861  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: How to Identify a Ponzi on: September 05, 2012, 11:38:58 PM

9. They have "Pass-Throughs".
Tentatively this seems like a good indicator. I don't think pass-throughs are typically used in regular project funding.  It increases the distance between the investor and the fund-owner and acts as a shield/distraction.  It is more indicative of money laundering.

I don't think this is generally applicable. Do you have any examples other than Pirate? An example of a legitimate pass-through is the GSDPT (Gamma satoshiDice pass through), which allows people using one exchange to invest in an asset listed on another exchange.

I also am confused as to why my gender has any bearing on this discussion.

The way you attack drugs and stuff, I totally thought you were a chick too. Your writing just has a feminine, nannyish tone.
863  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Entire World Just Found Out about Bitcoin! on: September 05, 2012, 11:16:42 PM
Mitt Romney did this himself, and he has secretly been investing in bitcoins the past few months. His plan all along was to make a big deal out of not sharing his tax returns so everybody would notice when they were "stolen". Then suddenly everybody finds out about bitcoins, the price spikes as people rush into this wonderful new currency, and he sells his massive bitcoin holdings at a hefty profit. Then he can retire, if he doesn't get elected president.

Ok, now I am going to take off the tin-foil hat and go back to normal.
864  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Islamic Bank of Bitcoin{}بنك بتكوين الاسلامي on: September 05, 2012, 10:24:43 PM
1,000 shares @  ~ 0.30 btc ,enough to develop a proper website + server costs + invest in some mining shares to get dividends

Why not 500 @ 0.6, which is close to the current price? 0.3 is below what I paid for the shares I own.

Why not 10000 at .6? Think big!

I agree that something like the average price of the past month or something would be a fairer price.

With all the love for .308, I am surprised nobody has picked the M-14 over the M-16?
866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop trusting "online" "banks" for bitcoin on: September 05, 2012, 07:22:03 PM
Seriously this is getting retarded, everyone deposists some stupid amount of bitcoins based on an impossibly high "interest rate" (something that is inherently impossible in a deflationary currency such as bitcoin, doubly so since to my knowledge) and then acts surprised when all their bitcoins suspisciously vanish. This is happened like 10 times now and every time it's blamed on "hackers" although frankly the site ops could just steal all the bitcoins and nothing could be done about it.
Also stop claiming that ponzi schemes are a winning system; They're not.

Currently bitcoin is not deflating, it is inflating at a much higher rate than the USD. (50 new bitcoins are added every 10 minutes)

They shouldn't stop. I prefer the situation when most of coins will be in hands of clever guys. Not-so-clever ones deserve to lose all their coins.

But the scammers do not just hold onto the coins, they sell them on the open market to the next bunch of marks. Rinse and repeat.

There was another thread covering this topic. Maybe I can find the link? Here you go: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=105929.0

870  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] V.HRL Vendor's High Risk Loan up to 3% interest weekly on: September 05, 2012, 12:41:03 PM
At 40 percent if OBSI become worthless overnight, I still be able to pay out 1% weekly. Now we are at 40% but I planing to drop it even further down.
If anyone invests with you after seeing you write this, they are dumber than a box of rocks. If you take a loss of 40% of value, you can't continue to pay out dividends. You would have to distribute the losses to your investors. In order to pay out dividends, you have to have assets that exceed the value of your investment. Otherwise, you are a Ponzi scheme, your principal will dwindle as you continue to make dividend payments, and you will collapse.

I guess the question here is wether you are paying out all the earnings currently, or if you are only paying out a portion and saving the rest to grow?
871  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Ebook publisher on: September 05, 2012, 03:09:24 AM
Would you just collect old books from other people, or would you be publishing fresh books? It is kind of a chicken/egg thing, you won't be able to attract good authors until you have a large readership, and you won't be able to attract a large readership until you have some good authors to offer. Publishing is all about marketing, and it is hard work to get started.

Way more resources than what we have, we need to go to space. To the stars if possible.

Waste of time.  There isn't any carbon in space.

Check out the moons of Jupiter, at least one of them is covered in oceans of methane.

Let me know if I forgot to add your favorite to the list.

