501  Economy / Speculation / Re: secret rocket? on: October 14, 2012, 10:40:32 PM
Just ignited.  So many people counted on a drop this Thursday and weekend - but there was no drop on Thursday and I bet that there will be no on the weekend - many bears will be buying.

Since according to you, the secret rocket has already ignited while it isn't going up much, what will happen once it runs out of fuel? Smiley

The secret rocket points to the right, so clearly it is making time go faster. When it runs out of fuel time will slow back down again.

I've seen a car in the Arlington, Texas area with a vanity license plate "MYBITC". I don't know if it's related or not but I wish I would have taken a picture.

Was it perhaps a small car, maybe a type of car starting with a C? The plate could be something like "My Bitty Car". Probably has nothing to do with bitcoin.

... this is related to the Mormon teachings of lying to people for the greater good ...

You need to brush up on you Mormon teachings.  From the Mormon "Articles of Faith": "We believe in being honest".

Dank Bank is a noun I've already defined, it in no way resembles or simulates a bank.

Says Dank:  You are all looking at this wrong. It is not Dank Bank like a bank everybody goes to for their monetary services, it is Dank Bank where I, Dank, go to get loans from the universe based on my karmic credit rating.

The thing is the threads weren't all the same.

Could you at least put similar topics in the same thread? I know there is a rule against posting off-topic to the thread at hand, but there is some leniency. Plus, most of your posts are about four words long (you got a whole 9 words in that last post), it is a total waste of a thread to have such a short post taking up the OP.

Here is a great idea: Start a new thread, name it "Topics of interest to Atlas" and post all your one line musings there so they do not crowd the forum.

my gaud man, its so refreshing to have someone posting reasonable shit here.  i've never ventured into these part of the woods until i got banished here and man is it depressing.

You got banished to Meta? Whoa, that's deep.
506  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama or Romney ? on: October 14, 2012, 04:01:03 AM
Romney is going to win as he should. Obama is a joke and a commie and Ron Paul is an idiot.

lol

Romney is a war monger and another big government guy.  Things won't change much with him.

M

War monger LOL that is cute ....  It can't get any worst then Obama so I suspect Romney just has to show up to do better.

Romney has repeatedly stated that the US needs to spend more money on the military, never mind that the US spends more on its military than the next ten countries combined.

Obama is not much better on this topic, but at least he admits that when the country is ending wars the military budget should go down, not up.

Personally, I prefer Johnson on this issue (and on many other issues): Cut military spending by ending foreign entanglements.

Is it possible to merge threads? When Atlas starts up a bunch of threads, or when something big happens and ten people all start identical threads, could the moderators merge the threads? That way there would not be any censorship, just organization.

The thing is the threads weren't all the same.

508  Other / Meta / Re: New Signature Requirements [Poll] on: October 14, 2012, 03:47:26 AM
I really like the lower profile signatures.

I mean, we see the same people posting over and over again, after seeing their signature once I pretty much ignore it thereafter. Having signatures that were longer than the posts was obnoxious and it made scrolling through threads much more tedious.
509  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator is doing a bad job on: October 14, 2012, 03:28:53 AM

allowing 5-6 threads on the same topic simultaneously, by a guy like Atlas, bashing the devs and BF is inappropriate.  that's my opinion.

I disagree that bashing the devs and/or BF is inappropriate. What is this, the catholic church? 5-6 threads on the matter may be out of line though.

Dank Bank is not a ponzi.

You keep saying that. Would you allow somebody access to your financial records to do an audit to verify that it s not a ponzi?
511  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What was mybitcoin.com? on: October 14, 2012, 01:42:44 AM
It was a webwallet, I used it, it seemed to work just fine, until it suddenly disappeared (I luckily did not have any coins on it when this happened). There may be some old threads lying around detailing the situation, but essentially the guy claimed there was a security breach and somebody had made off with a large portion of the bitcoins. Most people who had bitcoin there never got any back.
512  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE is offline We will update our users on Saturday. on: October 14, 2012, 01:08:34 AM
No confirmation here either.

I DID just get 0.5 BC come in on the BC address I provided (only used for GLBSE in the past). No other communications though. 0.5 BC is at least approximately the amount of outstanding dividends I had awaiting.

Is he sending out rounded amounts? I was expecting 0.87 btc, I seem to have gotten 1.00 (exactly).
513  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - dank soul guarantee - 1.2%-2.0% weekly - New music Oct. 12 on: October 14, 2012, 01:02:46 AM
"dank soul guarantee" is misleading (aside from the obvious reasons) since it is his parents who are giving him money so he can pay "depositors" back.
Except my parents gave me money for three months rent, not money to pay my investors.

If it all goes into the same pot, it doesn't matter what they gave it to you for, just how you use it. (hehe, pot)
514  Economy / Services / Re: I will answer chemistry questions on: October 14, 2012, 12:58:50 AM
This is the water gas shift reaction:  H2+CO2 -> CO+H2O

Wait a minute, you are quoting the reaction in the reverse of what most people think of. This reaction is used industrially to produce hydrogen from methane (partial oxidation of methane, followed by the water gas shift). Are you trying to produce CO?

