481  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE is offline We will update our users on Saturday. on: October 17, 2012, 07:55:26 PM
According to the new article on the magazine site, he has over 800+ accounts to wade through. And this apparently is not an easy matter to do, and involved considerable time sorting them into batches and then manually processing the payouts.

Which, like everything else involving this exchange and this exchange operator in particular, is nothing but pure hot air.

Wait, you are saying he is doing all the processing MANUALLY? I guess that explains why the amounts are rounded.

I feel like there should be a simple script that would take the entered information (btc address, email address) and the account current balance, then (after checking to make sure they are valid) send the btc to the address and an email to the email address saying the process is complete. Is this really so difficult?

I seem to remember hearing something about single transactions with multiple outputs. Couldn't he just send one transaction to deliver a whole bunch of accounts their btc?
482  Economy / Economics / Re: Let's compare USD and BTC on: October 17, 2012, 04:50:44 PM
Well, for one, the US dollar is a liability. In the dollar's case, it's a liability of the Federal Reserve System. Euros are a liability of the ECB. Yen are liabilities of the Bank of Japan etc. You can actually see the liability-nature of the dollar by looking at the Fed's balance sheet:

http://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/h41/current/

Note that the Fed has got 1.136 trillion in outstanding currency liabilities.

Bitcoin, on the other hand, is not a liability of any institution.

So USD is a liability, but BTC is an asset. USD represents the future value that will be imparted to it, which is uncertain. BTC represents the past value that was put into it, which is certain since it is already past.
483  Economy / Economics / Re: Why are people running around saying Bitcoin is intangible / not backed? on: October 17, 2012, 04:46:09 PM
Gold is backed by Bitcoin because i will always buy 1 once of gold for 1 satoshi.
The question is not what back up bitcoin but what is backed by bitcoin.
Bitcoin is fundamental and backed by FAITH.

Taking total gold estimate from here, which is just an estimate, and using the total ever bitcoin amount of 21 million, there is about 0.004 bitcoins per.

If gold and bitcoin were backing each other (trading at that price, 4 mBTC per ounce gold) the price of bitcoins would be about 430 000 USD.

To say you will buy gold at 1 satoshi per ounce, you would need about 52 btc to back up the entire world supply of gold.
484  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - dank soul guarantee - 1.2%-2.0% weekly - New music Oct. 14 on: October 17, 2012, 04:23:05 PM
You shouldn't be mixing your dank bank with your music. Make a new thread for that. You are just inviting more trolling.

On this forum we have to extremes. On the one hand there is Atlas, who makes a new thread for every thought that crosses his mind. On the other hand we have Dank, who puts everything in a single thread, no matter how unrelated. (and before you get excited, I know I am exagerating a tiny bit, Dank has at least two threads)

OK, I still don't see why you would want to do the reverse-water-gas shift reaction when there are plenty of easier ways to go about getting CO.
I'm trying to revolutionize the world, of course (like any self-respecting scientist). And this is the part I'd like to keep secret for a while longer, though I'd say google could probably tell you why if you search around the topic a bit. And my masterplan requires me to generate CO from H2 and CO2; reduction of O2, CO2 or H2O with C is not an option.

what possible use would you have for making carbon monoxide?

Hrm, let's see: he is taking CO2 + H2 -> CO + H2O, but he doesn't want to start with C. Trying to do some carbon sequestering of atmospheric CO2?

CO can be added to meat packaging to prevent spoilage.

CO can be used in some chemical reactions as a starting material. (One reaction I run sometimes is hydroformylation, where CO and H2 are added to an alkene to form an aldehyde).
486  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] BDK.BND (1%/week) *IN DEFAULT* on: October 17, 2012, 01:53:18 PM
Still don't have a db verifying unit-holders, so interest won't be accruing for anyone today

Why does it matter wether unit-holders have been validated? You know how many shares are out and how much you owe to each of those shares, the interest should still be accruing. It should not matter who owns the shares, they should still be earning interest until this is all sorted out.
I am unable to pay off debt due to circumstances outside my control, increasing the interest I have to pay out as I'd otherwise be paying off principal. I'm not taking the liability of interest payments due to GLBSE's failure to give me a db immediately after or prior to shutdown as any reasonable company would do. Someone may successfully sue me for lost interest, and I'll use that as a basis to sue GLBSE. Otherwise, I'm not willing to negotiate this... unless the JRO debt is purchased and I'm feeling a bit less like a wroth, selfish asshole. Smiley

OK, that makes sense. Have you received any communication from GLBSE as an asset issuer?
487  Economy / Speculation / Re: secret rocket? on: October 16, 2012, 07:58:42 PM
If the new people were genuinely interested in the forum they cannot miss the barrage of negative news concerning bitcoin.
If i was new then i'd think twice before investing in anything bitcoin. I would be curious, but i would consider investing a big risk.

Investing in Bitcoin has always been a big risk. The most prominent people in Bitcoin (like Gavin) often start by saying bitcoin is an immature technology and is high risk.

