961  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - Want a piece of SatoshiDICE? IPO this week before new site launch! on: August 20, 2012, 10:26:32 PM
Gah.... again, the site valuation is based on NOT assuming growth, but on current revenues/profits. If "parabolic growth" occurs, then great, but it's certainly not an assumption. The offering makes financial sense for an investor even with near zero growth.

With no growth, the "investment" takes 10 years to pay off.

It may take 10 years for the investment to double your money from the dividend, but at any point you would be able to sell and recover your initial investment (assuming there is still a market and bitcoin still exists, etc). Since when does your money have to double to "pay off"?
962  Economy / Securities / Re: Simple IPO idea for your evaluation - buying equipment and tools on: August 20, 2012, 07:32:59 PM
So you are estimating a 3% income per month? Sounds like an interesting endeavor, just the kind of thing that the bitcoin investment world is good at. I would consider investing a bit.

OK, what's the satoshi disappearing shit?

When bitcoins were first introduced, Satoshi was active on the forums and helped the developement team. Then he just stopped posting. Nobody knows who he was (except maybe Gavin, but he won't say one way or another). Satoshi might be one of the dev team, or just one of us, or he might have just walked away from his creation. Nobody knows.

I have to say I agree with EskimoBob, it is taken out of context. He was not praising you, he was dissing you. To use that as an advertisement is a bit shady to say the least. If nobody is saying anything nice about you, just don't quote anybody.

This was more of a sarcastic blow aimed at him since he sits on IRC calling all the mining bonds 'turds' and talking about how he will launch a much better security 'soon'.

I wanted to highlight that he was all talk, with nothing to back it up. His constant attacks are merely self-serving tactics designed to increase his profits at the expense of the people he is supposedly helping.

Think about it, he's been badmouthing fixed MHS bonds for how long? Yet he held some of my fixed MHS bond and made a large profit from it? So he badmouths an offering, buys the cheap shares/bonds that result from his 'drama' then sits on them collecting a much higher (as a percentage) dividend.

I am by no means defending fixed MHS bonds... difficulty is set to explode when ASICs hit, but I take care of my investors to the best of my abilities and it shows in my actions. What do his actions say about his character?

So it is more poking fun at EskimoBob, rather than advertising for your bond? I guess if one was familiar with EskimoBob's conversations it makes sense, sort of. It is still a dumb thing to have as your signature.
965  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Not afraid of risk? Get up to 1% daily! - OBSI.HRPT on: August 18, 2012, 04:45:51 PM
Obsi, remove my name and the quote from your signature at once.  It's misleading and out of context.

I have to say I agree with EskimoBob, it is taken out of context. He was not praising you, he was dissing you. To use that as an advertisement is a bit shady to say the least. If nobody is saying anything nice about you, just don't quote anybody.
966  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Savings & Trust closing! Effect on market? on: August 18, 2012, 10:10:02 AM
Assuming he does pay everything back ...

All the investors who had depoits now have btc, they want to cash out, this will drive down price.

How much of the recent rise in price has been people bringing in money to invest in Pirate? Now that he is closing up shop, they will stop bring in money, this will also drive price down.

Since the price will stop rising, many miners/speculators will try to sell quickly to get the highest rate on their bitcoins, this will also cause the price to go down.

Dropping price will cause panic sells, this will also push down the price.

The sudden announcement from Pirate causes uncertainty in the market, this causes people to more cautiously invest, this allows the price to drop precipitiously.

All indicators are for downward movement, by my reconing.

As I stated above, I suspected the immediate affect would be a drop in price. I had an order sitting at MtGox for $10.65, the price dropped to $10.60. While I just got my trade in, and it looks like I was really smart, it was mostly just luck on my part. I had no way of guessing exactly where the price would drop to, but I am happy I got my trade in. Big moves are still possible, so we will just have to see where things go from here.

Unless your initial assumption is wrong. In that case, people will own 100Ks of BTC less than they thought.

yes, that would be the brutal thing.  Leverage all your fiat to buy high yielding BTC......aaaaaand it's gone.  That would remove a lot of buyers from ever coming back.

Like they always say, "Don't invest more than you are prepared to lose"

I have no direct exsposure to Pirate, anybody else clean of this mess with me?

969  Economy / Securities / Re: Weekly loss of N% guaranteed - Enjoy perpetual loss with fixed Mh/s mining turds on: August 17, 2012, 07:02:32 PM

ASIC's coming out is actually beneficial to those people who are getting them.

But ASIC's coming out are not helpful to people who are holding a bond for "1 MHs", since ASIC's will certainly increase the total hashrate and therefore the difficulty, so your 1 MHs will certainly earn less.
970  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is anyone going insane? on: August 17, 2012, 06:35:43 PM
This doesn't excite me too much anymore. I'm a veteran. I went through all this last year. Had sleepless nights for weeks when the price crawled up from $5 to $10, $15..... When my money finally arrived at MtGox I bought at $30.

Muahahahaha! Suckers! You don't know the pain! You just don't know the pain!!

