761  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitfloor down? on: February 15, 2014, 08:24:59 AM
Hm....you notice you have bumped an old thread, right?

How can we delete the alerts and stop receiving the emails now that the site has shut down? Unfortunately I've been getting an under $500 alert every hour for several days now and have no way to stop it.

Anyway, just put all those emails to your spam folder Smiley
762  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The worst ever that could happen on: February 15, 2014, 08:23:03 AM
Anyone here remember the disaster that happened with them? Was a while ago and too bad for them, their service kicked ass.

You can find the details here.

Another Bitcoin Wallet Service, Instawallet, Suffers Attack, Shuts Down Until Further Notice:

763  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet Question on: February 15, 2014, 08:14:58 AM
New BTC adapter here.  I'm waiting to get verified by coinbase.  I was planning on using there online wallet to store my bitcoins but with all the news last week I see some people are saying not to store your BTC online.  Do you guys think it is safe?  Otherwise I guess I'll download the bitcoin wallet app for android but what happens if I brake my phone are my bitcoins gone?

I'm not sure about Coinbase, but with Blockchain.info you can get your wallet back up emailed to you or just download it yourself. I'm sure you can just log in to Coinbase online as well.

The "wallet" on Coinbase and bc.i work in a completely different way.
In coinbase (or other exchanges and gambling sites), you do not have any control of the private keys of your "deposit addresses".
In bc.i, you have the sole control of the private keys. You never need to send your private key to the server.
764  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A Gambling Project on: February 15, 2014, 08:09:19 AM
Put a limit!

Let everyone have a fair chance!

for example limit the number of entries to 10!

Can u please tell me how does it go against someone's fair chance ? If one does 50 entry, he's also susceptible to lose a bigger amount and even if he win, he'll actually win in lesser %. Is not it ? Please correct me if I have misunderstood the game. And yes, launch it fast. This is going to be the 1st game depending on blockchain data to decide the winner. Gonna be interesting. Smiley
If you take a look at peerbet.org raffles you will see a lot of people are spaming this thing and make raffles with unlimited entries/person

for example:
pot is 0.1 and one ticket costs 0.0001
this raffle will need 1000 participants
they buy 999 tickets and wait for someone to spend 0.0001 so that they can win it
and they make like thousand of raffles like this
if you make unlimited entries and you let us see how many people sent money to that raffles i doubt someone will just give away 0.01 just because someone spent 0.99

It is still fair, for both "spending 0.0001 and have a chance of 0.1% to get back 0.1" and "spending 0.0999 and have a chance of 99.9% to get back 0.1".

And don't forget, OP is planning to have a positive house edge.
So, if you buy 99% of the tickets, you are guaranteed to lose lol.  Wink
765  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying Wholesale Bitcoins Fastest Option on: February 15, 2014, 08:04:30 AM
Check localbitcoins You can also buy coins in the marketplace here. Have you checked the other exchanges? I'm sure there's some that don't need ID.

+1 to https://localbitcoins.com/, I have used them and its super quick, minutes to get your BTC

If OP really want to buy "large quantities" of bitcoin (say, 1000btc), localbitcoins may not be the best option.

766  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will The Government Ever Find a way to Regulate Bitcoin? on: February 15, 2014, 07:49:51 AM
Perhaps they might be able to regulate exchanges that convert bitcoin to fiat or which deal with financial instruments (options, futures, etc.), but it is hard to see them regulating bitcoin itself.

That's how they'll do it.

As long as you keep things p2p, it will be very hard for governments to regulate....maybe except for Florida  Smiley
767  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction Malleability News? on: February 15, 2014, 07:28:42 AM
Anyone know where to look for the most instant news source on transaction malleability?

Maybe #bitcoin-dev IRC / bitcointalk / bitcoin foundation blog
768  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT BITCOINS! MUST READ! on: February 15, 2014, 07:25:18 AM
Their description of a Ponzi scheme is wrong.

Quote
A Ponzi scheme is a form of fraud in which the first investors pay later investors to continue an illusion for a non-existent enterprise.

lol, it's the other way around.

It seems OP hasn't read odolvlobo's post yet...
769  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best place to buy litecoin in the uk ? on: February 15, 2014, 07:19:43 AM
Anyone know of where to buy in Australia?

No matter you are from UK or Australia or some other places, you could try localbitcoins to find traders near you.
770  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CoinLearn.org is among free faucet list from Examiner.com on: February 15, 2014, 07:04:36 AM

771  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: For newbies - Is cex.io a good investment? on: February 15, 2014, 06:59:24 AM
For good investment, buy ghs in cex.io or buy mining hardware and connect to btc guild?

Neither.
For profitability, build a GPU rig to mine scrpyt-based coins and sell them for bitcoin.

what "mine scrpyt-based coins" can you give more info?

