Eugenie Bouchard is back on clay court and has won her first game on clay since 2020, Roland Garros. Is there still potential left in Bouchard or is it just going to be 50+ ranked player, just hanging into the tour under 100 ranked but have no potential?

Big defeat from Kvitova, just to know about the women's singles winner had a search and found Kvitova to win the title. Her first WTA title since Madrid Open (2018). The first set of the match have went to 716-614. The second set was an easy win for Kvitova 6-2. She had won the title, but failed to win the hearts with her attitude. I don't know whether it is right or wrong, but to a child she couldn't have done it.Not Good

Yeah, I agree this is not nice. In her defense, I can say that she has just won the title and the adrenaline kicked in and perhaps she didn't even notice the kid. As to the match itself, imo Rybakina lost to herself not to Kvitova. Too many unforced errors. One of the worst matches for her this year.

Meanwhile, I'm switching to Charleston WTA 500 and definitely can't wait to see/bet on Monte Carlo (starting on April 9?). Clay season is starting soon, this is going to be interesting! Cool

I saw this on twitter, this clip shows the "full scene".

https://twitter.com/petexiao1/status/1642787982167121920?s=20

the way I see it is there were two wrongs and ita all about "time and place"

The mom of the kid is waaay to pushy and I think the kid kind of knows it doesnt feel right,
she is the only one invading the space, not the right place to ask for an autograph.

On Kvitova's side all the cameras are pointing in your direction and its only one autograph,
snubbing the kid probably wasnt the right thing to do at that time.

anyway back into clay season with a few ATP tournaments in action already, Estoril Portugal,
Marrakesh Morocco and  Houston USA but I have no idea who plays where yet

It doesn't seem that tennis is the love of her life. After the shower slipping accident she secured herself financially and lost her motivation?

People are so much butt hurt about such small and silly situations. And I do not understand why the mother was pushing her child like that. I understand there are certain people you always tend to look up to. But these things, the over idolization can later cause mental problems and personality disorders in kids.

Anyway, I think no one is actually at fault here. The mother wanted her kid to have a memorable moment with a player. At the same time, the player also had other important things to do.

Alcaraz and Nadal both will miss the start of the clay season. I don't know whether that could be a problem for Nadal, but it seems that he is mostly going to try and put all eggs in one basket, which is the French Open. He will probably play a least necessary number of tournaments before that and prefers recovery, although I don't quite understand whether he is still recovering and from what. Physically he should be ok by now.

This is what Alcaraz had to say: ""I have post-traumatic arthritis in my left hand and muscular discomfort in the spine that needs rest to prepare for everything that is to come. See you in 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters."

That doesn't sound very good for him and it is what we have talked about here already. Whether he can break records or not will only depend on his physical condition.

We are about 5 or 6 weeks away from Roland Garros, maybe Nadal is missing the
start of Clay season as a precaution to prevent another possible/likely injury so that
he can play his beloved RG and target the win there. Yes sounds like all the eggs are
going into one basket. This really is the back end of Nadal's career.

Alcaraz - post traumatic arthritis sounds very serious but I have read that it is usually
temporary. Its a pity for him that recently he is unable to play because of Injury, recovery
and even more recovery.

Yeah, right now Nadal doesn't care about rating points, let alone prize money or anything else: he just tries to preserve his health as much as he can so he play RG one more (last?) time. He loves all clay season tournaments Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome etc but his real passion is RG and I think he secretly hopes to raise the Musketeers' cup over his head once again (for the 15th time!).

As to Alcaraz, I'm sure he'll be fine eventually. He's young and many players are experiencing injuries because of too much/too intensive training/playing.

Wasn't expecting Shelby Rogers to be beating Danielle Collins but it was an exceptional game from Shelby. Surprisingly, she looks very comfortable on clay and later I found out that she is local to Charlston and has played there pretty much every year. Make use of that info if you can. Badosa is back on her favorite surface and she's also a previous champ at Charlston. She's going up against Leah Fernandez who's going to give a tough fight. While Badosa isnt in the best of form, I still expect her to get past Fernandez in a tight 2 setter.

We absolutely agree about Nadal and even though it was always fun to watch any game anywhere from him, I prefer to see him only at the Roland Garros if that is how he can best nmanage to stay healthy. But I wonder whether you can simulate the competitive toughness in your training. Not that he doesn't know what's coming, but you want to test your body before the real deal happens. Look at Zverev... But I think Nadal is better at recovering as he has experience and knows what to do.

As for Alcaraz, it is usually temporary, but don't forget that it is not you or me who has it and we must stop typing for a couple of days/weeks, but Alcaraz who uses that body part under most intense conditions possible. That's where the problem is and it could easily turn into a chronic problem.

I just assumed you are not a pro tennis player! Tongue Hope you are ok with it! Cheesy

This is what Alcaraz had to say: ""I have post-traumatic arthritis in my left hand and muscular discomfort in the spine that needs rest to prepare for everything that is to come. See you in 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters."
Until now I am still curious about the name of the male tennis player Carlos Alcaraz Garfia.
He is a young tennis player whose name is sticking out because he won first place in the 2022 men's singles standings.
However, Carlos suffered an injury that prevented him from participating in the 2022 ATP Finals.

