Pretty awesome article that puts things into perspective in an efficient & truthful manner.

just a heads up , even at 60BTC.... it will never make back ROI =/

Its maybe worth 30-40btc
1663  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS: Various GPU's & mining components... on: August 09, 2013, 06:21:22 AM
Card received and works great!  The only problem is the unfortunate location of my PCI-E 1x slot... gotta go get at least one more riser, but am just going to get two more and get better air flow between them!

Thanks!  Positive feedback left!

Edit:  Nevermind, it wouldn't let me leave feedback Undecided

aww bummer, but glad it works good for ya =)

btw, BUMP!

Wow, I hope some of the big names in bitcoin go to this, seems like its a big chance to get heard and feed the Fed some truth on bitcoin and bring up to date =)... ultimately hopefully to get them to walk away w/ decent intentions / ideas on howto address bitcoin going forth.

how bout 1.5btc for the 6950? =)

its probably the bitfury 100th machine ramping up =(
1667  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon cgminer Status Page Help on: August 04, 2013, 04:42:10 AM
I need some help understanding what I'm looking at on the cgminer status page.

1. There is an Avalon Hash Rate and a Summary Hash rate. What's the difference?

2. What are normal values for the fans? Which fans should be working?

3. What are normal values for the temperature. Which temperatures should be working?

4. What's NMW?

5. What is the Miner Count and the Asic Count and how do they relate to the number of modules?

6. What's Local Work - or more specifically what data is changed locally?

7. What's Get Work when using Stratum?

8. What is Network Block?

--------------------------------------

I've answered some of my own questions from the cgminer API-README file.

Diff1 = The number of  Difficulty 1 shares generated
DiffA = The number of Diff1 shares accepted
DiffR = The number of Diff1 shares rejected
LSD = Last Share Difficulty

Discarded = stale shares that cgminer knew were stale so it didn't even send them back to the pool

---------------------------------------

Thanks!

1. Avalon hashrate 5 seconds - the estimated hashrate of the last 5s based on diff1 work returned in last 5s / Summary hashrate shows mhsav - its the hashrate avg'd since cgminer has been running
2. All 3 fans should show a value. The first one is most likely lower than the 2rd & 3rd ones. Their normal value is generally greater than 2500-3000rpm if ur in a avg temp place.
3. Temps .. the 1st one is lower than the 2nd & 3rd, the 1st one is temp of the avalon fpga controller board(what Ive been told) .. 2 & 3 are temp sensors mounted onto bottom & top module heatsinks. Avg temp should be between 40-50c for the last 2 temps.(the last 2 will be 10-20C higher if you have a b3 unit)
4. NMW - no matching work, its a type of HW error, NMW is part of HW errors stat - they are both counted in diff1 share equivilants
5. Miner & ASIC count is, 10 ASIC chips per miner, 24miner boards per, 3 module avy (each module has 8 miners * 10 ASIC chips)
6. Local Work - not sure but its been in cgminer for mining since forever =P
7. not sure
8. Network Blocks - how many blocks have been found on network since cgminer been running

bit too low , but will keep in mind =)
1669  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase.com $5 difference in exchange rate when paying invoice on: August 03, 2013, 07:22:09 AM
It might be that they arent using Gox as their exchange rate comparison atm....
bitstamp & btc-e usually are less exchange rate than gox... perhaps this is why.

any chance you can put in an order for a keltec PMR-30 for me at an honest price? LMK
1671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Voting] Bitcoin Slogan / Tagline on: August 02, 2013, 12:07:25 AM
I know Im bringing up an old thread, but I wanted to avoid a rehash of this topic by creating a new thread.
Anyways, Im tryin to come up w/ an extremely catchy slogan for a car window sticker.
Many of the ones in the OP are great and they are all in for consideration.

The one Ive come up w/ thus far is "Bitcoin, cuz banks suck!"

Im looking for something that would grab the average joes attention immediately, yet encompass bitcoin at the same time and from that create genuine curiosity.

Let me know what you guys think or if can come up w/ additional ones that would be appropriate for car window sticker. Thanks!

NICE!
1674  Economy / Securities / Re: [PicoStocks] 100TH/s bitcoin mine [100th] on: July 31, 2013, 08:10:13 PM
Week begins at monday and ends at sunday. Today we have wednesday. So, there's still 3-4 days left before it may arrive. And even it will arrive expect 2 days before it will be hooked up, configured and mine. This project begun half year ago, 3 days that way or another don't make any big difference.

You underestimate flexibility of week in case of ASICs

Yes, this could mean a year if you take week in the context that BFL spoke about it in their news updates =P

Yesterday I added 4 more bitcoin accepting shops in the Portland area =)
1676  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [3] countdown! on: July 31, 2013, 02:49:17 PM
The 4 module pictures, it looks as if the modules are in groups of 2 now? Why did they do this? Doesnt this make expand-ability more difficult and forced to buy 2x modules now? =(
1677  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: July 30, 2013, 08:54:31 PM
looks like the 723 firmware is just based on the 703 =P
from reading the release notes..
1678  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS: Various GPU's & mining components... on: July 30, 2013, 06:07:44 PM
Yes, the 5970's are not scrypt worthy unless you only mine on the good GPU =P

I dont know the exact issue w/ the RAM, either the VRM is screwed for one of the RAM buffers, or the chips are bad or its a cold solder issue.
I suspect either VRM issue for RAM or cold solder, highly doubt the chips themselves are bad.
1679  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS: Various GPU's & mining components... on: July 30, 2013, 05:00:07 PM
They both get decent hashrate, IIRC, I ran them @ 1v, 750mhz , 760mhz or so...
Yielded close to 680-700mh/s per card.
The issue I had w/ them is one of them .. one of the GPU's , the RAM bus or buffer or controller or w/e is bad. So, some HW errors creep up over time...but hashes.

The other 5970 has kinda the same problem but behaves differently. Upon starting cgminer, it will mine for a few minutes then the GPU w/ the bad RAM will flag dead in cgminer, but after restarting that particular GPU's threads...it mines for days fine w/o the issue returning until next cgminer restart.

I used a watchdog script in windows to monitor this behaviour and restart the GPU accordingly.
