762  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PAPER WALLET on: January 20, 2021, 11:00:12 AM
Probably a unpopular opinion:

If you don't know how to confidently create a paper wallet securely, using a paper wallet might not be a great option. Getting a cheap hardware wallet(Ledger Nano S/Trezor One) is a far more secure option for the typical beginner. There's just a good number of ways while generating the paper wallet that could completely mess up your security.

In addition to that, NEVER BUY A USED HARDWARE WALLET, NEVER!! Only buy then from the official website/store of the wallet producer to be sure that nobody made any tweaks on it. Even if you buy a small amount of coins it's worth it to keep it in a wallet.
For example if you bought a 300$ worth of bitcoin when the price was around 3000$ in 2019. Now this 0.1BTC cost approx ~3500$. What will cost in 5 -10 years, nobody knows.
763  Other / Meta / Re: Reason for ban? on: January 20, 2021, 09:50:59 AM
IF you were hacked, you need to change everything. Create a fresh new email address that it's gonna be used only for the forum and don't use it elsewhere, this will make it even more secure and avoid being hacked or at least reduce the risk significantly.

764  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to bruteforce a mobile wallet backup? on: January 20, 2021, 05:47:56 AM
You install a bitcoin wallet on your phone, you make a backup file with a password, and store it somewhere safe.
You should not do this. What you describe is a bad security practice. Your backups should be accessible to you and you alone, but using passwords will lead to the loss of coin because backups will potentially not be accessed for a long time after you create them.

You are also making the mistake of using only one backup. You should always have at least three copies of your wallet, in at least two mediums of storage and have at least one in an offsite location.

This is an example of what people do and how they end up with a forgotten passwords of their backup not an actual advice how to make and store their backups and passwords. Read the sentence above the one you quoted Cheesy

Question, shall I create the guide in the Techical Support section or move it to the Development & Technical Discussion > Wallet software > Bitcoin Wallet for Android ?? What you guys think is the best place?
765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to bruteforce a mobile wallet backup? on: January 19, 2021, 11:32:10 PM
A little update,
I has some free time lately and I managed to recover a password from a Dash mobile backup with btcrecover. So basically it's the same procedure as the bitcoin android wallet backup.

Previously I got a weird error that the file is not a legit wallet file, after a clean reinstall of python, pyCrypto and btcrecover everything worked fine.
766  Economy / Reputation / Re: DT1 and DT2 members who have negative feedback (or are banned) on: January 19, 2021, 10:01:49 PM
^ I don't see Nevsky's feedback so they are likely off DT but account serje (loan default) is again DT member and account eldrin also didn't repay loan.

I am going to update this post because scammers are still DT2, please do this:

~serje
~eldrin

Done, is there any list of all the loan defaulters, if not I might make one? Would love to update my trust list Smiley
767  Other / Meta / Re: Searching the forum prevents posting topics for 360 seconds on: January 19, 2021, 09:49:22 PM
Just use the google search option on the search page until you reach the requirements, this won't affect your activity on the forum.
All this was done to protect the users, a day ago we hit 3M registered accounts.

On the site note, READ THE RULES if you haven't done it yet, and keep in mind that this is not a regular forum. You'll find out what I mean if you stay for a while Smiley
768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: SSD external hard disk corrupted contain 70 BTC~! on: January 19, 2021, 09:33:18 PM
WARNING, If you attempt the force replace the firmware, the info on the disk will be gone, together with the 70 bitcoins.
Here is the guide in English how to do it, here is the original Russian version and the video in the link of the warning message.

The guy perform the FW update also noted that after completing the process of recovery the data on the drive will be gone. Anyone speaking Russian can confirm it. He also said that if you need your data recovered you need to contact professionals.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THE ABOVE PROCEDURES, YOU'LL LOOS YOUR DATA!!

Another question. Any chance to have the seed, private key or the password for the wallet.dat saved on that disk, then you can be worried about sending the disk to someone?

771  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Български (Bulgarian) on: January 19, 2021, 06:38:05 PM
@TheBeardedBaby - същото е и с мен. От отдавна не съм в България и не познавам никой от известните Smiley

772  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I accidently factory reset a Galaxy S9+ with 0.5 BTC on it. Can it be recovered? on: January 19, 2021, 02:13:37 PM
I don't know what app you are using but if you made a backup file, you maybe have a chance. The Bitcoin android wallet creates backup in the following format > bitcoin-wallet-backup-2021-01-08-10-30
The file has no extension and if you happen to made one, you might be able to recover it.
Anyway we need more info what app you used,
773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: SSD external hard disk corrupted contain 70 BTC~! on: January 19, 2021, 01:51:44 PM
I'll say one thing, you can't diagnose the problem only with a picture and this is electronics it's not a car mechanics where you can change your brakes using youtube videos... this is way more delicate hardware to work with. On a picture you can detect only the physical damage if any.

I don't know where you are located and I cannot suggest a local company, but if I was you I would check those guys > 300dollardatarecovery.com

I have never used their service, I don't have any relations with them, I'm just reading people's comments about their service online. I would love to read if anyone had any experience with them tho.

