$150 Cad wasn't really that good of a deal. Its at least still over 3 months ROI, and then its the halving and will probably only make like $20/month with free power.

Its actually the most that I have ever paid for a Bitcoin miner.

Well thats 2.5months ROI on free electricity. Compared to GPUs right now its not really good but still. On free electricity this is not a bad deal at all if you are on free electricity. If you pay, then not sure.
902  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I want to mine on my Oven' NEMA 14-50r on: February 26, 2016, 02:04:53 AM
It's been a interesting read and sounds like project is going well.  Which is cool news.

Once you do get a miner plugged into it please share  a picture.  I would love to see how it comes out.

Hopefully, it won't be a picture of a Bonfire. I'll probably start plugging the AMTubes and if everything goes well i'll take a pic and think of what to add next. I'm guessing the GPUs rigs would be a good pic since they would be quiet in the kitchen. But then again the S5's are already running from outside the sound proof box.

Then after that i'll have to think about how to find someone that can add an outlet in the bedroom where i'm moving to soon. Since i'd rather not do it myself. But i suspect adding an outlet count as "Modifying" an apartment?

With it being an apartment I don't think you will get away with modifying it that much.  But each lease is so different really depends on yours, when I rented I never had much freedom as far as changing big things.  Also depending where you live there is also some ordinances that you have to have certain certifications or bonded, etc.  So kinda a mix of a few things.

Hopefully you luck out and can modify it some.  My last one I was not even allowed to change door knob when one broke, I had call the apartment complex... and they took care of it.  Luckily no longer renting so lot easier.

I reckon, i'd rather live at my own place now. But anyways, as per the lease rules, i have to ask before doing any modification. But what if i do it anyways? Sound like the worst that could happen is i get evicted if they somehow find out?

Because i could set this all up in the kitchen using the Oven's plug, but that sound a bit silly.

Truly amazing to watch bitwisdom:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    163,491,654,909
Estimated Next Difficulty:    159,573,299,963 (-2.40%)
Adjust time:    After 1132 Blocks, About 8.4 days
Hashrate(?):    1,104,274,198 GH/s

I did not think we would go negative.  And now showing over 2 percent negative.... I don't know what to think.  I feel like speculation right now is like throwing a dart at board.  That there is not any good true speculation.

nah  you just need to see what we have been shown from nov 2015 to feb 2016 to know there is 80 to 150ph on the sidelines that gets powered on and off.

we had this mystery hash stay online for one really long stretch of time jan 22 to feb 14 hash rates went fucking nuts.

It was  turned off  for the first 800 blocks this jump,     but this last day maybe some came back on line.  we did  155 blocks or so

The good thing is every if a push of 10 % happens for a while  since we are neg 2.5%  we may only have a plus 5% at worst.

I really hope the worst does not happen.  we will see soon enough.

@ virsosaGits  I think you are still in the game with that pick of 4.2

I still see it as hard with it being so secretive.  For all we know some 16NM's were sold and moving locations.  There are countless ideas I can come up with that possibly could be effecting it.

But I could be over complicating it.   Hopefully I am and the drop keeps going, and your right about we will see soon enough.

Who knows, the 16nm theory doesnt sound that bad. It would of been a burn-in test of a batch of 5-10 containerized data center.

If i lose because i put a way too high guess, i'll be even happier to be wrong, because a negative right now sound too good to be true. Hopefully its the end of a high raise trend and not just the eye of the storm.

Considering Bitfury apparently sell 14PH/s + self contained freight container miners, it could go much much higher if someone decided to crash the diff further.

A stupid question

If I have 1 x S7 with 4.7Th/s hash

and 10 x S3's with 4.7 Th/s hash total

am I theoretically more likely to get a block with the S7 - rather than on any of the S3's?

Is the quality? speed or whatever other better on an S7?

Thanks

others category:

electricity cost aside, you can have more options testing out different setups with 10x S3.   solo mining one?

10 x S3 will generate more heat during those cold nights.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1297331.0

electricity cost most likely spoils any leverage they have over the S7.

