And do you know of any cpu-only coin that are hot right now, make it cpu only and it will FAIL, Your setting it up to fail from the getgo.
Not at all. At first, BTC was CPU-only, and BTC has done, is doing, and will do quite well. That's all I really need to say about that. But...IF a coin can truly be mined ONLY by CPUs, then that is not a bad thing for several reasons. If everyone has relatively the same amount of hash rate available to them, I think that's a good thing. Then, only those willing to mine and those who want to and/or can invest in more powerful CPUs can avoid the CPU-GPU-ASIC arms race that we've seen with other coins. I haven't bought any new SHA mining equipment for 6 months because, unless you're willing to plop down $4,000+, almost all of it will lose money over time. As much as I love mining, I grew tired of that scenario. But if a coin can be mined only on CPUs, the craziness is greatly reduced. Now, I doubt that coins that were intended to be CPU-only can remain that way. There are lots of creative and motivated devs who will find a way to make it minable on GPUs and ASICs. I know that it's more than likely that this will eventually become ASIC as well (it's happening on a not-so-efficient level with GPUs now). The need and demand for CN is definitely going to grow, so whatever happens with mining, it will be worth keeping up with. I'm just enjoying the relative calm now Scrypt ASICs are not quite ready yet. At least it's not delivered. And scrypt was released in 2011. So, basically, we have 3 years before the CN ASIC moment. Don't think that it is a problem now. I'm more concerned by the GPU mining - is current level of hashrate on GPU's is a maximum? Or there is still a room for improvement?

Difficulty went up from 2m to 10m over the last few days. Probably because of GPUs entering the scene.
Did you try it yourself? I mean GPU mining.

why FCN is frozen on poloniex ??
cheers
Amphibian told me that he wrote to the Poloniex support and is waiting for the answer. Can somebody update me how the merge-mining is going with Monero or other cryptonotes? Especially important sub-question: Do you lose any hashing power because you merge mine Fantomcoin with another cryptonote? How do you set-up a mining pool with merge-mine support?
No, you won't lose any hashpower because of the merged mining. There is still no open source pool with merge mining support so you can give it a try and create one yourself.

Why has the price dropped like a stone? I mean 21 sat wtf This is weird. Difficulty goes up and price goes down? There are some shenanigans going on I'm telling you. Maybe someone was dumping once again. It's climbing up back now. Is FCN currency somehow connected with BTC? As a cryptocurrency, FCN is fork of Bytecoin. The BTC system is very different in terms of software, and it's not anonymous (it's pseudo-anonymous). FCN is as anonymous as it gets. However, all cryptocurrencies (CCs) are related to BTC in the way that all fiat currencies are related to the US Dollar. Almost all fiat currency exchanges base their rates on the US Dollar, and in the CC world, CC exchanges base their rates on BTC. Couldn't say better myself. I wonder if this is ever going to change tho. I mean, everything is priced compared to bitcoin now, will it be priced compared to FCN or any other CN currency?

Since this coin is trading at about 20% of QCN and 8% of XMR... Despite having a valuable feature (though maybe tricky to use)... Anybody care to comment... or have ideas for optimizing the price.
i have a great idea. buy buy buy and hodl and then sell with small parts. Sounds like a solid plan to me. Going to add to the giveaway fund few FCNs.

Hi folks!
Today is the last day of the competition! Make sure to submit your work or add few finishing touches to the current ones. 500 FCN and 0.5 BTC are waiting for the it's winners!

Is it possible to MM FantomCoin and LiteCoin?? Or just to choose from BCN, MRO and QCN?
Litecoin is not CN coin, so just choose from available ones like you've said : BCN, MRO and QCN. It is possible to mine both of them as they use different resources. FCN uses CPU and Litecoin uses GPU. But its meaningless as CPU will be overwhelmed. Yes, you can do both on the same computer. For the CPU, mine FCN or another CN coin with simpleminer, minerc, or SoloMiner. For the GPU (Litecoin), use cgminer or a similar miner. The mining app itself (such as cgminer) will use hardly any of your CPU because the mining is done on the GPU. About 1.5 years ago, I mined BTC on the GPU and mined LTC on the CPU of the same computer...no problems. Jesus... Sweet times. Warning: nostalgic wave incoming.