You must have gotten into bitcoins just before I did. By the time my money cleared to an exchange, the price had dropped below 15 USD/BTC. Looks like it has just about recovered Smiley
971  Economy / Securities / Re: Weekly loss of N% guaranteed - Enjoy perpetual loss with fixed Mh/s mining turds on: August 17, 2012, 06:32:38 PM
If one is making money in the bitcoin environment, then it is advantageous to have bitcoins continue. One could purchase some mining bonds to help continue bitcoin mining, and thus bitcoins. Even though the bonds themselves are not making a viable return on the investment, they perpetuate the bitcoin system, thus preserving the rest of this ones hypothetical business.
972  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Not afraid of risk? Get up to 1% daily! - OBSI.HRPT on: August 17, 2012, 05:57:34 PM
Maybe instead of saying "dumbed-down" you could say "here, let me simplify it for clarity". Thanks for going through that, it was nicely simple and made the situation more easy to understand.

If I may make a guess, it sounds like Obsi is investing in some sort of short-term loan system. These usually have very high rates and fees, but for people who have bad credit they are sometimes the only option, so it is not strange to have such a high rate of return. I presume he does not want to disclose who is receiving the money because they have a limit of incoming capital needed, and if we all go invest with them Obsi would have less oportunity to invest. The morality/ethics of such institutions can be debated (I don't think Senbonzakura is going to invest here anytime soon) but it is not completely unrealistic from the bits and pieces Obsi has let out.

Please correct me if I am wrong (maybe you can say if I am on the right track?)
973  Economy / Securities / Re: BTCMC share price down nearly 40% this week. on: August 17, 2012, 12:51:04 AM
Wow, what's been going on with BTCMC this week, and today especially?  Huge wall of sell orders with no buyers.  Price has dropped from the high 70s down to 50 over the last couple of days.

Possibly because the dividend yield isn't as high as with other mining operations?

https://glbse.com/asset/view/BTCMC

With the nature of mining how it is, all these mining companies are doing the same thing. So the prices will adjust until they all give the same relative return.
974  Economy / Securities / Re: Using CC to invest in GLBSE? on: August 17, 2012, 12:48:05 AM
The returns on many GLBSE issues are greater than the rate for the credit card, so it is not a completely insane idea. GLBSE issues tend to be high risk to get that high return, so you have to be careful. Bitcoins themselves are high risk. Bottom line, I would not suggest borrowing more than you would be able to pay back if you lose everything.

Perhaps a better idea would be taking a portion of your income to invest, sort of like putting money into a retirement fund (just much more high risk).
975  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Not afraid of risk? Get up to 1% daily! - OBSI.HRPT on: August 17, 2012, 12:43:07 AM
The way it takes a couple days to ramp back up to 1% is a bit indicative that it is not a scam, that it does take time to get the money into the business.

I am still not completely convinced, but I am optimistic.
976  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] V.HRL Vendor's High Risk Loan 3% interest weekly on: August 16, 2012, 07:50:07 PM
This is a High Risk Loan with a face value of 1 BTC. Each bond will pay 0.03 BTC on every Wednesday.

The nature of the recipient of the loan will not be discussed.

This loan is not guaranteed and is provided on a best effort basis.

The issuer reserves the right to repurchase the bond at any time at a price equal to 1.05 times the 5 day average trading price on GLBSE.

Additional bonds may be issued at 1 BTC face value price.

IMO this probably won't be allowed to list as-is, I sent you a PM regarding this.

Thanks for your kind advice usagi. You know how to deal with newcomers, I guess. I do not have to feel guilty just because I am new here and trying to launch a security.  Smiley

It is not because you are new. If the oldest person here listed those details we would rip them too.
977  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How Large is BTCST exposure? on: August 16, 2012, 02:23:57 PM
Not if its a ponzi.  Because everyone will demand to see the txn that stole the coins on the blockchain. And that txn wont have enough coins.

This is an excellent point. I've never thought of that before.

He won't be able to claim that myriad exchange accounts were also hacked?

Maybe he will say he converted it all to USD and was mugged in a back alley and they stole his suitcase full of cash?
978  Economy / Securities / Re: funding startups (I myself might want to do this with android apps) on: August 16, 2012, 03:26:21 AM

Lastly I wonder if people here are interested investing in software projects with rather long term goals when they get promised 8% per week with all the other investments. Are there any traditional projects other than mining operations on GLBSE?

Yes, there are a few GLBSE companies which are not mining or Pirate or just holding funds. Having a detailed business plan (and an actual describable business for that matter) is a great way to attract investors. Many GLBSE investors are looking for something less risky than the Pirate pass through to balance their portfolio.

Do you have any complete projects you could provide as examples of your work?
979  Other / Politics & Society / Re: DHS SECURES OVER 1 BILLION HOLLOW POINT ROUNDS IN UNDER 1 YEAR on: August 16, 2012, 02:42:44 AM
Follow the money. I am sure the companies who make these rounds are run by people who know people in positions of power in the government. It is just another way for the rich guys in congress to give some more money to their rich friends at the expense of the taxpayers.
980  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who or what is behind the recent price increase? on: August 16, 2012, 02:33:17 AM
Since Iran has sanctions on them, bitcoin is the only other method to conduct business.

How exactly would that work? Say I am an executive of a factory in Iran weaving fancy carpets that I can't sell in the US or Germany due to trade sanctions. How exactly would Bitcoin help?

Another example - I'm an executive of Iranian Airlines, and western companies are banned from selling me repair parts. How would Bitcoin help me with the maintenance of the fleet?

I know this is the "speculation" board, but we should speculate based on reason and facts.

Weave carpet. Sell for bitcoins. Send carpet to buyer.

Send bitcoins to associate in country with airplane making parts, EG Germany. Associate transfers funds from bitcoins to Euros, buys parts. Associate transports parts to you.

There are lots of ways which bitcoins can be used to move capital around, you just have to be creative.