Start yourself a thread in beginners or such, these questions are going way way off topic, now. This has nothing to do with Kano pool. Send me the link and i'll bounce off any ideas or concerns you(two) may have. Just not here.
907  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: February 25, 2016, 11:11:07 PM
This is how you clean up those Power Jumpers on modular PSUs...use modular plugs.  It makes the job so much neater!  Many thanks to PPOC for helping me test the modular jumpers on the EVGA G2 PSUs!  I have a bunch of these modular plugs in different sizes for different brand PSUs if anyone is interested...

Hahh, i wouldnt mind a batch if they're cheap. But i see you jumped #2 and #4 for the EVGA. Isint the green wire pin #4? Because my jumpers are on #3+#4. I thought 3 and 5 was black. Is #2 a ground too?

The pin out on the PSU side is different, in part so you need to buy the manufacturers cables vs. some generic.. I've always made these for myself, EVGAS, Corsair, Lepa, etc. (yes the pin outs are different across manufacturers) but never realized people might want some..

I actually wanted this a while back. The EVGA comes with the jumper now. They all do now. But i thought. Why didnt they make it female, so that you can plug it strait into the PSU? It would cost them exactly the same thing but it would be much cleaner.

Now i have about a dozen EVGA, the mobo trunk isint much of an issue but in OCD term, i wouldnt mind removing their "tails".

What if I receive a small amount of bitcoins (even if it's just a few cents worth)  from a bitcoin faucet, does that also count as  income?

*roll eyes* In Canada no, until you convert it to Fiat. In some places yes. But its not like you can declare that you received 0.0001$. You can add 0.01$ to your "Other income" field if it would make you feel better.

Are you trolling?

I'm not trolling, I am being serious and i'm sorry for sounding like an idiot.

You can sound all you want Tongue It just didnt seem like a serious question.
Its a bit like asking if you should declare the Penny you found on the ground. I guess you could technically count it as income.

Anyways. I think in the US, you're suppose to declare your total in and out of BTC, but when they said that, i'm not sure they understood how BTC work.
Sure its "possible" but its hardly trackable because no private address is solely attributed to one identity. I think we have a long time before BTC gets regulated that much.
909  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] BITMAIN AntMiner S7 x 20 (with PSU) on: February 25, 2016, 11:03:32 PM
Even at 2BTC there seems no ROI. https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator.

You would not ROI before halving, but you could sell them before halving for small profit. Otherwise its going to take a bit longer to ROI it after Halving.

This is of course, if you have free electricity. I dont think anyone in the EU has cheap enough electricity to make it happen, if they dont have free electricity somehow.

Statistically the same. There's no quality of hash, its just blind luck trying different combination to find a solution. Think of it like brute forcing a password, thats kind of what mining does. So if both option output 4.7TH/s of valid hashrate, they effectively are the same.

Just trust the number Kano pools tell you. If they're the same then they're the same.

You really should ask your client what ballpark figure he wants to get for these. If he is fair and not charging the same price as a new S7 then I might throw an offer.

But right now I don't want to send any offers if he will find them insulting but I recently locally picked up a S5 for only $150 CAD. So these 0.5W/GHS miners are clearly not worth what they used to be.

Don't worry about insulting anyone, just throw and offer out there and I'll pass it on. The worse that can happen is he'll say no.

$150 for an S5?! Damn it's a crazy buyers market out there. I guess I have no chance of ever selling my S5s lool.

Thats 110$ USD, definitively too cheap, but i guess the seller didnt know better. Personally i dont see a point in selling mine for less than 180$~ They still earn 50$ a month right now.

Yes, I think 2 BTC per unit with PSU and VAT paid is fair.

I'm new here, I'd rather deal in person, by phone or whatever - not some escrow I don't know... I'm aware this will not entice some people, but that's the deal.

I think you are going to have to do your research, because no one is going to trust a Newbie with even a fraction of 2BTC, and you want to sell 20 of those. Its just not going to happen.

If you dont want to use Escrow, you will have to ship first and find buyers that have enough rep to seem safe. (That will pay you after they verified the unit(s))

But thats a bit silly, so you're going to have to learn to use Escrow, this is the most trusted one on this forum with Millions of USD of successful escrows;

Ohh yes I do mean Female. Smiley got that the other way around. Ill ask J4bberwock

*Nod* Its hard to tell. The male connector that plug into the female socket is called the female connector because its pin's are female. So if you look into your PSU's PCI-e sockets and look at the actual pins, they're male.

same thing here the payment of yesterday is completely missed in the bot hystory, now it simply restarted again with a new payment for the next week

so i'm missing my usual payment, check it plese

Same here. I really hope that the bot has good logs, else Marco will have a lot of ppl to check.

