Update on the BTCFPGA Forum.

Good god, he's drunk as hell again.

Concur.

Count the errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, typos, use of CAPS, spacing, etc, and compare to his posts from November and earlier.

Sure, the earlier ones aren't 100% clean either, but I see a marked difference.

One thing is bothering me. If Avalon will ship to me via DHL, this is will be total fail because of reasons, I explained before.

I believe you can request shipping via EMS instead.  Send Yifu an email.

I wish BoB would use descriptive URLs like that, and also include the bet title in the html <title>.

we WILL be shipping bASIC bitcoin mining devices in March 2013

They said they're releasing sooner than everyone else!!!

mm hmm.

we know we will be releasing our bASIC Bitcoin mining units sooner than everyone else, especially our good friends BFL.

With BFL scheduled to ship 10-Feb, those two statements (both from the same post) would seem to contradict each another.

I guess Tom somehow "knows" that BFL will be delayed past the end of March?

I'm surprised he's not cashed in much on his special knowledge: http://betsofbitco.in/item?id=701

Transport and logistics is a 24/7 industry.  Their consignment may be collected or they may be dropping it off themselves.  I wouldn't worry about the Sunday thing - the real question is how long it's going to take from the time the packages are scanned into the transport company's system until they start being delivered to their final destinations and that will likely vary as customs clearance times always seem to be something of a lottery.  Tracking information also seems to be extremely hit and miss, so I guess there are going to be many nervous moments until the first customer confirms that they've received their ASIC.

DHL Express is special in that for many countries they have Customs agents for the destination country actually on the planes, clearing the cargo as it's en route.

That's one way they're able to be so awesomely fast.

there is a lot of beautiful boxes...

So they took every one out of its shipping container, unwrapped it completely, and set it naked on the shelf jammed up next to its cousins?

At least they put some boards and sheets of foam or something down on those steel Nexel shelves.
1427  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Development Status [Batch #1] on: January 19, 2013, 03:10:34 AM

Countdown at: http://www.avalon-asics.com/

Looks like it's set for Sunday 20-Jan 12:00 PM UTC, which is Sunday 20-Jan 8:00 PM CST (China Standard Time).

... Start shipping a Sunday at 8pm... really?

Maybe it's business as usual in China on Sundays?  I guess I don't know, myself.

I do know that DHL Express will provide Sunday delivery in the US, by request.

Way to add some value to the discussion.  I've quoted the parts I liked.
1429  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bASIC not shipping / change of owership / refunds etc. on: January 19, 2013, 02:54:44 AM
Forum still on lockdown.

No explanation for the chip delay.

Many refunds still outstanding (were any BTC refunds at all given since Friday the 11th?)

Oh, but we get plenty of empty hyperbole.  "HURRY HURRY STEP RIGHT UP!  THIS HERE IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY!  THESE BABIES ARE GOING FAST!  GET 'EM QUICK BEFORE THEY'RE GONE GONE GONE!"

Good luck with that.

we WILL be shipping bASIC bitcoin mining devices in March 2013 and I am willing to put my own money against anyone who says otherwise.

Wow.  First y'all clamor for pics, demos, and whatnot.  Then as soon as one post is made in response, we get:

I think you should spend more time getting your Avalon devices ready so I can place an order for the second batch.

All the words on the screen mean nothing, really. Products in hands will speak for themselves.

Y'all really are superior trolls.

Tell you what.  I'll post some pics of mine next week and show it mining on eligius.

That's my GPU rig right now.  Soon I expect the graph to look very different.
1431  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Development Status [Batch #1] on: January 18, 2013, 07:12:26 PM
Are there any confirmed miners like cgminer that will work or has worked with them?

It's to come with it's own on-board miner host.  All you need to do is plug Avalon into a DHCP-enabled LAN, configure using a browser (presumably), and you're mining.

I believe internally it's to run cgminer or bfgminer (I forget which), and is to be all open source and friendly so you can connect your own miner host if you wish instead of using the onboard one.

So i think it is pretty obvious now that there are NO Engineers...

1)They have outsourced the lot
2) Their key role is purely Sales
3) Maybe some assembly but thats it!

I think I heard that same story not too long ago...

Sorry if its a repeat i am 3 weeks old btc world and after extensive trolling and reading this is my "I invented a wheel" type of deal

I guess I was too subtle.

I was referring to the recent collapse of bASIC.  I believe they also outsourced almost everything, and did not have much in the way of in-house engineering expertise.

