally, there are surely a lot of coins that can't be traded on the website you mentioned.

@backback

Then what? Aren't we allowed to complain or to be worried about our funds? We all know exchanges own the private keys. So what, if it happens with your bank you're not allowed to complain because you don't the money?
7258  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin Price will go up or down? on: January 13, 2018, 08:56:00 AM
Yesterday I have read an article that talked about the value of bitcoin, saying that the price will rise sharply in January and February. Because we are in a period where traders are receiving their dividends from last year and a large part of them will invest in bitcoin with it.
Their dividends are often around $100,000 or more, so if it turns to be right and we see a lot of them investing in cryptos it will surely help

update

Quote
We will be working through the weekend to get the site back up as soon as possible. Yes, this upgrade is for our trading engine which will reduce the amount of 5xx errors. It is taking so long because we want to make sure the upgrade is rolled out safely.
As for that update, we fully understand the serious nature of this upgrade. Our dev team was working for 20+ hours straight at the time of that post, and may have been a result of sleep depravation.

Wonderful, now we need to scrape Reddit to get a news, we have nothing on status.kraken.com or twitter.
We now enter into a treasure hunt

You can always give it a try, especially if you don't have any other options, but don't be optimistic, to be honest