Same for my case . Hopefully we don't reach another week without payment otherwise It will be messy little bit unless the BOT is really good and have logs of everything .

Considering we've had issues with the bot almost every single week for like ever? I dont know i been here for many months and there's always an issue or another. Maybe its time to think of something else? There's tons of trusted users that could run the payouts manually or something. Considering the bot almost never work, everything is already almost done manually.

Might as well just find a trusted user with time to run the campaign's payout or something? Or flat fee. Weekly would be nice.

Today i received the PDU. I overbought the power strips, i though it was 1 strip per purchase, but they come by two and each has 1 plug, so i only needed 2 pack of 2, i got 4. But considering they were 20CAD per pack of 2, its not a big deal. I guess i'll have what i need if i buy another PDU.

I opened up the Hubbel twist lock 50A. Its 3 wire. Green, Black, White. I'm guessing this is the old code, which means the White should be Red? Thus. Those are my two 120V ungrounded (White and Black). And Green is Ground?

So if i understand correctly. The White wire (120V) should go in the Red connector (120V). The Black (120V) in the Black (120V). The Green in the Green (G). And new Plug's 4th pin, the White pin, which is Neutral can be ignored.

Green is ground = correct

Black in the black = correct

White in the red = correct

Ignore 4th pin  = correct

This  is sound mechanically
But most likely not code , not sure since you are a different country.

Should work just add gear slowly.
And remember if it is overload bad things can happen.

Try to figure out your power draw of all miners combined and keep under 32 amps

For the first week at least.

32 amps is about 7600 watts

Yeah, thanks. It should be okay. Also while reading it kinda seem to say like they say for industrial PDU, it can handle its 40A rated load 24/7? I can't because its on a 40A breaker but what if it was on a 50A breaker?

Lets say all wire up to the pdu is good for 50 amp

I think that pdu could do close to 40 amps.

I say do the 32amps because you mentioned weird power issues in your place.

that pdu has 4x  15 amp sockets

so derate to 12 amps  that is 4 x 12 = 48 .   no way I would do that long term.

but I think you could do 33amps safe  say 11 amps on 3 of the sockets. or maybe 36 amps which is 9 amps per socket.

I am always going to err on the short side of what you can do.\\

my pdus have 8 plugs and are 30 amp pdus.

they have 2x 20 amp slow blo fuses.

I know I can do 17 amps  on each fuse which is 34 amps  the fuses do not blow in the pdu but my wall fuse is a 30 amp and that trips after an hour or 2 at 34 amps.  which is fir sure an overload.

MY fear is the wire in the stove plug socket is not code so I am pushing numbers like 32amps

Alright thank you, very much. I could check the wires, i live in a apartment owned by big corps that build their own building so i'm pretty sure they are code. Everything need to be inspected for them to keep their license, etc etc. Also i checked the cable thats come into my electric panel and they seem pretty damn big and able of doing 125A+ But i digress. I plan on respecting 32A anyways.

For plugging the 3 wire in the 4 wire plug, to be code i think i just need to label the white wire with red or black tape or marker, so that it is clear i am using it as an ungrounded conductor.

I was gonna have someone else do this but it seem so simple i ordered a set of Hex key on Amazon and should receive it early next week. So if by the time i receive the key, Mr X doesnt get back to me, i should be just fine doing this on my own anyways.

And yeah i dont plan on going crazy slapping 8kW on this thing overnight or ever.

Just gotta figure out a way to accurately measure electricity usage. I'd know how to do it with a multi meter but there's no way i can touch the pins of these 240v cables while they're plugged in, like you could with 120v.

Does anyone want a S5? My electric costs are about equal to earnings, making it hard to continue...
Whats it worth?

Anywhere from 75$ to 200$ i guess? Its hard to say, people arent even buying one well priced because the difficulty went so up. I'd probably buy one if really cheap, but would also sell one in the upper end.