Coins like bitcoin and namecoin are sha256-based.
Coins like litecoin and dogecoin are scrypt-based (sorry for my typo in the previous post).

Unlike sha256, scrypt hashing is memory-intensive, and thus it is much harder to build scrypt ASIC.
We may have some scrypt ASIC later this year, but until then almost all of the hashrate are from GPUs.
Thus, you could still get decent revenue mining scrypt altcoins with your GPUs.
thanks for info

You are welcome Smiley
Have fun mining Smiley
772  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Absolutely no way to recover wallet password? on: February 15, 2014, 06:56:41 AM

Some common problems to try:

When you initially set up your password, it is possible that you either hit or released a shift key too soon or too late. With this error, "thisPassword" could accidentally be entered as any of the following:

"thiSPassword"

OMG, you ARE a hero - thanks a lot, I thought it was lost - I'm new and not exactly rich.

Congrats OP.
Great to hear you get back your bitcoin Smiley
773  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice to Newbies.....from a Newbie! on: February 15, 2014, 06:51:08 AM
From a newb that just wasted a few hours on faucets and was looking for , what's next?
Thanks for this.

If you are asking what do  to next after wasting time on faucets, well it depends.  If you have some money available I would buy BTC or LTC, I buy my BTC through Coinbase and transfer it to BTC-E to exchange into LTC.  I personally am going to wait through the day to see what the price does.....obviously its been going down lately so Im just curious how far this dip will go.

If you have a good PC at home to do some mining, try to mine some Primecoin through ypool.  I have a few PCs both at work at home doing this so use a primecoin calculator to make calculate how much youll make.

There is always selling a good on the marketplace for BTC, like an old Xbox or something (I tried this, but didnt work yet).

There are options.  The easiest is straight up buying it low now, but try to be creative.

Pretty much agree with Steven.
Apart from buying bitcoin directly, mining CPU-only coins with your CPU, mining scrypt coins with your GPU, selling goods for bitcoin, you can also try selling services for bitcoin and enter some signature ad program.  Smiley
774  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cannot buy and sell Bitcoin. How to do this? on: February 15, 2014, 06:45:47 AM
Finally, a bitcoin exchange answered my questions. Vinny K at Camp Bx picked up and answered my questions. I will use CampBx and not use Coinbase even though I registered with Coinbase because they don't care enough about their customers to answer the phone. Coinbase never answered my emails after 48 hours and they don't have a phone nor live chat. Coinbase's auto verification process also doesn't work.

CampBx also has reasonable fees, too.

Thanks for all your suggestions, guys.

 Cheesy

Just a friendly reminder, don't forget to enable 2FA for better security. Smiley
775  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Low hash rate? on: February 15, 2014, 06:43:40 AM
Thanks for correcting me..
I find that I often mix up KH/s and MH/s ...
yes my i5 is right around 20KH/s
 Grin

I see.

BTW, comparing with cpu-mining scrypt coins, I guess you could get better results with cpu-only coins.

Bitstamp and Mt Gox are not allowing withdrawals.

Please refer to the following two blog entries by Gavin for details.

777  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are faucets the route to go for a newb with no money? on: February 14, 2014, 07:16:25 AM
In regards to your question. You can always suck some dick. Smiley

Hmm...I guess that falls into the category of selling service for bitcoin.  Cheesy

How much BTC would that get my broke ass? lol

You better discuss that privately with Gamer67  lol Tongue
778  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello forumz on: February 14, 2014, 07:13:04 AM
Code:
waittime = 360;
if(activity >= 15)
        waittime = (int)(90 - activity);
if(activity >= 60)
        waittime=(int)(34.7586 - (0.0793103 * activity));
if(activity >= 100)
        waittime = max((int)(14-(activity/50)), 4);

I basically can't reply in any way if my activity is below 15.
I can't even reply to the post on my own thread Sad

Hm....you do need to wait patiently for 360second for every post for the first 2 weeks. Smiley
After all, we need to have some measures to prevent spamming Smiley
779  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin 15% a Month Investment Opportunity on: February 14, 2014, 07:10:31 AM

Potentially even bitcoin can be scam. It can close website and all people having money in it - will lose it.

All of us must withdraw bitcoins from the site, or IT CAN CLOSE website and we loose all the bitcoins.
I propose to sign the petition and forward it to bitcoin asking not to close the site.

The only question to the topic starter, which site we should be aware of closing?

You are always suggested to not hold bitcoin on those exchanges/gambling sites.
The reason is simple: If you don't have sole control of the private keys, you don't control the bitcoin.
780  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is falling(What's your strategy?) on: February 14, 2014, 07:08:03 AM
I would just hodl my bitcoin, and probably buy some cheap bitcoin  Smiley
IMHO, this is just another panic-selling...
