I'm using statistics and surverys done on the subject, so you are in fact pointing out "facts", not inaccuracies. And according to those statistics 90% of all computers have windows, thats the simple fact. There's no getting around it, and yes you are trying to justify it, don't tell me otherwise when it's obvious by your wording and sentences.

No dude you're full of shit...general statistics on the global computing population don't represent the mining community. Do some research on mining.

Sounds like your opinion is based on your own experience of mining. You know that people run scale-out mining operations on AWS, with Linux? You think the serious GPU guys are putting hard disks into all their rigs and installing fucking billyware?

Sweet jesus

Quote
It is extremely, extremely dishonest/unethical for a coin(dash/darkcoin) to have had 500 coins per block being emitted, to which over 1million coins were mined in under 10 hours, then another 1million mined for the next 30 hours,

I said _nothing_ about that. All I said was that a coin launching with linux-only, windows-only or whatever only is TOTALLY FAIR. You don't have to mine it if you don't want to - how is it unfair?

Until you show me statistics about the mining community, then please shut up. You're not making any sense and I'm starting to think you're a troll. I've presented studies, facts, all you've presented is your ignorant "opinion".

It's fair? Are you dumb? Now, you're just letting your investment do the talking. Shame, I used to do the same.

Let me explain it simpler for you:

1) Dash/Darkcoin was released on linux only, to which less than 2% of computers on Earth have installed
2) There were 500 coins per block at release
3) Over 1million coins were instamined in 10 hours
4) Another 1million+ coins were instamined in the next 30 hours
5) The instamine stops
6) The developers of Dash cut the block reward by more than half
7) They then cut the coin supply from 80million to 20million(Way more than half)
Cool Viola, in that period of time, the extremely small amount of linux users(Which happened to be the developers mostly and friends we can infer) mined over 2million Dashes, all while instantly making those Dashes worth over 3x more than they were when they first started mining, since they cut the coin supply.

BTW, to make that story even sketchier/scammier, at the time, Dash had no future, there were no plans to add anonymity to it, It was called Xcoin back then. This further shows that the instamine was intended and was mostly done by the developer, as there were absolutely no incentives for regular folk to mine this coin since it was just a random clonecoin with no future back then(Still is now, but has more features).
Is that easy enough for your small brain to understand?

Yeah, right  Cheesy
Nice ad hominem.
I am an investor and unlikely crypto afficionado (unlikely, as I am the end user type of guy, no coder or IT guy) and when I read about that instamine story, I did not care at all about Evan, I did not know him. I was initially worried and then I thought "well, he messed it up, but ok, let`s move on, as he seems to be honest and the DRK guys are not too worried either". That was almost a year ago. During that time, Evan kept delivering and seems to me to be a nice competent guy. It has been a year during which everybody and their mom could have mined or bought DRK/DASH. Even I was able to do it.
By the way: I am also rather impressed by the XMR devs and have some XMR as well, as this is rational investor behavior to diversify your portfolio, unlike fanboys who put all eggs in one basket or have signatures showing they have a single affiliation to a single coin - that`s cultish behavior if you ask me.

Thanks.

I have been called both a "frothing nutjob" and now a "fanboy" in this thread, so if nothing else, my skin is thicker for it. So, thanks again.

Unlike you, I wouldn't automatically forgive the devs of the single coin I have focused on since swimming through the sea of filth called Altcoins if they were to completely deceive the community and then say "Oops, my/our bad."

Way to take it personally when I posted my "ad hominem."

Hey not my fault you're arguing over something that's fact. Your opinion on the matter either show just how sadistic you are(By saying the instamine wasn't a scam/dishonest) or just how much money you've invested in Dash. Heads up, I own dashes or coins or whatever. But, I know the difference right and wrong, scam and legit, honestly and dishhonesty. Dash's instamine was wrong, dishonest, basically a scam. There's nothing to counter it with the abundance evidence (I used to try and think of ways that the instamine could have been accidental, now I know it was likely intended).

You said, "Even if they did deliberately exclude windows I don't see this as particularly unethical, it's just the way they chose to launch"

That by itself wouldn't have been an issue. But, they deliberately cut the coin supply and block rewards(Which probably meant they had accumulated a lot of coins from the instamine and wanted to make it more valuable). Also, to show you just how bad this was, as I said in my earlier post, dash/darkcoins name was Xcoin back then. It had no future, no goals, and had nothing about anonymity. It was just released as a random clone of Bitcoin.

I suspect they might have been 'creative' with aspects of the launch, but also suspect they might have just fucked it up a bit. The truth is I don't know for sure so I'm certainly not going to scream 'INSTAMINE' and bang on and on and on (yawn fucking oh my god yawn) about it. What's more important to me is Evan's conduct since the launch, the subsequent distribution of coins, easy mining/availability of coins for months, offered airdrop etc which ultimately render anything around the launch a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

I've pretty much said all this already in this thread.

Which is what I meant. We were talking specifically about mining, not the launch in it's entirety, as you well know.

No, distribution concerning the instamine is just speculation. Internetape still has 100k(He gave away some, but had at minimum 100k after the giveaways were over) coins if we count one of his previous posts on the matter, and he was a darkcoin dev during all this. Evan had at least 300k coins. So the distribution is just speculation, and even then it still likely falls under the, "The coins of the main instaminers were kept and not sold/dumped, as we see almost no posts of evan selling/giving away coins".

As others have also said, Evan works almost full time on Dash for the moment since back in 2014. He was able to most likely do this from the money he gained from the instamine and various pumps/dumps, etc.

Well, ok, so it was neither a scam nor dishonest. They disclosed everything and were transparent and everyone could chose to still trust Evan or not.

Well, ok, so it was neither a scam nor dishonest. They disclosed everything and were transparent and everyone could chose to still trust Evan or not.

Wow, you really let your investments do the talking, and learned absolutely nothing. Whats a dishonest, scam instamine in Dash to making a few bucks over pumps and dumps right?. Anyway, goodbye, if anyone's interested just check my previous post history on this thread to see the information. Or google it, w/e.

No, distribution concerning the instamine is just speculation. Internetape still has 100k(He gave away some, but had at minimum 100k after the giveaways were over) coins if we count one of his previous posts on the matter, and he was a darkcoin dev during all this. Evan had at least 300k coins. So the distribution is just speculation, and even then it still falls under the, "The coins of the main instaminers were kept and not sold/dumped".

As others have also said, Evan works almost full time on Dash for the moment since back in 2014. He was able to most likely do this from the money he gained from the instamine and various pumps/dumps, etc.

Which doesn't hugely bother me to be honest. He's turning out a great coin which has real-world utility and provides a decent ROI. If he's funding his work with mined coins I much prefer this situation to him having never made DASH at all and working in a bank.

Right I'm outta here....hopefully some more interesting technical debate tomorrow rather than done-to-death instamine shizzle.

Well we'll see. Talking real world utility, dash isn't a currency, and can't be because of it' masternodes. Just saying. Yea, investing/making a ROI is great if you follow through some pumps and dumps and that's what I'm doing. The best that Dash can do is become a investment vehicle of some sorts, Though I  highly doubt that would happen outside the altcoin section, as no "legitimate" investor would touch a instamined coin like dash, but each to their own, eh?

Yes, to the technicals. I do find them more interesting than the same instamine talk, though I feel obliged to answer on the topic.

I believe he said on one drunken night on IRC that he had dumped all shortly after he was fired from the team, and also Evan hinted at that being the case. Obviously that's no proof of anything, but everything seemed to match.

Why was he fired? If he was drunk then I probably wouldnt believe him.