I hope miners fix is going to be implemented soon, in the meantime you can use Minergate's client to mine FCN with a currency you prefer

Minergate miner wont even run on win7 64, do I need to install some other SW?
Working fine on my end. No additional software were installed. What about username and pass? We use Minergate profile, or wallets? Could you post sample CMD? Thanks. BTW Why does hashrate decrease when merge-mining with Minergate 2.0, compared to mining without merge. Thank you.
minerd.exe --algo=cryptonight --url=fcn-mro.pool.minergate.com:5559 --userpass=your_minergate_username:password --threads=7 Password can be absolutely random - 123, qwerty etc. Same as a Bitcoin. Other currencies url's could be found in the post above.

Today Minergate.com pool introduced merged mining option! You can mine FCN with any CryptoNote coin you want.
It's a first MM pool implementation there is and we're very grateful for it!
All open-source lovers can mine using cpuminer-multi (a.k.a. minerd) on Minergate.
Please use this addresses as your --url
FCN+BCN: fcn-bcn.pool.minergate.com:5558 FCN+MRO: fcn-mro.pool.minergate.com:5559 FCN+QCN: fcn-qcn.pool.minergate.com:5560 FCN+duck: fcn-duck.pool.minergate.com:5563
There is a one problem tho which is going to be resolved any time soon: if you're sending stale share to the minergate you're going to get "Unknown job id" error. To fix this error you should stop/start the mining.
Remember that open-source merged mining pool bounty is still on the table.

Was talking to bitcoinbear in PM he said I should post here to the ideas forum. There was this open-source project called DarkMarket which allows for anonymous and decentralized trading of goods and services, with an escrow feature by which a trusted third part (based on voting system) would arbitrate disputes or approve transactions. Since then the original developers all have moved on to other projects except for one of the original people. The DarkMarket project has re-branded itself to OpenBazaar (twitter is @OpenBazaar ). http://www.coindesk.com/darkmarket-alternative-launches-friendlier-title-openbazaar/I wonder could Fantomcoin or other reps from the CryptoNote community try to create a strategic partnership? OpenBazaar has not launched yet, originally they were just going to use Bitcoin for transactions, and anonymize the transactions with DarkWallet (if I am not mistaken). http://www.wired.com/2014/04/dark-wallet/One of the key elements to a coins success is its eventual adoption for actual trade of real goods and services, and merchant adoption. OpenBazaar source appears to be all up on Git: https://github.com/OpenBazaar/OpenBazaarOr alternatively, maybe the CryptoNote community could create their own decentralized marketplace where CryptoNote coins are the medium of exchange of choice? that's a nice idea. cryptonote main feature is absolute anonymity - it sure suits to the OpenBazaar. even darkcoin dev talked about ring signatures and how is it the future of the anonymity. (if i recall correctly) i think bitcoinbear should look into it. Yeah and also fantomcoin is so fantom that darkmarket should pick it up without any hesitation. Its on reddit right now: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/279zjy/openbazaar_previously_know_as_darkmarket_a_fully/Auctions looks really good to me. I know they are not sure they will implement this but still. Auctions with FCN as a main currency would be really really cool. Maybe amphibian could contribute in this project in some way.

Hi,
I've been mining with the deamon for 24 hours yet no coins. What am I doing wrong??
What coins did you mine? Did you use MM? I was just used start_mining in simplewallet to mine on fantomcoind.exe. Shouldn't that work? It should and it will. You can easily calculate how often (in theory) you can find the block using this formula - difficulty/your_hashrate/60/60 = hours until the block find.

+1
show a bit more of the F at the top maybe, other than that great
thinking outside the square
Agreed. More F on the top is necessity. More F: now it looks even more like a diamond We meant that you should point out the upper part of the F since you can't really tell that this is F without watching for some time.
