Yeah. That will teach me to put on my faith in them. Thought I was smart to skip them last gameweek, saved the draw disappointment but tonight serves me right.

Worse, couldn't even give you BTTS huh Trofo. And old boy Aurier actually leveled for Nottingham Forest. How the world goes round.

@toke what are you following these days if not football? What the hell could be better than football??

Lol.  I still watch football a bit and read about what's going on from time to time but most of my time spent on anything related to sports betting has been in MMA, mostly the UFC.  No real reason why I like it more these days...  Prolly just a phase and I'll be back spending most of my time in football soon.

I noticed the change when the covid lock downs started some time in 2020.  There was nothing on except the UFC.  So I got way deeper into it than I already did.

Anyway I got a parlay...  Arsenal ML, Aston Villa ML and Fulham +.5 at 6.07.  Good?

Not bad. Spurs didn't win, but Kane did get on the scoresheet, so I got that one easy. Then Newcastle stepped up and Almiron got his goal (so glad that he's not yet found a way to stop scoring after the break!), and that was probably my quickest 2/7 this entire season.

Then everything went to nothing after that. I stuck with JWP for so long, changed to Che Adams and he scores tonight -- after missing a penalty.

Of course, we all missed Mitrovic "easy pick" -- honestly thought he wasn't even playing but pops up with assist + goal. Figures!
Yeah, last one ended better than expected with 3/7 for me. This week's Majestic 7 looks much easier for me and we have all the usual players to pick in most games like Salah, Mitrović, Toney, Almiron and then 3 much tougher games. I went with Moore for Bournemouth but Solanke is maybe even better option, you can pick anybody from front 4 for Arsenal, don't even remember who was my pick, maybe Saka and then Chelsea where you really can't pick a goal scorer.

I also got Salah, Toney and Saka but looks like Liverpool spoiled the weekend.  I didn't watch the match but I feel like those two own goals by Leicester were what gave Liverpool some rope to win the match?  Lol.

Anyway, my complete picks for the weekend's fixtures.

Toney
Salah
Wood
Mitrovic
Zaha
Saka
Havertz

Got Toney down while Salah is out.  :/

@tokeweed I would suggest you to avoid selecting Salah, because he’s been really poor this season and I doubt that he’ll improve in the remaining game’s. Also I thought that Havertz was done at Chelsea and he would be sold in the January transfer window, but it seems like he has regained his form and he’s definitely a player that we all should monitor and continue to select him for our predictions.

Yeah dunno..  But after having a good game vs Aston Villa away, I was thinking that 'Salah is back".  Lol.  I didn't think that they would be needing to win a match with a couple of own goals by Leicester.  Grin   How did that happen anyway?  A good strong shot that ricocheted against the defender I hope.  Cheesy  Those at least could be still seen as a couple Liverpool goals even if they're counted as own goals.

Edit:  Ninja edits.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if it's a +EV bet but allowed only to take once then what's the point of EV?  One bet means nothing EVwise unless proven over a large sample.

That's nonsense and I don't think you believe it.
Let's see:

You can roll a dye once for $1 but if you win you get $1 million. You would take that bet, wouldn't you? And you would take it because of its massive, positive Expected Value. You can refuse to use the term "EV" for non-recurring bets and replace it with any other term if you wish (what would it be?), but it is what it is.

Nope, you're teaching EV under the wrong premise.  The question you should be asking everybody is should they be taking the spot everytime it arises despite knowing that they're going to lose 83% of the time.  It's not supposed to be a one off as EV can only be realized over a large sample.

In your extreme example of EV above, sure you should take it, that's a once in a life time spot.  Lol.  But let's be real here...
1685  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: January 01, 2023, 01:27:17 PM
What do you guys think about Villa? Was my initial team to support for nostalgic reasons (and they weren't bad at all in earlier games) but after Gerrard got axed, they smacked Brentford and United, got smacked by Ncastle and United (in EFL).

New manager magic's gotta be wearing off, are we going to keep seeing see-saw Villa or Mr Hyde?

Asking cause already got money on Spurs on a long acca, not sure to hedge with Villa.

I'm with you with Tottenham, it's just hard to trust Aston Villa.  But as you guys already know, I haven't been into football that much for a couple of seasons now...  I just got them parlayed with Chelsea to get a decent 2.79 line and keep myself interested in watching the matches while the bets are still on.

The bet isn't really big tho, so if I win it, I'd prolly bet everything on Brentford draw no bet at 3.90 vs Liverpool.  What do you guys think?

Edit:  Lloris...  LOL.  And fk this game.  I'm out.

If there's another leg down, then the more important question is how low will it be and how long will the trend be?  Based on my gut feelz, I don't think BTC is gonna drop lower by a lot as sellers are exhausted me thinks...  Grin

And as for how long, I'm thinking not too long.  Check your chart at 2015 and 2019.  We could already be at the lowest point or near it that going another leg lower won't even matter anymore because it won't be that huge.  Dunno...  As I said, it's all based on my gut feelz.  Lol.

