I guess the thing to do is lead by example. If you stay above the name calling and only post thoughtful responses, and give props to others who do as well, and generally ignore all the immature people, eventually this will be a better place.

How closely will the price of the GLBSE pass through follow the S.DICE price?
Exactly the same Smiley
//DeaDTerra

How will you ensure it remains the same?
Each GSDPT is backed by 1 S.DICE and you can received one 1 S.DICE in trade for 1 GSDPT Smiley
I can't of course control the price but it should controls it self pretty well. I will also offer more share when I get to chance to buy more.
//DeaDTerra
Wouldn't the price of 1 GSDPT be higher then, because a) it is easier to buy and b) it is fully backed by S.DICE?

But the return is lower (DDT takes a cut), so I would expect it to be slightly lower price?

I have to agree about the BS&T thing, and it happens on other topics too. There will be multiple threads about the same topic. People, please just reply in the relevant topic, starting a new one just clutters up the forum and makes it harder to find relevant information.
944  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: glbse on: August 24, 2012, 08:00:47 PM
Looks like it is back up again. Over the past year the GLBSE has been down at times, but Nefario works hard to keep it running, improving and always secure.

How soon would each of these options arrive at your door? Basically, the days of mining with gpu are over.

Perhaps a better title for this thread sould be "Comparing BFL jalepeno to ... some unspecified mining rig"?

948  Economy / Economics / Re: Why a loss in BTC investment could cause BTC price to drop? on: August 24, 2012, 05:39:15 PM
Second, and more immediate is a short-term increase in demand. What does a scammer do with his ill-gained bitcoins? He tries to exchange them for fiat as soon as possible - so he can disappear without getting caught. So he offers large amounts of bitcoins on the market and price, naturally, drops. Investors would either keep them or reinvest them.

Should be "short term increase in supply" not demand.
949  Other / Meta / Re: Demographics of BitcoinTalk on: August 24, 2012, 05:33:12 PM
Thanks for shunting everyone onto the gender binary. Not everyone identifies as 100% male or female.

Either you are capable of bearing children (female) or you are not (male). Seems pretty binary to me?

I think deleting any accounts at this point is a bad idea, you have not yet even included all the most essential functionality. Does it even require any extra resources to have a couple unused (yet) accounts open?

What if an account has a zero balance, but an address from it has already been sent out, then when that person gets paid the money is gone?

Futurefund fails A flat for my purposes here, but if the owner is better-respected I would throw in a few coins as a charitable donation, if anything.

If it is what he says it is, Futurefund would qualify under A. But yeah, it pretty much fails B and C, and leaves room for healthy skepticism on point A.

So you're essentially putting up a barrier of entry of 20 BTC to keep the "citizens" out? Forcing them to either pay you or use a broker/pass through if they wish to trade the assets on your exchange?

This reminds me of the attempts throughout history (lol internet history) to keep the noobs, trolls, and kids out of forums. When things don't go the way they wanted it to, the ones that would complain are going to do so even louder, because they paid someone for the opportunity. I'm not saying it doesn't work to some degree... It's just that it's been tried before.

I'd have to quote here

Quote
Aug 20 16:37:22 <mircea_popescu>   EmanuelDeOrtego actually mpex charges the lowest fee in all of btc.
Aug 20 16:38:19 <EmanuelDeOrtego>   micrea_popescu: Well, that is technically true if you discount the 20 BTC registration which is still fair.
Aug 20 16:38:28 <EmanuelDeOrtego>   I like your model
Aug 20 16:38:31 <mircea_popescu>   yeah, something like that.
Aug 20 16:38:50 <EmanuelDeOrtego>   It lets the markets be more accurate.
Aug 20 16:38:57 <EmanuelDeOrtego>   and you still get the bills paid.
Aug 20 16:39:11 <mircea_popescu>   also cuts out on the drama something fierce.
Aug 20 16:39:29 <mircea_popescu>   put 20 btc entrance barrier, lose 99.999% of all drama.
Aug 20 16:39:32 <mircea_popescu>   seems a good deal to me.
Aug 20 16:39:40 <EmanuelDeOrtego>   Righto.

I imagine the problem is not exactly the loudness as much as the senselessness. People complaining meaningfully about something substantial aren't a liability, they're an asset. When it turns to complaining for lack of activity and in hopes of milking some excitement out of the dreary white collar slave day... that's another matter.

On a side note: maybe you should try the IRC, it really doesn't bite.

I totally read this without noticing who said it and thought "Wow, he really showed that Mircea_Popescu, and even by quoting him makes it more ironic". Then a couple posts later I realized it was he, and his post totally backfired making him look like an idiot.
953  Economy / Securities / Re: (TyGrr) TYGRR.BOND-B .3% weekly dividends GUARANTEED! on: August 24, 2012, 01:41:16 AM
This has not been updated in a while, and the opening post is so edited it is confusing. Is the bond still valid or was it closed out?
954  Economy / Securities / Re: Portfolio suggestions on: August 24, 2012, 01:30:00 AM
Take a look at BitcoinTorrentz. They do not have as high a yield as some, but they have been around a while and are providing a nice service.

Other than that, you are right, there is very few GLBSE companies that deal in goods and services. I think if somebody with some business sense sets up a good business plan do some goods for bitcoin sales or services for bitcoin the GLBSE investors would jump at the opportunity to have something other than mining.

A couple to keep your eye on: CheaperInBitcoins was supposed to be a goods market but I have not heard anything for a while, Rugatu is a Q/A website with rewards in bitcoins, if it catches on the shares could be worth something, Bioethanol seems to be actually making a product but has just recently started and the profits so far have been small, Futurefund probably fails some of your criteria but I find the idea intriguing.

Hope that helped a bit.
955  Economy / Services / Re: HOTWALLET - Secure, Anonymous Web-Wallet (RATED R coarse language and sexuality) on: August 22, 2012, 02:52:58 PM
Is there any protection for the users from you just taking all the bitcoins and dissapearing, like mybitcoin did? I seem to remember a place called something like strongcoin which encrypted the keys so only the user could acces the bitcoins, the site manager never had any access to the coins.

Another question: I don't see it now, but in the future will you add functionality to import/export keys or access things like cassiacius coins?
956  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama or Romney ? on: August 21, 2012, 04:32:46 PM
There are other options to vote for. I plan on voting for Johnson. (but if I had to pick between Obama and Romney I would pick Romney)
957  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ethicality of 100Gh/sec..... on: August 21, 2012, 04:28:23 PM
Perhaps you could explain it to the IT department and say you will pay them something to offset the increased power bill? I would imagine they would just say no, since doing this will wear out all their fancy design computers faster than anticipated.
958  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Bitcoin Savings & Trust - Money Returned List (none reported). on: August 20, 2012, 10:53:02 PM

Uhm where isn't it enough to retire? I will retire when I have amassed far less.

5mil is the bare minimum to retire on in the US after inflation considered. You can expect safe income of about 100k a year. That's not really a lot when you think about it. Unless you live in some awful town.

Are you crazy? How do you possibly need a 100k income to retire on? What are you doing, eating steak every night? That is more than twice the median family income in the US.
959  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: August 20, 2012, 10:39:42 PM
Pretty funny. Say you were given the choice of owning Apple or owning Exxon Mobile. Who in their right mind would choose Apple? Well, the market (and therefore the majority of the people) apparently.

Any day now the supply of oil is going to peak, and Exxon Mobile is going to tank. Or something like that.

Hi,

It looks like a functioning wallet, but I am a bit unsure how it keeps anything safe, since there is no password? Couldn't anybody just type in your username and spend your coins for you?
