I wouldn't expect lowering it to 12 hours to make much difference, somthing like 4 hours on the other hand, might get quite competitive.

There is lots that can be done once they have access to the server itself that your approach wouldn't block though
764  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is my money safe at Mt. Gox on: September 14, 2011, 11:52:49 PM
Is there any proof the forum attack actually did anything more than just defacing the forum?

MTgox is fun, always get so many emails about it :3

thats a fishing site, not mtgox. see url mtgcx.tk

How did the fishing site get this poster's info?
From the database leak that happened a little while ago?

766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Stupidly moved wallet.dat while bitocin was still running {not fixed!) on: September 14, 2011, 11:36:10 PM
You didn't delete your wallet file though, right?
767  Other / Off-topic / Re: Last post to this thread wins 1btc! (no deposit necessary) on: September 14, 2011, 11:19:28 PM
Hm, so the point is to be the last one before the lock? Interesting...
768  Other / Off-topic / Re: Last post to this thread wins 1btc! (no deposit necessary) on: September 14, 2011, 10:39:22 PM
A while ago, back when the forum hadn't been moved yet, threads like this were getting locked quite fast...
769  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Bitcoin Apocalypse 1BTC trading under $5 USD on: September 14, 2011, 10:37:12 PM
It will bounce back up, you'll see.
770  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Stupidly moved wallet.dat while bitocin was still running {not fixed!) on: September 14, 2011, 10:33:36 PM
You didn't have any recent backups of the wallet, did you?
771  Other / Off-topic / Re: Last post to this thread wins 1btc! (no deposit necessary) on: September 14, 2011, 10:30:37 PM
Are threads like this allowed?

E=MC2
Nuff said.
I believe you mean E=mc˛ (or using the forum's markup, E=mc2)
774  Other / Meta / Re: Info about the recent attack on: September 14, 2011, 07:13:16 AM

775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Possible false alarm: MtGox break in on: September 14, 2011, 07:04:30 AM
Was this a mtgox session hijack from the forum hack?  Were you logged into mtgox when the forum hack occurred?

That would be interesting if it was related.
Wouldn't it be possible that some of the code injected in the forum during the attack included somthing that would do some nastiness if you had 'gox opened in another tab?
776  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: C++ mining library to build into computer games? on: September 14, 2011, 04:26:00 AM
Probably a good idea to be clear from the start that the game comes with software that will run in the background performing calculations for your benefit; dunno if it would be necessary to talk about Bitcoin itself, but people will find out eventually, so keep that in mind.

778  Other / Off-topic / Re: Know Thy Enemy of the Bitcoin - Message from Somethingawful to everyone here on: September 14, 2011, 03:44:05 AM
I am not understanding.

1. What is something awful forums all about.
A bunch of things i guess
2. Why the hell do they put effort into hurting bitcoin.
'Cause they enjoy watching people squirm as they poke them, perhaps?
3. Why are the freemasons coming up.
Beats me, something about conspiracy theories i imagine.
4. Why is disneyland in this thread.
See previous answer.

Seriously I cant rap my head around trolling, I guess for money maybe. An explanation would be nice.
The human being is a complex and awkward creature.
779  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mentioned at congressional hearing. on: September 14, 2011, 02:20:08 AM
Did he really meant Bitcoin, or was it just "bit coins" as a generic term for digital currencies without him even knowing about Bitcoin itself?
780  Other / Off-topic / Re: Know Thy Enemy of the Bitcoin - Message from Somethingawful to everyone here on: September 14, 2011, 12:40:30 AM
Stop provoking them, please? I don't wanna have to spend another afternoon trying to find what to do instead of reading the forum...