How to Break Bad?

I think your answer was already discussed farther up in the thread? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117658.msg1263761#msg1263761
489  Other / Off-topic / Re: Work on: October 16, 2012, 07:48:43 PM
dank, there is absolutely nothing original about your ideas - including your idea that a whole generation should turn on and drop out - they were common in young adults 40 years ago.  Just because an idea, a realisation or an experience is new to you doesn't mean it's never been thought of, realised or experienced by others in the past - I belong to the Age of Aquarius generation and I can assure you that you're saying nothing which wasn't said by the hippies of the 1960s and 1970s.

So where did they go wrong? At what point did they stop dropping out? How can we learn from their experience to make it really work this time?
490  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer: Dank on: October 16, 2012, 07:42:59 PM
Pharmaceuticals are horrible excuses for drugs compared to Mother nature.  Weed cures all.

Yeah, why take well understood, well defined, purified and measured chemicals when instead you can opt for the unknown coctails of chemicals in unknown amounts mixed with known carcinogens!
491  Other / Off-topic / Re: Work on: October 16, 2012, 05:00:23 PM
Actually, Dank is not so far off from reality.

I live in a commune, albeit a very small one. There are only five of us. We often need resources from outside, so I earn money at a day job (none of the other four people are employed.) Two of us are in school full time. One spends her time maintaining our commune and also does what she loves, playing the flute. The last guy just sits around all day (well to be honest, he can barely walk and can't talk yet). We never transfer money between ourselves, but work gets done because we want it to be done.

 Grin

Nature is an equilibrium of everything.  If people want new roads to drive on, they'll build them.  Nothing about singing in a bar (unless it's a hookah bar!) or being a critic sounds appealing to me, for example.

OK, say I wake up one day and say "I really want to build a road from here to Dank's house". I have no money (since there is no money in this scenario). How do I get the resources I need to build the road? How do I organize other people to help me build the road?
493  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer: Dank on: October 15, 2012, 09:26:46 PM
Well that is even more pathetic, because clearly your best isn't good enough. You're not going to be a famous musician. You aren't going to be a famous anything. You're a nobody, a complete non-entity. When you die, you will turn to dust and soon after everyone will have forgotten that you ever existed.  You're nothing. Just like your father.

lol, that's a little harsh. Relatively speaking, dank is semi-famous in bitcoin securities and lending. More than can be said about you, CharlieContent!

dank will surely find success somewhere between the hookah bar, the weed growing op, and his musical aspirations. Somebody get this guy some adderall from SR for his ADD!

Really though, dank just needs a better pitch for his HYIP. Why not stick with the tried and true "market arbitration"? How did the sex change pitch work out for that transsexual guy? Maybe team up with herm..

I feel I must disagree with you simply based on our names. Wink

Being famous on an obscure forum dedicated to an obscure internet money system populated by geeks and scammers is not saying very much. Just look at who else is famous: Atlas, MatthewNWright, Pirate. Not good company to keep.

Dank will never find success because he does not have the attention span and drive needed to accomplish anything. Even taking drugs he would not have the motivation and skills needed to amount to anything.
494  Other / Off-topic / Re: Looking for good Paleo Diet recipes on: October 15, 2012, 09:12:07 PM
I don't eat grains when I cook for myself anymore but I still have cheese, butter, dark chocolate and potatoes. I'm not convinced that diary is a major problem in small amounts and one potato every few meals is not a major amount of carbohydrate (which a lot of people following the paleo diet get paranoid about). And if you are basing the diet decision on what hunter-gatherers ate, I believe they did eat potatoes and other starchy vegetables, though maybe they didn't? It depends largely on location of-course. Diet changes massively depending on what food sources are available.

Potatoes as of a few hundred years ago were much different than potatoes today. They, like many plant species, have been bred to emphasize desired qualities, in this case a very large, starchy tuber.

A string broke so I had to play with the lower four.

It committed suicide in preference to suffering a life of continuing abuse.  And what kind of guitarist doesn't have spare strings lying around?

Maybe Dank needs to ask for a loan to buy a new string?

Is there a bitcoin accepting merchant who sells guitar strings?

Dank: You broke the B-string?

Nothing is stopping you from forming a moneyless commune with like-minded friends. It could be a great experiment.
499  Other / Off-topic / Re: So, I applied for several jobs at a local jail. on: October 15, 2012, 01:39:09 AM

It's a shame there's nothing that could be done on the internet to earn a living, therefore people could stay home and work, thus not having to commute to some city or town tens of miles away to earn their bread and butter so come Friday they can go to Walmart and purchase bread and butter. If only there were an internet foundation thingy to bring this brainfart of mine to fruition, then people like Atlas wouldn't be in this rat trap any longer.

~Bruno~

What is this commute thing you speak of?  Tongue I got a good paying job and moved close to it. Right by where I work is a high school, I can hear the marching band playing from home even when all my windows are closed.

Staff/mods can't merge threads.

You may not be able to merge threads, but could we lock one thread after posting a link to the other thread?