I believe in the past there's always been a leg down after a period of accumulation.  This time might not be any different.  However, I wouldn't risk sitting on the sidelines.  If it does take another step down and consolidates, that would be the absolute last chance to grab the bottom.  With all the calamity going on with exchanges rushing to get BTC to back their client funds after years of fractional reserve banking, it is possible that we don't see another leg down.  Either way, I'll be a buyer of the dip, or the flatline.

Dunno, for some reason some of the guys around here look for some sort of steep drop then a quick recovery.  I'm not sure if it still could work that way in the middle of all the bad stuff that has been going on recently.  A steep drop now could make BTC stay where it lands for quite some time.

I've also seen a couple of guys saying that we could be seeing a new cycle for BTC and crypto.  Didn't believe them at first but it looks like they could be right...  Check out the rainbow chart.  There's a V2 now.  Lololol.

What I'm trying to say is what would be the point of asking for such an exercise if you're just allowed to bet once then nothing?  It would be pointless talking about EV if you're just allowed to bet once.

This is just a simplified, easy-to-understand example of a potential real-life scenario, such as e.g. a sports bet with miscalculated odds (as mentioned in the discussion somewhere above), where you don't have any guarantee that a similar opportunity would happen ever again.

EV in gambling is the amount of money won a certain bet makes on average.  'On average' is a key phrase here as it means it isn't just making one bet.  It's about taking these +EV spots as much as possible and coming out ahead in the long run.  And it shouldn't be from a small sample size either, it should be from a large sample size to even things out and minimize variance from the equation.

It should be a repetitive bet over a large sample to achieve this...

EV = (83% x -BTC1) + (17% x BTC11) = +BTC1.04

The EV formula presented is widely used in many areas, not only in gambling (i.e. as a business decision-making tool), and does not only work when you have an unlimited number of attempts and does not represent a guaranteed outcome.

But yeah, if you want to see +BTC1.04 average profit on each bet, you'd need to be able to place an unlimited number of bets. But that's not what this thread is about.

But then why call the whole exercise a sort of argument for EV when it's just one bet then nothing.  Sure people should take the bet and sure it's +EV, but does one bet prove the theory in practice?  No, it should be a series of +EV bets done with a large sample.  In your example, if it's just one bet then there's more chances hero would lose in practice making arguing for EV useless.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if it's a +EV bet but allowed only to take once then what's the point of EV?  One bet means nothing EVwise unless proven over a large sample.

And here's why I'm hesitant in sharing which project exactly is my bet for the next 1000x.  I'm stuck...  Lmao.  It's down more than 50% from where I bought it from.  But in my defense from my own stupidity, if you're chasing these 1000x gains and in these kinds of projects, this is bound to happen.  They could go up or down by a large percentage in any given week or month.  So brace yourselves.

It could be a good spot to buy tho.  Dunno..  I might if I win my parlays in the EPL and Bellator vs Rizin this weekend.  Cheesy

A typical Leeds against the bigs game, and this its:

- Being a shit in defence
- Some good goalkeeper saves
- Rain of goals
- Multiple attacks for each side
- Missing some goals
- Lose

From their comeback to Premier until now this its the regular basis of Leeds. Anyways i like to watch that kind of games.
and every time they play against same or lower level teams, they disappointing us. They don't change a lot after Bielsa's departure tbh.

They were my favorite but until now in their 3rd season in PL, the only memorable match I can remember on Leeds is just when they was able to get draw result 1-1 against City in their first season Undecided

I predicted a 0-3 win for City based on Leeds not so good form during this season but I must say that I enjoyed the game yesterday night.I thought that City would be playing very well in order to show to other teams that they are still running for the title and would not concede but they did.

Yeah but City's goals made makes up for the total goal difference to matter against Arsenal.  And for City to remain in the running, they shouldn't lose one single match from here on out...  Which I think is pretty much doable for Guradiola and his boys.

City would make a good parlay piece every match day to the end of the season if the books weren't so stingy about the odds.  Cheesy  Using City at just 1.11 in a parlay has become more of a risk.  And I don't feel safe with the -2 at 1.52 either.  Lol.

What do you guys think of City to win both halves at 1.87?
1692  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: December 30, 2022, 02:29:43 PM
@Distraction Hamilton had a chance to retire on a high note, but he didn’t and then failed to win the title and now I doubt that he can make a comeback and win it. Furthermore I believe that Max will be winning titles from now on and Leclerc at best might end up in the second position, but if Leclerc can win the title then only F1 races will become interesting otherwise the outcome will be too easy to predict.