In the formation of hydrogen, one way to separate the hydrogen out is to pass it over a palladium membrane. The hydrogen will pass through the palladium, but the other species will not. Essentially the hydrogen reacts with the palladium to form palladium hydride, diffuses through the metal layer and reforms molecular hydrogen on the other side of the membrane. In this paper they describe the reaction being driven to the H2+CO2 side by removing the hydrogen through such a membrane.

It looks like there are several transition metals that will catalyze this reaction. Even gold. Many people on this forum like gold, perhaps they will find this interesting?

Yes, the reverse WGS reaction - I wish to generate CO. I sent you a PM about it. Just for anyone else listening - I know CO is abominably dangerous and no, I'm not trying to top myself. The 4 species would have some equilibrium ratio, dependent on T & P, so I would need a method for extracting the CO and H2O so as to favor their continued production - exactly the opposite of the article you cite.

I sent you a PM about it a couple of days ago, but I realize the PM notification is hardly noticeable.

OK, I still don't see why you would want to do the reverse-water-gas shift reaction when there are plenty of easier ways to go about getting CO.

Quote from: Wikipedia
A major industrial source of CO is producer gas, a mixture containing mostly carbon monoxide and nitrogen, formed by combustion of carbon in air at high temperature when there is an excess of carbon. In an oven, air is passed through a bed of coke. The initially produced CO2 equilibrates with the remaining hot carbon to give CO. The reaction of O2 with carbon to give CO is described as the Boudouard equilibrium. Above 800 °C, CO is the predominant product:
O2 + 2 C → 2 CO (ΔH = −221 kJ/mol)
Another source is "water gas", a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide produced via the endothermic reaction of steam and carbon:
H2O + C → H2 + CO (ΔH = +131 kJ/mol)

For the second reaction, you could then pass the gas over the palladium membrane to remove the hydrogen, leaving pure CO.

I also found this webpage which describes a simple, easy way to generate pure CO on a benchtop scale. They just mix conc. sulfuric acid and formic acid, which dehydrates the formic acid, releasing CO.
HCOOH + cat. H2SO4 --> H2O + CO

I suppose I should think about where the gasses come from, but where I work we just order cylinders of gasses. In my lab we have big tanks of CO, H2, syngas(CO + H2, in 1:1 and 2:1 ratios), compressed air, N2, He, and CO2 all lined up in a row. We also have a very sensitive CO/CO2 monitor right above these tanks for safety.

Just ignited.  So many people counted on a drop this Thursday and weekend - but there was no drop on Thursday and I bet that there will be no on the weekend - many bears will be buying.

Why were people expecting a drop on Thursday by the way?
Because there were drops two previous Thursdays (and because it is in line with the weekend drop theory).  That is true that the volume is very small - that's why it is *secret* rocket.  It is a long shot - do you prefer the threads like 'I have a reason to believe that the price is now around 12'?

I can guarantee that the price will drop every weekend except on those weekends when it doesn't.
516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-Qt will not start on Mac on: October 13, 2012, 01:12:40 PM
What version if OSX are you running? 10.5 and lower are no longer supported by Bitcoin-Qt. See here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117874.0

I have OSX 10.5, why is it no longer supported?

I have run into a few programs that are no longer supported on my "older" OSX, it is just a few years old. This is very frustrating, I suppose it is time to upgrade my computer anyway.
517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-Qt will not start on Mac on: October 13, 2012, 06:15:31 AM
I don't see any windows open. You are saying that once I tell it to open, it does not even bring up a window until it loads the block chain? Not even something to say how far it has progressed? How do I even know it is doing anything?
518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Bitcoin-Qt will not start on Mac on: October 13, 2012, 06:00:00 AM
Hi, I was just trying to install bitcoin on a mac, I just downloaded the latest version from bitcoin.org. When I click on Bitcoin-Qt, The bitcoin icon bounces a couple times in my dock, then it goes away. I don't get any messages or anything.

Any ideas on how to make it run?
519  Economy / Services / Re: I will answer chemistry questions on: October 13, 2012, 04:36:56 AM
How can I distinguish and separate the following 4 molecules which are in equilibrium at high temperature: H2, CO, CO2, H2O.

This is the water gas shift reaction:  H2+CO2 -> CO+H2O

Can you tell me the equilibrium proportions of these four species as a function of temperature?

What is a good catalyst to speed the forward reaction? Would the same catalyst also speed the reverse reaction, or would a different catalyst work better?

520  Economy / Goods / Re: Amazon.com $100 claim code for $102 BTC equivalent on: October 13, 2012, 03:32:22 AM
Any examples for Amazon codes with a value >=$100 selling for less?

My latest transaction was buying an amazon card, 5$, at about 85% of current market price. It was back when dollars were going for about 90-100 mBTC, I only paid 80 mBTC per dollar for the gift card.
