901  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Secure | MultiSend | liteStake | Coin Control on: April 14, 2015, 04:28:39 PM
I was wondering where the dive came from, that sure was a hit for HYP. unfortunately as I am watching the cryptsy market I still feel something else may be going on, I can understand the 700,000 emergency dump, but it really does seem someone out there is purposely trying to hold this price down to 100 sat. Unless its just the normal panic sellers falling in play. If it is panic sellers, it only enables all of us to make good staking positions on thier panic sell offs Smiley

I am having some issues on Cryptsy with a couple withdraws right now Sad I hope its not like my last problem that has been 29 days and 4 hours and still they have not corrected the issue. 29 days is a long time to wait on HYP considering it could mature and stake (maybe even stake twice) in that amount of time. Sad I have a bunch of HYP still in my cryptsy account I wont send until these other withdraws go thru. Cryptsy has a bad habit of making you pay for their mistakes. For example, I had a deposit on another coin and when they did maintenance on their wallet I am assuming they had not backed up their wallet.dat file correctly and lost the wallet address my coins came thru on and because of their mistake I am the one who lost those coins, they absorbed absolutely no cost for their mistake.

EDIT: HAHA as I was writing this those deposits started flowing right thru now HAHAHA thank the crypto gods for that one I was a bit nervous, I had over 100,000 HYP in stuck withdraws LOL

It would be nice if there is a big sell like that the seller could give a little bit of notice to the community so we can try and come together and absorb the hit, maybe even go as far as make the sell/buys thru a HYP escrow off the market so not to panic the other day trading HYP traders. a 700,000 dump like that could have effects in the millions actually after the panic sellers are through. Just my thoughts.

I frequently talk with Cryptsy's main wallet guy, and I can assure you that there was no malice involved. They had a very major server failure, and it took some time to set things right. I've been assured that no private keys were lost, but a lot of time was lost in getting things straight. These are pretty serious players, too. They had deliberate attack well covered, but missed that one thing Tongue It happens to the best of us, and they do learn from their disasters. I also know, because we were conversing at the time, that the man I'm speaking of put in a couple of extremely long days trying to get everything back on track. And he works on a straight salary. Occasionally Mr. Murphy wins, even with the best of planning.

The situation with the coin  I am talking about happened  25 days before the recent server failure. I had netcoins stuck during that server failure but they came thru just fine afterwards. I had another coin 25 days before the server failure never made it to my cryptsy account but made it to the cryptsy wallet, the wallet then went into maintenance and then out of maintenance and I still had not gotten my coins, now it is back in maintenance, so that means if the wallet was in sync the address my coins went to were not on that wallet.dat, thus I lose, they refuse to respond to the ticket anymore. were now over 30 days on that ticket. I sent them the TXIDs I sent them the actual withdraw statement and a screenshot of the cryptsy depositing address in my account, they have more than enough proof to see the coins were deposited into a cryptsy depositing address, and that the coins made it there. but I dont have my coins Sad

That's fucked up.

I'll forward this message. I have no real affiliation, I just know the guy. Maybe he can help.
902  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin 500% PoS/PoW hybrid SuperStake on: April 14, 2015, 07:48:44 AM
I just want to mention a VERY important security update for the next wallet release:

When I go to unlock my wallet for pos, there is no switch to "unlock for pos only", so the only way to stake is to FULLY unlock the wallet, which is VERY unsafe! Also once the wallet is fully unlocked, if you click on wallet, there is no "lock wallet option. These are MAJOR security issues, please make update soon.

Vegas

Did you try "walletlock" ?

I am not sure "walletlock" is a good idea.
A week an a half ago when the difficulty was really high, I decided to use "walletlock" to lock my wallet, so that it wouldn't stake while I was at work.
When I got home, my wallet was locked, but it was staking.  When I had left in the morning I had 3 groups of coins that could stake while I was at work.  When I got home, I had 2 groups staking, and one was just gone...I quickly exited the wallet and restarted it.  It was then locked for real, and when the difficulty went down I unlocked it for real and everything worked fine.

walletlock and walletpassphrase commands are a REALLY bad idea, because the viruses that steal coins take screen shots, and email them to the hacker. The devs know this, and are aware of this issue, and it will require a wallet update, that will need some time.