Outsourcing can work, but you absolutely have to stay on top of managing it and do your homework so that you can understand the effort you're managing.  It certainly bears more risk than using an in-house team.
1434  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Development Status [Batch #1] on: January 18, 2013, 04:02:07 AM
This point has been made before, but if Avalon is not trying to get people to send them money, there is not a real good reason to expend a lot of effort on proving that they actually have something.

Actually, I would say that it's an excellent reason. It would demonstrate that they actually care about keeping their existing customers well informed - every bit of positive news from BFL/bASIC is aimed at least partially at getting more pre orders.

Unfortunately, they have given up this opportunity.

I would rather they spend their energy on fulfilling orders than making photo galleries or writing forum posts.

They say everything's on track and they're shipping in less than 3 days.  I don't feel the need to ask for more information.  I think all of the important questions have been answered.

All I need now is just a little more patience.
1435  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bASIC not shipping / change of owership / refunds etc. on: January 18, 2013, 01:28:23 AM
At some point if the funds aren't returned I would contact the New York Attorney general and have them start looking into a case of credit card fraud.

Sounds exciting, but do you honestly consider this fraud?  C'mon, honestly? Tom delivered FPGA products before. He was running the whole thing like a somewhat profitable hobby. Then ASICs became an option, and he bit more then he can chew. He folded under pressure, and acted like an idiot on few occasions. Obviously, some people are getting refunds. Is everyone going to get their money back? We don't know. Is he (and others from his former team) trying? Obviously, yes. Was he competent and able to deliver ASIC products? Obviously no. Was this fraud?  No. See above.

Were refunds promised to anyone who requested one?

Yes: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=79637.msg1163190#msg1163190

If this promise is not honored, I would call that fraud.
1436  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: WOW! BFL is refusing full bitcoin refunds! on: January 18, 2013, 01:11:56 AM
OMFG JFC STFU already, six pages of this garbage, in addition to the pages strewn through the other threads.

I swear, if I were a mod, I would delete every new post concerning this topic.  It's been beat to death and back ten times over.

What none of these ASIC vendors seem eager to point out to us is that the process of making an ASIC is not just a linear set of steps, but has conditional branching statements.  Something like:

1: Design
2: Simulate
3: Produce a prototype on MPW, get it wirebound and packaged, then delivered.
4: Test the prototype.  If testing fails, go to step 1.
5: Full wafer production, etc, more steps.

The hard part is getting past step 4.
1439  Bitcoin / Hardware / [Archive] BFL trolling museum on: January 16, 2013, 04:03:40 AM
I asked specifically at which point the failure would be expected. An ignorant "HERP DERP THEY WONT DELIVER" is not a specific point.

Possible answers from someone who isn't stupid would be "the fab won't have finished all the layers in time" or "the packaging will take longer than expected" or "chips will get stuck in customs" or "functional testing will fail" or "thermal/environmental testing will fail" etc.

That one.  (In bold above.)

NO PROTOTYPE

How do you know there was no prototype? A prototype with major issues (eg. overheating or reliability issues) would not be something they would want to brag about or produce demos of, but they would learn what they need to produce a full run of working chips.

Um, the batch of chips that was received in December was a full-wafer run.  I believe Josh mentioned 100k chips.

The ones with the major overheating and clock stability issues.

It's also been handled very very poorly. If BFL had said, prior to opening their pre-order window, look we've got this guy that got into some trouble and we're giving him a second chance because we believe he's changed then that would've been one thing.

They did not do this and instead hid his last name, failed to disclose his past, and then shuffled his job description once he was found out. They've handled this even worse than they have their numerous delay announcements.
Those who are in that situation are usually open about it, but some are not. In either case, you don't publicly advertise that fact! Show me a single commercial company that makes it a point to point out one of their employees as a felon. You're more likely to get sued by the employee then gain more customers thru "transparency".

Again, Sonny is NOT just "one of their employees", he was their CEO and is now an officer with the company as is his brother. If their janitor was a crook I wouldn't care much, but a company officer and former CEO? Yeah that's important investor information and should plainly be disclosed PRIOR to accepting funds.

Not just a random felon.

This isn't some guy who copped an felony record because he got caught smoking meth.

Sonny played a key role in an international mail fraud operation that fleeced an enormous number of innocent victims out of quite a few MILLIONs of dollars, over the course of YEARS, and involved many co-conspirators.

As for disclosure, I think BFL has been forthright enough about it.  When asked point blank if their Sonny was the same Sonny named in the court documents, Josh confirmed it.

Now that you know this, you are free to cancel based on this information.

This is bitcoin, it's the wild west.  It's not like your pre-order was a NYSE registered security that came with a giant prospectus filled of every disclosure possible.