And ... discuss.
875  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Not afraid of risk? Get up to 1% daily! - OBSI.HRPT on: September 05, 2012, 02:00:08 AM
Obsi, do you have anything to say in response to the accusation that you are running a ponzi scam? Or are you just going to ignore it and hope people keep investing anyway?
876  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] V.HRL Vendor's High Risk Loan up to 3% interest weekly on: September 04, 2012, 01:47:37 PM
Regarding to OBSI.HRPT. At the beginning I will maintain an approximate 50% or even above, just to get the NAV/bond ratio high. I  am aiming at 1.05 by the time the first 8 week reinvesting period is over. If I manage to keep it higher I will. It will give an overall security for this bond in the long term, but increasing the risk in short term.

Wow, 50% in one of the riskiest assets available on GLBSE, which many are claiming must be a ponzi or scam? It is almost to the level that this is a pass-through to OBSI, which is silly since anybody could just buy OBSI if they want to take that risk. I would suggest diversifying more, even if it does mean a lower return.

It is a lie to suggest prohibition does not work.
It depends what the desired outcome of 'WORKED' is, in your statement.
Does it work, to allow for free markets to emerge and the accumulation of wealth by opportunists at large ? THEN YES, it works.

Perhaps we can say prohibition has worked because it keeps so many law-enforcement officers so busy, and gives them great excuses to knock down doors in the middle of the night?

Updated Dank Glass logo.  Dank Glass will sell a variety of quality pipes for BTC.

Drugs are a terrible scourge upon the human race.  They ruin people's health, their relationships, and their mental and bodily clarity.  You should be ashamed to consider such a business plan and I hope you reconsider.  You should also note that the sale of paraphernalia intended for illegal use is itself a crime in most civilized countries.  Anyone who has fallen victim to drugs and is considering a purchase from this man can find the best help available here.

You should not dilute the brand of your profitable and honest banking business with this sort of shady nonsense.

Meh. Drugs are bad, ok. I dont use any myself (except for caffeine, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, occasionally ethanol, calcium carbonate, acetylsalicylic acid, pseudominophen, etc) but that doesn't mean other people should not have the choice to use them. I bet you even use some drugs yourself. You probably have mind altering drugs growing in your own back yard. (My wife grows salvia and morning glories because they have pretty flowers). Who is to say one particular chemical is evil?

This seems rather off-topic, should these posts be split into a separate thread?
879  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Is pirate considered a scammer by Bitcoin community*? Poll:vote/view results on: September 01, 2012, 02:27:16 AM
....the point where it is blatantly obvious that he will not be paying back.....If a legal case emerges.......

...that holds weight in a court of law......if the judge makes pirate pay back in BTC rather than USD

.......There are crazies on both sides of the fence...  Tongue

Being one of the local 'Crazies' as well as a believer in the possibility of Legal action, I do not think that a BTC 'payout' would be possible for a judge to hand down.

If/when Bitcoin finds it's day in court, I believe that it may very well be treated as a 'Commodity' and not a 'Currency'.

Although we use the term 'Mining' when referring to the generation of Bitcoins, the reality is, it can be better compared to 'Agriculture' or FARMING...either Livestock or Grown Food, both of which are commodities and can be either grown/produced/birthed OR purchased using a fiat currency.

Animals that are birthed on a farm have value, can be traded and are worth just as much as the same animal of comparable age etc, if acquired using fiat.
The same rings true for fruit, vegetables, plants and anything else that makes up a Farm's ability to sustain itself and prosper in the future.

From a Legal standpoint, Bitcoin has a far greater chance as a commodity than a currency.

Bitcoins do not grow old and die. You do not have to feed them either. They just sit around waiting to be spent, they are not good for much else. To me they resemble gold much more than fruit or cows.
880  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Idea] Investment Rating Service on: August 31, 2012, 09:21:46 PM
If you think there's a market for this service start a competing exchange that performs a preliminary audit prior to listing as well as enforcing requirements for transparency and good accounting practices. Charge more for your service in order to cover the cost of the audits. If people value the additional scrutiny then they'll be willing to pay for it.

Would it be unbiased if the people paying for the rating are the ones getting the rating? But I am not sure how else to keep it going, unless you can get enough donations?

The idea of a rating service has been suggested many times before, people clearly want one, but there has just been no follow through before. I think a few of the investment funds (MOVETO.FUND and BLUECHIP, EG) could use such a rating to screen possible investments, and it would be good for the casual investors too.

You would also need a quallified accountant to actually do the auditing. Do all the companies on the GLBSE even follow the same (or any) accounting practices?