Vegas

This can be mitigated in several ways. Personally, I use a script stored on a usb stick to run the command at command line level, and then I plug in the ethernet cord again. keyloggers only work on pressed keys. Seeing ^c and ^v in your keylog isn't terribly useful. Another useful trick is to run two sets of the blockchain (using -datadir and nonstandard ports on the sencond chain, and only connecting to that chain from your main wallet. Adds a layer of abstraction.

Security is tough, no matter what. It's a bit easier with the daemon, especially under Linux, but it's still a process.

EDIT: The best way to prevent staking is to put the "reservebalance" line in your configuration with like a million coins. Then, when you're ready to stake either kill it by console command, or comment it out in your configuration file and then restart the client.

still nothing to show except a new thread nice job guys

I am quite inclined to bite your head off...

but that's not constructive. Instead, I'll simply ask what YOU are doing or would like to see done to get this ball rolling. We spent quite some time making sure y'all have a stable client to work with, a working and correct block explorer (that was me), and gathering personnel to take things forward. Rome wasn't built in a day, but it burned in not much more than that. It is far easier to destroy something than build, or rebuild it.
i would like to see it being used already its been a year this is crypto you cant take this long as you can see there is only a few people left that are interested me being 1 but its just takeing to long show us somthing or the campaigne will start

Fair enough. I know little of the history of the coin, only that a friend of mine invited me to be on the team after it was taken over by a new development team. The mechanics of the coin are good, now, but had pretty serious problems when I joined. I am of the opinion, given that it's a new team and a rebranding, that we are better off taking it a bit slow and gathering a solid basis for future development before announcing all sorts of goals. It is far better to under promise and over deliver than to make wild claims and then fail. Slow and steady wins marathons. The sprints that matter are over.

I apologise for my tone earlier. I'm not generally a mean person, but I put about all of my spare time into this project, and I'm a very busy man. So it came across rather personal. I reacted in kind. I can only plead a bad day and being tired. We are working on a number of things now that the mechanics of the coin are up to date and working well. I'm not in charge of the project, so it's neither my intention nor my place to say what they are. But rest assured, we're not sitting around.

On that note, there is not one of us on the development team that would stand in the way of community members doing their own development and promotion, in partnership with us or on their own.

EDIT: the wording above looks like I did the fixing Tongue I helped, but only as a guinea pig. Coinsolidation did the majority of the code work, if not all of it. I'm uncertain on that. I built a block explorer and am building a pool. I also have a background in management and marketing, so I am helping the main team on that level.

Wallet staked a few days back, now it says almost all my balance is "Staked" and it's out of sync

I always have my wallet up and running, 24/7 - I thought it helped with the network.

So ... your saying I've got to reload the whole blockchain now?

I don't know why it would have been out of sync, it never goes offline.

I've seen this once with the older client. Not sure what happened, and it was a long time ago, but before resynching, try running repairwallet AFTER restarting your client. If that don't work, then, yes, you'll need to resync. That unfortunately can take several hours.

Due to multiple issues unrelated to GMC, I was unable to complete the new pool in a timely manner. It's still being done, and I will keep y'all updated. It is my hope to have it deployed by monday, but I cannot guarantee this at the moment. The problems I'm having are in real life, not with the actual pool set up Cheesy

Hope your problems aren't too serious. Take care Smiley

Thanks. Nope, not too serious, just very time consuming Tongue I have three children, the youngest just two months old, and her sister is just over a year. The newborn is quite demanding and her sister is teething. Runnin' me crazy. Plus my job has gotten nuts just lately (see the first link in my sig).

this coins has screwed around so much are they ever going to actually release anything?

Yer late. See the post above yours. We have released a new wallet, it fixes the forking issues and works good. Working on a lot of stuff in the background. Not currently at liberty to say what, as much of it is still in the idea stage and/or negotiation stage, but yes, we're working on it. Heavily.

ever look at cryptonite?

probably not a good idea to destroy data in the age of information. i think it can be very useful (and in some cases even necessary) to have a possibility to trace transactions deep into the abyss. that's why the blockchain is also called the distributed ledger. imho, the security of cryptonite's mini-blockchain is doubtful. new coins are matured instantly and no confirmations of transactions can be made (it simplifies the task of an alternative chain creation). one of possible workarounds for us could be some blockchain compression or a light version of the wallet which uses the merkle root for transaction confirmations as in bitcoin's MultiBit.