Anyway, there was a rumor going around that Carlos wouldn't be able to make it to Monte Carlo to start his dirt field tour turned out to be true.
It's a shame that this great tennis player who is still in her teens has had to rest for quite a long time because of the injury she experienced.

several players will not be present at Monte-Carlo Masters... Felix AA, Nadal, Alcaraz... it would be a nice chance for players like Djokovic or Sinner.
But this time I am pretty sure Roll Eyes probably we will some outsider or middle rank take a good spot...

Just watched Fernandez v Badosa. 7:5, 7:6 great match by Paula, it seems she starts gaining momentum after the catastrophic last season. In "Break Point" docuseries on Netflix she mentioned some psychological issues, depression etc. Today, she came back from 0:3 in the first set, then saved the second set after being broken by the Canadian several times and finally won the tie-breaker 8:6.

Another match to watch today: Kenin v Begu. My bet will be on Sofia.  Cool

Badosa is back on her favorite surface and she's also a previous champ at Charlston. She's going up against Leah Fernandez who's going to give a tough fight. While Badosa isnt in the best of form, I still expect her to get past Fernandez in a tight 2 setter.
Had predicted the Badosa match earlier in the day. Seems like I was on point with that  Cool . Kenin vs Begu, Im not that sure. Watched a few of Kenin's matches recently and she does show glimpse of her old self before injury. Good chance that she wins but Begu is a similar players. Some days, she looks like a solid top 20 player but most times..like a 100ish ranked one.

Thats the interesting part about top players missing a tournament, other players
get a chance to experience higher rounds and potentially collect higher points and
prize money!

Another interesting point is that Andy Murray has made it into the main draw because
of this and for the first time since 2017, he will definitely fancy his chances for a
tournament win...

It is good for Murray he made it to the main draw, but winning the tournament will a far stretch. He can maybe survice 2-3 matches but that will be it. Even though Nadal and Alcaraz are missing; Tsitsipas and Djokovic will be present and Tsitsipas won the last 2 editions so he is one of the top favorites to win (together with Djokovic offcourse).

Even though Nadal and Alcaraz are missing; Tsitsipas and Djokovic will be present and Tsitsipas won the last 2 editions so he is one of the top favorites to win (together with Djokovic offcourse).
We'll see if the advantage that Murray gets by being in the main draw will boost his achievement later by reaching a further round than he usually gets after dropping out of the top ranking.
Tsitsipas has always been stronger on clay which is why he was able to win the tournament two years in a row, the only obstacle is his mentality, which can sometimes down very far and this could be his preparation for the French Open as he has not shown anything good so far this year, Djokovic will be his strongest challenger, even though on clay Djokovic is not as good on hard and grass but he has always been a player with above average performance so young players always have a hard time beating him, and Medvedev won't really count here because it's not a surface that suits his playing, 2-3 matches was good enough for him, so if he is quickly eliminated in this tournament it is not a surprise.

There will definitely be different dynamics and some players will be better on the clay
where they were lacking on the hard courts and vice-a-versa.

This year Murray reached the final of Qatar to face Djokovic, so it really all depends
how the draw falls for him to determine his progression, he will be good for the first two
rounds at least...

(except in Miami where he exited in the first round IIRC)

The surface plays a big role and the best example for that is obviously Nadal. Alcaraz is really not a bad player on clay either, but Nadal's win rate in 519 games is 91.3% Cheesy

Alcaraz' win rate on clay after 58 games is 79.3%. Though the win rate factor declines at some age I think. Even though the win rate of Nadal is higher, Alcaraz can probably go harder in a 5 set game if he is fit. So for him when he faces Nadal, the most important thing is to not get knocked out in 3 plain sets.

But reading the names from the following graphic you can see already that it is once again the three GOATs who are to be found and nobody else

Tsitsipas is the only one who is also up there with 166:56 games.

Former World No.1 tennis player Andy Murray have confirmed his participation in Monte-Carlo Masters through his social media post. This is his participation since 2017, after a long gap getting back to the tournament. In the past few tournaments he wasn't able to perform well, and after good practice session and spending time with family he's moving to Monaco for the Monte-Carlo Masters.

Charleston WTA 500 quarterfinals today and we're getting ready for some exciting matches:

Kalinskaya v Jabeur Jabeur is determined to get back to top 10, today she'll be unstoppable.
Keys v Kasatkina Kasatkina is a clay player, more chances for her against the American.
Bencic v Alexandrova The two have met recently in Miami and Alexandrova won that one. h2h is tied 3:3 but bookies think Bencic will win. Despite this, I'm betting on the opposite.
Pegula v Badosa  Match of the day in my opinion. Badosa is back in her top form, whereas Pegula has shown hell of a tennis in previous rounds, coming back from 0:3 etc several times. My bet is on Badosa, she's good on clay.

The matches have already started, don't miss the action!  Cool