There is a risk but seems that you pay if they manage to recover any files otherwise you pay only the shipping fees.

Again, this is just an option, not THE solution, you have to decide for yourself what you want to do.
774  Economy / Speculation / Re: When The Inevitable Happens With The Dump - What Will Bitcoin Be Worth? on: January 19, 2021, 01:35:13 PM
I think it is going to happen very soon, the dump will be happening but what will happen when everything on CMC shows red? How far will Bitcoin fall?

After the crash I think it might settle around the $12,000-$13,000 mark before finding a way to work upwards again over a period of time.

The all time high was set just hours ago of $40,180.37 according to CMC

So we dumped to 30k and are headed sideways which means 60 is on target 🎯.

My guess is 60 and down to 35k

I agree with you, we probably won’t see it under 20k anytime soon if at all, those who were here when bitcoin went from a few hundred to a thousand they know what I’m talking about. Moreover, when big players like grayscale and MicroStrategy joined the party, bitcoin is no longer a junkey money for people to buy join on the dark web. Now it’s an investment instrument and people a buying more than it’s mined then the demand is insane… until there are more regulations…
775  Other / Meta / Re: Post removed ? About hosting solutions on: January 19, 2021, 01:18:43 PM
Normally I report newbie posts that contain links especially when this is the first post. Seems like 99% of those are just spammers and shitposters trying to get some traffic to their webistes but there are also legit users like the OP. I hope the bad experience won't discourage the OP to stay on the forum, it's good to have new users especially in the mining section.
776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: SSD external hard disk corrupted contain 70 BTC~! on: January 19, 2021, 10:57:59 AM
Hold on, as a owner of a computer hardware repair shop for more than 10 years I can give you one advice. If you don't know what you are doing, please don't attempt to repair it alone. I've seen "repaired" things that are beyond repair.
Keep in mind that whatever you do with the disk you have a high chance of destroying what was left on it.
Example every time you power up a SSD the firmware will will attempt to do a maintenance even if it's not connected to a PC, those are processes you cannot stop and they can make things even worse depends on the failure you have.

To me it seems like you have a controller chip corruption the way you explained the issued you got, this is the most common failure you get with those ssds. The memory chips should be all fine. I'm not a professional data recovery expert but I can bet on  that was the initial issue you had. I don't know the current situation after the "friends" repair attempts but if the hard drive didn't have any physical damage and just suddenly stopped working then controller chip corruption is the most common what can happen.

There's a possibility to replace the controller chip and the drive has quite high chance of getting back to normal but don't attempt to change it yourself.

If you have taken it to a professional company and they said that it cannot be repaired, the are not a professional data recovery company, or your drive is physically broken and total loss.

On the other side, the company cannot make a full recovery if the drive is encrypted and they don't have the decryption key, most likely every reputable company will require it. You might have a chance to make an agreement to get the raw data on an external drive and try to decrypt it yourself, but the company will not be able to verify if the data was properly extracted. You might end up with a bunch of 0s and 1s that have no meaning even after decrypting the data. You have to either risk the chance of getting your coins stolen, with a reputable companies the risk is lower, or just forget about the coins at all. Trying to fix it yourself won't do the job.

This is what I can tell you from my experience. Good luck with the recovery.
777  Other / Meta / Re: Three millionth account registered on: January 19, 2021, 08:47:41 AM
In 2017, the cryptocurrency market was called the Wild West because there was no regulation.
Everyone could issue their tokens and sell wherever they wanted.
Market capitalization grew due to rising prices
shitcoins, which are no longer there or they cost very little.
I think that now this is impossible to repeat, people have become smarter and government agencies have learned to find fraudsters and prosecute.

Things have changed but not that much, there's always people hungry for $ and back in 2017 there were less restrictions than now it was a lot easier to automate everything and make money from almost nothing.
There are some significant changes in the forum that reduced the amount of "bounty hunters" and put the brake on the spam but they are not gone completely. People still developing and selling accounts, and the sig spammers and bounties hunters will be more and more.

When this happens you'll see the difference .

The post is on 5 July 2020, months ago but total nuked accounts is 65770, that is far higher than 15936 (the gap between 2984822 and 3000758)
Whatever data is displayed on the statistics page, I am absolutely sure that this gap between the numbers is connected exclusively with deleted accounts, (since the deleted accounts are currently 16,117). And the discrepancy between the numbers presented here and the numbers displayed on bpip.org is another question. Perhaps this is due to the update intervals, given that at the moment, for example, I see that btcnfan's profile has been online for a total of 23184d ...

The stats page is not reliable source of info. Many of the stats are wrong, but it's not worth it go waste time on adjust them when you have many other 3rd party projects tracking even more stats.

Those accounts are registered as alts accounts with only meaning to be as trophies not a real genuine users. Maybe they could be sold as collectibles one day,  like they are doing with the accounts with ID  below 10000 now. I remember it was a big competition who was going to registered the 2M account a few years back.

Wait for the ALTSEASON to kick in then you'll see a lot more ppl online.