I for one don't really care about destruction of data, it's probably even a bit of a good thing as it can add to the anonymity and decentralized nature of the Blockchain. Blockchain compression can only go so far, for something to really be infinitely self sustaining it should work like a rolling Blockchain where old data is pruned off otherwise you still have the growing ledger. I am pretty sure that a multi-bit like wallet using the merkle root only isn't able to Stake (or atleast not currently).

I agree, but the nature of crypto is not only in anonymity (there are also other ways to hide transaction history rather than just simply erase it), in the ideal world there will be no need in anonymity Cheesy The idea of the blockchain is something that can be saved in centuries hermetically sealed, it opens a road for extension of its functionality to let it go beyond money transfer. If it is the trade-off to save some disk space, I predict that in few years even 100 GB blockchain won't be a problem (Moore's law is still actual), with all it's synchro hashing work. So a compression or some harmless truncation (or full-blockchain master nodes, in the case of the multibit-like light wallet which can ask for a piece of the blockchain to be able to stake) can be a temporary solution to release back the full power of the blockchain later.

I'm divided on this, but mostly I fall to the side of keep the data forever.

I also suspect that storage won't be a huge issue going forward. HDD's just keep getting bigger, and SSD are getting bigger, cheaper, and more efficient as well. Plus, there are things like Electrum, though I think at present it couldn't work for staking coins. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that, because a thin client for Hyp would kick ass.

I heard PandaCoin had a lite Client a while back along with quick-sync.

I'm more along the lines that there will be many different types of Coins so although hard drives are getting bigger, you also have more Blockchains to run so it doesn't hold up to moore's law when you are holding hundreds of different Coins.

True enough, but how long do you think that will go on? I suspect that less than a dozen coins will survive that long. Most come and go rather quickly, offering really nothing new and the devs lose interest and/or pull a runner with a premine. I follow a lot of coins, but only maintain about five blockchains, one of which is NOT BTC because of Electrum Cheesy

I don't hate Islam

I hate the psychotic hoards that have hijacked it as a justification for their insanity.

I hate nearly as much the mute millions that stand by and do nothing about it.

And every bit as much those that justify it, by whatever circuitous methods.

Pretty well sums up a lot of us.

Me, I don't hate Islam any more than I hate other religions. Theistic religions allow their adherents to claim an absolute moral high ground because their Sky Daddy is on their side.

Of course they have exactly the same proof for the existence of their deity that I have. None.

Yes, we did Cheesy We are not another hobby company.

Could you tell us if it was under pain of death?

OT: Does anyone remember 'E-Machine' computers, $299 desktops what a POS Smiley
I still have one working almost continuously since 2003/2004. Around 2012/2013 I tried to order replacement parts (mechanical, cracked plastic) and I found out that many places are still using it. Gateway may be still providing support for them.

Runs Bitcoin & Litecoin just fine, although mine was way more expensive.

I love E-machines, and their predecessor, Packard-bell.

They were cheap, nasty pieces of slap-dash assembly that usually got thrown in the dumpster by about the end of six months, wherein I retrieved them and used the components for various frankenstein builds Cheesy Still have several of them lying about, all working (when i want them to). Out of the box they were essentially worthless. Out of the dumpster? Priceless!

I have Core2 Duo T6400.
The wallet is completely synchronized and loads the processor for 32%.
That is very weird.

I run several wallets, and HYP is usually the lowest CPU load, except when it's synchronizing. It ain't as heavy on that as Bitcoin, but it does load it fast and furious. Usually is under 1%. This is for ubuntu, though, I have no idea how well it performs under Windows or OSX. I'm running a four core AMD walmart special, and frequently have 10+ wallets open without issue. Something is not right with your setup.

I am going to try real hard to give a beta version of my explorer wallet tomorrow. It will be closed source. I am still having trouble getting my reindexing commands to work exactly how I want them too Cry so the beta version might now have functional reindexing.

Just finished moving....

Ok, Not finished, but closer than government work Tongue I'd love to be on the test list. I'm supposed to have good high speed internet hooked up tomorrow. We'll see if CenturyLink can keep an appointment.
