Like I said, the damage is not seen in mining btc. It shows up when trying to do gaming =/
2242  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 energy efficiency on: August 08, 2012, 01:00:37 AM
for me, 5970 gets best performance w/ phatk -w 256
As for improving effeciency further, if you can, drop the voltage on cpu and its clock speed to bout 1ghz, should be easily able to do 1v @ 1ghz, if not less voltage then the thing barely uses any power.
Also, run the RAM speed low as possible.
Disable any onboard components not needed(USB3, firewire, serial, parellel controller, ide controller, etc...)

My 5970's can do 810mhz @ 1.034v, give that a shot.
Also have one that does 760mhz @ .95v, pretty effecient.

Then of course the more effecient ur PSU...the better.

thats odd, I wonder whats going on w/ some of these 5970's then =(

OOPS, I just realized I put this in wrong section, meant to put in mining hardware section...can someone move it for me?

what clocks / voltages you run urs at? Also, I did restart PC and ensure clocks were default.

I have 3 5970's now and been through another one previously that I RMA'd because of corrupted RAM.
I received a rather new 5970 recently from a fellow trusted miner and it also has bad RAM. I suspect another one of my 5970's has it now as well.
But, something we doing or either the way mining has effects on RAM ultimately causes it to go bad.
These affected cards will mine perfectly fine, but playing games...forget it. The display corruption is horrible.
If its not the RAM getting destroyed then its the ROP's .. which AFAIK we dont use while mining but those are primary components of gaming.

Either way, it really sucks, the cards will resell next to nothing in this condition.
If anyone else is running 5970's I recommend before selling them put them through a 3dmark11 run or something to make sure they are ok.

Anyone else willing to test theirs out and post results in this thread, that would be awesome to see how many are possibly affected. Because I heard others mention this before as well.

I have been waiting for these things since march...  i have SeaSonics and mobo ready...  but to waste 4 of my precious gpu power connectors on one card... NO THANKS.     i hate molex connectors.

bummer.......   Angry
Quite so. I can't figure it out, it seems to me that the most logical thing would be 2x 8-pin: 150w each, = 300 watts total, whereas 3x 6-pin: 75w each, = 225 watts total. Huh

Do the PCIe bridge chip and the memory really need as much power as both the GPUs combined? Huh

EDIT: Derp, 4x 6-pins, not 3. Still it works out to the same wattage as 2x 8-pins.

The PCIe bridge chip should use barely any power. The RAM should not use anywhere near the GPU's lol.... that would be madness
2249  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Double-spend prevention clarification on: July 31, 2012, 11:44:53 PM

Without a blockchain fork, there are a couple other double spend attacks as well:

Not all double spends attempts are intentional even.  Take the scenario where someone who imports their private key from a wallet.dat into Blockchain.info, for example, and then spends the one in blockchain.info.  Then the bitcoin-qt is launched but it hasn't caught up on the blockchain and a payment is sent, which happens to spend the coin that was transferred to blockchain.info.  That would be a double spend.  That can happen seconds apart or months apart.

Thats very interesting. What does BTC do when this situation arises? Would the second tx not be allowed? .. even tho the double spend wallet hasnt caught up w/ its blockchain yet? The peers, I hope, having an updated chain when it announced the tx to the network will reject it .. because they have an updated block chain.

How long have you given him?   Smiley

3 or so hours =P haha

Oh gawd...

You did see his original post...
"and withdrawals may take up to 24 hours."

So, a PM might take as long.  He does have a regular job as well.

k, cool =) hehe... Im just impatient lol!
