A forum is probably not the best platform to do trading. There are other sites that are designed for selling things with bitcoin. Let's just keep this forum simple.
562  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE is offline We will update our users on Saturday. on: October 09, 2012, 12:19:04 AM
I was planning to get fully verified on glbse and launch an IPO... Pretty glad I didn't now.
Personally, more than I'm worried about my own funds on glbse (not a whole lot, about 35BTC) I'm worried about the implications for current asset issuers, who are likely as not violating federal securities law (if US based).

Does anyone have anything about the legal implications of doing a bitcoin IPO in the UK?

GLBSE is in the UK. I think that should answer your question. :-)

If you need to ask what the legal issues are you shouldn't be doing an IPO in the first place.

Seems to have worked for glbse you own: start now, ask lawyer later. Oh, wait, didn't work so well, did it?
563  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - dank soul guarantee - 1.2%-2.0% weekly on: October 08, 2012, 11:34:23 PM

SEC, get out of thread, Dank Bank is not a ponzi or financial institution.

I think you should revisit the dictionary entry on "bank", or did your education not include what a financial institution is?

Update:we will begin processing account closures and returning bitcoin later today.

I think this message has been up all day. Has anybody gotten any money back yet?
565  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - dank soul guarantee - 1.2%-2.0% weekly on: October 08, 2012, 11:12:37 PM
You do realize that actively promoting a criminal act is a criminal act in and of itself, right "Rarity"? Conspiring with "dank" in his alleged criminal enterprise is probably not a wise move.

How about calling yourself a SEC Agent?   Tongue

Do you have any evidence that he is not a SEC agent?
566  Economy / Securities / Re: Is your last Withdraw address on GLBSE the correct one? on: October 08, 2012, 08:41:55 PM
This lack of information is so frustrating. When is GLBSE going to list specific details about the shutdown procedure?

My last withdrawl address was to pay soembody, so I do not controll any money that gets sent there.
567  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - dank soul guarantee - 1.2%-2.0% weekly on: October 08, 2012, 08:35:55 PM
I provided ID to two people, senbonzakura and Eisenhower, to whom I paid back 27 BTC, today.  Dank Bank isn't a ponzi, seriously, with 8 clients, 3 active clients?  Two of which will be receiving their principle back this week, early.

From wiktionary for Bank: "1.An institution where one can place and borrow money and take care of financial affairs."

Other than letting people donate money to you, what other financial services do you offer?

When are you going to start giving out loans?
568  Economy / Services / Re: I can get you diverse academic papers on: October 08, 2012, 08:27:26 PM
The selection of papers available is great. (Sorry, I haven't come back jet. Free bump for that. I don't have much time recently and still going through to what I might need.)

For Example: That's an invaluable service here for anyone just writing his Master/Bachelor thesis.

If I had only known you a view years sooner.
dont university libraries already give you access to thousands of journals?

Yes, if you have access to a university library they can get papers for you. But not everybody has easy access to such an institution.

I have access (through where I work) to most chemistry journals. If there is something you cannot access, I would be willing to try to get it.
569  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Top 10 sites all newbies should know about on: October 08, 2012, 08:20:59 PM

You should take glbse off your list.
570  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - dank soul guarantee - 1.2%-2.0% weekly on: October 08, 2012, 07:59:18 PM
Most people I know don't have a damn clue what they want to learn out of college and mainly want it for the social experience.  You don't need to learn out of a textbook to learn for yourself.

You need to get closer to a better college.

If you don't want to read a textbook, you could go to the source material. Visit a college library, they will have back issues of journals reporting the research.

Or I guess you could go do hundreds of years worth of research by yourself replicating the work of thousands of very smart people. That might take longer though.
571  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE is offline We will update our users on Saturday. on: October 08, 2012, 05:18:10 PM
From GLBSE Website:

Update:we will begin processing account closures and returning bitcoin later today.

I wish Nefario would open a thread or something so we could ask questions.

He says they will return bitcoins. Where are they sending them? I sent in coins from various webwallets, so using the sending address would be a bad thing. My latest withdrawls were payments directly from GLBSE to other people, so the withdrawl addresses would be a bad thing. I don't remember ever giving a "In case GLBSE shuts down send funds here" address?
572  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - dank soul guarantee - 1.2%-2.0% weekly on: October 08, 2012, 04:43:59 PM

What would have come out of me had I gone to college?  Let's see, getting wasted, partying, sacrificing all of my energy to college for four years instead of harnessing it the way I feel is best.  Yeah, I'll pass on college.

