762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal set to suspend domestic transactions in Argentina on: September 14, 2012, 04:38:37 PM
according to google, argentina has a GDP of $445 billion.. 4000x more than all bitcoins Smiley

You are comparing apples and oranges here. The GDP is not an equivalent measurement to the number of a currency.
763  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: glbse fees on: September 14, 2012, 03:52:58 PM
If I understand correctly, whoever (buyer or seller) places an order that is not filled immediately, they do not pay a fee. If you place an order and it is filled then you pay a fee.

Another way to look at it: If you are putting an order on the orderbook, no fee. If you are taking an order off the order book, you pay the fee.

As an example: I look at XYZ and see a bid for 0.2 and an ask for 0.4. If I place a bid at 0.3, no fee. If I place an ask at 0.3, no fee. If I place a bid at 0.4, thus filling the standing ask, I pay the fee. If I place an ask at 0.2, thus filling the standing bid, I pay the fee.
764  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] FUTUREFUND - Making the Future Happen on: September 14, 2012, 11:43:06 AM
There is a new motion up for vote:
Code:
Should we add the following text to our GLBSE contract?

"In the event of exceptional circumstances not precisely covered in this contract, latitude and authority rests
with the asset issuer to freely determine and decide the procedure to mitigate the situation at hand. Anything
not explicitly covered in this contract remains in the domain and control of the asset issuer alone."

This will help prevent a situation like the one DMC is currently in the middle of, while maintaining the opportunity for the asset issuer to act freely for the benefit of the asset using his best judgment. Essentially adding the Ninth Amendment to the contract instead of allowing GLBSE to define all acts not explicitly covered in the contract as their domain.

What is going on with DMC (and who is DMC)?

I think this potentially gives too much power to the issuer. Perhaps you could start by stating that anything unforseen will be put to a vote as a motion to clarify, with the issuer having power to make desciscions only if having a vote is impractical?

To be honest, I am now convinced to purchase a .22 handgun, Should i ever buy a handgun (i live in canada its kinda hard to legaly carry a handgun)
I just NEVER even Thought about it! I always had the "i dont want to fucking kill a guy who stole my wallet, I want to Stop him, So im gonna aim for the leg"
Well, Thats kinda hard... Swap to a less lethal bullet, And i should beable to hit the guy in the stomach or back without lethal consequences.

A 22lr can be lethal if you hit the right spot. There is a thread around here somehwere about a 92 year old man who killed an intruder in his house. He used a 22lr rifle. The guy apparently got a couple blocks away before dying, 22lr definately won't knock somebody down and keep them down like a bigger round, but you can still kill people with it.
766  Economy / Securities / Re: (TyGrr) TYGRR.BOND-B 0% weekly dividends GUARANTEED! on: September 13, 2012, 04:24:36 PM
Are you allowed to just change the interest rate like that?

The bond is closed. Please take the BTC. There is a huge wall up on GLBSE.

Thanks.

I already sold my shares a few weeks ago, but I am curious. Doesn't GLBSE have a function to force a buyback now? Seems like there should be a better way to communicate with shareholders than putting up a message at the end of a long forum thread.
767  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which is the BEST military rifle? on: September 13, 2012, 04:02:16 PM
This is why Travon Martin is facing felony charges in Florida, because that ongoing threat is under question.  If you shoot the guy in the back, it all but implies that he was running away, thus no further threat exists.

I tought Travon Martin was dead?  You must mean Zimmerman is being charged.

Kludge, Don't be fooled. You can never escape form bitcoin. You may say you are leaving, but it will pull you back. Once you learn about bitcoins there is no turning back, no forgetting. You are part of us now.

I suppose I could ask "does anybody have me on ignore?"

But the people ignoring me wouldn't answer  Sad
771  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is ponzi? I give 0.05 btc to the best answer on: September 13, 2012, 03:35:45 AM
Let me give an example:

"Want to make a nice profit? 10% guranteed!" You give me $10.

Next day, I give you $1. Wow, you just made 10% in a day. You sell your computer and give me $1000. Now your account is at "$1 010".