Hamilton even shared the top of the list of all-time champions along with Michael Schumacher, amos with seven achievements.
Unfortunately in 2021 he tried to lift another trophy in that ′′ fight ′′ he had with Max Verstappen until the last corners, but ended up being overtaken.
And in 2022 he was even among the best, but he is far from getting the best placement in the Drivers' World Championship.

Let's see how it will be in 2023, as Mercedes' promise is a competitive car, and the demonstration of this evolution already at the United States GP, left Hamilton excited for the contract renewal.

Honestly, I can't imagine Hamilton out of F1 for now, this is his place, and he still has many years ahead of him to win another title.

How long his years remaining would depend on how sharp his reflexes will remain good enough for F1.  He's getting a bit old for the sport at 37.  He could have around 5 more years or so before his reflexes start doing a cliff dive down.  And here's the thing, F1 isn't like any other sport that it would be ok for somebody to compete professionally at 40.  In F1, a deteriorating driver could be a danger to all the other drivers.

As for Merc having a competitive car, I'd bet they'll have a better car than Ferrari.
1693  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: December 30, 2022, 02:08:55 PM
...

I think by asking if somebody should take the bet in your hypothetical scenario, it misses the point of why we should take spots that are +EV.  It wouldn't really matter if you're just allowed to be in a +EV spot just once then nothing.  It's all about the long run and taking on enough of these spots to make some profit.

But if you're just asking for the sake of asking..?  Sure, why not, it's like a value bet for a mispriced underdog spot in sports betting.

Not sure if I understand you correctly. Of course it does matter (a lot) if you only have one opportunity of making a single +EV bet. If you could do it multiple times then it's a no brainer - absolutely everyone would take such chance.

But when there's no guarantee that similar opportunities will ever arise - that's a whole different story, after all, you are still more likely to lose than to win, so there's also a logic behind not taking that bet.

As mentioned in the posts above - I'd be definitely in favour of taking a bet, but not sure what would be the most sensible approach in determining the right stake for it (or for mispriced underdogs in sports bets).

What I'm trying to say is what would be the point of asking for such an exercise if you're just allowed to bet once then nothing?  It would be pointless talking about EV if you're just allowed to bet once.

So it looks like they like their MMA around after lunch in Japan.  Lol.

https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/events/94453-rizin-40

So it looks like the real schedule is set.  Rizin 40 starts at 12:00am ET, so that's 1:00pm in Japan.  And since it's a 9 bout event, that's gonna last around three hours making Bellator vs Rizin event start around 4:00pm in Japan.

And good news, there's a betting market for all 9 bouts.  Smiley

I don't know who these guys are but I think we could be +EV to parlay most of these favorites together into two legs each.
1695  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 30, 2022, 01:41:02 PM

Right now I am really frustrated because we got no event this holiday end, but surely next year will be a great year for us because at the start of the year we will be having the UFC Fight Night: Imavov vs. Gastelum event, and from that event, for me, I am anticipating the Geoff Neal VS Shavkat Rakhmonov fight to be a real banger, and next event was UFC 283: Teixeira vs. Hill surely the main event will be juicy, and this is their trilogy fight and it will surely settle the score if who really deserves the title belt, The UFC 284 | Makhachev vs. Volkanovski event that will have so much juicy and well-known fight plus the UFC Fight Night | Vera vs. Sandhagen for me is surely a wait to behold,

Yup, Rakhmonov is pretty good.  I fancy him getting a title shot anytime during 2023 and could even win depending on who sits as the champ.  A couple more high level fights and he's right up there.  I just hope the UFC won't do a prospect vs prospect match up and have him go against Chimaev like what they did with Topuria vs Mitchell.

The fight between Volkanovski and Makhachev is rather strange, because if you see Volkanovski opponents, most of them pure strikers or fighters whos striking skills were primary. Makhachev is a very inconvenient opponent for Volkanovski. Not to mention that Makhachev is 10sm higher than Volkanovski. A lot of factors is against Volkanovski. I was actually very surprised that Makhachev challenged Volkanovski after his victory over Oliveira, and how Alexander quickly accepted that challenge.

Volk went against Brian Ortega and escaped from a mounted guilloutine which like should never happen.  Lol.  It pretty much shows how tooough Volk is.  I got Makhachev to win but it could be close than what the lines suggest.  I wouldn't touch Makhachev in a single at anything lower than 1.50.

Hypothetical scenario:

You can bet on a single dye roll (choosing a number between 1-6), but if you win you get paid x12 of your stake (instead of x6).
So the Expected Value is positive (see example below), but you'd still have 83% chance of losing.

1 - will you take that bet?
2 - if so, what % of your available funds would you put at stake (i.e. funds you're willing to gamble and afford to lose)?

Again, this is a single, non-repetitive bet.