Most people who go to college do so to learn things.

I guess you are right, you do not have to go to college. But before you start spouting stupid nonsense about quantum mechanics you should go read a college level textbook. Not having taken any college level physics/calculus classes would make such a book hard to understand, so start by learning calculus and physics. It is possible to teach yourself all these things, but most people find it easier with a professor to guide them.

While you are at the college bookstore, you should pick up a few of the introductory accounting and finance books. Just reading the first couple pages would help you use the right terms for what you are doing at your "bank".
573  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: So, stock exchange is not allowed in usa using bitcoins? on: October 08, 2012, 01:31:17 PM
I am so confused by this GLBSE crap,
What I am asking is it high risk using pure bitcoins for a stock exchange type thing? i am not sure how/why glbse is under attack but anyway since when is bitcoin considered good as USD?

Whats next bitcoin gambling games are gonna get taken down?

I thought bitcoins were pretty safe from this crap.

It is perfectly fine to run a stock exchange using btc in the US, but only if you comply with all the other laws and regulations concerning reporting and permits and liscensing.
574  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Dank Bank Deposits - dank soul guarantee - 1.2%-2.0% weekly on: October 08, 2012, 01:25:57 PM
That's quite a statement to make, there's only one reality?  There is only one true reality, but there are infinite alternate realities our consciousness has created.  Life is one of them.

Dreams our consciousness creates are not reality.  What you think (imagine) inside your mind is not reality.

I've told you this before, but you seem to have forgotten.  Reality is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or might be imagined.
Let's go back to quantum physics, the part where particles change into waves in the absence of a conscious observer.  Dreams are just as real as life, life is but a dream.

Have you ever taken a college physics class, let alone a quantum physics or quantum chemistry class (they teach the same thing from different perspectives)?

In quantum mechanics, a particle does not change into a wave and vice verse, the object just is. The object shares properties of both a particle and a wave, at the same time. This whole thing about "the electron acts as a particle now, but then changes to a wave" is just hand-waving abstraction to help high schoolers try to grasp something very complex.
575  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: MPEx registration fee bumped to 30 BTC. on: October 07, 2012, 07:35:16 PM
The PR person is horrible, they are not what you would want coming from a business. The site is horrible to look at and I can not understand it. How am I supposed to move my Security there? Ltc global is way better, and I do not even own lite coins lol.

What makes you think that you have "a security" or you'd be even remotely considered? Seriously now...

So you are basically saying: Unless you have 3 months of revenue in bitcoin, go away. Clearly, MPEx is not there to provide crowd funding for small projects. Serious entrants only. Unlike GLBSE, the operator does not see this as a "toy".

From a PM to me:
Quote from: Nefario

When GLBSE started, it was a fun project that was mostly a toy, using for all intents and purposes monopoly money.

(I'm a fan of the IBB ideals, I just think he might be ruining it with bad accounting practices.)

you are more than welcome to become ceo of IBB  Cheesy

It doesn't need a new CEO, just a new CFO.
577  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Is pirate considered a scammer by Bitcoin community*? Poll:vote/view results on: October 07, 2012, 01:15:43 PM
Bump, because I still haven't heard any actual movement re: Pirate

Everybody has forgotten about pirate, now we are talking about the GLBSE fiasco.
578  Other / Off-topic / Re: Scientists make gold with bacteria on: October 07, 2012, 01:11:55 PM
From the article:

Quote
Assuming you can actually tell the difference between the two, manufactured gold, if it ever became common, wouldn't be worth as much as the naturally occurring stuff; just as manufactured diamonds aren't nearly as valuable as the ones pulled from the ground.

I think this last sentence is total bunk. It does not matter where the gold came from, or how it was processed, if it is pure then it is just as valuable as any other gold. Because you can't tell the difference.

You could tell the difference if there was a certificate of authenticity, and a demand for biologically condensed gold. I imagine there would also be a corresponding demand for forged certificates of authenticity.

So you are saying this bacterial gold should have a higher price than the stuff from the ground? The article implies the opposite, that the bacterial gold would have a lower price because it is "artificial".
579  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Let's have a little fun then, shall we. on: October 07, 2012, 01:09:41 PM
Maybe you should have lowered the price offered to those people who are on ignore by many people? They tend to have many posts, but that doesn't help you if nobody sees them.

Define "many", please.

Yeah, this would be hard to implement fairly. We can see your ignore button is orange, but what does that actually mean? and how would you quantify that into the price offered? I guess it is better to just leave it as a simple formula.

Nevermind then.
