update on the 240CFM fans I ordered....
So, didnt realize the avy PSU is modular and that they didnt leave any molex leads in there ... So had to route my new fans to another PSU outside the avy...
Anyone know where I can get the modular cables for the avy PSU? I have the enermax GX850...
if not, anyone know where I can get a 6pin PCIE -> molex 12v only?(there is one extra pcie connector in there)

So, overall the fans have dropped degrees by 10-15C @ 350mhz
The modules run much cooler @ 350 on a hot day thus far. And have been auto clockin to 352+.... lower HW errors too by a bit...good stuff.
I have the RPM sensor of the fans plugged into avy fpga board and senses them fine @ 5280rpm each.

They are loud tho, can hear the avy through my garage window, through the patio door, into my place on the opposite end in my bedroom....ROFL!

Does anyone know what the avalon fan controller can handle current wise?
1703  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 16, 2013, 02:43:22 PM
in case you have multiple pools in the list that switch between you will add up diff1shares then do the calculation.
Also, I find setting up miner.php an easier method of lookin at the data =)
1704  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 15, 2013, 02:52:42 PM
Con, what is the appropriate NMW/MWC ratio?
No such thing as "appropriate" as it's just another hardware error. If your hashrate is okay, it's okay. You can read a few pages ago about how I chose the "appropriate" hardware error target rate of <2%.

why does ASIC count only read 10?

Thats how many asic chip there are per the 24 miner count .. =)

THE most powerful Bitcoin miner you can get right away! Auction thread here, or make me an offer by PM:

ok the question on everyone's mind why are you selling this???

Makes sense, mine with it very early on, and sell it before its not worth much...
1706  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS avalon modules on: July 12, 2013, 07:02:54 PM
Ill offer 3BTC, since thats what they were originally priced.

Ill offer 2BTC =)

Has anyone decapsulated one of these chips?

Why would anyone want that? Trying to figure out how hash sha256?

I was simply interested in packaging/heat transfer, that's why i asked in this thread.  I think there was a mention of "hollow" somewhere, a warning against top-side heatsinks, wanted to find out if that was the case.  Also idle curiosity, i like silicone pronz.  Smiley

Just wiki or read many pdfs available regarding QFN package design. You will get the general idea, yes under the plastic they are hollow the die sits inside and has "metal support beams" (forgot exact term) that go through the PCB to the thermal pad on the opposite side of the PCB. Heat is distributed to the surface of the PCB & to that metal thermal pad.

haha watched some vids of that fan, it fuckin takes off on a table at only like 20% RPM.. it hovers itself half - full speed .. ROFL!
1710  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 10, 2013, 07:04:14 AM
Will the avy turn on & run if it doesnt detect PWM fans installed? Im considering a couple high end delta fans like:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835213001

Which utilize good ol fashion molex for power + 3 pin for RPM sensing. Will the avy work fine w/ one of these or does it require PWM fans to run?

Hey puerto .. what about this fan, it may fit the bill:

bunch more options here too:

http://1stpccorp.com/fan_delta_120mm.htm
Ah, looks interesting.

Does anyone know if the Avalon unit will startup if the fans remain disconnected from the system? (Perhaps bypassing the internal controller is a better idea?)
Well the guys that made the water cooling setups Im sure figured that one out.... but not entirely sure ...

Unless the fans you choose specify PWM, then there's a good chance that even if you can get them to connect, they will not spin correctly with PWM control. Fans need to be designed to work with PWM because of the way it works since it pulses voltage to them rather than decreases the voltage to them. You will be hard pressed to actually do better than the stock fans (the 38mm NMB ones).

Someone in the avy users thread wrote PWM control fork for avalon & specifically the fan I specified =)

BTW do you know what the ratings are on the stock 2 more powerful fans in batch 2 unit?
1714  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Restructuring cooling capacity for Avalon on: July 10, 2013, 06:08:48 AM
Just get those 5500rpm HP server fans =P
they do 252CFM...
TFC1212DE

But will have to use firmware that has inverted PWM Control...
These fans eat about 50watts a piece at full RPM .. rofl...

think I MAY have found a bug in most recent avy firmware ..

It seems w/ avalon-auto & avalon-freq & an initial clock frequency > min of avalon-freq...
once avy clocks down the the min specified per avalon-freq, it seems to no go back up from that floor no matter what temps / hw error rate is =(
Example:

My initial clock is 350mhz, freq 315-400, during hot day avy will slowly clock down to 315, but even when it cools down and HW error rate is below 2% & temps are below their specified max...
It wont start climbing from 315 =(
1716  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 10, 2013, 04:10:23 AM
After flashing to the July update, my HW errors went from 3ish percent to now 30%. I'm thinking I will revert...

That makes no sense =/
1717  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 10, 2013, 01:53:33 AM
i've done it more times than i could count... thought i bricked one once but a quick hard reboot solved it all

Isn't rebooting during a flash pretty much the worst possible idea?  Tongue

I've done this a million times on server hardware. Never with an ASIC. The downtime in case of an issue and probable lack of being able to return it is what scares me.

All you are flashing is the router really =) nothing else. It should be fine, I doubt it has a very high failure rate... I havent heard of any known flashing failures on avalon, under normal conditions.
But yeah, its just like flashing a mobo, same chances of failing I suppose... which over my PC career seems to be 1% of flashes I do, something breaks =P

craslovell - seriously - one or two posts - not 9.
Have you never used a forum before in your life?

Sorry, this thing cost me a pretty penny. I just wanted some advice to help get it working. Was running fine for hours then started fudging around.

Thanks for the valuable input..

FW update is a must to get the thing running better then it is now =)
Improves reliability significantly.
1719  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 10, 2013, 12:18:22 AM
how can I force it to use the secondary wired connection for pool connecting? I'm connected to the default 192.168.0.100

I added the secondary as 192.168.1.45

I am so confused dude, what exactly is it that you are trying to do?
Also, first update the avy firmware to conmans latest cgminer build:

lol, these things are nowhere near worth 140btc anymore but...okies =)