-----------------------

Simulation for BTC1 bet:

EV = (83% x -BTC1) + (17% x BTC11) = +BTC1.04

Edit: calculation corrected, credit to Saint-loup

I think by asking if somebody should take the bet in your hypothetical scenario, it misses the point of why we should take spots that are +EV.  It wouldn't really matter if you're just allowed to be in a +EV spot just once then nothing.  It's all about the long run and taking on enough of these spots to make some profit.

1698  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to win gambling? on: December 28, 2022, 08:19:07 AM

Set a budget: It is important to decide how much money you are willing to spend on gambling in advance and stick to that budget. This can help you avoid overspending or getting carried away.

Choose your games wisely: Some games have a higher house edge than others, which means that the casino or other gambling establishment has a greater advantage. Choose games that have a lower house edge, such as blackjack or craps, if you want to increase your chances of winning.

Practice good money management: It is important to manage your money well when gambling, which means not betting more than you can afford to lose and being careful not to chase your losses.

Stay sober: Alcohol can impair your judgment and make it more likely that you will make poor decisions while gambling. It is important to stay sober while gambling to help ensure that you are making decisions based on clear thinking.

Bankroll management is key above all the criteria.  I also want to add that there are games that can make you have the edge at any given moment if you work hard in acquiring the skills and the knowledge needed to get +EV everytime you play.  These games are poker and sports betting.  It's just a matter of choosing your spots well and having the skills to win more consistently.

And what's fun with sports betting is you don't have to stay sober after you've made your bet.  Grin  You can be as drunk as fk as the games happen.

Nunez's performance made me appreciate Timo and Lukaku even more; he's had 16 chances to score this season and has missed 12 of them. Whoever convinced Liverpool to pay 100 million pounds for Nunez deserves an Oscar. Grin
He is failing to finish all the time. Although the assist for the last goal was amazing. If Nunez was scoring then we could have half a dozen of goals today.
However, he was not given the assist. If Nunez had been the 2pac shooter, 2Pac would still be alive today. I'm hoping he doesn't miss out on training.  Cheesy

Lololol!  C'mon man be nice to the guy cos who knows, his second season could be way better than how he's playing right now.  I mean it's his first year in the big leagues and he's just 23 years old.  I think he deserves a couple more years to bloom and shine in the EPL.  That and there's no way Liverpool could sell him with his price tag they acquired him for.  Lol.  Grin

As for the pool, I think I give up.  I'm 26 points off the top and everytime I make my picks, I don't know what I'm doing half the time.  I think I should start looking more closely into the stats as much as I used to.  I used to take hours looking into Soccerstats a couple of years back.

I don't want to tell you my secret  Grin cause you will copy it for the next year pool but I do something that I am always near the prize standings, last year I lost it for 2 points from the last price, this year I am in a good position at 12 points from the top so far so chances are high.

Since you don't know what you are doing half of the time why just not going to websites like this one freesupertips.com and put the tips that they put, sometimes they hit it really big although most of the times they don't do well and with that I just told you 30% of my secret  Grin.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

C'mooon!  What's the whole secret?  Is it also waiting for most everybody to make their picks check where the top guys' positions are in the prediction page and guess which score lines they made?  Loool.  I know there are some of you out there.

And those free tips are good to get some idea on what's going on currently with a team but our pool tries to predict the correct scores which is really something harder to do.  It needs a bit more enthusiasm to watch all these fixtures which I used to do.  I watched all the replays of the matches, checked the stats and took notes.  Lol.  I had one good year betting on the EPL, around 5 years ago.  The rest were meh and I kinda got jaded and lazy.

And I also think that Covington versus Edwards is going to be a good pay per view on generator for the UFC. But the question is, is that going to happen?

It could be as the event is gonna be in London.  The crowd over there are louder, rowdier and overall just more fun.  But what's interesting with this match up is the way it was set up.  I got Covington as the more likely winner here and if he does win, it sets up another rematch against Usman...  And this time it's gonna be Covington holding the belt.

Either could win but I don't think Edwards could handle Covington's pressure.  The loser of the match gets to fight Chimaev.  Lmao.

I think you got confused.  You're talking about Islam Makhachev.  And yes, Volk is moving up to 155 and is going for Makhachev's belt.  And if Volk wins, he gets to be double champ.  One title at 145 and another one at 155.  If Makhachev wins then he defended his belt at 155 and Volk doesn't lose his belt at 145.  That's how it works.
This is going to be fight to watch and not miss, but changing category and moving up can often be hard for fighters.
First thing I think is how Adesanya looked weaker when he moved to test himself in light heavyweight category.
Volkanovski has slight reach advantage but Makhachev is much taller and he has Khabib in his corner, and Khabib's father said that Makhacev is his best student.
My early predictions and bet would be on Islam Makhachev to win, but many things can change until then.

I think Makhachev is levels above everybody in the UFC.  We'll be seeing him hold the 155 belt for a long time imho.