Next day I give you $101. Wow, you just made 10% in a day. You mortgage your house and give me $100 000. Now your account is at "$101 010".

The next day you cant find me, I ran away with $100 908.

772  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Not afraid of risk? Get up to 1% daily! - OBSI.HRPT on: September 13, 2012, 03:16:48 AM

Now for a bit of bad news: I will not be releasing any new OBSI.HRPT this Sunday. I usually put up an askwall @ 0.1 BTC for a few hours each Sunday, but the market seems to be shaken and liquidity is lacking. This should give the market a chance to stabilize, and panicky bondholders a chance to get out at a decent price.

Why is that bad news? For current shareholders it is good news because it means the price can go up instead of being held down at the IPO price.

Obsi, any news or update from the mysterious entity you are passing funds through to? How is the lending going?

You guys don't realize I'm good at other things too.  I've just had the most practice with graphic design.

Repentance, I'm plenty interested in large design tasks, I've yet to be offered but one, which they no longer need.

Perhaps you could advertise your design talents to earn some money instead of begging other people to just give it to you?
775  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Remove Marketplace subforum on: September 13, 2012, 02:05:19 AM
The site should be focused on discussing Bitcoin in a civil manner.

Maybe if the mods didn't have to worry about scammer tags stemming from the marketplace, their time would be freed up to moderate some of the personal attacks and blatant trolling that goes on here.

I support this idea. Let other websites worry about creating a marketplace for Bitcoin.

The moderators of this site have made it clear that they take a hands off approach. People are free to discuss what they want, and that includes selling things.

If you want tons of rules and regulations, you are free to start your own forum.

There is a difference between "tons of rules and regulations" and having a specific function. In my opinion, the specific function of a forum (especially one at bitcointalk.org) should be discussion. When the discussion is overrun with threads about scams and the like, a large portion stemming from the forum itself, something is amiss. Useful threads are drowned out in a sea of vitriol.

I have a car that I use for transportation, I don't expect, or want, it to mow the lawn and do my laundry as well.

Maybe you should change your settings to ignore the boards you don't like? Just leave the "bitcoin discussion" as the only viewable board and you will have your wish.

777  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE - request for next features on: September 12, 2012, 09:14:41 PM
I would love it if you got a second chance to log in before having to do a captcha. I realize it's a balance between security and ease of use, but nearly every time I fail the login I end up doing the captcha between 5 and 10 times before I can get back in Sad

Also, the ability to establish a PGP key just in case we are unable to log in would be useful as a backup. We could simple sign a message to you proving our ownership of the account if necessary.

So you are suggesting GLBSE holds onto a database of the public keys corresponding to account emails?
778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the best NEWS SOURCE for bitcoin? on: September 12, 2012, 08:24:57 PM
I like www.bitcointalk.org

Its a pretty useful place to learn about all kinds of goings on.

780  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: stabilizing bitcoin market on: September 12, 2012, 06:40:53 PM
Thank you for this also. I'm reading as fast as possible, making notes, but there's a LOT of data out there now about BTC. I know I'm trying to catch up late so I'm not worried about the amount of information I have to absorb, I'm just worried about missing little details.

So, to put it easier for me to visualize, BTC's are basically the gold in reserve, while "satoshis" are basically what financial transactions will be made on once the amount of purchases begins to pick up?

And regarding the transaction fee, I've read several times that people doing mining will accept a fee in order to prioritize your transaction. That's still correct and has not changed, right?

This was talked about plenty last year as the price suddenly jumped from 1 UDS/BTC to 30 USD/BTC. People will just use smaller units so that they do not have to deal with so many decimal points, but the underlying code does not change.

1 BTC = 1000 mBTC
1 mBTC = 1000 uBTC (microbitcoin, uses prefix mu or alternately u because it is easier to type)
1 uBTC = 100 satoshi

As it has been pointed out, the actual code stores things in satoshis, which are just really small units so we lump them together into bitcoins. Kind of like dollars are made of 100 cents, bitcoins are made of 100 000 000 satoshis.

You can add as much fee as you want to help the system continue. (All fees in a block go to the miner who finds the block). A higher fee puts your transaction higher on the list of transactions to be processed.
