Thanks for that explanation inaba. Yeah when I meant payment, I meant share distribution / reward.

Also, another question...so my mining PC is mining most of the time and emc is my only pool. But, lets say if one night (maybe a couple times a week) I stop my miner so I can play a game for a few hours, will this punish me harshly? Thanks

Im wondering whats the current method of payment for us, is it proportional?
Also, inaba your still workin on PPS right?

Since, Im such a noob...finding info on comparison of the different types of payment is prooved a challenge lol...
How would PPS compare to our current method in a small pool vs a large pool?
2663  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [90 GH/s] EMC: 0 Fee/LP/API/PayPal Payout/Free SMS/US/EU/AU/Full 8 Payout/More on: July 26, 2011, 09:10:33 PM
That's a great idea PoulGrym, I will make that happen!

Tarkin - think of mining a block like winning the lottery.  It's completely random and everyone is buying billions of tickets per second and only one person can win.  So every six minutes, on average, someone gets a jackpot for their trillions of tickets submitted.  Sometimes luck runs with you and you find a block fairly quickly, other times, not so much and it takes longer.

We are never working on the same block for more than about 6 minutes.  Every time a block is solved everyone, everywhere starts working on the next block at the same time.  So everyone is working on a new block every six minutes.

Ah, I got ya and we basically are just awarded in our pool when someone of our pool discovers a block then we all split up the 50btc from that block right?

Therefore the smaller the pool the more reward when a discovered block by someone in that pool is solved but it takes longer...
But if it was a bigger pool, more blocks would be discovered but much less payout chunk...

Its all starting to make sense.
Im a noob and still tryin to wrap my head around the blocks and bla bla bla...started mining this weekend lol..

So, then why would a block take longer then another block?
Does it all depend on the time it takes for someone to find another block? and we just all sit around hashing away on the current block till this happens?
2665  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [90 GH/s] EMC: 0 Fee/LP/API/PayPal Payout/Free SMS/US/EU/AU/Full 8 Payout/More on: July 26, 2011, 07:45:58 PM
So, Im curious... I noticed something, I seem to get rewarded the same amount no matter how long a block takes to solve by the pool, whether its 15hrs or 3days

Does this mean a given block is higher in difficulty vs one that is fairly simple?
2666  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Optimizing ATI performance, 6950 in particular on: July 25, 2011, 05:47:37 PM
i can now lower my mem all the way down and control voltage with atitray tools (both of which where pretty much factory locked) gigabyte 6950 oc

Thanks for that, I went with ati tray tools....I remember that program from way back when. Im glad to see its still around! It works great w/ the 6950, have the mem clocked at 150 and verified w/ gpuz.

I tried trixx but it sometimes would and would not apply the mem clock properly.

Mem going from 750 w/ afterburner to 150 w/ att....I gained another 20watts in power savings...yay!
2667  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Who determines whose fault a PSU failure is? on: July 23, 2011, 05:45:15 PM
NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER! go cheap on your PSU ... especially for what we use them for! You want to get a very nice PSU because often times in the PSU world "You get what you pay for" applies very well.

I would recommend reading reviews of PSU's where they actually put load on the PSU, measure the voltage regulation of each 12v 5v and 3.3v. Also they measure ripple.

One of my favorite manufacturers (Seasonic) OEM's for many different PSU manufacturers with higher priced PSU's.
Many of the Corsair line is Seasonic I believe.
Seasonic makes some of the most stable / quality PSU's in the 400-800watt range.
There are a couple of other really good OEM's out there, but my experience is mostly w/ Seasonic.

Superflower is also making a comeback. Releasing extremely high quality PSU's under several different brands.

Either way, stay away from your 40$ 600watt PSU's they are utter garbage and most likely will destroy your PC. For a nice 600watt PSU plan on spending a good 70-90$+

2 sites I love for quality, unbiased reviews:

Anyone know if an easy way to clock the memory at 300 in windows? Ive tried MSI afterburner w/ the overclock EULA lines...but doesnt work. Also tried ASUS smart doctor.
The lowest I can take it in afterburner and have it stick is around 750mhz.

I dont wanna have to make a BIOS for the card =( cuz I wanna game w/ it too LOL!
2669  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Optimizing ATI performance, 6950 in particular on: July 22, 2011, 08:05:31 PM
I just got an ASUS DC2 6950(stock bios no unlock) and this is what I get:

Catalyst 11.7 preview

Using GUIminer w/ openCL option, flags are -v -w64

Clocks are 895/625mem

363-365Mhash/sec

Temps: GPU 72C @ 50% fanspeed
---
Is this any good?

Also, one of my cores is pegged at 100% =( I guess this is a common openCL bug...ugh, I hate it cuz its using more power cuz of that.
Oh well, its an i7 @ 3ghz @ 1.002v, cpu itself uses around 20watts w/ one core pegged.

This machine is my everyday machine...so, it has 2 HDD's 2 ODD's 1 FDD , a soundcard , i7 920, 3GB RAM, Gigabyte X58.

With the current config it pulls 310watts from wall using the killowatt.
2670  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: poclbm using CPU 100% even though using GPU? on: July 22, 2011, 06:49:46 PM
I have this issue as well =( its very annoying. I have tried all sorts of different miners w/ my new 6950 and it still has the one core usage on my single card!

I have tried the preview 11.7 drivers which are said to fix this issue. Is it possible to individually try different OpenCL packages w/ different driver versions till find one that does not have this issue? E.G. use the 10.x drivers OpenCL (which is said to work correctly) w/ newer drivers?

yeah what happened, its still down =(

Hi Tarken, welcome.  I will respond to your PM this evening, I'd like to take time to properly respond instead of firing off a quick response.

Has the CPU miner submitted a share since you set it?  The failed threshold is based on the last time the system saw a share from a worker.

Thanks for your response and look forward to PM. Also, yeah the CPU has submitted multiple shares like 20 or so since Ive had it set at 20mins (which I did when I first created my account pretty much)

I just happened to notice it was still redding my CPU worker out at 10mins

Just wanna reply and say I recently switched from deepbit to this pool and really enjoy this pool. I hope it continues to run for quite some time!

I dont know if you(Inaba) received my PM, please let me know, it had a few tips and questions in it!

I get my new 6950 tonight and it will replace my crappy nvidia card haha...just recently started mining!

Oh also, I just noticed... is the "minutes to consider failed" not working properly? I have a value of 20 in it and one of my miners is a CPU miner...its showing failed at 10mins...

2677  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I sell BTC for Dollars and get paid into my paypal account? on: July 20, 2011, 11:01:25 PM
Yeah, thats where I mine...the paypal fees are a bit steep indeed, I hope he considers lowering them or making them tiered fees, because 10% on a large sum of payout is ... quite high!
2678  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Got burned for $100 by bitcoin4cash on: July 20, 2011, 10:51:16 PM
that stinks.. let us know if you get paid!
2679  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im mining for pool eclipsemc.com...wheres reward? on: July 20, 2011, 02:56:26 PM
its anywhere from 50-90Ghash/sec

Thanks for your reply it makes more sense now =)...there average block completion time seems between 8hrs to 2 days...depending on the block..

I started in mining pool deepbit - their reward was updated pretty much as I earned it...I guess thats cuz they finish blocks so fast w/ their computing power. So, that makes sense.
2680  Other / Beginners & Help / Im mining for pool eclipsemc.com...wheres reward? on: July 20, 2011, 02:31:34 PM
Since I cant post in the actual pool forum yet, was wondering if anyone else was mining for this new pool.
It shows "estimated reward" but in my actual account balance there is none....how long till I get some?
Ive been mining on this pool for about 1 day.
